[Q] Galaxy S4 intermittent restart - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello..
The Galaxy S4 intermittently restarts on opening applications, under heavy use. Does any one else face this problem.
Could it be software or hardware related? Any help
I have majorly observed this behavior when using the camera app. The app is pointed to have photos and videos to the SD card (SanDisk 32 GB Class 10). I also did have the SD card unmounting on its own issue. I have contacted the SanDisk helpdesk for replacement.
I could probably attribute this to the SD card, But at times the issue happens when the using apps where the SD card is not involved.
Any help or guidance on this would be appreciated..
Sorry if my language is bit confusing..

The same thing is happening to me. Everything I've found says to just replace the phone, which would be easy, except I'm not in my home country right now.... so I'm kinda screwed.

Try to upgrade your firmware to XXUBMEA. It should fix the camera restart problem.

UPDATE 1: SD Card Index
If you are experiencing issues with the Camera, Media Player, Gallery, or SD card, refresh your SD Card Index following the steps below and power cycle your device to ensure the refresh takes effect:
Menu->Settings->Applications->Manage Applications->Select All->Scroll down to Media Storage->Select Clear Data. i tried this on a friends phone it worked for his.
Didn't fix the video recorder issue unfortunately

did not fix sports/action scene mode FC issue on my phone.
yup. Did nothing. I went as far as extracting the dk28 camera apk n odex. Installed it to eb13 after deleting the eb13 files. Well, no go. Still blurry. Its the eb13 build that's the problem. Devs....... Help.
The OP isn't too clear on this, but I don't believe this is intended to fix the frame rate issue at all. It's an attempt to remedy Force Close issues when launching the camera, music player etc. (most apps that use the sd card to store files).
Also I know everybody is frustrated, but before throwing this back as useless. It would be prudent to confirm what bug is being addressed. As we all know there are many bugs. And I do in fact think this will fix an particular issue that I had, but had to use a brute force method to fix.

[Q] captive s7 dual-touch, and TuneinRadio freeze problem :)

Hello all ^^
I own a dual-touch captivescreen s7 with no intergrated SD (i have an 8gb microSD card inserted) , and I'm currently facing couple problems which I'm couldn't find any solution or discussion to them so I was hoping if anyone could have some input on this.
1. captivescreen bug:
There is a person who uploaded a video regarding this issue; when bottom left and top right's clicked , the axis jump to top-left and bottom-right and 2 axises cannot switch positions from a rotation, so during game plays such as pocket legends, it often mis-click on things
There is a video showing exact what the problem is, but I can't post links yet hehe
From what I can think of is that, since Taiwanese rom is also locked in 2-way rotation, could it be what's causing the problem? so I was wondering if anyone else is having the same problem?
2. TuneinRadio stop playing/freeze/system hang then restarts:
It's just when I play musics it randomly stops or hangs, regarding if I'm using wifi or 3g, I think it might of being cache overloading or something? but I don't know how to fix it and it seems most people are happy using TuneinRadio with no such issue.. so I was wondering if anyone had encountered such problem?
I have rooted my s7, but I have not yet used app2sd or link2sd because I'm not very technically smart ....
the reason I rooted is because my s7 came with a build-in free version of document-to-go, and I could not upgrade or install my paid version of the software so I had to root it and remove it manually before I could install the full-version
If anyone's facing that problem, this way could fix it ^^
Thanks guys

Note 4 freezing so bad..

Hello guys.
So my Note 4 started freezing before 1 week, the phone was so great without any issues, suddenly the phone started freezing SO BAD and sometimes restarting, so I decided to do a factory reset, I did it twice and I also wiped cache but the phone is still freezing! The phone has stock android and never rooted it.
Any one else is facing this issues also? Help
I have this problem too, random freezes at random time since 1 week. Tried almost every ROM and even tried the stock firmware again, same problems. Please someone help us ;~;!
I have the same issue when typing, I'm using the google keyboard and when ever I'm typing a message it always catches up. It freezes mid typing and you see the line blinking like its wait for you to type and a couple seconds later is catches up.
I had similar issues, turned out to be a problem with SD card, plug it into your pc and do the SD card check for error.
Exynos or Snapdragon model?
I have Exynos, same issue, N910C

I had this same problem with both note 3 and note 4. Turned out it was the micro sd card i used the same card on both devices. It was a fake samsung card nought from amazon.
I've also got something similar. 910F. Lagging regularly, sometimes so bad the phone restarts itself. Today has been the worst of all, about 5 reboots during the day and frequent lag when it is working.
So far tried changing batteries, removing SD card, uninstalling most recent apps and those which tend to generate notifications, a wipe (without restoring apps/data for everything).
Running out of options now, just tried turning off finger print scanner and svoice to see if that helps at all.
Feels like it must be an app (google?) that updated recently and is causing issues, I definitely get more lag when using google applications (play, chrome etc).

Anyone having issues with the gallery after August update?

Hi everyone. I am from India. After the recent BPH7 update i am having lots of issues with the new gallery.
It just freezes at least 4 to 5 times a day. I have to restart my phone to solve it. Infact today its freezed wveytime i tried to open it.
I had clicked some lovely pics 3 days ago. However when i tried to see them on my gallery, I just couldnt see the clarity after zooming in. They all are blurred. Earlier they werent.
Any solutions? Hard reset seems the only solution .
Any response? The gallery invariably freezes everytime i open it.
I had that issue but a quick reboot fixed it for me.
I'm on complete stock with the EU Exynos version if that's relevant.
Suggestion: try taking your memory card out and see if you can see any photos stored on your internal storage; this would help you eliminate the possibility of it being a slow/faulty memory card however unlikely that is.
However, if you have the same issue, I'd recommend a hard reset as that usually does the trick.
Try connecting it to Samsung Smart Switch or whatever their PC companion program is called now, back everything up of course.
Good luck buddy!

Samsung Galaxy S8 - reboots randomly

I have a new Samsung Galaxy S8 that reboots randomly during the day. The screen will freeze and the phone restarts with no warning. I have heard that it has something to do with the SD card installed, but I have removed my SD card and it continues to reboot. I have also deleted all old apps that are not specifically compatible with Nougat 7.0 thinking about the OS having backward compatibility issues, but the problem persists. Samsung hasn't officially recognized the problem. I had AT&T replace my first S8, but the new replacement reboots more often than the old one. My wife's S8 (bought at the same time) does not have the problem.
UPDATE:
I had AT&T replace my second S8 with S8 number 3. It did not have the rebooting issue until I loaded the first OTA update. Then it started happening again. Following up on the SD card problems that were mentioned, I transferred all of my data from an 8 GB micro SD to a new 32 GB micro SD. The problem seemed to slow down, but it was definitely still there. I booted into Safe Mode and the problem stopped - obviously, the problem was being created by a third party app. Apparently, I missed deleting something in my previous test. I had two different Clock & Weather Apps installed on different pages of my home screen (each set for different locations). I found that one of those Apps that was advertised as a 2017 App was not compatible with 7.0 Nougat. I uninstalled both Apps - that solved the problem. I have since found and installed a Clock & Weather App that was upgraded on May 27, 2017. Everything has been working great since then.

This is not a new issue and has been, recently, reported on all over the place.
Here's a handful of those reports:

Not exactly bootlooping, but random Galaxy S8 reboots should not be a thing
You should be placing this attention to Samsung Support since this, apparently, seems to be a Samsung design flaw.
I wish you the best of luck!

Mine randomly rebooted once when I first got it. I want to say I did something specifically with an app that I normally don't use if i remember right. Needless to say I used it again after that and it has not happened since.
In case it helps. I had the same issue with my s8+. Did a factory restart and it would still restart itself. Mainly when trying to unlock it. So i let it be since i was gone for work. And after about 2 days or so it completely stopped doing that. Its been like 3 weeks and not a single reboot. So maybe it just has to properly install everything or something. I know it shouldnt have done that but it was a new phone with new software so maybe just some glitches somewhere

Also incase it is the sd card. Idk if it is but when i restarted it i erased the android and lost.dir folders on my sd card to make sure it didnt have anything on it from my previous phone.
Hi guys,
I had a lot of random reboot yesterday and then I have enabled the option to "forcer l'autorisation d'application sur le stockage externe" (something to give the ability to save apps in the SD card) in the developper options. And since that, I have no more reboot. So just try and let us know if it's working for you too.
