AnTuTu Battery benchmak - One (M7) General

Hi guys,
I've been an iPhone user for four years in a row. This year though, I bought HTC One developer edition for me and my wife.
Anyway, I've seen lots of threads on battery usage and stats but they reflect results that are dependent on each particular user. I felt like my battery is not lasting long so I ran AnTuTu battery benchmark test and got 457. I still have a week for the unquestioned exchange term, so if anyone out there had the same test could tell me his score, I would decide whether to return it or keep it. Cheers,
P.S. Skype was running on background during the test. I don't know if this benchmark software is clever enough to calculate that difference, but antutu was measuring cpu-usage/battery-usage so Skype shouldn't effect the test result. Advance users might know better of course. :fingers-crossed:

Oddly enough I have the exact same grace period so to speak to return my one also , I have also not had very good results with battery and I am considering returning it also , I even downloaded wake lock detector , gem battery monitor, to try and see what is keeping this phone awake, so far I have not been able to nail down anything, I was hoping not to have to worry about every setting , ie, WiFi,brightness, etc etc , my s3 outperforms my one by at least 30 percent , I'm finding the phone is not really going Into deep sleep the way I think it should , anyway sorry for rambling , when. Saw your post I was like uhhhh yeah me too , anyway before I posted I went looking for antutu battery bench mark and I can't find that app , do you mean antutu benchmark, and that app has a battery score I it somewhere....? I never used that app , although I am quite the flasher , sorry for rambling , but I saw on another thread that someone else was not getting Decent battery results and had to exchange there phone and when he did he got much better battery results , I thin its a software glitch , I was hoping not to have too root, to achieve better performance ..........nope other people chime in , I'm a very light user lately and I'm barely getting 3 hours of screen time and 13 hours total , phone is draining around 4 % an hour while off....

I have the one since friday, after the onex has driven me nuts for a year because of the sh**y battery.
I am absolutly amazed by the battery of the one, getting 4-5 hours screentime (watching hd movies and playing games) and still having 20% left

I found one review in which they've done this test and got 574 but that was a prerelease unit so things night have changed since.

I will report back with my score , thanks for the app I'm interested to see where I stand and if you get a chance you might try one of the two apps I use at least they tell you what's using your juice.........
Edit Okay maybe i'm mistaken but in order to run this test i think you need to be at at least 95% and it must take a long time , i've tried several times but no good phone is on charger will try again ....................jeeze lol

just switched from a droid x

.... and i gotta say im LOVING it . Im up , rooted , custom rom and theme in less than an hour . The screen is AMAZING . Never realized how washed out my X looked . Just wanted to say hello , and hopefully we can share some good times together
Ya i was close to chooseing a x myself but at teh end this had a better screen and faster hardware plus imo a better form factor. Enjoy the phone things will heat up soon after 2.2 gets released.
Same here. Wanted the X because it had better accessories (at the time) and was, well....bigger.
The downside, of course, was that otorola being dickish about the bootloader.
The Fascinate pretty much made up my mind the moment it hit the shelves. The downside being Samsung's notorious penchant for delayed or non-existent updates...
yeah , but im pretty confident we will get that update this month (or maybe optimistic is a better word). And i know the devs will have it to us in roms just as soon as they can. A much smaller community for fascinate users so far ,got to tell the droid x forum goodbye haha
Quick uestion you guys might have an answer to without swimming through threads. After installing superpower on my DX , my battery life was AMAZING . like heavy usage from noon to four in the morning got me down to like 40%. This battery is larger , and i have superpower installed again... and just lost 20% in an hour....while sitting and watching Dexter haha .
Any secret tips or anything?
My experience is there's too much mumbo jumbo in getting the most out of a battery. I will say my initial experience with my Fascinate's battery life was borderline poor. I was generally charging my battery twice a day with what I considered moderate use. It felt like 2 hours of heavy use could finish me right off - low battery warning at night would mean a dead phone in the morning. The monitor was reporting my display was eating 80% of my battery life, and it felt like just looking at the thing would tick down my indicator by 10%,
Anyway, I [hope] I figured out where I went wrong the first time. My instinct when I got the phone, which I received activated with battery in, was to use it as little as possible until I could get it on a charger. I think this was the exact opposite of what I should have done, and cumy battery experience nearly in half.
To remedy this, I ran my battery down to completely dead, ignoring all the warnings until it actually kicked out. After that, I charged the phone (which takes about 3 hours on the AC charger) and then left it charging overnight. In my case I did this with the phone off and the battery icon displayed.
[I read that you want about two hours of overcharging -- but please do it in a cool place, letting your battery get too warm will cause it to oxidize faster, speeding the permanent damage that lowers the cieling output on LiOn batteries.]
The thinking here is that the battery system itself isn't very intelligent. It doesn't know the exact point where the battery will run out, nor is it necessarily certain when the battery is fully charged. It's recommended that once a month you fully power cycle the battery to retrain the system to understand what its limits are.
That was it. Now I get what I consider to be acceptable battery life. My display tends to eat about 50% of my battery life over a day, and I can actually use the phone without watching the battery tick down. I only tend to get a day of use, but I could push it to two or maybe three if I weren't so addicted to the thing.
I am not using any battery apps except for the Touchwiz task manager widget on my home screen.
Interesting , i have heard that approch before for my dx but didnt think it could possibly work. Now that i have heard it twice i will definitely give it a try . Its kinda funny that the thing that is so beautiful ( the screen ) is the death of me ... but isnt that always the case?? haha . Ill give it a whirl and report back . Thanks Soba .

yeah man , it made since . i worked at radioshack several years ago , and we told people to let their rechargeable batteries run all the way down before they recharged , unless they were nicad.
but just for the record this method ABSOLUTELY WORKS . from 11am to now 7:20pm , with moderate usage , im now at 75%. Thats pretty damn acceptable if you ask me . haha.
thanks a lot for the step by step , and would suggest you make a thread on it . Because if you do it step for step , it works like a champ .Thanks again .

Battery Life Testing - Kernel + Rom Combo's

Iv always considered battery life a very important factor in my purchasing of a phone and was one of the big reasons i moved from my Desire HD to the Nexus S (amongst many others). However having been on the android scene for a while im used to tinkering with kernels and roms etc and due to the new battery graph in gingerbread im now able to make direct comparisons rom by rom and kernel by kernel to see how they all differ. This is all shown + explained below.
First id like to explain my method;
I install the rom and kernel with the same apps I always use and charge the phone fully until i am about to go to sleep. I then unplug the phone and leave it in the exactly the same place on my desk with exactly the same settings (sync intervals etc) and i kill all apps before i leave it just to make sure the test is fair.
In the morning i then take a screen shot of the battery life over the period of usually 8 hours and will upload this for you to see. I then look at the over-night battery drain as a comparison on how good battery life is on specific roms and kernels.
Justification - Many of you may be thinking who cares about standby battery life? I care about the battery when im using it!?
Well although that's valid there are many reasons i have taken this approach;
1. It is completely fair i.e. no individual differences such as 'im a heavy user' but we all have different definitions of a 'heavy user'. This is eliminated by the fact the phone is not used and thus the same every time (no individual differences)
2. If a phone has severe battery drain during sleep general knowledge should dictate that battery drain should increase when the screen is on, cpu is working and your syncing your facebook wall, thus a direct correlation with sleep battery drain and usage drain should be apparent.
Therefore i have decided over the next few days/weeks etc i will upload on a regular basis a screenshot of the battery drain over night, along with the battery use details and screen on time etc etc. In addition to the rom and kernel info and i hope that over time this proves to be a very useful thread.
I have been doing this over the last few days on a less strict system and there have been some VERY interesting results which i will upload over the next few days.
(Just a final note iv never really done anything like this on xda before so if its a stupid idea then please tell me now so i dont waste my time doing it, however if people are really interested please let me know and il make sure i do my best!!)
Thanks for reading my extremely long post!

SCREENSHOT 1: This was using modacos custom rom r10 and the kernel that comes with it, i had quite a short sleep (about 6 hours) but the curve pretty much shows what the point im trying to make is. The battery life is great!!
SCREENSHOT 2: This is CM7 Nightly build 27# with Netarchy's latest 1.2.1 kernel and although i didnt use the screen once of charge for a few minutes as you can see once the screen was off battery life barely decreased and was over a long period of time.
If anyone wants me to test specific combos please let me know.
I'm actually looking forward to reading your results.

i'm a sucker for these types of tests, always love doing them and seeing the results. post soon!
I like others will be keeping an interested eye on your findings.
Uploading pictures of modaco r10 with it's own original kernel today. Its an interesting result!

Can u try modaco r10 with Netarchy 1.2.1 kernel.

I'd be interested in seeing CM7, just whatever nightly build you manage to catch.
I don't think that result will give you precise result.
I found that statistic is wrong sometimes.
It is better to measure using "play video loop".
So, find a movie, set to the same brightness and play in loop?

Unfortunately that will not give you how well the rom does while it is idle.
I'm really looking forward to your results. My only issue with this phone is the battery life is terrible. I ordered an extended battery off Ebay 3 weeks ago and have yet to receive it. Never ordering anything from Hong Kong again!

What were you using before that you consider this phone to have bad battery life? By far this phone has the best battery life of any Android device I've owned. If you want bad battery life, get an Evo. That is horrific battery life.

I am looking forward to the rest of these, however just a quick question. What was your battery use like in that situation with the stock ROM? Just for reference, because I'm thinking I might switch to modaco soon. Thanks!
More soon
Iv got a few more screenies but it seems i may have to end this thread prematurely. Its the SNS or 2.3 but idle battery usage for me is pretty much identical no matter what the kernel or rom (il upload a CM7 + Netarchy 1.2.1 shot top op). This was unexpected on my behalf because with my DHD kernels and roms had a big impact on idle battery consumption. I have noticed however that without a full wipe when changing some kernels such as with M r10 idle battery life can increase drastically. I will continue for the next few days and if i dont see any big changes i may move method to a video loop or something of the sort.
Interesting find
I found out something today that may interest may of you. I was messing around with the sleep profiles on SetCpu with netarchys kernel and i found that its better to leave the range from 100-800 than 100-400 or less. This i believe is because when the phone is asleep and carries out a process it will be forced to clock to the maximum of 400mhz and then stay at that speed for 10 seconds, instead of say going up to 800mhz for 1-2 seconds to complete the same process. So a tip to you would be set your profile to 100-800mhz conservative and see what you get!

This kinda enforces the point that SetCPU is useless for the NS unless you really want to overclock...
Any battery saving tactics used buy lowering screen off profiles are counteracted by the system process;( So i think in the context of battery life you are probably better to not use SetCPU

I would definitely move to a video loop or some other 'heavy use' task because when you think about it, not too much can really be changed when almost no power is being used in the first place.
You could also just mention your general feeling for the battery life of each rom, because quite often that is what I go by as my usage varies depending on a range of things (school day or weekend etc) .

Could you please test modaco r10 with Netarchy's latest 1.2.1 kernel ?
I would love to see the difference between modaco's default kernel vs netarchy's kernel.
On CM nightly 13, I just went 11 hours and I'm at 90%. That's 1/2% an hour. Not bad. That is with stock kernel.

[Q] Posible fault of my battery?

Hello
Please a little help.I got a nexus 7 from a week now.Is my first tablet and my first gadget with android.
When i bought it i saw on google specification that the baterry life is around 9h.I know that this will never be but...maybe a 5-6h can be done?Or is my baterry so bad?
Maxim that i manage to do was 2days 23h, 30 min with screen on 4h and 8 min.
Its ok like this?
Now..the bigger problem.Today i recharged it again and after that i just browse a bit and the baterry drop from 100% to 86%.(screen on was 58min)Dont think its ok to drop like that only just because i read some forums.
Android version is 4.2.1.I made the update but only that.(no root or some like that- the rest is just the original)
So..please can you tell me...i must go and ask for a new one?
Will try to put some pictures(the last 2 recharges),maybe will make a better opinion.
Thank you

Your N7 is perfectly fine. Were pretty much the same when it comes to battery life. I get 1day 5hr and 9min. with screen on 5hr and 32min. The 9hr life that google said is pure BS. Don't ever assume all the things that the company said to their product cuz it's just their marketing strategy to make people buy the product. However, you can achieve 9 hours MAYBE if you underclock the CPU and the GPU and lower the brightness. But your's is PERFECTLY FINE my friend. Hope this helps. Don't forget to click the thank you button if this somewhat helps you get an idea.

Battery Life Declining

Hi guys,
So bought the Verizon Galaxy S5 for my fiance when it came out. Over the past week or two it's been dying rather quickly. Attached are some battery metrics I took from the screenshot. Do they look normal to you?
It looks like the android system is using up all the battery, but I'm not sure why this is.
Thanks in advance for any help!
Mike
It seems your Gps is on.
Keep GPS off.(Location).
This will help you to boost your battery.
this is perfectly normal. having 35% after 8 hours is actually average

You have unrealistic expectations. Using two thirds of the charge over 8 hours is not atypical. Why do you believe otherwise?
You can do various tweaks to gain a few hours e.g. GPS always off, short screen time outs, perhaps install some inverted apps (black themed screens use considerably less battery), et cetera. Or perhaps invest in an extended capacity battery. Or some people feel that it is easier to carry a spare battery.
.
.
What is everyone on in this thread?! 8 hours is nothing and unless you have been gaming non stop, which seems doubtful considering the display being almost non existent in the log, you should normally get at least 24-48 hours with about 3-5 hours of screen time. Something is wrong with either the software or the battery, but normally it is a software problem, BBS is your friend.

You sir, are a troll until proven otherwise. You are simply wrong, perhaps the reason why all of the other posts disagree with you. 24+ hours is not normal. The only way anyone would get that kind of duration is to have the phone off most of the time and most people do not use their phones that way. The OP had 8.6 hours at @ 32% remaining, a wholly normal result.
Certainly battery life varies widely depending on GPS & wifi use, gaming, screen time and so forth. But to claim that 24+ hours is normal is egregiously specious.

Wow wow, hold your horses, you are being serious? It is completely normal for me with my 900F model and a lot of people are getting it. 24/48 hours is my typical battery with phone on (the battery obviously doesn't count power off, so that is a moot point anyways). I happened to make a SS last month and will share it for you to see and I didn't even try to save the battery, I never do since the battery of the S5 is so exceptional!
I agree, it does not look normal. Something is probably holding wake locks or working the CPU. There's a lot of badly written apps out there, including some of the most popular. I've seen FB messenger and Slacker radio apps use 2-6% CPU in the background for no good reason, consistently until force closed.
In any case, try to install an app that can read wakelocks, like BetterBatteryStats or GSAM. Also check the tasks screen in Android Tuner to see if something is keeping the CPU busy in the background for no reason.
Once you figure out the abnormal drain, try installing my app, LeanDroid to extend your battery even more

International Galaxy S5 Battery Life

Hey guys
I have a brand new GS5 and the batterylife is nowhere close to what reviews say. Yes I get 20+ hours but that is only counting in all the hours I am asleep.
When taking it off the charger and just browsing the web on autobrightness inside in just under a hour the battery is at 79 percent while on wifi...
Also Android system is what consumes the most. How can I fix this ? I don't want to root it yet but if I must do that that's fine for me.
Also while sleeping the battery loses 12 percent in just 6 hours. This can't be right ?

bear in mind battery technology hasnt advanced quite as far as screens and connectivity has. we have bigger screens and constant connected wifi and apps.
you're not going to get all the battery life you want. under mdium use id say this phone is about 12 hours use
Yes I know that buy it is worse than my s4 and even moto g. It can't be right. I've owned the one M8 and it should more or less like that phone but it is not by FAR. I wish I didn't break my z2, that phone couldn't be sucked dry in one day.
All this aside : if Android kernel and system is using the most energy something must be wrong

To the point: this is one of their flagship devices and I know that normally it should last a lot longer than it does now. And to answer your question it should last almost as long as the one M8 wich has near identical hardware but a less big battery.
My xperia z2 with the same chip but an even bigger display that is brighter lasted at least 22 hours with 7 hours screen on time. Yes it had a 400mAh bigger battery but that doesn't mean that there should be such a big differencr in things like browsing the web. A 1 to 1,5 hour difference yes maybe. That being said I clearly have problems with my battery draining while I'm asleep.
I have owned two s801 devices and I know it is a really power effecient chip so it is not normal that I lose 30 percent after 1 hour on really low brightness. The fact that android system and kernel is at the top of the power consumption chart is also an inidcation that there is something wrong with the firmware. I tought someone could help me that has had the same problem by suggesting for example debloating the rom, installing a certain kernel, disabling a certain samsung app and so on.
So if you have nothing better so say please may I ask you to not respond so that this thread can be maybe somewhat usefull to other users
Root, takes of all. Touchwiz craps and change a kernel you get more battery life.
