(Q) System ROM 6MB Free Space Left - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there any way to free more space in System ROM? Is it normal to have this much (6mb out of 340mb) free space left when running on Jelly Bean?
Running on Quarx's 09/12 nightly

You can do this.
Back up your data and go to the recovery and do
1. clear user data
2. clear cache partition
3. clear dalvik cache
If you do this before and still have memory problem then try to move apps to SD card.
BTW how many apps you install in the phone?

I installed JB on virtual partition to get rid of this problem using multiboot. Now my system virtual partition is 600mb. No problem anymore

Internal memory shrinking...

Hi. Is it normal to have only around 20 mb of free internal storage with 16 apps (each is about 1 mb with cache included) installed (and about 100 on sd)? I've noticed that when I install and then uninstall an app there is less memory than before installing. Are there some temporary files which I must remove???
bump, this is important, please help...
USe ext partition.. means partition your sd and your file will go to sd partition. I have 200apps which is 500mb+, I have 91mb internal storage left.
(Partition work for rooted phone only)

Getting Error downloading certain apps from the market

I flashed the CM7 Epicmtd selfkang 12/13 build today and i am noticing that certain apps that i have purchased and free ones as well give me an error "insufficient space on the phone" i am attaching a screenshot of it. I checked the internal storage at its indicating i have 433mb of free space. Can you anyone help? I wiped data / cache and dalvik 3x prior of flashing this build. The ROM I was using before was cm7 Epic selfkang 11/24 build (BML).
Your phone has very limited space for app storage. You need to either delete unused apps or move whichever apps that will go to the sd card.

I had the same problem all u got to do is wipe ur cache & dalvik. I looked in the cm7 thread but it took awhile go thru and read all the posts but it was worth it.

No. I know what your problem is now. You have pieces of those apps still on your phone causing that error. It happened to me with the ebay app and youtube. You need to use root explorer to search your phone storage for any filename with the name of the app. For example youtube. You may find files like com.android.youtube. or simiiliar. You will need to delete those remnants and then you should be good.

Thanks for info, but still a no go. I deleted all the files associated with the app using root explorer till the built in search didn't turn up any results. I read a post from another user with this ROM having trouble installing apps larger than the size of the cache partition, so I'm guessing that could be it. Just unsure....

Yeah bro... the cache partition is where Market tries to put the download and if you are on current CM7 MTD your cache is 25MB total. That's a no go for some apps on the market. You can see your cache size and free space by running df -h in term emulator.
You can:
1. Restore app with Ti if you had it installed before and backed up in Ti
2. Wait for next version of CM7 MTD and hope cache partition is bigger (would require a fresh CM7 install as it will redo partitions (eg fdisk'ing will wipe them clean))
3. Go back to non MTD ROM and get app installed and backed up with Ti so you can restore it once you go back onto CM7 MTD

Thanks for the confirmation, I will do the steps you provided for the apps I really can't live without haha. Hope the next build has more space than 25mb in the cache.

I'm sure it'll be adjusted, seems like I've heard the 25MB Cache partition was more proof of concept. But I'm not one of the devs so take it with a grain of salt
I found another work around. If you could get a hold of the apk, then it'll install.
I used my wife's phone to download Frontline Commando, pulled it with Total Commander (or your favorite file explorer) and copied it over. It installed fine.
The file was 27.## MB.
Sneezy is right, that will work if you have a spare device.

Are you using dta2sd? And is your SD partitioned.
Ive tried a few roms right now im using mikg 3.11.. its actually kinda random like yesterday I couldn't download anything from google play but this morning it let me download. And im on a fresh install and have plenty of memory. I don't have a ext set up or any apsd set up either
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
OK I got it. You need to have an SD ext because the evo can't actually handle a rom that large without one. You need to have the rom apps moved to your SD card. This will give you an insane amount of free space. Your ext must be ext3 for best results. In recovery partition SD then upgrade ext2 to ext3. This will also format the SD so move your contents to a folder on PC. I believe Mik has dta2sd built in so it should move apps on install. This will fix your low memory issue 100%.
Ok will do.. but the Rom has like 300 mbs free. But still will do this and see if it fixes it
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
MikG has a2sd baked in, so you need to have the sdext.
Most roms have a2sd enabled by default. Also the phone uses the sdext for dalvik storage as well so you should always have one. Ext3 is highly recommended.
my recommendation would be to move your dalvik cache to sd partition and then see what you need to move app wise. i go by the rule if it doesnt need to be on your sd card then dont put it there. if you are still running out of room after dalvik is moved then damn you got some big apps (lol just messin) but just move a few there is no point in having all this free space on internal storage when its there to be used

Increase phone memow

How can increase phone memory I mean to say is there any chance to all big sysytem rom apps move to SD card pls advise asap

If you're talking about making the most of the phone's limited data space (ie. for apps, etc.), then the thing to do would be to use some form of a2sd.

System apps don't go to SD card. only installed apps can.
Currently my favorite script is CronMod Int2Ext+.
You can grab it here:
[SCRIPTS]CronMod-A2SD/D2EXT/INT2EXT (updated 08/24)
Note: the script needs ROM (custom) that support ext partition and has init.d tweak.

I use int2ext+ as recommended by the devs of this tweak
If you want use this script with oxygen ROM (GB/ICS), remove 10apps2sd file from init.d. If you don't, your phone will bootloops.
I not a delevppler I m just simple new Android user my friend
I can't understand this language scripts and very scare to read this but I like it
If u can give simple advice then its possible I understand only apps download using that it

First of all, we need to know what kind of ROM you're using -- stock, CyanogenMod, etc. -- before we can recommend an A2SD script. Some scripts are not compatible with certain ROMs. As for using the script, the respective dev threads usually have detailed instructions for installation and usage.
I started with Froyo stock (170 MB user available memory), then officialy updated to Gingerbread stock (155 MB) and currently I'm running a customized GB stock (180 MB) I removed all the system widgets and those system apps I don't use. I installed from the market some 20 apps that I use daily. I used Titanium Backup to convert those apps to system apps and to move system dalvik to ROM. And this way I have now a very light (180 MB available), battery friendly and fast ROM (launcher and certain apps overclocked with SetCPU up to 748).
Of course, there are also apps that I use rarely. Instead of moving each of these apps to sd-ext partition, I chose to integrate them into a second rom based on CM 7.2, which I installed on sd-ext with Multirom Manager. Consequently, I boot this second ROM from sd-ext only when necessary.

What's "opt" for disabling system apps? Personally, I deleted system apps I didn't use, of course only after copying their apks to the sd card with a rooted file explorer and making a nandroid backup of the entire ROM.
I installed ROM on and boot it from the sd-ext partition with Multirom Manager:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1828151.
When I used to move individual apps to sd-ext partition (not "directly" on sd card), I did it with Link2SD.
But in both cases (Multirom Manager and Link2SD), an sd-ext partition being required, I recommend Amon Ra recovery, which has a better sd-ext support, and not Clockworkmod recovery, which could not backup properly my sd-ext partition.

Use ungaze script, it adds ext4 partition to your internal memory
We use this kind off stuff on HTC Pico as memory is very low ie. 90 mb

[Q] This device is running low on free disk space - whats going on?

Hi,
I'm using SUNDAWG LEGENDARY TBD EDITION "STOCK" ROM.
From 2 days im getting notification "This device is running low on free disk space(...)" when opening some apps.
I don't know whats going on. Last time i had this i reinstall this ROM, because that was impossible to open any app, even dialer.
I have 102MB free on my memory.
12GB free on SD card.
1.2GB free on Internal Storage.
so...
whats going on?
How to fix this?
I need to have my phone usesfull, I'm far from home, i cant reinstall ROM now, and using phone as navigation Whithout the phone I will have a lots of problems to come back to home  (not funny!)
Whatvere, please help me =^-^=
Android has a restriction within it which limits further downloads and (any writes to memory) when the remaining space gets below 10% of that which is available.
I agree, this can be very frustrating. Especially for NativeSD users with a 32Gb card, a 10Gb Ext4 partition and a few NativeSD roms installed. When the ext4 partition gets 90% full, no roms can be used. Despite there being a whole 1Gb of space remaining.
There is a possible solution here which I haven't had a chance to try out yet, involving reducing the 10% restriction to 5 or 2% for example. But this would only be a temporary solution for your case, until you fill up the new available limit.
In your present situation (away from home), I would try to delete any unwanted apps.
A more permanent solution could be to do a nandroid backup, then trying to increase the ext4 partition via recovery.
Hope this helps, and I hope I haven't misunderstood your problem.
Hi, I have same problem with low disk space either I have lots of mb free ram. Now I use clean master and it really work. It is able to clean ram without reboot and low disk message is gone. Second thing is to move all apps into SD card.

It removes notification because when you use clean master it cleans your cache, which is also if i'm not wrong part of "data" partition. So, it frees you some amount of your data storage and msg is gone until you refill it with using apps.
