It seems like plenty more attention is being given to the international version.
Phone hasn't even been out 2 weeks! Give it time.
Not if they are with Sprint, ATT, Tmobile, US Cellular, Rogers, or Verizon..... I gotta say, I am amazed at how fast development is moving on this phone. Two weeks, and we have cm10, cm9, MIUI is right around the corner. What more do you want?
We have plenty of great developers already and more are on the way. We have Jelly Bean within a month of release and it's good enough to be a daily driver. Be grateful.
Phone hasn't been out very long yet. Already have root, ROM's.... Kernels. Also have 2 of the best Devs... Ktoonsez and Task

The international version covers 30+ countries, of course it is going to have more developers than the two countries that use this version (Canada & US).
The positive side is that they get to lay all the ground work, and eventually that work gets ported or brought over to ours.
All in due time.

Less than two weeks in and we've got a nearly rock-solid CM10 preview build available. Been using it for a few days and it's awesome. I sure don't feel ignored.
I mean, sure, the Verizon version is gonna get shafted, but everybody else seems like it's all systems go.

I was concerned about the development before changing to the North American variant but have to say that I have been impressed. I have a feeling that down the road, there may be devs who are able to port some of the SGS3 international Roms to ours as well. Its been out barely a month and even less in other areas (Canadian launch was June 27th), but I have to say that things look very promising thus far. The CM10 preview was very much a nice surprise too
I would not use "left behind" in any way to describe the US variants of the Galaxy S3, with the exception of maybe our carriers taking forever to get official updates from Samsung out to us.
All of the four major US variants currently have CM9 builds. The Verizon variant doesn't appear on get.cm, but official repos for it exist, and with the progress of the auto-kexec exploit and all the work CVPCS has been putting in on streamlining it, I can definitely see the possibility of it getting official support.
If you're referring to tons of independent developer ROMs not popping up, all I can say is that the phone has only been out a couple of weeks. I can't speak for the other variants, but the Verizon version has had a couple stock-based ROMs, and I already mentioned the AOSP-variants like CM9.
So, no, I don't think we're left behind in any way.
The NA Variants (US Mostly) are officially being supported by Cyanogen, do you really need any other ROM, AOKP is already out as well, those really are the only 2 roms you should need.
Uuuuh? Lack of developers? Are you joking?
We already have official CM10 with almost everything working... There are so many touchwiz-based ROMs already out. (Most touchwiz based ROMs aren't "real" works of development. I mean no disrespect to developers and I said MOST, not all.)

Says the guy with a giant "BLAZER ROM" signature. Lol! JK! I think we'll be fine. Unfortunately the fragmentation between carriers when sharing the same device leeds developers to spread around based on their allegiance to whatever carrier.
Personally, I think Sprint's development is one of the strongest (doesn't compare to the int'l version though).

It looks like the days of Qualcomm-based mutant derpbeasts are over.
http://vr-zone.com/articles/samsung...ipset-shows-up-in-korean-galaxy-s3/16442.html
There is finally an LTE/GSM dual-mode modem available from someone other than Qualcomm.
People have occasionally said "the Exynos 4 Quad isn't compatible with LTE" - This is false. Nothing in the CPU makes it incompatible/compatible - the only issue was that until recently, Qualcomm was the only company that had LTE/GSM combo basebands available, and Qualcomm won't sell their modems to someone not using their CPU.
A non-Qualcomm baseband chip changes everything.
I probably should've noticed this long ago - but CMC221 references have been cropping up in Samsung's source releases for a while now.
Edit: CMC221 seems to be an older chipset, there's a lot of conflicting info on exactly what is going on. Either way, it looks like Samsung now has access to SOME sort of baseband chipset that isn't from Qualcomm, OR Qualcomm has changed policies and is now selling LTE basebands that can be paired with non-Qcom CPUs.

Unknown. I need to do a lot of research. I've been really angry with AT&T's handling of Samsung devices, to the point where my plan until today was to ditch them for Straight Talk combined with international unlocked devices when my contract was up.
Nonmutilated LTE devices might change this... I'm still not sure, it still remains to be seen whether this new generation of LTE chips doesn't have the severe battery life penalties older LTE implementations did. Also, I'm not eligible for an upgrade until February and I really don't want to give the asshats at AT&T money for a full-price device just for a feature I likely won't use.
If ONLY the AT&T variant is capable of AT&T LTE - Maybe (I live in the boonies, I won't see LTE for a long time)
If the international variant supports the AT&T LTE bands - Hell no for the AT&T variant (say no to unjustified carrier mangling), possibly for the international variant.

same. I have a SGS2 with a cracked screen. At&t already said they will allow me to use my wife's upgrade, but i don't know if i want to wait for the N2....but maybe i should. I almost jumped on the S3 this weekend, but i didn't. I had my reservations about the rediculousness of using the Note as a phone, but then again, i've made probably 2 calls on my S2 in 10 months. Current rumors indicate it has the quad.
They appear 'hardware equivalent' enough that I wonder if you can flash international ROMS onto it.
I guess that's a pipe dream though, since it has a different model #, implying different hardware somewhere.
The N7000 was fun that you could flash different country's roms onto it - less waiting for new features.
I guess at this point I guess it'll mainly depend on when it gets released to AT&T.

It may be similar enough to only require a porting package.
For example, these were the differences between the SGH-I777 and GT-I9100:
I777 had a different call audio interface to the modem - I9100 modems and kernels would not work, but only a few kernel changes were needed to fix the kernel side of things.
I777 had a different microphone configuration - Swapping libaudio out would fix this initially, with ICS I reverse engineered it to the point where only a kernel change was needed
I777 had NFC - If you didn't mind it not working (note: did not work on I777 firmwares ANYWAY), didn't need to do anything when flashing an I9100 firmware. Actually, thanks to the I9100P it was easier to get NFC working on I9100 ports than I777 bases...
I777 had the typical USA touchkey configuration - needed a small kernel change and a keylayout change
The above meant that it was possible to develop a nearly universal porting tool for all Gingerbread firmwares, and once ICS kernel source was released, same for ICS firmwares. The main disadvantage was you couldn't do anything with I9100 leaks - kernel source was required.
CDMA users will be screwed - too many differences for a GSM firmware to ever have any hope of being cleanly ported to a CDMA device. (Exception being AOSP bringups.)

Galaxy Note II reported to arrive at AT&T on October 21
As the Title say's - Galaxy Note II reported to arrive at AT&T on October 21 -- [Android Guys]
PLEASE DON'T LET IT BE ANY LONGER.
Now that many European variants will share the same SoC as the American variants, how will the boards be organized? I was thinking that maybe development should be lumped together IF AND ONLY IF ROMs are easily ported over to each other like they were on the SGS3 S4.
Perhaps general discussions can all be separated by carrier so people can discuss carrier specific problems and topics but we should all share the same development section (again, assuming that ROMs are easily ported to one another). I think this will make it easier for DEVs to interact with everyone that is interested in their ROM and possibly earn them more donations.
What does everyone else think?
I don't think you can put them together. The 9505 and the 9500 are 2 different chips. They aren't going to be compatible.
Its like the USA variant of the HTC One X custom ROMs were not compatible with the international version. If you flashed one for the international version you were bricked.

Except the fact that MOST of the Europe (which used to be international version) is going to have the 9505 variant and POSSIBLY? later the 9500. So basically it should be the SAME this time around as the American Version. I am sure as always there will be differences like modems that will need to be swapped depending on the country of origin.

I am strictly speaking of all the i9505 variants. I think the development section should possible by lumped together if ROMs are confirmed to be easily portable like the SGS S4 that used a qualcomm chip.

Maybe I'm not sure but we can always ask. But again, the One Xl ( with the snapdragon S4) has only one forum despite having several carriers ( AT&T USA, Rogers Canada, Telstra Australia) . Many Roms are interflashable with any of the carrier's version but some Roms are specific to one carrier. It'll be weird to have a dozen I9505 forums lol.

Yes it came down to all that. CDMA/GSM and the bands. The US carriers are so different but AT&T is similar to other carriers like Telstra and Rogers and others. We will see.
Even though I was planning to leave Vodafone yesterday for Three, I ended up deciding to stay with Vodafone as it would have been too much hassle going for a credit check plus waiting for three days if I was successful for my application whereas Vodafone's 4G service is going to be better than Three's.
In any case, I got my Samsung Galaxy S4 today and I'm really liking it so far although I'd like to know what the best Custom ROM and Modem are for the UK Vodafone Galaxy S4 as I want to root it like I did with my Galaxy S2 which I'm keeping as a emergency phone but unlike that one which has Paranoid Android installed on it, there doesn't seem to be a version of that available for the S4 yet.

It will be a bit harder since bootloader is locked and seems so far not unlockable the easy way...
Got my D855 a few days ago, there is no development since the bootloader is locked, once unlocked I'm guessing it will be around a month until the hardware sources are working correctly for CM, and from there the sky is the limit, once CM comes out I will be more then glad to help bring Slim, Beanstalk, AOSB and others to the G3 (I helped the S2 community for a long time bringing them roms)
