Smart Stay and Smart Scroll issues - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

I bought my wife the S4 and the smart stay and scroll does not work. Anyone else having this issue. And yes, it is turned on...
Anyway to reset smart stay and/or smart scroll feature.
AT&T Galaxy Note 2

Have you checked the sub menus to turning them on to make sure the feature is also on?
Also, is there anything covering the sensor? case? protector?

Yes, everything is on. Phone is naked. I'm guessing sensor not working.
Also, does the eye symbol stay on status bar regardless if on or off? It is always on status bar and always grayed out.
AT&T Galaxy Note 2

Eye icon should only show if it detects eye things I thought... hm.

Returning phone after I got a chance to see what a working Smart Awake and Smart Scroll.
Disappointed I happened to get a bad phone. Oh well... A numbers game.
AT&T Galaxy Note 2

my smart scroll is working, however my smart stay is constantly active, even when my head is turned. I have taken screenshots just to double check

I replaced the faulty S4 with a new one and all is well.
Thanks for the help.

Less responsive section on screen

Has anyone had this happen? I've noticed when using the spen that it was not responding to a part of my screen. I went into sketch (see attachment) and you can see the part that is not as responsive. I say "less" responsive cause if I push down harder with the spen it will respond better. Any ideas????? I don't want to have to return it as I have it rooted and all set up now. I've noticed this about a day or so ago.
Edit: with my finger it works perfectly.

This happened to me. It was on the left side If the screen. It would just skip over that part of the screen. Although a factory reset didn't help. I have since rooted and I don't have the issue anymore.

Hopefully someone knows why or what causes it. Weird that it is only with the spen that doesn't work and not my finger. Did yours work with your finger as well and just not the spen

I'm using a CellTO leather case that has a magnetic flap. This section that was not responding to spen was where the magnetic field was. Dang!!! I actually like this case too. I don't want to keep using it incase it has any prolonged repercussions from the magnets :/

It definitely seemed to me like it had something to do with a magnetic field. But I don't have the same case you have I'm using rubber. I wonder if it had anything to do with me using a metal object to take out my sim. Because it was in the sim card area on my screen.

I'd like Active Display(breathing) more if it wasn't so sensitive...

It's definitely not a battery issue, but it bothers me whenever the slightest tap sets off the clock popup. I don't think it's a case issue since I use a light-weight one (Poetic slim case). I would like to think that the context-processor responds to the disruption in the magnetic field which is why it's so sensitive. I can't test this though.....Does anyone happen to have a flip cover for the Moto X?
I use an app called uListen so I can stream YouTube videos with my screen off. I've noticed that app makes the active display go nuts.

It acts when the phone moves simulating you picking it up. When I'm on my recliner it activates every time I move in the recliner. It does what it is meant to do I like it for checking the time and not having to activate the phone.

Turn the phone over so the screen is facing down. Problem solved.
I love it. I pick the phone up and just swipe to wake. Then with a Nova Launcher gesture (swipe up to toggle Quick Settings) and a custom Sleep tile in the bottom right thanks to GravityBox, I've probably cut my mashing on the power button by probably 95%. I barely have to touch it anymore.
I love the active display but it does annoy me when I'm driving. I stick it in the cup holder and every time the truck moves, the screen turns on and I can see it out of the corner of my eye. And I don't know if anyone else lives in PA, but trying to avoid the potholes and inevitably hitting one keeps the screen on almost the entire time...
I also found I now pick up my Nexus 7 expecting the screen to turn on automatically

Hahaha, I've done the same with my Galaxy Nexus and even my wife's Razr Maxx.
PA here too... and the potholes have become unbearable.
I really like the sensitivity... I think its great that it will pop on virtually anytime I move the phone, but not to the point of wasting my battery. I swear there have been times where I could just wave my hand over the phone and it would flick the time and lock up, but maybe it was just in my head.
I hear ya all on the Nexus 7 deal, I do the same from time to time, just expect it to turn on. Would be something easy for Google to add moving forward though.

Well that just defeats the purpose of the active display
But mine is very sensitive as well. Even when there is no movement I will see it go on . Doesn't really bother me. Only when I use another phone...I end up shaking the phone to get the active display to show

Do you Assist app for driving? I've noticed that after I'm driving for a couple minutes the phone must turn down the active notifications as it won't turn on with little bumps. Sometimes it won't even turn on when I pick it up.
But sitting in my house, it'll turn on every time I bump it.
Cover the proximity sensor and it'll assume it's face down or in your pocket.
The proximity sensor is on ALL the time, and it is used in conjunction with the accelerometer to turn on the screen. If you don't want it to turn on in certain situations, do the above.
I cover it with my microfiber screen wiping cloth sometimes when I want it face up but without AN.

[Q]Flip Case Auto Sleep Function

Hi All,
Did anyone purchase a case with the auto sleep function? It does not seem to work on mine even though advertised.. Does it actually work the with Tab 4?
Thanks.
I've tried running a magnet over it, and can't seem to find the supposed magnetic sensor anywhere.
Oh really? I wonder how safe is it to have magnets close to the screen... I hope no damage is done...
I got a cheap flip case on ebay and it is a smart case. For the price the quality is quite good. The magnet is about 1" from the left edge ON the screen. It has magnets to keep the cover closed also and it can be used as a stand.

I have a case (generic one from Amazon) and the auto-sleep (and auto-awake) functions work well.
I can't find the sensor on my 7. Does it have one?
I bought the Pellem case and it works well

Yep I have an 8

Sorry everyone for the confussion.... Turns out the case I got from eBay was defective... I was able to get one that actually had the auto sleep function working...
I bought the official Samsung Book Cover Case for my Galaxy Tab 4 7". It does have magnets in it to support the wedge/propped up mode. The box even indicated the auto sleep/wake functionality. But it never did work.
I don't know about the 7 as I have an 8 but there is a check box under settings>general>accessories for the flip cover. On my tab if I put a magnet 1" from the top left ON the screen it shuts off. Hope this helps.

Which App is Turning On My Screen

I carry my note 3 (Hyperdrive 7 android 4.3) in a pouch. Something periodically turns my screen to full on, phone gets hit in pouch, and battery burns very fast. I cannot ID the app using the usual battery watching apps. Is there a way to specifically determine what turned the screen on? Thanks!

I also have a gear 1 watch in case that matters.

Biggest annoyance so far with this phone...

My first Galaxy device. I know it's been this way for awhile with Galaxy devices but making it so long pressing the back button to get to the menu/settings window was a terrible idea. I can't even access some in app options due to this unless I use the Assistant Menu feature. Sorry, but I don't like having the Assistant Menu button icon on my screen 24/7. We need root so we can hopefully customize the hardware key shortcuts.
Oh, and I also find part of my palm always in direct contact with the edge of the screen and then the screen doesn't register any touch input until I remove my hand. Have to get use to this. Coming from an LG G3.

I actually have issues like this with note 5 sometimes with no case. Bezels are so narrow, that when a bit of palm is on screen, other touches don't register .. It can get pretty bad and totally unusable.
So I was nervous about getting the edge because of this.
I took to best buy to try it out, do some testing and simulating some clumsy fingering of the device and see if it was worse..
Well I barely had any of the issues unless I tried very hard. But the big difference was, sure..it was possible to touch something like an icon if my fingers or palm overlapped, but it wasn't as bad as my note5 could sometimes get...meaning that with slight overlap on s7 edge, I was STILL ABLE to scroll and make other touches on screen.. Maybe they improved it, but IF its still a bit flaky, its very noticeable to you because its your first Samsung since they've made the side bezels super thin. I hope its not too bad. I usually just like to use a skin or a nekkid phone. But a case sounds like a must with the edge7 if touch detection is jacked. I pad was able to sort it, I hope Sammy can.

I have the same issue. Main reason why I took my S6 Edge Plus back. I messed with this phone at the store didn't have issues. I bought the phone, I catch myself having that issue when I'm laying down because I'm trying to hold it tightly. Again something I hopefully can get used too. Cause I love the phone itself. Coming from iPhone 6S Plus
my annoyance is not being able to change to the font of my liking
By far not having the options of " just once " and " always " to set app defaults.

Download the app "Better Open With". It fixes that issue completely to how it was before.
