[Q] Stylus cuts out - Thinkpad Tablet General

I have had my thinkpad tablet for a while now and I have found that the stylus will work for a short while if it hasn't been used in a while then it will jump into one of two modes the first being that it has no pressure sensitivity and the second is where it just doesn't work at all (usually it will eventualy settle on the not working at all phase). I am wondering if anyone else has run into this? Is it a problem with the tablet or the stylus? I have already passed my warranty period so unfortunately I can't get them to fix it. The new stylus is 40$ so it would be nice to see if someone else has run into this before spending the money.
Thanks!

Just thought I'd mention replacing the AAAA battery under the red cap before buying a new stylus. Also, some folks have found the tip of the stylus can become unseated and requires pressure to get it back in place.

help. My screen keeps misaligning very often.

My touch screen has been getting out of alignment quite often. 3 or 4 times a day. I'll go to use it after leaving it on standby, and the touch screen alignment will be off by a half centimeter or more. its making very difficult to use. Sometimes very difficult to even get to the settings screen to realign it. I'm using a screen protector and to use my fingers instead of the stylus often. could have of this be having an affect? or does anyone have any idea whats goign on? thank you for any help you can give me.
Dan
I had a similar problem as well. Its kinda scary. Do you think its a software error? or could it be hardware *gulp*
I had this problem with some devices I issued out at work. I put screen protectors on them, and all kind of weirdness happened, and the screen getting out of alignment was one of them. I removed the screen protectors, and the problem went away.
Wizard platform has often that claim from many users. I'm not sure if working without screen protector is suitable for you and don't know it will help. In my case it did not.
The problem of kJAMs is related to the screens HTC used on this version. Unfortunately there is not software remedy. Some users attempted to change their devices under guarantee. Some are telling newer ROMs make the error less frequently.
You may also use "fire button + messaging button" combination as a shortcut to screen alignment page if you must live with this. Better than nothing ?!
fixed my qtek 9100
Well my wizard used to go out of alignment a lot. But I basically ruined it when I stuck it in my golf bag one day and let it get partially crushed while half-open...
The screen started to flicker a lot (in addition to not registering touch inputs). after a week it was unusable except by me since I knew where to push to get it to work.
Anyways, I gave up and asked around Hong Kong for people who can fix these PDAs. I found a store that offered to bring it to a specialist (no name given) for $380 hkd (~$50USD). Figured I had nothing to lose.
It actually works almost like new now. The slider is tighter, and the screen doesn't go out of alignment at all. I'd almost say its perfect except the "specialist" "broke" my volume slider when fixing it. Its not major so I decided against taking it back to the store for further repairs (3 month warranty on their work). But it took 3-4 days for them to fix.
I figure someone with the screwdrivers and stuff can probably fix your problem. But I didn't have the guts to try it myself...
Four things you can do to help
1. After time dust etc... gets under the rim of the screen and adds to the misalignment problem. Get a piece of paper and put the corner under the rim and get all the dirt out.
2. Sometimes software causes the misalignment - in my case it was using vjtoggletoday - so check or your software particular ones that change your today screen e.g. wisbar etc...
3. You could do a hard reset and try device in factory state for a while to see if it is a software or hard ware problem
4. Update to the latest rom.
Thanks for your help guys. Even though i didn't like your answers. I tried cleaning dust from under the border of the screen. It worked well for now. but it hasn't been more than 12 hours. I hope it continues. If i cant get it to stop i might have to sell my phone on ebay. they seem to go for only 50 dollars less on ebay than i payed for it in the first place. I hate to ask this question. but what could i replace this phone wiht that wont have this problem. and has windows? Basically what would you suggest as a replacement. And not the TytTn because i dont think i'll be able to afford that one.
Thank you.
lets hope that i dont have to fish dust out of my phone every day.

Touchscreen dead (most of the time)

Hej,
the touchscreen of my O2 XDA Neo is dead... most of the time. After a long time (i.e. can't be told exactly) not using it, it works for a few strokes, so I can get the phone to run. Rapidly it changes then, first the right half of the screen ceases to work (nearly exactly the right half, fiddling with notes or align screen shows that), soon the whole screen doesn't react. Some time later it may work again.
Some of the software can be used by using only the navigation buttons, lot of the software (including dialing arbitrary numbers) can't.
Is there any way out? As the warranty is void, I don't hesitate to open the device, if it may help. But I guess it is not as simple as increasing or decreasing the pressure on the screens edges...
Or is there any input software that uses the navigation keys? The standard soft keyboard can't be used this way, the other additional keyboards I found surfing the net don't have this possibility too. (Is there a board here to ask for software for a specific OS? Or where is a good playce to do this?)
Thanks
Inmare
In short, sometimes it's working and sometimes it's not?
Maybe there is a loose connection somewhere? Although I'm afraid it won't be that easy, but who knows. Guess a touchscreen is quite a delicate piece of electronics.
I'm afraid I don't know any software for typing and stuff and using the keyboard with your keys etc.
It does for for some (short) time, then ceases to work - sometimes at once, sometimes slowly (first the right half, after some time the left).
I don't expect to be able to repair a defective touchscreen; I hope it's just a loose connector or such... this device uses star shaped screws smaller than grade 9, I have to get appropriate tools tomorrow (i.e. today as it is past 12pm... so yesterday is today too... so I already bought the tools yesterday? I need a digital diary again to keep track of this ). Lets see if I can get the device to be reliable again.
The digitizers are sold on eBay (example) for not much. Not sure how to install them tho.
Interesting. At least I now know the size of the screwdriver. And I see the connector... I think it is worth the try.
Here you can see the inside of the device. Looks like the digitizer and the display are packed together within a metal case, but maybe it is just the connector. Otherwise I will have to open this too.
I think I will do this in the far future. Next year
Thank you.
Hi Inmare,
is there any improvement
because I have the same problem with my jamin
what should I do?

carry casy rumors

im quite new to the wizard world (but LOVING my xda mini s!) ive been sifting though this great forum and others for weeks now looking for good advice and tips( this one the most helpfull btw) on some other forums ive read snippets that the case supplied with the mini can cause damage to the screen due to the magnet fastner on it. now be it my paranoid mind but, the last few times ive retrieved my beloved mini from its padded home im sure that the colour of the text at one point in the screen differs. can anyone confirm or disband this? be gratfull for your input before i go shelling out for a new case.
It did not happen on mine but following the laws of physics: there is a chance under certain circumstances. You can recreate the case by taking a large speaker and move it around your tv screen or pc monitor - how ever, the chance this happens might be 1:1000 and should have its reason in a too strong magnet on your pocket - After a few hours away from the pocket this colored part on the screen should disappear again ...
You can prevent it from happening by putting the device in the pocket with screen to your body / belt, so, that the magnet is on the back of the device and not on the screen.

4th digitizer gone bad

Has anyone else had this trouble? I am on my 4th Vogue (Sprint) and each one has had the digitizer go bad along the right-hand scroll bar. I have had this latest replacement for less than 6 months. I have used screen protectors all but this last time (wondered if they might be the problem -- apparently not). I keep the phone in my pocket typically, but I can't imagine I am subjecting these phones to extreme conditions or use!
Just curious if anyone else has had similar trouble...
I'm on Vogue #5(soon to be #6), never had the digitizer go bad on any(lot's of cracked housings and sticky buttons). Maybe you need to make the screen more sensitive and press lighter on the scrollbar or upgrade roms to one with flick scrolling.
I'm on my 2nd Vogue, and a friend of mine is on his 3rd. All from digitizers. Luckily they extend the warranty every time you get it replaced.
Mine work just fine. If the screen goes bad on the same section all the time, it could be that you are pressing too hard to scroll. As someone else suggested, you may want to reduce the screen pressure threshold. Also, not keeping it in your pocket will save it from unnecessary damage. You can get a case for the Vogue for like 5 buck in Big Lots or even a Dollar Store may carry some. Good luck!

over sensitive s pen

Just wondering if anyone else is have this problem. My s pen starts writing from about half an inch from the screen which make sit hard to to write a neat note. A while back i downloaded a smemo.apk for 240 dpi and that when it seem to start doing it I have tried a full flash of stock rom but still doing it.
It happened to me too, Samsung said that it's because some S-pens have trouble on its sensor. You can ask Samsung to change S-pen for you, change until the problem is gone xD. That's what i do with mine.
Ok i thought it might be somethimg like that I ordered one from ebay the other day. thanks
try disabling auto rotation..
and choose again which dominant hand in pen setting..
if you used magnet case it would affect the s pen sensor too..
Your pen is bad, a few of these threads have poped up. With a working pen you can take your fingernail and push in the tip and it will work like yours is, from far, yours is just stuck in.
You can try and take it apart (there is a post around here with instructions) and reset the tip in the rubber grommet it sits in if returning it is a issue.
Touch Screen Tune
I use Touch Screen Tune (for Galaxy note) to fine tune the pen.
And it became much better.

Click to collapse
The tip of your s-pen is pushed in and stuck, which makes the pen think you are pushing against the Note. Not sure how to get it unstuck, but that's definitely the issue. It's happened to a couple of people.

I also have the same problem..some guy posted a video on youtube as well..its a faulty spen...
Hi All.
Funny enough i have similar issue. My pen from time to time is oversensitive. I have been playing with it to check when and how does it happens. And i discovered that my spen has an allergy on me. I mean its me or my static charge is affecting it. Whenever i had such an issue i had to touch somethin metal or somebody to discharge myself. Or just put phone on the table. Whenever i broke circuit (i havent touch phone with both hands) or i disperse my charge spen started working again.
If you have such an issue try this out or even pass the phone to somebody else to check if the issue still stays with somebody else. I have been in touch with Samsung and they offered me a new spen so when it arrives i will check this out.
I got the same problem yesterday, i bring my note to SC and the customer service just laugh on me and told me may be my note is the new note 2 because it can hover
Anyway they replace it free of charge, thanks samsung
Oversensitive SPen means that a coil broke inside your pen, whice alterates the internal capacitance. Must be careful when carrying your pen, avoid drop it to the ground and so on...
