Hey, wasn't sure where to post this, but anyway....
I had a ST account with 2 AT&T sims on it. Before they AT&T dropped ST I kind of saw the writing on the wall with that 2GB limit, and since I tend to go over and the other person does too I just switched to T-Mobile.
I'm wondering if I can try and profit off this a little? Could I sell someone the rights to the account/sims? or better yet is there a way to remove the sims from the account, still have them work, and sell them stand alone?
NOTE: If you have a problem with my attempt to try and profit off still having two of these, I don't care, move along, thanks.
Are they used? If so, how old are they? I think straight talk sims "expire", so to speak, after being used... I think it's between 1-3 months...
Edit: OK upon further research, service cards expire a year from date of purchase but sims do not... Again, idk if it matters whether or not they were previously activated or not...

They are used. One was last used about 3-6 months ago. The other we just stopped using this past weekend. The numbers associated with them were ported off.
They stay in the account ready to be activated again. I think I'd have to sell the "account" with the 2 sims, change the password, and let them activate them how they want.

I would say it doesn't really fit anywhere on XDA to be honest. But, a lot of Nexus users have experience with ST. Thanks for the complaint withotut any good suggestions by the way.

One thing is for certain you can't sell the sims and activate them on another account and I think they can only be reactivated using the number associated with them when you first activated them. When I first used StraightTalk I didn't port my number over and used one they assigned to me, when I finally wanted to port my number over they said I had to use a new sim as you couldn't change the number on the existing sim card, it was permanently associated with the first number assigned to it or so it was explained to me. I think the sim can only be written to once after that its read only so any account info on it can't be changed.

You can discus phone plans here no problem, there are plenty of them already and it has everything to do with the Nexus 4 as its carrier unlocked. And since it was a question it does belong in Q&A. You could have posted it in the other StraightTalk thread in the General Section but who really cares (except it seems one person).

I think I'ma just abandon this idea. It's too complicated lol. I was trying to see if I could keep some ST AT&T sims in circulation and make a little coin on top, but with them activated already it doesn't make sense. Plus you can still get activation kits around $50 if you really want.

Like you originally said you would have to sell the account and I don't think that is allowed in the TOS. They might let you transfer it to a family member but that would be the extent of it. IMO It would be a huge pain in the butt to try and sell it as who really wants to go through that huge a hassle to try and save a couple bucks at best. And you would also have to give any buyer the phone number associated with the sim card which is the one you ported. I've got all kinds of used sims from carriers laying around too I just put them in a box to grow dust.

So my friend found someone's lost Droid 2 and wanted me to fix it for him. He wants it so he can take it to Verizon as if he had bought it and have it activated. It's locked, as in no service. He already did a factory reset.
Where do I look now? What exactly do I look for? I can figure out how to root it easy enough but after that I'm lost on what to do..

Return to Verizon. The person who lost it probably reported it by now and Verizon blacklisted the ESN number or whatever. It's no good.
It's Christmas time dude, someone is probably really upset that they lost that phone. Do the noble thing and return it.
I am sure the person that lost the phone has all the family photos, family and friends numbers on it. Too bad that your friend didn't look up the number and try to return the phone..
Please put yourself in that person shoes. ...God Bless you(for helping your friend doing the evil thing) and most of all for your friend for not returning the phone to the owner.
Also just to add a personal experience:
I found a phone on the ground at a concert once, called the last number dialed in it and found out who it belonged to. Turned out to belong to the guitarist for the headlining band. Me and my gf got brought backstage, had an amazing party and got a ton of free ****.
However, if you do decide not to return it, I'm sure a few devs out there would love to get in touch with you to get the phone from you, namely people like blackdroid and cvpcs, who are currently working on D2 ROMs but don't have a device to test builds on. To those guys it doesn't matter as much if the phone is blacklisted, as it can still be used for development.
However, you should make an effort to return it to it's original owner, as there is no way you will be able to use the phone for service through verizon at this point.

That's awesome dude!
He found it weeks ago and just now.got it to me. He long since formatted it so all info was lost. I don't think he will be trying to return it.
Is there anything that can be done software wise? Or would the hardware unique to the phone make this impossible?

It's useless as a phone on Verizon. They block the ESN of the phone once it's reported lost/stolen and won't allow it on the network regardless of what you do to the software. You need better friends. Just because you find something doesn't make it yours. Especially when it's something like a phone that contains the owners contact info in it.
Yeah. Well thanks for the help.

I agree w/ others on here that it would still be. Est to try to return it or to donate to a rom dev...
But how about bypassing the reg when you boot the phone and setting it up for making calls on wifi via skype or google voice? Should still be useful as a tablet computer, if anything.
Sent from my DROID2 using XDA App
I think the right thing to do is to return it to a Verizon store and let them find the owner for you (they can look up the ESN and see the history of it and find the person that way).
But if you plan to keep it, you might wait until folks have successfully unlocked the SIM card and use it on a different network. Chances are Verizon can't blacklist the phone for AT&T or T-Mobile purposes.
You could either return it to verizon, give it to a dev for testing purposes, or sell it as blacklisted for parts on Ebay.
I'd go with option number 2 actually. it might end up helping you out in the long run if you have a D2 yourself.
I work at verizon I can look up the esn if you want
Just bring it to a verizon and say you found it. This is a very expensive phone and is most likely blacklisted. My aunt turned in a lost phone to a verizon store and got a credit from the manager. Your decency may pay off.
tell your friend to be nice and return it to verizon.

Really???? I have to ask, do you have a Droid 2 for Verizon? Have you seen a sim card?
Just an FYI, Droid 2 uses CDMA and T-Mobile and at&t use gsm. Two totally different frequencies, and the Droid 2 will never work with either of them.

cool your jets broski, he just confused it for a droid 2 global which, in fact, DOES have a sim card slot.
Technically the droid 2 has a sim card slot aswell it's just blocked by a piece of plastic glued to the top of the battery contacts and there aren't actual sim/GSM hardware but there is a slot for it.

Yup, I did (that's the phone I have). My bad.
So I lost my Inspire 4g and was deeply saddened about it. Couldn't find it with Plan B or any tracking app by downloading from android market; because I changed my password out of caution first, I don't think the apps downloaded to the phone and since Google won't let me change my password to a previous one, I can't do a single thing. :/
Anyway, I'm thinking about buying the Atrix off of craigslist, but I've never used it. Is there anything I should worry about? Like, if it's stolen or he does some shady stuff and I put in my SIM card, will it just leave me with a brick? I'm still planning on using AT&T and if the phone isn't rooted, I plan to root it.
I traded an iPhone 3G for Samsung Focus with some dude on Craigslist. He had the box, USB cable, power adapter and showed me the thing working on his SIM before he handed it to me. Let me fiddle with it before I left. I've also sold some stuff on Craigslist too, just use your brain when dealing with people you don't know. Ask to see it working, and stick your SIM in it (or use theirs) and make a call before you walk away with it.
I always like to meet in a public area with a lot of cameras. I usually do Starbucks or a Bank of America ATM. No one will think of pulling a fast one on you in an BoA room.
Well I was reading about and was wondering about IMEI blocking and stuff like that (don't really know what it means). I remember suspending my phone online through AT&T. Does that only block the sim card or the actual phone? Can the person block the IMEI later if he decides to be a douche or do you need more information?

Good advice, use what's around ya. Oh, no personal checks. I won't take one, nor will I give one to someone I don't know. Most people won't mess with you, anyway, because they're afraid you'll do something to them. Just make sure the product works the way you would expect it to before you walk away.

IMEI blocking also cancels the SIM. He'd have to be a real douche to go out of his way to go pick up a new SIM just to screw with you.
I bought my 2nd Atrix off of craigslist.
I met the guy at a well lit truck stop. I asked for him to walk inside to meet me. (Lots of cameras and people). We then walked outside and I called ATT to check the IMEI and make sure he owned the phone he was selling. ATT also told me who the phone was registered to and that the phone was purchased in June... I then confirmed the sellers name.
I checked out every thing that I could to make sure that the phone was fully functional, it was.
Couple days later I noticed that I couldn't get HDMI out to work. After further investigation, I noticed that there was a single pin broken off in the HDMI. I called ATT up and they replaced the phone via warranty. Of course I played dumb and just said HDMI out didn't work, not mentioning anything being "broken." The likelihood that they can pin a broken pin on me is very rare. (no pun intended) They shipped me a phone that arrived 2 days after I called, I sent them my "broken" phone back.
I bought a greatly discounted phone off of craigslist and ended up getting a refurbed phone that looked brand spanking new from ATT.
*Oh, and the guy paid with cash.*
My transaction went better than expected, despite the inconvenience of not having HDMI right away.

Damn... so I can be screwed over even way later? I'm still confused, so let me get this straight.
I suspended my lost phone online. Does that make the sim card unusable, the phone unusable (i.e. even after putting in their sim card), or both?
Is the IMEI number linked to a person's phone number/account? I know that on the AT&T website, it shows what type of smartphone I had. Does it automatically change to whatever phone I have? Also, is there a penalty for using another smartphone? I'm really insecure about buying a used phone if i can get ****ed later.
Once you put your SIM in it reports the IMEI to your account. Believe it or not, the risk is low. Most people just want the money and don't want the trouble, because you could technically call customer service right there and say you bought the phone from the original owner right there on the spot and tie the IMEI to your account and you're good to go.
Yes, the IMEI reports to AT&T's network within the first few seconds of the SIM being in the phone.
And if you say it's stolen, they lock both the IMEI and the SIM as well as the account. If someone tried this on you, they would be unable to get a new SIM until they unlock the account, which also unlocks the IMEI and invalidates their old SIM since they get a new one. If he screws you, he can't keep it up for long if he wants to keep his contract.
I used to work for AT&T, not on the mobile side but I've made enough contacts to know how it works.

Well, I already know he's using a different phone. He says that the phone he's selling is his wife.
If both he and his "wife" (obviously, I'll call at&t and double check this) are using different phones, then the IMEI number shouldn't be linked to anyone and I'd be okay to use it afterwards? I'm just trying to find the scenario where I can't get BS'd.

I'd like to get the s4 from a best buy location this week but I've got a few questions.
Do they do cross upgrades WITHOUT effecting the other line's sim/phone? I want to use my wife's upgrade but she'll be out of town so we can't have her sim/phone go off?
(I'm asking cuz in the past I had that happen)
If the upgrade date is 5/8,can I do it with best buy on may 1rst like I can at att?
Thanks to any best buy employees or otherwise experts who can help....

I can answer the first question but not the second, I don't have a clue about upgrade dates and such....
I used an upgrade from another account I manage yesterday and they told me that worst case scenario, the other phone will be deactivated for a second or two while they process the phone onto the account and then off of it, restoring the IMEI that was originally used.... if she has an LTE phone already, it will make the process a whole lot easier since they don't have to add an LTE provision and then remove it
That being said, I thought it was kind of wild they had to do any of that in the first place when I thought they could just process the upgrade as an in-store deal since it wasn't going on that account - they didn't pull out the phone and do a test call on it, so why would they have to activate it in the system for the other number and then remove it? At one time, the guy processing it who I thought I had confidence he knew what was going on turned to me and said "do you by any chance have that other phone available so I can get the IMEI off of it?" Well no, of course I don't, I told you that! You had it in the system before you deactivated it, put it back! haha, oh BBY.....
same here what happened yesterday, im goin to use my dad's
upgrade, since his phone is the galaxy s1, it turns out they deactivated his number(old sim) and they gave me the lte enabled sim, since i told them that i am the one gonna use both the s4 and s3 not my dad, they provided me a regular sim again for my dad but just to call 611 att customer service to transfer again the lte enbled sim to the regular one, such a hassel though, if only i have a simcard adapter that time.

Ok so she has an iPhone 5(lte right?) on that line now(the line I will use the upgrade date from.)

Please let me know. Thanks for help guys.
From my experience regarding dates, yes. As long as its the first of the eligible month. This was 2 years back when i got the s2 so not exactly sure if policy changed but i doubt it. Radio shack did the same thing.

The iPhone 5 is an LTE device, you should be good on that end
I sent a text to the number I was upgrading before to warn the person they may be without service momentarily, and then called on my way out of the store, they did not notice any interruption in service, so yes, it's for sure

This is true of outside vendors like BB still? I know Att could do it but not sure about non att stores.
Best buy mobile employee here. Typically if you are cross upgrading it isn't an issue unless it's an iPhone 5 or an old phone that uses a standard sim card. If they call customer service they can typically make it work without deactivating the old phone, otherwise you would need to get a new sim for the other phone.

It is only a problem because they use a nano sim which is only compatible with an iPhone 5. As far as the upgrade date goes, Generally it's not an issue, we just might have to process it over the phone

My issue is my wife with the iPhone 5 will be a a very important trip where she needs the iPhone to work.

Is what I want to do not going to work then?

There is a good chance that it will work, but there is also the possibility that it doesn't. If we call AT&T to activate over the phone sometimes they are able to move the SIM without having to deactivate it. It will most likely not be an issue, but there is always a slight chance that it would be cut off. When you go to the store make sure you stress that her phone cannot be shut off and ask them if there is any way to do it so that doesn't happen.
Follow up :
I went to a BB mobile store on 5/1.
My *639# said 5/8 for upgrade but she said she could do it no call to Att needed. So she did. All went well. Wife's lte iP5 didn't even turn off(that we noticed).
So cross upgrade went well. Stoked!

call 866-895-1099 its the automated activation line, it will activate the correct IMEI and SIM on your plan, activate any new features you selected(if applicable), add insurance to the device if you chose it at purchase. Otherwise everything is still incorrect based on your old phone. After the call your current sim will go dead, use the one that came with the phone.

Please don't get hostile, but it is a really, really good idea to properly activate your new phone through AT&T and also to take the new SIM card. But instead of the automated system like I used, I might recommend calling through to an agent/CSR.
I had concerns about my unlimited plan as well, and noticed that if I were to activate, it would likely remove the unlimited H+ plan in favor of a 3gig LTE plan. I called a couple different times about this, and they said that everything would be alright, and they noted the account that they told me this. Shortly after activating it, I noticed that it did indeed make the switch on me, and that I suddenly had a 3GB data limit on this line. I called back, and they said that this was necessary to be able to pre-order the device, and it was not giving them the option to put it back. They put in a ticket and gave a "it will be fixed by this date" date. About a day and a half later, I got a text saying they corrected the issue. I checked online, and my account was back to normal.
I'm 90% sure that if I had called to activate my phone manually with an agent, they could have spared the unlimited plan from the get-go. I would recommend calling and talking to an agent, such that they can mark the order as complete/received and they can enter the new IMEI and ICCID numbers.
Further, there's a small, non-credible amount of evidence that suggests that the newer SIM cards and a proper activation will yield better network speeds. I don't see how, apart from some sort of throttling implemented by AT&T for "everyone else".

While this is true, they don't automatically update their billing system and other records - or at least not right away. I work with about 110 AT&T lines at work, mixed between crackberries, "feature-phones" and iPhones. I've noticed that while a new phone will work, but the website will still show the old IMEI number until we manually update it.

What kind of answer is that!!!??? I'm not stupid, its not like I switched from a dumb phone to a smart phone...... and what features? Why would I change anything if I'm on the unlimated data plan? I change phones almost every 6 months or so and even with upgrades never got this message.

You asked for help and you got it.
This is exactly what needs to get done.
There should have been a sheet of paper with instructions included stating to call that exact number above and follow the steps through the automated system. Most people completely ignore it out of the excitement of getting a new phone. I don't blame you.

I did it last night and it activated the new sim. My phone just got deactivated..... At 11:30 this morning tried to send a text and bam kept failing...
So is it hurting anything that Im had to agree to my contract again??
Hi everyone,
I bought a Nexus 6P on Shpock selling app the other day, the previous owner had factory reset the phone before sending it to me. I was setting up the phone, and it asked me to put in the previous owners Google account to continue set up, obviously I did not know the details, and my impatience to ask for them was too short as I wanted to get into the phone and use it.
Anyway I found a video on YouTube explaining how to bypass this security. I followed all the steps and did everything correctly.
And now it turns out, my Nexus has been blacklisted. It had apparently been done on the same date and time as I was doing the security bypass. I will attach a photo to show you all
So my question is, could it have been blacklisted because of the security bypass?
I also have the email from Google saying welcome to your new Nexus 6P attached, this is to show the times are accurate to the blacklist time on the report.
Cheers!
Looks like there is about a month difference between blacklist date and email date. 7/5 and 6/6. Maybe previous owner decided to ditch it because of the T-Mo blacklist?
Oh my god I genuinely didn't notice the months difference! How stupid of me to not realise something so simple! The seller said it was unlocked, but when I try GiffGaff sim card who are linked to O2-UK it asks for a sim unlock pin. I've ordered a unlock code online, maybe it will work? I think it might because I bought a EE sim card to test it out (T-Mobile and Orange joined to make EE) and I got a signal on it??

In the US so not too sure of the carriers in your market, but the 6P is designed to be unlocked for any US sim (T-Mo, Sprint, Verizon, ATT I know for sure). It's not like a Samsung where you're tied down to one carrier. But if the phone does need an unlock I'm not aware of, the previous owner may have botched it and thus caused the blacklist.
Any possibility of it being a contract phone with an unpaid bill you think? Because i don't understand why it would be locked to one network and not be a contract phone, unless it was purchased from the EE store and locked to that network by default, I have no idea

I just did some cursory research. Seems T-Mobile (and maybe by extension EE?) is keen on locking SIMs regardless of if they were unlocked originally. Just saw this link http://www.t-mobile.com/company/com...olicy/unlock-your-mobile-wireless-device.html.
Would definitely contact T-Mo directly since they're the one who blacklisted it. Maybe you can talk to them about removing the block since you're not the original phone owner with whom they have issues.

Just made a strange discovery... apparently the IMEI of this phone is not recognised by T-Mobile???
I have no idea wtf is going on, guess I could call them and ask, but by the looks of it, I won't get anywhere with them!
That is odd. I definitely call them, humans are more understanding and creative than the website. Ask nicely, use flattery, and let us know what happens either way.
