Factory Settings Questions - Please help - Android Head-Units

I have some Factory Settings questions as I’m trying to change my boot screen image. My Factory Settings have a 3 digit passcode that I don’t know. It’s not 126. I’ve tried all 1000 possibilities, it actually didn’t take that long, and nothing worked. I later read one comment that said you need to wait 30 seconds between attempts. Can anyone verify this? Also, on 6.0 can anyone verify that you can set your own boot image and aren’t limited to the pre loaded ones? I don’t want to spend a lot of time trying to get in only to not be able to set my own image. Thanks!

If I were you, I would start by mentioning the headset brand in detail. Then it's worth to search for a similar device on this website. A factory reset gives you the option to do a new start with new password. Almost every Android device gives you also the option to change your wallpaper.

Hello and thanks for the reply. I have a very specific head unit that very few, if any, people have looked to change the boot image. It’s the Porsche Classic Radio (PCCM) but I have it in a DeLorean. It’s made by Kramer in Germany. I emailed them for the code and they didn’t know it, which leads me to believe they didn’t develop the software. It was probably developed in China. Thanks for your help.

Ha, now it becomes understandable .... really a needle in a haystack. But… you never know….there are websites with codes….will be also a challenge for several people here.

I am searching for the exact same answer, as I am in the same position of using the PCCM in a different car. Have you found the answer? Do you know what software the PCCM is running?

[Q] {Descuss} Hard Reset vs Factory Reset

Ok everyone, I know this sort of sounds like a noob thing. But this question has been bouncing around in my head for a good while now. And I would really like to get a definative answer.
Now my initial question was is there a deference between the two types of resets?....I ask this because of these reasons. One I am a T-Mobile US customer and I had to call Customer support about an issue I had with my HD2. It was freezing on the orange Windows splash screen. The customer service rep I first spoke with told me I needed to do a Factory Reset and walked me through the process. After I got off the phone with them I did a test soft reset to see if it would freeze again. And sure enough it froze on the orange Windows splash screen again. I called back, the second customer service rep told me that the first rep should have had me do a Hard Reset using the volume up and down keys and the power button, and this is the only true way to reset the HD2. The rep walked me through the procedure. Before I got off the phone with the rep I did three soft resets and my HD2 never froze on the orange Windows splash screen.
This made me wonder why this worked when my HD2 said "preparing first boot" each time and I had to go back through the set up on my HD2 both times. So I looked through the owners manual I downloaded from T-Mobile's website. And it made me further wonder if it is a difference between the two. The below quote comes straight from the owners manual.
There are two ways to do a factory reset. One way is perform a clear storage process through the phone settings. The other way is to perform a hard reset by pressing certain buttons on your phone, in cases when you are unable to start up your phone and enter the phone settings.

Now I come to the greatest site there is for a HD2 owner and my trusted companion XDA looking for a answer. This is what I found, a post in a thread called "[Q] Factory/Hard reset". this is the post by member AllGamer.
depends which of the 2 you are referring to
technically it's 3 methods
the user accessible one from the settings screen, only resets settings and internal SD stuff
the one via the secret code ones, formats everything
the one via the 3 button combo is a little less invasive than the secret code one

So can someone or everyone please elaborate more on this for me. I am truly trying to learn as much about my HD2 as possible. Plus I think this info would be very useful to others. And FYI this is the first thread I have ever started here at XDA. Thanks to one and all here at XDA this site ROCKS, and to every last developer here thank you. Also thanks in advance to anyone that replies.
OK the link you posted to there is referring to a samsung phone so Im not sure how thats relevant.
I was always led to beleive that the two methods of hard reset performed exactly the same function, the only diference being that one was possible to perform without booting WM.
Im sure someone with more technical knowledge than me could chip in and tell you if theres a difference but I dont think there is.........
Thanks for your reply.

It wad late last night when I posted me original post and I did not notice it was for a Samsung Galaxy S, that explains the third method that is mentioned in the post. But still it supports my hypothisis of it being some kind of difference. I have further evidence of this cause I advised someone in the T-Mobile forums to do a hard reset of their HD2. They responded and said they did a factory reset and it did not fix the problem. Then I told them they needed to do a hard reset with the external buttons not a factory reset. They then responded saying they did the hard reset and the problem was fixed. Further if it is not a difference besides the way you access them. Why the two different names? I don't know maybe someone will post here that knows or maybe I will find my answer on my own. Thanks for the response though.
Its the same thing. End of story.
Thanks for your post.

You may be right, and I might just be reading more into it than it is. But from my personal experiences and what I have found so far on this question (wich is not much) makes me believe it is not the same thing.
What I am really looking for here is for someone that fully understands the actual things that take place when you do both of these process to your phone. I mean like what actually happens at the programming level. You see what I kind of think happens is the Hard Reset doers a full systems cleansing, resets all registry entries and values by accerssing files that the Factory Reset does not have permission to. Also I think the Factory reset option is mor of a storage/memory cleansing making the phone appear to be reset to defaults without actually reseting all values. I have no actual substantial proof of this yet, it is just a a generalized hopothosis right now. So if I am just being stupid I appologize, but if I am not and someone can explain it to me I would be very thankful.
I always thought it was different ways of saying the same thing... and that the 2 methods performed the same operation. It might be possible that the clear storage way doesn't do a full hard/factory reset and it just clears storage.
Bump Bump
Ok it has been a couple of days and I am really hopping someone with the knowledge to give me some kind of definitive answer to this question will see this. Or at least have a thread with a good discussion on this subject. Thanks again!
It's the same thing.

Seicane H276L -- What type HU is it? ROMs available?

Sorry for the n00b'ness of this post. I tried to post the link directly to the unit, but the forum is preventing me from doing so. If you search for "H276L" on seicane(dot)com, it's the more expensive (8-core) unit.
I'm highly considering buying this unit, but I want to make sure there are ROMs that are being developed for it. I had an MTCB Joying unit in my last car that worked like crap until I found a good ROM for it on here. If this unit's platform isn't being developed on here, I have no interest in buying it. Being a Jeeper, it'd be super handy to have my trail apps (Gaia GPS, AllTrails, etc.) run directly on my head unit, but if I'm going to spend $ on my HU, I'm gonna get one really worth my while.
TIA!

Looking for Roms!
Hello,
I recently did purchase this unit and I have been extremely unhappy with the stock ROM. I am looking now to root the device later today (putting together a tutorial right now. I am still looking for a ROM however. The initial unit seriously has no apps that function fully. Every app force closes or doesn't function as expected. I am extremely technical and can usually fix any issues. I worked with Seicanes (non-existent) support for the last month with no success. They will require you to pay shipping to and return (so basically if you ship it back and want another you are spending a few 100 more). I am going to try and root and install custom ROM instead, if I can find one.
Thanks,
Brady

Thanks Brady,
Please keep me posted. I pulled the trigger on this guy 2 days ago -- waiting for it to ship. I had an Eonon unit in my Cadillac, and it was the same story. Support is useless, stock ROM is crap, but with the right ROM, it becomes awesome.

Hello,
After many trial and error attempts I was able to finally find an extremely amazing OS! Malaysk is the way to go once you get your Seciane Unit. Everything works fully and is extremely easy to use. The installation was really easy honestly and it didn't take long to get it to work correctly. If you go to: https://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=3590033 you can view the forum based on the unit you have and get the correct firmware. I used the free (LITE) version for about 1 week and then decided to pay the $20 to the developer to get the full version (SO WORTH IT!!). @Malaysk did an amazing job and this is the way to go!
Thanks,
Brady

Brady, thanks for this link. I have h221 and it appears I might be able to use the rom. What I can't do is get into recovery, and I can't get into developers options. I'm on a stock Android 9 and for some reason, they disabled the ability to tap the build # seven times to get to developers options. Did you have this problem, and how did you get into recovery mode. I searched everywhere and tried all combos of holding the reset button, no luck. I emailed secaine but no luck so far. Any help appreciated, Thanks johnm
Update and recovery instruction
Great to hear! I actually had the exact same issue as you and I found that seicane was of no help. However I finally figured out how to get into recovery mode (don’t need to do anything with rooting or getting into developer options). To get into recovery you should have a pin hole reset button. Do the following steps.
1. Hold in reset button until unit powers off and you see side buttons blink (10-20 seconds it usually took)
2. Immediately after this happens let the reset switch go
3. Immediately after this hold in button again until lights blink once (about 1-2 seconds)
4. Press and release button a third and final time and it will boot into recovery mode. (Quick press release)
After I got into recovery I wiped cache, then factory reset, rebooted, installed the recoveryinstaller apk file (included with Rom download) it reboots you and installs new rom and you will be good to go!
Thanks,
Brady

What unit do I have?

Hi, I want to be able to update my firmware but it seems this is not a genuine unit from googling, I bought it off AliExpress a long time ago, was working great but now the control buttons are not all working, eg the back button doesn't go back anymore but brings up the settings like option button, done a factory reset but still the same, android auto hardly understand and commands, works find on phone when not connected to android auto, hoping an update might fix that but can't find anything, anyone any idea from the pictures?
Thanks
No, I would try to contact the seller and ask for help.
This firmware is completely unknown.
Odd ball
Ok, thanks, seller wasn't much help on AliExpress so I tho i give here a try if someone might came across one of these before

By the way... As I can read on your pics, the Android API is called 28. If it would be Android 10, you should read API29 in there.
That means, this is a fake Android 10 version.Instead this is an Android 9 version.
Doesn´t make things better I think.
It´s often a mess with the seller as they even don´t know what they are selling.
Hope that someone has already seen this kind of firmware/MCU, but I have no real hope.
Pardon my ignorance, but quote: "was working great" and "hoping an update might fix that" seem inconsistent. If it was working correctly, why would it need an 'upgrade' to fix it? Surely there is some other reason it is now not working correctly?

Calm down folks...
In most units you should be able to adapt the hardware buttons and touch buttons somewhere in the settings.
As I don´t know your specific unit, you need to search yourself... sorry to say.
At least, I don´t think that a firmware update would help here, as those settings are persisted.
So take your time and step through the internal settings of this unit. May be there is something hidden behind a PIN. If there is something like that, you need to try to get the PIN from the seller. They should know them.
...but be really careful not to change anything if you are not sure. Can make things seriously bad.

I have the pin and I have went in to settings for the buttons and dials, setting has not been changed and no matter which button settings I use, no difference
I'm calm alright dont worry, just dont understand the point and purpose of a reply that just picking the start and end of my post and completely ignored the rest.
Because the piece in between is irrelevant. If it was working fine then no update is needed unless you have installed or changed something since that is not compatible with the original firmware. If you have not, then the firmware has not changed itself to make something not work.
I'm sorry you cannot see the logic in that, I'll leave the thread now.

Hikity Android Head Unit

Hey guys. My partner has just purchased a second hand Hikity. I have installed it, factory reset it then connected it to my phones hot-spot to update all the apps.
The only problem we're having now is the damn thing ain't turning off when the ignition is off and I cannot find the canbus protocol for a Citroën Xsara Picasso.
I updated the firmware, everything is now in chinese and none of the google apps now work. Does anyone have the english firmware these things originally came with.
According to the information on the System Info section:
Model: F9212B
XY Auto: 7.3.7 (X2)
MCU 4.2 (X2)
CAN Pro: 9.0.2
Android 10
Posting here to see if anyone can help with these issues.

Any firmware update resets all settings and you need to set it first to your language in the settings.
Then you need to connect your unit again with the google account before using them.

Seems to be a quite special issue on your system.
May be wait for someone who is familiar with your special device.
In the mean time, you should have a look at this thread. May be you find something in there.
By the way: The not turning off issue is related to wrong installation. You need to check clamp 15 and clamp 30.
If you don´t have the right CAN-box you even won´t be able to get anything from the car.

It doesn't have a CAN-box, it does the CAN bus straight through the unit. What is clamp 15 and clamp 30?

I search the forum but nobody seems to have the stock firmware for my model of Android unit as its version is 7.3.7, I cannot downgrade it to a previous version.
Right OK. Finally got the correct firmware after many hours of using Google translate. It works to a certain degree but the physical buttons on the unit do not work at all. Any ideas on how I get them to work again.

There should be a page in the settings of the unit where you can set the physical buttons. Mostly hidden behind a special pin. You may ask in the related threads for your unit if you don´t know the pin already.
I've got in to that setting but when holding the correct buttons down, I keep getting study failed error.

I think you don´t have the right firmware for your unit then.
Then I'm stumped. I can get it in to recovery mode but with no physical unit buttons and the USB keyboard not being recognised I am unable to factory reset it completely. I'm struggling to locate the original Xyauto stock firmware it came with.
what password do you used for the factory settings?

Help With Head Unit Identification

Hey I recently purchased a Hikity 10.1 head unit. This thing has an awful custom rom and I was hoping to be able to flash the stock or a modded rom onto it. Its def all over the place as well I can't tell what exactly its on. It says its android 11 which is obviously wrong but aida64 says api level 29. So gives me a little bit of a clue. But one thing that's puzzled me a bit is the android number in the radio itself it reads as D02022HA16_AHD_0012_V009_HIFI which I'm guessing is some custom version from hikity but I can't find much info on it and I don't want to end up bricking it. I've included some shots from the head unit of their screen, aida64, and faketest. I do know its a full_8227L_demo by aida's screens but I want to make sure I am flashing the right thing if its even possible to flash it. Id love to put on supermod as that's what I had on my last unit but again, I want to be sure. (This was a christmas present, had I bought it myself, would have just got one I knew.)
Also I tried multiple times to install CPU-Z but it will not work no matter what I do. It opens and closes soon as it opens. I've tried different versions and tried factory resetting and trying it. Still won't work so I have no way of getting any information at this time from it.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Let me know if more info is needed!

Op suggest read of forums, get sense of what your unit is and you could then search for unit based on MCU prefix. There's a million posts that detail that (mostly from yours truly

I swore I got it in the right spot. Guess not though. I couldn't never find the correct forum I guess. But I appreciate the help I'll look around more. Unfortunatley the reseller was absolutely no help. Basically holding any information hostage for good feedback and refused any help at all until I left some.
