[Q] Clean up /system, reboot, full again - Galaxy Y GT-S5360 and Duos 6102 Q&A, Help & Troubl

I've started working on my own custom ROM and I'm not quite familiar with most things. This is a problem I'm facing for the first time, I never remember having such problems with my system partition before.
Everytime I want to replace a system apk that I've modded and increased it's size a bit, I always have no space. So for each push, I'm forced to delete a system app I don't need and I ran out of apps to delete now, this sucks.
Here's the problem:
Let's say, I have 1MB free space in /system, I want to transfer a 2MB apk in there but I can't. So I delete for example QuickOffice.apk which frees up 7MB, I then succesfully push my modded system apk, reboot and when I check back the system partition instead of having atleast ~5MB free space, it's back to 0kb free space.
What the hell is it's problem? Why does it get full without even touching it?

U forgot data partition...
Each nd every app has got its own amount of data nd cache..
** rooting is new for me,

In /data I seem to have 25MB free space, when I go to /system I have 0kb free space. That must mean they are seperate?

Checked that out and it shows 30MB free space. Oh Android..
Does that mean when working on modding a ROM I must wipe data and have no apps installed at all?

Delete
app cache , there unused .odex file and davik cache
by using any memory cleaner app you can also use link2sd as in it there is a option to clean all the above things as mention
Press thanks if i helped

Using app2sd but get a Low On Space message after installing apps?

Why is this? My app2sd space is 300+mb but why it seems like my apps installed in my phone memory?
I need to uninstall some my apps to get rid of the Low On Space message in the notification bar
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA Premium App
1)verify your apps are actually on the ext partition. Use Root explorer to verify the links.
2)try "cachesd"
3)try "datasd", seriously slows down boot-up.
edit: Thought you meant apps2sdext by darktremor.
A2SD doesn't move the entire app to the SD card, only part of it. I believe that if you are root, there is a method known as A2Ext which makes use of a partition the user makes on the SD card and treats that partition as if it were part of the internal memory, thus making it unnecessary to use A2SD. Can someone with more knowledge on this topic clarify this?
i've had the same problem for the last 6 months, never been able to fix it. I have 20 mb internal storage left, and a2sd is definitely working (partition shows up in Titanium Backup, and i have a LOT more apps than would fit normally on internal). Someone recommended I move my dalvik-cache to sd, never tried it, but I'll look at it soon.

Ive tried typing a2sd cachesd in terminal emulator. But my phone memory are still decreasing after i install sniper vs sniper online from 30mn to 20mb. And now the Low On Space message are back on my notification bar.
And yes, i use darktremor app2sd.
Other suggestions of what to type in the terminal emulator?

You guys definitely need to move the dalvik cache to SD. I forget the exact term to type into terminal emulator but I think there is an a2sd app available on the market which you can use to do it. Its called A2SDGUI

like britoso said, try datasd. that should clear up a lot of space
I had a similar issue..not sure if my solution will work in your case, but worth a shot:
In Root Explorer, go to the "/Cache" folder
Delete all the "downloadfile-(number).apk" files
See if that fixes it
It seems as though the marketplace gunks up that folder whenever it's updating an app, or something along those lines.
I have the exact same issue. I'm always hovering around 20MB
have you tried flashing the dark tremor's script that does the trick for me

a2sd memory problem

hey !
I've partitioned my sd as 256mb a2sd and my all apps are installed in that memory..but now a2sd partition is full and i cannot install any app..It says memory full( but I've 132mb left in phone's internal memory). so my question is how can i use that memory to install my apps.
wen, app2sd becomes not worthy for u, u r left with data2sd..
to enable data2sd--
1st of all delete the app2sd script..
flash any fugumod kernel..
then make a file & write in it "mmcblk0p2"..
rename the file to "fs.data2sd"
move fs.data2sd to /sdcard/Android/data/fugumod
restart..
u r done... )

now this is something new..so what will it enable?
And my question was how to install apps on internal memory( which is 132 mb free ).. how to use that memory ?

App2SD script is present in /system/etc/init.d. If you want to delete it, you can do it using root explorer. Mount system as rw and delete it.

that is not possible.. coz ur whole /data gettin mounted to mmcblk0p2 partition, so ur internal memory becomes useless..
***but I think that will increase ur system space... (jst a thought, correct me if I m wrong) )

Hmm. So you are saying that the whole data partition including /data/data also goes to SD with this??

That s ok. You can use apptosd v2. But this method described here, I don t know. Since the entire data partition is moved, you would probably need atleast a class 4 SD card.
But if you want to delete the apptosd script, delete it from /data/etc/init.d using rootexplorer. But your datas will remain in the sd-ext partition only. So don t know how you are going to recover that.

Getting Error downloading certain apps from the market

I flashed the CM7 Epicmtd selfkang 12/13 build today and i am noticing that certain apps that i have purchased and free ones as well give me an error "insufficient space on the phone" i am attaching a screenshot of it. I checked the internal storage at its indicating i have 433mb of free space. Can you anyone help? I wiped data / cache and dalvik 3x prior of flashing this build. The ROM I was using before was cm7 Epic selfkang 11/24 build (BML).
Your phone has very limited space for app storage. You need to either delete unused apps or move whichever apps that will go to the sd card.

I had the same problem all u got to do is wipe ur cache & dalvik. I looked in the cm7 thread but it took awhile go thru and read all the posts but it was worth it.

No. I know what your problem is now. You have pieces of those apps still on your phone causing that error. It happened to me with the ebay app and youtube. You need to use root explorer to search your phone storage for any filename with the name of the app. For example youtube. You may find files like com.android.youtube. or simiiliar. You will need to delete those remnants and then you should be good.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Thanks for info, but still a no go. I deleted all the files associated with the app using root explorer till the built in search didn't turn up any results. I read a post from another user with this ROM having trouble installing apps larger than the size of the cache partition, so I'm guessing that could be it. Just unsure....
Sent from my Epic MTD CM7
Yeah bro... the cache partition is where Market tries to put the download and if you are on current CM7 MTD your cache is 25MB total. That's a no go for some apps on the market. You can see your cache size and free space by running df -h in term emulator.
You can:
1. Restore app with Ti if you had it installed before and backed up in Ti
2. Wait for next version of CM7 MTD and hope cache partition is bigger (would require a fresh CM7 install as it will redo partitions (eg fdisk'ing will wipe them clean))
3. Go back to non MTD ROM and get app installed and backed up with Ti so you can restore it once you go back onto CM7 MTD

Thanks for the confirmation, I will do the steps you provided for the apps I really can't live without haha. Hope the next build has more space than 25mb in the cache.
Sent from my Epic MTD CM7
I'm sure it'll be adjusted, seems like I've heard the 25MB Cache partition was more proof of concept. But I'm not one of the devs so take it with a grain of salt
I found another work around. If you could get a hold of the apk, then it'll install.
I used my wife's phone to download Frontline Commando, pulled it with Total Commander (or your favorite file explorer) and copied it over. It installed fine.
The file was 27.## MB.
Sneezy is right, that will work if you have a spare device.

(Q) System ROM 6MB Free Space Left

Is there any way to free more space in System ROM? Is it normal to have this much (6mb out of 340mb) free space left when running on Jelly Bean?
Running on Quarx's 09/12 nightly
Sent from my MB525 using xda premium
You can do this.
Back up your data and go to the recovery and do
1. clear user data
2. clear cache partition
3. clear dalvik cache
If you do this before and still have memory problem then try to move apps to SD card.
BTW how many apps you install in the phone?
I installed JB on virtual partition to get rid of this problem using multiboot. Now my system virtual partition is 600mb. No problem anymore

clear cache and delvik cache - also look for an app that has a large ammount of data and clear its data (doing this will wipe any settings the app has though)

use link2sd to order your apps by data size then you can see
you should have about 30mb free internel storage available at all times to be able to install new apps
right now I have 77 apps available to launch from my launcher and I have 48.8mb free but I could get that higher if I cleaned my cached images of twitter
Use "Quick reboot" in Link2sd
