Hi All,
Did anyone purchase a case with the auto sleep function? It does not seem to work on mine even though advertised.. Does it actually work the with Tab 4?
Thanks.
I've tried running a magnet over it, and can't seem to find the supposed magnetic sensor anywhere.
Oh really? I wonder how safe is it to have magnets close to the screen... I hope no damage is done...
I got a cheap flip case on ebay and it is a smart case. For the price the quality is quite good. The magnet is about 1" from the left edge ON the screen. It has magnets to keep the cover closed also and it can be used as a stand.

I have a case (generic one from Amazon) and the auto-sleep (and auto-awake) functions work well.
I can't find the sensor on my 7. Does it have one?
I bought the Pellem case and it works well

For an 8 right? Not a seven
Yep I have an 8

Sorry everyone for the confussion.... Turns out the case I got from eBay was defective... I was able to get one that actually had the auto sleep function working...
I bought the official Samsung Book Cover Case for my Galaxy Tab 4 7". It does have magnets in it to support the wedge/propped up mode. The box even indicated the auto sleep/wake functionality. But it never did work.
I don't know about the 7 as I have an 8 but there is a check box under settings>general>accessories for the flip cover. On my tab if I put a magnet 1" from the top left ON the screen it shuts off. Hope this helps.

I bought a smart cover off ebay, one reviewed here. I cant get that part to work. If there a system setting to enable it?
Thanks
I don't think so. Mine from Amazon just works.

The Nexus 7's lid sensor is on the bottom left about a 1.5" half up.
Check your cover's lid for a magnet in the same spot. Either the magnet isn't in the right spot, too weak, or just isn't there.
You can check the N7's sensor by holding a magnet over it.
you could get a paperclip and test the magnet on the smart cover as well :silly:
most likely there's mags on your fridge or shower curtain, easy enough to check

Yea, it's just a crappy cover. If I pull it like 2 millimeters it works properly.
One thing I have to hand it to iDevices over android, third party accessory support. One iPhone 4S - one hundred android phones and tons of tablets.

I have a Nexus 7 3g which I recently got it from Canada and ordered a flip case which had the auto sleep/wake function. However the auto sleep isn't working with the flip case. Can anyone please tell me, if the Nexus 7 3g has the capability of the auto sleep/wake function?? If yes how can I check that on the Nexus 7 or on the flip case (incase the flip case isn't working as it is supposed to). Any help would be much appreciated
Thanks
Yes it does, you should be able to do it with a magnet not sure where the sensor is though

its going to be hard to test the auto sleep/on function without another case or so.
they work by using magnets and well, i wouldnt really put a magnet near the device...
but yes, the N7 does have the auto function, so if i had to guess which one isnt working i would say that your case might be defective
the physical home button was something I did not think would bother me but it is a major design flaw. When putting the device in a case and closing the cover while in sleep mode the cover presses the home button taking a tablet out of sleep mode. so as I carry the tablet the screen turns off and on. this is with a case that uses the four corner tab design. Hopefully, a different case design will solve the issue.
This is the only issue I have had but it is driving me nuts.
hopefully with root we'll be able to disable that. why they chose not to recess the button is beyond me.
I wonder if a case that activates auto screen off and on blocks that from happening.
Does anyone have a case with that built in that could let us know.

Thanks for the info...There are two sides to this coin. It could be a design flaw that the case accidentally clicks the home button. Isn't it their responsibility to design the case properly?
Note 8 has the same button design, I have it since the release date with Samsung's book cover, it hasn't been a problem. Waiting for a similar case for 10.1.
I'vehad the Note 4 for a few days and the S-Pen feels quite loose to me. It can even move around a 1mm when in its silo.
I compared it to my friends Note 3 and it felt very tight. It also feels much more tight when inserted with no movement.
Anyone with the same problem?
I'm just concerned that it will get only worse.
My note 4 have no problem with spen
Try factory reset

I had that problem this morning. I took my case off and reinsert the pen and now it's nice and sturdy again. Maybe the pen wasn't inserted all the way?
I double checked and it's all the way in. If I'm the only one I guess I got a defective one ...

Try putting the pen in with the button facing down. Seems if it's facing up, it does jiggle a little.
It actually feels more firm with button facing down. But it doesn't solve the problem completely in my case
lol, same story here. just wanted to create a tread...
i have 3 note4's at the moment (due to display problems): 2 of them have loose spen, at one device it sits tight like on my note3!
a solution is to put one or two layers of transparent tape around the silver end of the s-pen, although i do not prefer this method
as it looks not good...
I decided to return my device on Thursday since it was actually bothering me, but funny thing is Samsung is still claiming it is not a defect and studying my case. They even went as far as show me another unit with the same problem.
I really hope upcoming batches will have it ironed out.
Does anyone know a solution in fixing the loose s-pen? The one with tape doesn't work out well, and is not really aesthetic...
Have you tried comparong inserting the S-Pen with the button facing up and facing down? I had the same problem on my 10.1 2014 and it was much tighter when the button was facing down in the case. I know it's not a solution, but it might help.

Do about 20 jumping jax with phone in hand. If the spen slips out of place its a defect.
You could then argue it has s heath and should allow you to run with device.
Mine is snug, my Note 3 was a bit loose but it never fell out or anything. I guess if it's inside the silo and doesn't slip out with normal usage it's not a defect.
i added now one layer (one wrung around) of clear tape (which i do not like aesthetically!!), and now the spen sits tight.
button up or down didn't change anything for me...
now, with the pen tight, the device feels a lot more "solid", so for me the loose pen is a defect...
maybe adding a point of glue would also do the trick, i will experiment a little with that...

Please don't use glue in your brand new device. Get it exchanged!
Can someone define 'loose s pen'? I put mine in pressed in all the way. If I wiggle my finger on it, it slight jiggles, but not to the point where it falls off. I have never noticed this on any note before. I wouldn't say its a defect, but more of an annoyance.

Sounds exactly like mine, I can wiggle it a bit, but it still feels like sits there and won't fall out anyway..

If you put it in the other way its snug. Or at least mine is.
S Pen included with my Note 4
Hi i have 2 seperate questions about the S Pen. 1st. Has anyone removed the button on the pen to try to adjust the potentiometers for sending the pen thinner or thicker? I saw a pic of a note 4 S Pen with the button removed on this forum somewhere 2 days ago & it showed the pen having 2 round very small adjustable screw like things & they where explaining which way to turn the front one to adjust it, but I removed my button just to look at it & in my S Pen there is no adjustment mechanisms at all & there's only one round thing total so I'm just curious to see whether it's the same for all note 4 buyers or not?
2nd. I thought I heard something about Samsung developing & very soon making available for sale a newer updated S Pen for the note 4 & note edge to include Rotation & Tilt which was originally supposed to be included with both phones on release days of each. Does anyone know any info at all about this?
I put a magnet to the back of my N6 to see if one of those magnetic mounts would work out of the box and was surprised to see that it turned the screen off when in contact and back on when removed. I'm guessing this would be for a book-style case? Kinda interesting...

One case I've seen already utilises this http://orzly.com/manufacturers/google/nexus-6/multifunctional-wallet-cases-for-nexus-6-black.html
I have a imagnet cradle, it only shuts off by the moto logo. As long as your not putting the moto logo on the magnet it should be fine.

however, this totally borks "touch to transfer" when trying to transfer files via nfc from nexus 6 to nexus 9... seems like quite an oversight by google.

Not by conventional methods. Its called "hall effect" and there is not a setting to turn this sensor off
This is something that has been long implemented in phones.
For instance my old OG Droid. If you bought the car dock that Moto made for the phone. It had a thin magnet in the cradle that was used to tell the phone to enter Car Mode. Or if you had the charging desk cradle. It would enter the Clock mode.
Is there any way to disable this? (kernel or rom?

Also works great with sleeves that have a magnet for a pullout strap. Although it also turns on the screen when you slide the phone in.
This is how the official flip case from Google works.
When I put it near my GoPro mount it turns the screen off.
Once xposed is working on the n6, there's a module called MagnetOff
