When phone was first activated? - Hardware Hacking General

Is there a way to find out when the phone was first bought or activated.
There is a date stamp in the bootloader of every android phone, I was wondering what does it represent?
It seems to represent that, but could it be modified?
Thanks for the help in advance

Unlikely

That's probably the boot loader's build date, but it's possible. Some Nokia phones with Symbian had a code that could tell you that kind of information, but even that was not the real "first" activation date... it was the time it first turned on since last hard reset.

Dear all,
I have a hermes device since it was released on stores and now I want to sell it. The problem is that somebody told me that there are people that can bring back all the numbers, SMS-s that I have sent and received (that are deleted now) and all the SIM cards that I have used (I have more than one SIM card).
If this is true than I have a problem because I don't want somebody to know my business secrets or anything else that is personal about me.
I have a htc tytn running latest htc wm6 rom.
Thank you.

If you completely flash the ROM, I am not sure how someone could do that. A full ROM flash overwrites all of those areas (I think).
It *is* kind of funny that your post is called "identity theft" and your nick is "ahmadinejad". Unless your real name is that - or unless you are THAT Ahmedinejad. Woah - they give you the Internet in Iran.

As I heared it works like in PC when you recover files from hard drive. I know that law enforcment have that kind of software (for mobile phones and ppc)but they are not my concern.
I think that also a number of private companies use that kind of thing, so what if "pirates" have it or can be aquired in a cracked version.
FYI, I'm not from Iran.
Thanks
well just reflash the phone four or five times and even if they worked for the cia or british intelligence they wont get **** of the phone. As , if you believe it is like a pc, in that data can be recovered it is only three layer deep and then major corruption of data becomes a serious issue. But i agree with todd. Basically feel paranoid by all means but just flash the phone with no data synced three or four times and nobody will be able to retrieve anything.
How much do you want for it anyway, and why so worried about phone numbers?

wouldn't a hard reset achieve the same result?
Yes,

Locked!?

Hey guys.
On the HTC i have set up a 4 Digit Pin, so that no one can just grab my phone and use it while i am at work, and its been working great for the last few months, but today all of a sudden, when i press the unlock on the screen the button only works about 20% of the time and when the unlock button is pressed it throws back that my password is wrong. I know the password is right as its my date of birth...
Any ideas on how to unlock this thing?

If you can't unloc anymore, I'm afraid you need a hard-reset.
but off-toppic, way using your date of birth? I mean mostly your colleges known this! No?
Ow, ps welcome on xda.
If you keep trying and it still says incorrect then reset it....
But have you done any software changes? you installed something or removed anything before this happen?
No one knows my date of birth, and its not something that is discussed at work.
No new software has been installed or change.
It just started doing this last night and i thought id do an extended power cycle to fix it.. but it turns out its an issue with windows mobile.. no more phone locks for me. Ive lost so much personal data from doing a hard reset. i am just hoping i can recover some stuff off the memory card from when i did a pim back up a few months ago.

WOW that sucks... I know how you feel... I gotten into the habit of backing up everything when i get the chance now...
If you haven't already Start using "Microsoft MyPhone" ... You need a Live Account but it backs up Text Contacts Calender photos videos.. bunch of stuff
I know the feeling of losing contact number/sms/...
In the earlier state I used also a lock combination (thinking it's save) but unfortunate I have had the same experience like you, so from that moment I don't use it anymore.
hope you can restore a lot.
tray to make on regular base updates, Microsoft MyPhone is a good solution.
well on the bright side i am taking this chance to update the rom because ive lost everything anyway..
hopefully i can retrieve everyones contact numbers, specially my gf's lol.

Yup you got short changed, that is a counterfeit Note 3, If you have a look around the forum you will see some threads of a similar nature. No IMEI is a worry though... it means your phone cannot and will not function on a network.

thanks for responding so quickly, that's kind of what i figured. i have done some research and it seems i can restore the imei number if i can get the phone to root. its on the back of the phone under the battery but not programmed in the phone itself.

As long as you have your IMEI you should be OK. Hardest part will be finding the right OS to root etc. Good luck anyway, sorry you got screwed

thanks, hopefully with any luck some one will have some os suggestions.
First I would try to read all the fake reviews (i've seen more than one) to figure which phone you actually have . I mean even if unlikely, this could be original Note 3, made for Chinese market? no? Once you know which phone it is, it would be easier to find some support and help.

I need help accessing locked phone - 8 Pro

I have a OnePlus 8 Pro that i need to get in to. The phone is mine on my T-Mobile account, i bought it for my brother on his birthday.
2 days ago he committed suicide. No note No explanation nothing. He was the strongest person we all knew. Never showed any weakness.
Even his wife cant understand it. I need to be able to get into the phone. There has to be something in there that shed some light on WHY???
His wife, daughter and I NEED answers. I have a ton of experience rooting and modding phones but i don't know how to get past a lock screen without wiping the phone.
If anybody can help me out i would be forever grateful. I would even pay if that's necessary. I am in so much pain right now over this.
Please help

Sorry to hear this.
If the phones on Android 11 then theres no twrp so there no way to remove the passcode / pin as far as I'm aware.
Here's a guide explaining how to remove a passcode. However I think with an encrypted phone you won't be able to access files even via twrp.
https://forum-xda--developers-com.c...e-hacking/remove-lockscreen-recovery-t3530008
Data recovery companies may be able to help if it's really needed.
Don't advise them as to what's happened just the phone is yours and your brother was using it, don't tell them how important it is or the price may just go up.

Thank you for this info. I will attempt whatever i can.
I will try this and see if it works. I just received a call from the detective and he said they have a device that could do this for us.
I might go that route since there is nothing illegal that he was doing.
was just hoping to do it today as to get it done sooner.
Thank you for the help

As it's Android it'll be possible. But difficult without the right kit..
I'd clarify what the detective wants to see on the device and can you be present for the unlock.

As insensitive as this sounds, I am a homicide detective. If he had a fingerprint lock on the phone, you could use his physical fingerprint from his hand prior to burial to unlock the phone. We have used this method several times with success.
Regardless, my condolences to you and yours.

Yeah i was hoping to be able to do just this but since the family members are not very etch savvy, they power cycled the phone off and because of that the first unlock into the system has to be with the numeric password.
I rebuilt his laptop for him a couple months ago so i have the password to get into it. I'm hoping that he saved his email credentials in it. I know that after multiple attempts into android it allows you to change password through the email. This is the last thing i can think to do.
I reached out to OnePlus this morning and the woman who was answering my questions said she had no answers for me. she kept saying i could factory reset it through recovery mode. I already know that, i need the info on it. I'm thinking about reaching out to google also. Who knows they might help since the phone is in my name on my account.

Not yet. I had an appointment to day with the funeral home to get access to his body so we could use his fingerprint but the phone was turned off since his last login.
It now required the numeric password before logging in. I have one shot left that i can think of. If i can gain access to his email i might be able to reset the password that way.
Fingers crossed. It was so hard yesterday going to the funeral home. We all need answers

I saw that. unfortunately i don't have his email credentials for his Find My Device.
Also the sm card was removed my his wife before she gave it back to me unfortunately.
Although it does connect to my Wifi at home... I'm almost to the point of giving up.
I don't think we will ever know why he did what he did.
Thank you to everyone that jumped on this thread. I love this community.
I kinda don't buy the OP story but here is my take:
- Doesn't need a SIM to get/use Find my device working but does require Google account access which is recoverable easily.
- It's trivially easy to recover a Google account with the phone number of the deceased unless the person specifically removed those options and used for instance an authenticator app (of if you don't have the actual SIM or access to that phone number but that would be strange).
- If you cannot recover the account that way, you can still recover it using a legal path by providing the correct inheritance documents to Google (through a lawyer if required) which should pose no issue (again this should pose no issue and while it would take time, it would work).
- Whatsapp cloud backup (on Google drive) is enabled by default and if you're after that, it's probably gonna be trivially easy to restore said backups on any new phone by using the SIM card of the deceased. Unless the person specifically disabled this to prevent this.
You can most likely recover Whatsapp messages without even unlocking the phone. This whole process is actually not hard and requires no tech help and can be done through the legal processes.
Added to all this, I checked your history and saw that you requested help before unlocking a Pixel phone that magically came into your possession before. So it seems you have a pattern of coming into possession of locked phones that makes me very suspicious of your demand.
I'll report this thread and ask a mod to review it.
Sorry. I also have doubts any time I see a story here asking for help unlocking a phone. Always sounds suspicious, and furthermore where are the mods here? Aren't there rules that state no requests for help unlocking phones??
Here is the OPs other post:
" Junior Member11 postsThanks: 2
I have a 64gb Pixel 4 XL that i want to unlock and use on T-Mobile.
The phone was never actually on a Sprint account. It was never technically paid off by a consumer. Its also never been activated on the sprint network to my understanding. (Which are all required to have sprint send an unlock code)
It was given to me by a Sprint store manager when they had to clean out end of year inventory.
I'm trying to figure out if i can unlock it somehow without having to get sprint to send the unlock code.
I don't really want to go through the hassle of explaining to them how i got a hold of it when they look at it in the system.
Any help would be greatly appreciated"
@San Diego The moderators are here and monitoring the thread since it has been created. And these are the XDA Forum Rules to cross-check.
To ask for assistance is not against the rules, and if you read back in the thread quite a few legal possibilities have been given. They obviously didn't delivered the desired result. However, as soon as the discussion or advices deviate towards the obscure side or to paid unlock services this would be removed immediately.
If you check the thread, from which you quoted, you'll see that moderators were acive in it, too.
Stay safe and stay healthy!

Factory Settings Questions - Please help

I have some Factory Settings questions as I’m trying to change my boot screen image. My Factory Settings have a 3 digit passcode that I don’t know. It’s not 126. I’ve tried all 1000 possibilities, it actually didn’t take that long, and nothing worked. I later read one comment that said you need to wait 30 seconds between attempts. Can anyone verify this? Also, on 6.0 can anyone verify that you can set your own boot image and aren’t limited to the pre loaded ones? I don’t want to spend a lot of time trying to get in only to not be able to set my own image. Thanks!

If I were you, I would start by mentioning the headset brand in detail. Then it's worth to search for a similar device on this website. A factory reset gives you the option to do a new start with new password. Almost every Android device gives you also the option to change your wallpaper.

Hello and thanks for the reply. I have a very specific head unit that very few, if any, people have looked to change the boot image. It’s the Porsche Classic Radio (PCCM) but I have it in a DeLorean. It’s made by Kramer in Germany. I emailed them for the code and they didn’t know it, which leads me to believe they didn’t develop the software. It was probably developed in China. Thanks for your help.
