[Q] Is it android 4.3 next or key lime pie - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

It seems pretty certain that the next update is still Jelly Bean. Patience.

It is just a rumor, isn't it?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD

Everything is a rumour. Google never announced anything. Some rumours say 5.0/KLP, some say 4.3/JB. No official word from Google means anything is possible. Patience.
BTW, this is not related to N7. So why post in here?

Who cares. It'll be out when it's out, and be called whatever it's called. Some people are treating this like it's going to change their lives or something. Chill out.

Because Android is hardware agnostic, meaning it is not related to any particular device. It's not exclusive to the N7. This forum is specific for N7 related issues. Which is why such a question in this forum is out of place.

Yup! Most updates are slightly, if any, different cosmetics and maybe a new feature or two...I don't see the excitement /panic about updates.

agree with you....

Next version in only Google wants manufacturers to catch up with the software, carriers oem's giving 4.1 updates if Google update is klp whole mobile companies are one version behind.. Not even in 4.2

I'm betting google is done with android and will start selling nexus unicorns and leprechauns. Then other company's like Samsung will take it and make them fatter with a bunch of gimmicks.

I find it really odd Google made a point of saying the ota was coming mid-july then released it the day they announced it. I mean I believe its happening it just seems weird, saying that it was out TODAY!!1!1! Would've stolen the news day on every tech site and been free advertising.

That makes a little more sense, I still think it would've been good publicity to make that known with the official announcement, seems like something apple would do (in a good hype-building way).
They said in the keynote that this exactly what would happen.
You will receive a free galaxy nexus....minutes after booting it up you will receive a ota update to 4.1 preview.....

It has been proven, "facetious" and "satire" don't work on public forums.
Forums only activate the lowest 10 percent of available brain cells.
Only thing lower would be Yahoo news report reader comments.

The Question is Do you need Root Today.\?
You do not have to ask permission to root or not..With this being a nexus and knowing you made backups(well even if you did not) you can very easily go back to Stock or near stock.
I think google is going to skip the 42 update . They are may be afraid someone will have a heart attack caused by over excitment for the push of the file.. They will delay it to a less enthusiastic time...

What happened to the stock camera live effects?

Was it just an exclusive feature to the galaxy nexus/ ICS?
Is there anyway to port the camera app to work with nexus 4?
Bump

its the same on the n4 as its on the gnex with jelly bean. the effects are in the gallery. when you go to a picture, on the bottom right are 3 intertwined circles. press that. the only difference in the camera app between both nexus is that the n4 has an hdr option. other than that, they are the same.

look at the date on that video. different versions of android had different camera setting. i also have a gnex, those dont exist in jelly bean.

That's an awfully useless answer. Updates are supposed to add and fix features, not remove them. It's quite odd that they would take out a feature they had on 4.0 in 4.2.

Seriously, what is in 4.4 that frustrates you not having it in 4.3.1? What magical hardware feature is going to be unlocked when you load 4.4? I'm curious because from what I can see of 4.4 there is very little of interest to most people other than being on the latest.

Assuming, of course, that this is actually a part of 4.4. Since the purchase only recently closed (what, maybe a week ago?) I question whether Google has had the time and opportunity to integrate this into 4.4. Seems more likely that this would be a cornerstone of a 5.0 release given the timing. <sarcasm> And with the stunning amount of information we have available on 4.4 </sarcasm>, I think it is safe to say we'll have to wait until there is a 4.4 release before we know for sure.

From the little news we heard about the takeover was that they were already integrated into the Android team for several months. But the takeover might be a reason for the delay, that although the work was done the legal matters took longer than expected before they could be finalized.

Keeping my fingers crossed that it is a part of 4.4. Until the deal closed, it would have been unwise of Google (legally speaking) to release any version of Android with Flexycore code built in. That may explain a little of the delay in seeing a Nexus 5 as well as having a 4.3 release. It just seems from a marketing perspective, though, that they might steal a lot of thunder from a 5.0 release by putting tech in 4.4 which gives such a performance boost. But then Google doesn't follow the same marketing path everyone else does, now do they?
Maybe he's excited about the few new UI integrations? Not a big deal but some people like it.

Assuming we saw an inadvertent picture of the Nexus 5 back at the beginning of September, it seems odd that here we are a few days away from 2 months later without even an announcement. The device back then looked a lot more production and less prototype. That says to me delay but no clear reason why. Granted it is an assumption on my part (and maybe I am reading a lot into nothing more than a picture) and I do not have strong feelings one way or the other about it, nor do I think there is some nefarious plan to keep either the Nexus 5 or KitKat from us. I am also more than willing to admit that I am wrong, but in the end I am just engaging in speculation to keep myself busy until something more definitive comes along.

I couldn't find anything on the internet or YouTube to point me in the right direction.
itll be out officially when google officially releases it. only google knows when that will be. asking when its going to be will only get you opinions when the person giving the opinion thinks google will release it.
The rumours are "somewhere in the coming weeks". There's no official ETA. Best is to be patient. It will be there when it's there.

HTC stated the Google Play Edition HTC One would be getting 4.4 within 15 days of KitKats unveiling/release (October 31), so we should be seeing KitKat for Nexus 4 within the next few days. I don't think Google would want to risk alienating Nexus users any further by releasing an update to another device before Nexus devices.
Really?
