Think its dead. Not showing a signal when plugged into my TVs anymore, but blue lights still on. And nothing when plugged into my PC. Only had the thing for a few days and its had it!! Tried different cables, TVs, power supplies. Holding down the reset bottom when powering on but no joy. Any ideas guys?

Totally new here. got my nexus 7(2012) since nov 2012. This morning, I was chatting with friends and my device suddenly froze for 10 mins. i couldnt wait long so i restarted it by holding the power button. now it won't open even if i did the power + volume keys, nothing appears. even when i plug it in the wall charger or on my pc and laptop. still no charging logo or any indication it was on and my laptop says installing new device but always ends up failing so i cant back up my files from my device. I'm not a techy person so i made absolute no effort to root my device. just chatting and some occasional gaming. Please help can't afford to buy a new device for a long while
*btw its a 32gb nexus 7(2012). not sure if this additional info is helpful or not.
Do you get any sort of screen when you try to turn it on ? I.E. do you see the Google logo for a few seconds? Or do you see nothing?
My guess is with a hardware failure or your battery has come loose. When my battery becomes unplugged, I will see the Google logo and then a bunch of funky colors and it will reboot constantly when plugged in. It dies if unplugged, and It also turns on the second it is plugged in.
So if you suspect the battery, there are videos on YouTube to walk you through popping the back off along with pushing the battery back in. I used black electrical tape to hold my battery in place better once I confirmed that was what my problem was.

I would check to see if the battery connection came loose. Its an easy fix to try and was your tablet overly hot or any bulging?

i am so sorry for not replying. i know its too late now because i was asking this info on another thread. i i already tried removing and reinserting the battery on my device.
the nature of my device is that its all black screen. even when you charge it, theres no charging animation that shows or any backlight. its like its really off without anything plugged.
when i plugged it in the pc under device manager, it says apx mode. kinda depressed cuz i think the device is already dead cuz i cant even do the power button + vol down thingie :crying:.
Try pressing and holding in the power button for a long time, up to a minute.

My Nexus 7(2012) 16 gb appears dead. Was on CM11 with TWRP recovery.
Here's what happened :
I was using my N7, the screen froze for a second while scrolling on the browser.
After that a dead black line appeared permanently in the middle of the screen(horizontal).
I figured it might just be the case of dead pixels.
I continued using it like that only.
After a few weeks of usage, now the device won't power up at all.
When i connect to the wall charger, i just get a back light. No display. Nothing.
I tried booting into recovery, but nothing appears on the screen.
I kept it charging for few hours, but no luck.
It only flickers when connected to charger. Disconnecting the charger causes no activity what so ever on the device.
Nothing happens if i connect it to computer via usb.
Any solutions i can try?
Press & Hold the power button for at least 10 seconds while plugged into a power source. If no signs of life after completing the above step my first thought would be a faulty board..
Its just a black blank screen.

Well, I would hate to be the bearer of bad news but it appears your device had a critical failure and is now dead... Obvious answer right? HaHa
RIP Nexus :crying:
You can always try and leave it to charger for a day and see if you get some life to your nexus. I had similiar thing with my nexus, I was actually booting new ROM and then it did some flickering and got blacked out. After connecting to charger nothing happened, just random flickering. I was able to recover and get it back in bussiness when I woke up next morning (it had been charging over night). This was almost a year ago and atm I'm writing this with the same particular device. So give it a shot again, you might still get it back to work. Also you could try to boot the device to fastboot mode by pressing power+volume buttons at the same time for a while. Good luck, let me know if you were able to get it boot&work again!
You could also try popping the back off and make sure the ribbon cables for the display are seated properly. While your there check the battery cable.
Just want to say I have done a lot of reading and testing before posting here. Disconnecting/reconnecting the battery, all possible button combinations, charging the battery externally (for good measure, it wasn't dead, tested with a multimeter).
This is my daughters phone, it simply shut off and refuses to turn on. However plugging it in makes it blink red. When plugged into the computer into a usb2 port it blinks red 7 times. When plugged into the wall it will blink red 11 times. The only plausable explanation of this I have found is this post http://forums.androidcentral.com/go...ed-light-follows-motherboard.html#post3719526 and this image which is the supposed fix https://i.imgur.com/WewiGBe.png .
Any more ideas before I call this thing officially dead? Btw well past it's warranty, so I can be pretty invasive in fixing it since it's really just a brick right now.

If you have to junk it, Expansys has a deal where you can get a remanufactured N4 8G is 129.99/ 16G is 149.99 http://www.expansys-usa.com/google-...9aU-aXzeibXDvErq.KMVvZ4neA&ito=LKSTM20TXf59aU or you can get both a 16G AND a Gen 1 N7 for 179.99 http://www.expansys-usa.com/google-...rtphone-bundle-16gb-tablet-16gb-phone-269434/
I took the N4 offer the other week, and all is well.
You could try a new battery. It could be that the cable is damaged, or something in the circuitry is damaged.
Found someone with a broken screen, going to borrow it and try his battery.

did the battery swap work? My GF's n4 has the same issue.
Battery tests at 3.72 volts, no button combos work, if I hold power and plug in usb get a solid red followed by similar blinking pattern.
She will flip if it is dead (luckily pics are auto backed up of the baby)
If a battery swap works, I will be all over a new battery.
On YouTube there is a video of the guy who had the same issue... He came up with a good solution.. Search "nexus 4 red light of death"

I figured mine out last year. I don't have it anymore. But. I held power down for like 30 plus seconds. Then while the charger is in phone plug into wall. In that order. Fixed it. Seems the phone gets in a deep hibernated state.

thanks for the response, I have tried pulling the battery, button combos, holding the power button for up to 20 minutes, vol down plus power, vol up plus power, vol up and down plus power.
Swapping cables, usb ports, wall chargers everything that every site / forum has suggested.
The only thing I haven't done is swap the battery, and since I have the same led blink combo as OP, if a battery swapped fixed him, it is worth spending the money, otherwise I am wasting $30 bucks.
Other posts have suggested the blink combo (7 usb / 10 power) might be a pmic chip going bad so I don't want to waste money on a battery if it didn't work for OP.
A different battery changed nothing.

thanks for the update, yeah I bit the bullet and got my GF a moto G 2014. Not quite as nice as the nexus 4, but I got a good price on it.
2 days ago my N4 freezed, so I decided to reboot it. But after turning off it stoped showing any signs of work. No reaction on Turn on button and connecting it to the wall charger. If I connect the phone to the PC it appears in device manager as unknown qhusb_dload device. I found solution on YouTube, It says: hold Vol Down and Turn On buttons while phone connected to the wall charger and led should start blinking, but in my case It only blink once and nothing happens. Any help?

Doesn't look like a bricked device.
Change the charger and the cable as well and leave it charging for a while.
