try using odin 1.3 and not 1.7
first of all, take out the simcard and the ext sd-card.
turn off the kies (dont let it run in the tray)
start odin and put all the needed files in
start the phone in download mode and connect it to the computer.
start the rom burning.

Don't worry, keep your calm. Your phone is not a total brick, it's almost impossible. With Odin3 v1.7 and JM8 + 512 pit, you should be up and running in no time.
As long as you are able to get to Download mode, you can keep calm. Don't worry

Hi there.
With all the confusion/confliction going on, I thought I would put together a Tutorial on here for anyone wishing to install the Overcome ROM on their Galaxy Tab. These instructions can also be used for preparing a new tab for any CWM Ready ROM.
These Instructions use ODIN, so Windows is Required, not my personal choice there, but most users use Windows so I figured that would be best for a Tutorial.
As usual, I am not responsible for your tab breaking, bricking, exploding, setting the world on fire, etc. Although none of that should happen.
NOTE: This is for the GSM GT-P1000. It will not work successfully with CDMA tabs or GT-P1000L/N tabs.
First off, Pre-Installation Preparation.
1. Make sure to have Samsung Kies installed, and your tab at least connected once, to be sure the drivers are correct.
2. Your Tab must be Rooted.
3. If you wish to do a backup, now is the time.
4. You will need to have enough space on your Internal Storage to perform the backup and hold the ROM. 4gb should be a lot more than enough.
5. Download and Extract the following file to your computer: http://www.corodius.com/android/galaxytabock213.zip (Contains "Odin3 v.1.7.exe" "Overcome_Kernel_v2.1.3")
6. Download Overcome v1.4.4 FULL and put it onto your Internal Storage. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=932082
Now, we will Install the Kernel and perform the EXT4 filesystem conversion.
1. Turn off your Galaxy Tab.
2. Turn your Galaxy Tab on into DOWNLOAD mode (Press Volume DOWN and Power On at the same time).
3. Open Odin3 v1.7.exe on your PC.
4. Connect your Galaxy Tab to your PC via the USB cable.
5. Make Sure the ID:COM box is highlighted yellow (meaning it sees your tab).
6. Click on the PDA button and select the Overcome_Kernel_v2.1.3_ODIN.tar file you downloaded earlier (make sure PDA is ticked after selecting the file).
7. The only boxes ticked should be:
A. Auto Reboot
B. F. Reset Time
C. The PDA tickbox
8. Click start and wait for PASS! to show highlighted green on Odin.
9. Your Galaxy Tab will Reboot, and a sexy robot voice will guide you as The Galaxy Tab performs the EXT4 conversion.
10. Sit tight, depending on how much data you have, this can take quite a long time.
11. Once finished, click reboot system now (by pressing the power button).
At this point, You have installed the Overcome Kernel with CWM included and converted the Filesystem to EXT4. It has been reported that many stock ROMs will boot and run fine now, however some may not, but it just depends on your ROM etc. This is why I said to have the ROM ready on your Internal Storage before starting.
Finally, onto the ROM itself.
1. Turn your Galaxy Tab off.
2. Turn your Galaxy Tab on into RECOVERY mode (Press Volume UP and Power On at the same time).
3. Select backup and restore (volume keys to navigate, power button to select).
4. Select backup and wait for it to finish. (This is a Nandroid Backup of your ROM, you can choose to restore this to restore your Original rom.)
5. Select Go Back.
6. Select Wipe Data/Factory Reset.
7. Select Yes, and wait for it to finish.
8. Select Wipe Cache Partition.
9. Select Yes, and wait for it to finish.
10. Go To Advanced.
11. Select Wipe Dalvik Cache.
12. Select Yes, and wait for it to finish.
10. Select Go Back.
11. Now, Select install zip from sdcard.
12. Select choose zip from sdcard.
13. Select the ROM zip you put on your Internal Storage earlier.
14. Select Yes, and wait for it to apply the ROM. (If using Overcome v1.4.1 with included Kernel, the screen will flash during this time. This is normal.)
15. Select Go Back, to return to the Main Menu.
16. Select reboot system now.
That's it! Your system will now boot into Overcome v1.4.4
Many thanks to Alterbridge86 for his absolutely awesome work on the Overcome ROM and Kernel, and Rachid from Droid-Den for his original How-To for MoDaCo's rom/kernel which got me up and running, and which I used as a starting point for my own.
EDIT: The Guide is now updated to use Overcome Kernel for the entire Installation, and removed the unnecessary files.
EDIT2: Updated for Overcome v1.4.4
EDIT3: Updated to use the new Overcome Kernel v2.1.3
Thanks for going the extra mile to help!
excellent post. wish i'd had this when installing a couple of weeks ago - first time i tried to use the new Odin and .pit files..took me 4 hours in all to figure it out lol.
as a side note - i notice that on the original rom post, it says the modem is not included, yet i can make and receive calls ok, without installing a modem or using any kind of switcher etc..not sure what's going on there...confused...
just curious -- what does the "P1_20100909.pit" do?
when I originally converted to MoDaCo's kernel, I flashed just the PDA tar only -- nothing else, and have had no issues whatsoever.
so what exactly is a pit file for?
So how big of an SD card do you actually need? you just said one big enough for the file system it would be great if you had an aprox. size.
Overall great guide! it will help me a lot when I get my Tab on Wednesday.

What I mean by modem not included is whatever modem you originally had before flashing the rom you keep...so that's why you are able to continue to make calls

answered my own question -- searching thru other threads, found this:
Benjamin Dobell said:
PIT files are only ever used when you wish to repartition, which is rarely necessary. There has been a lot of confusion in regards to this as in the past samfirmware was telling users to select a PIT file without repartitioning, which does nothing. Odin doesn't really make this clear either.

which confirms my suspicion that the PIT file in these instructions is not necessary, and is in fact useless if you're not ticking the 'Re-Partition' box.

I actually had the same suspicions, but the original guide I followed contained it so I was not sure, and did not want to leave out a necessary step. Have confirmed with alterbridge86 that yes this file is not needed. I will be updating the guide to reflect this, and to use the Overcome Kernel for the entire guide, soon. Sorry for the confusion guys.

Yey! I managed to installed overcome 1.2.0 succesfully without selecting a pit-file

have you verified that you don't have a protected bootloader? (see --this thread--)
also, the PIT file is not necessary

This message is fine, nothing to worry about It is a part of CWM looking for a possible SD-EXT mount point, which is an ext2 (usually) partition on the SD Card used for the old APP2SD setup. Nothing we need to worry about with our tabs so all good
I am glad to see this has helped many already, and I hope it continues to do so

Hey mate, for the RotoBackup, make sure you have the SDK set up for your particular OS as detailed here: http://developer.android.com/sdk/installing.html
You will also need to make sure ADB it set up for your OS to talk to the device, as detailed here: http://developer.android.com/guide/developing/device.html
Just follow the Windows Instructions for both pages for setting it up.
You also need to make sure you are rooted, and to have USB Debugging enabled at the time so ADB can see the Tab.
Hope this helps

When you installed via odin, was there only 1 tar.md5 file (all in one) and you just added AP and flashed or did you have 3 files, flashing bootloader manually, rom manually and another one that i don't actually know what it is, like this guy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0QcggQ5bAs
also, re-partition was ticked off?
When i was flashing i couldn't figure out why my ROM ZIP had only 1 file and the guy on youtube had 3 files, than i found tutorial that suited me (all in one installation)... i still don't know why are there 2 different procedures...
what CSC region of your phone?
-On 1st post you had ext4 error, more likely your is HK or Some Asia model with bad ext4. If in this case someone had own HK handset successful flash KK update.
PS: I think better way for more people to help. you should post your AP,CP and CSC of your phone.

I was trying to install TRWP but it fails while flashing from ODIN and throws Complete(Write) Operation failed error.
Could any one please be advised the solution on it.

I'm sorry mate but I aint got s clue as to what you can do. The only thing I can think of is to try a different firmware. What are trying to install ? 6.1 or 5.1.1 ?
I would try going up or down depending on what your running.
Is there no way that you can contact Google and ask for your ID ?
Can you access the files on your phone via a PC ?
I would have thought that when you flashed via Odin that it would just overwrite what ever was on the phone before ?
Have you tried to root it before TWRP ?
I'm sure that it will get sorted people are good in here
But it's
All very strange

Hey thanks fro quick response.

I gonna go for 6.1 now. Its getting downloaded .. download sucks though from sammobile. Download is very slow.
No way to contact google and the one who used this phone before.
And yes I able to access file though phone stuck at start mode asking for google ID already synced with phone.
Have you got link for google drive for 6.1 ?

Though normal recovery was the first choice which was not helpful...
I have solved the issue after doing lot of experiments..
If any one has same issue please follow the steps. I hope it helps the needy
1. Download and install RealTerm program
2. Download and copy com.rootjunky.frpbypass-1.0.apk to the device micro sdcard or download once into the device
3. start phone and connect to WIFI also plug into the computer with your usb cable
4. start RealTerm on your pc and under pisplay check the box HALF DUPLEX
5. right click on my computer and select manage once it opens click device manager then modems
6. under modems you should see a Samsung device. right click it then select properties
7. once the properties window opens select modem tab and see what port it is on like com5 for an example
8. now that you know the com port number close all device manager windows and open RealTerm again
9. under the ports tab in RealTerm enter your port number then click change.
10. next click the send tab. you will need to send these two commands with the Send ASCII button
first at+creg?\r\n
then atd1234;\r\n
11. look at your phone and the dailer will pop up.

Hi, I have j510fn and I was a rom tester,
I have a problem since I flashed
J510FNXXU2APK6_J510FNODD2APK2_J510FNXXU2APK2_HOME.tar.md5
to test light stock rom v3 from Kingraheel
what happens is that NOW I can't flash any other firmware by odin... when I click START it says FAIL and in my device there is this text in red
SW REV CHECK FAIL : [aboot]Fused 2 > Binary 1
I just want to flash my OFFICIAL firmware
J510FNXXU1APG1_J510FNPHE1APG1_J510FNXWU1APFC_HOME.tar.md5
but I can't... only APK6 firmware works on odin... any other firmware works.... can you help me?
I don't have any NANDROID backup of previous versions... only of my actual firmware... APK6
My computer does not detect my device... I have the drivers installed, and I tried on all the USB ports... it charges but not open files.... PLEASE HELP

SOLVED, SAME PROBLEM? CONTACT ME
Here is HOW I SOLVED IT:
This error happens when you before have updated from "U1" to "U2" and then you try to flash a firmware with "U1" (UX appears in the firmware "name")
So, the simple solution is to flash the stock firmware with the same "UX" that you had before your device gor bricked.
In my case, testing KingRaheel's ROMS I flashed an Indian firmware (...U2APK6...) at this moment I didn't know I ****ed up. But don't worry, I simply had updated the "U" and how I didn't know it, I tried to flash lots and lots of firmwares with "U1" without knowing what was happening. After long nights, I tried to flash my last firmware from SPAIN (PHE) with "U2" and it worked.
I hope I helped you. I used SM-J510FN (J5 2016)
If you have another device, try the same but with your current model, any questions, ask by twitter/dm
Sent from my SM-J510FN using XDA Labs
I upgrade from galaxy tab 3v rom to galaxy tab 4 ROM, but it says:
<ID:0/003> Odin engine v(ID:3.1101)..
<ID:0/003> File analysis..
<ID:0/003> SetupConnection..

My sister's phone is Galaxy Grand Prime and still running Android 4.4.4. I've searched over the net and there is Lollipop update already for some countries. There's still no update here in the Philippines. Can I update this device using firmwares from other countries? Thanks!

If I flashed Lollipop on this device, all data stored on my device will be deleted?
And I searched the latest version of odin, it is now 3.12.3.

As @waleeds1 said, No. But I recommend you to take backup of all your data nd do a factory reset after you flash Lollipop firmware.
That way you won't get any lags or performance glitches.

Make sure you've a good backup. Nd also you've Samsung USB drivers already installed in your PC.
Power off your device nd boot in download mode by pressing Volume Down + Home + Power Buttons together.
Then open Odin nd connect your phone to PC via data cable nd press volume Up key on phone, then if it shows you "Added" in Odin you're good to go.
Select the AP option nd select the firmware which you've downloaded. Now it'll take some time to verify the md5 as depending upon the speed of your PC. Once it has verified you'll be able to click on other options. So now you've to click on Start nd make sure you don't move your device or the connection doesn't cut off or your device might get hard bricked.
That's it, the flashing time would be about 4-5 minutes. After it is flashed the phone will reboot nd now you can factory reset the device properly for a clean new device.
I've told everything you needed to know.
Enjoy!

The thing you said is correct but I recommend first start your phone without factory reseting @jelmerpeligrino becuase if u dont face any performance or other issues. But if u wish to factory then its still a good choice

Yes I told that in my second post.
Actually I believe he has been using Kitkat from a long time nd for most of the apps, the things have changed. The API differences creates certain problems as it is recommended by Samsung itself to factory reset the device after Android version change.
From Kitkat to Kitkat nd Lollipop to Lollipop factory reset is not needed but for SDK changing it is needed.

No you don't have the right firmware for your device. The baseband difference. Post a screenshot from your About Phone nd also the link of firmware you're trying to flash.

Yes it is normal, It is weird tho how you've two devices connected. Or maybe there's some bug in this version of Odin. Anyways all working good?

So far, it was good. The performance is better now compared to Kitkat and and the sluggishness was gone. Thanks bro!
Btw, do you have any Marshmallow ROM for this device?
