Why exactly?! Google has to announce it first, which as of this moment have NOT officially done. So you're getting frustrated for no reason right now.

Seriously, what is in 4.4 that frustrates you not having it in 4.3.1? What magical hardware feature is going to be unlocked when you load 4.4? I'm curious because from what I can see of 4.4 there is very little of interest to most people other than being on the latest.

Assuming, of course, that this is actually a part of 4.4. Since the purchase only recently closed (what, maybe a week ago?) I question whether Google has had the time and opportunity to integrate this into 4.4. Seems more likely that this would be a cornerstone of a 5.0 release given the timing. <sarcasm> And with the stunning amount of information we have available on 4.4 </sarcasm>, I think it is safe to say we'll have to wait until there is a 4.4 release before we know for sure.

From the little news we heard about the takeover was that they were already integrated into the Android team for several months. But the takeover might be a reason for the delay, that although the work was done the legal matters took longer than expected before they could be finalized.

Keeping my fingers crossed that it is a part of 4.4. Until the deal closed, it would have been unwise of Google (legally speaking) to release any version of Android with Flexycore code built in. That may explain a little of the delay in seeing a Nexus 5 as well as having a 4.3 release. It just seems from a marketing perspective, though, that they might steal a lot of thunder from a 5.0 release by putting tech in 4.4 which gives such a performance boost. But then Google doesn't follow the same marketing path everyone else does, now do they?
Maybe he's excited about the few new UI integrations? Not a big deal but some people like it.

Assuming we saw an inadvertent picture of the Nexus 5 back at the beginning of September, it seems odd that here we are a few days away from 2 months later without even an announcement. The device back then looked a lot more production and less prototype. That says to me delay but no clear reason why. Granted it is an assumption on my part (and maybe I am reading a lot into nothing more than a picture) and I do not have strong feelings one way or the other about it, nor do I think there is some nefarious plan to keep either the Nexus 5 or KitKat from us. I am also more than willing to admit that I am wrong, but in the end I am just engaging in speculation to keep myself busy until something more definitive comes along.

This most likely IS the final retail software.
do you really think that google will push out another OTA update in 2 days after this?
lol
If the software isn't perfect even on release day, Google will still issue updates accordingly. Its not like Google will sell you a phone, and then not fix any issues. So even if battery life is not perfect on day one, that could easily be fixed with an update. I am buying on day one no matter what, as I desperately need a new phone.

What's wrong with Google? I hope they get their sh*t together and release a final ota that fixes all the current bugs. I would think that they would update the software before the release to do any last minute debugging.

Seems like the devs over at google might be having a hard time getting a 3.4 kernel optimized for android devices... As far as I know, it's the first phone to use the 3.4.x kernel branch. Most other ICS or JB android devices use the 3.0.x branch.

Because Android is hardware agnostic, meaning it is not related to any particular device. It's not exclusive to the N7. This forum is specific for N7 related issues. Which is why such a question in this forum is out of place.

Latest rumors are that Samsung is already working in version 4.3 for samsung galaxy s3, so I expect the update to come even earlier.
LOL, just hope it'll be ready before Android 5, or else samsung is never going to catch up with the latest firmware. They haven't even release android 4.2, and they're suposed to be working on Android 4.3? What a joke.
Either way, I gave up waiting for the laggy Samsung firmwares.. even Omega or ARHD start lagging after a while.

Hey. Just curious his long it would take the Xposed developers to get those mods running on 4.4. I mean obviously this is just for conversation purposes but do you think it will be a big thing getting it set up for Kit Kat.? Few days to move them over? Weeks? I've got the official 4.4 on my Nexus 7 and really a lot of it seems the same. Almost seems like a pointless update.. So what do you guys think?

Oops. Posted before Googling. Should have known better. The Xposed developer says 4.4 changed a lot of stuff and he needs to get it working on 4.4. He is waiting on the Nexus 5 to leave the warehouse on November 22. So I would say at least sometime in early to mid December... Dang. Kinda makes me wish I wasn't waiting on an OTA. If they do deliver on their promise of today/tomorrow, that'd be awesome.
Someone on reddit posted it might be 15 workdays, which might make more sense and is probably likely if it isn't released today or tomorrow.
Football did tweet that 4.4 GE was nearly finished/ready for rollout and sense 5.5 on android 4.4 was in early testing.
We'll see, I guess. I'm probably gonna convert to GE until android 4.4 + Sense 5.5 comes out.

Will the HTC One for the US (the Unlocked) omit the 4.3 update and go straight to 4.4 KitKat?
Although I'm not that eager for 4.4 it's the fact that we still don't have the new Sense yet that makes me ask.

It already has 4.3. If you're talking about Sense 5.5, then no, it won't get it until it gets the 4.4 update.
The details of the KitKat rollout for the HTC One were shared in an interview with Engadget.
