[Q] Configurator stopped - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The Message "Config stopped" keeps appearing on my Nexus 7 screen and it jumps into repeated rebooting.
Why is this so? can anyone out there help me? I'm new to this portal and a complete novice on the ins and outs of the nexus 7.

Are you using a custom ROM? If so, do a full factory reset and wipe the caches. Then install the latest version of the ROM (make sure it is not a known bug of the ROM too). Don't restore your apps via an app backup thing. If you must, do them one at a time so you can identify if one of the apps is causing the problem.
If you arent on a custom ROM, consider uninstalling all apps that are risky, then reinstall one at a time.
Next wipe the data of any system apps that could cause this problem.
If this doesn't work, do a factory reset. You may need to return to stock using adb to wipe the dalvik and cache (I don't know if factory reset doesn't this anyway).
I hope this helps

Thanks, I will try the latter, as I'm not rooted. Will keep you posted.

Tablet suddenly froze - Not able to Wipe data etc.

Hi Forum
I'm experiencing an odd thing with the P7510. I've been using AOKP for weeks now and all the sudden the thing froze up on me. This time I'm not able to reboot and go any further than the booting screen after the Galaxy Tab logo.
I thought a Wipe data / factory reset would help but It freezes as soon as I select the Wipe data function.
Nor am I able to wipe Dalvik Cache nor fix permissions (heck you try everything at this point). - All instant freeze except for Wipe Cashe Partition and using the install zip from sdcard, back etc.
Unfortunately I do not have the AOKP zip on the tablet anymore but if I'm remembering correct you need to wipe data when installing AOKP which I won't be able to do no mater what.
Do you guys have any idea what I could do to save the unit?
Fixed I was able to bring it back using the unroot guide. Unfortunately everything I got on there is gone - Either way thank you for looking!
That's really weird.

The interesting thing is a number of cases seems to happen in mid June this year.
Is this problem date related?
I'm using roman rom by the way.

process com.google.process.gapps has stopped working error

I've searched for a fix for this error but all it brings up are like 100 page threads and I can't get to the exact page. Does anybody know how I can stop getting this to pop up? I've tried switching roms but the next one does it as well. Any tips?
Nobody knows a fix for this one?
For me, turning off Sync Browser in sync settings for my Google account fixed this problem. I am using a HP Touch pad though, but should be the same on any android device.

Same thing is happening on my touchpad when I click sync browser that comes up. Turning it off is fine with me thanks for the tip.
This happened to me occasionally when I was running a custom rom but since I updated to the next version of the rom and flashed gapps, it hasn't come back. There did not appear to be a reason or rhyme. I tried to reinstall chrome and gmail but not sure of the results. May want to try that.

process com.google.process.gapps has stopped working
I have the same problem. The only difference that I know exactly when happened and what is the reason.
I upgraded to JellyBean, but just before that I force stopped some running apps thinking of a "clear" upgrade (WRONG).
Then after the upgrade (I was rooted before it) I opened Titanium Backup and noticed that some applications were showing as uninstalled ???
I did not uninstall them - but somehow they ended up uninstalled after the upgrade.
I suppose this happened because I stopped those few processes just before upgrading.
Now the applications showed as uninstalled are: "DRM Storage Protected..." Media Storage" , "Gallery" and some more
All those missing now ... I cannot start Google Store at all !? It opens for a second and closes itself. Tried to restore those with Titanium Backup but it does not restore them ... just runs endlessly.
PLEASE HELP !
I would try to flash the factory rom, unless you are using custom, flash the custom with gapps.

Here's the most simple fix. Remove your Google account and add it again.

It's been driving me nuts.
As soon as my Nexus 7 boots I get the message.
I removed my Google account and re-entered my details.
The message popped up again as soon as the account was added.
I'm on the stock 4.2.1 rooted ROM.
Factory reset next without restoring a backup.
Speaking of backup. When I used the ADB restore command.
I had the message that my device will restart. It did. I then had the Restore screen on my Nexus 7.
I hit Restore my data button or whatever it's called, and my tablet reset immediately. And no data was restored to my Nexus.
It's seems that is broken too.
I cleared Data and Cache of Browser (my stock Browser) and error disappeared, problem fixed...
I'm having this issue as well. Started happening after I flashed Paranoid Android 2.99 Beta 6 and the current gApps zip.

Did you tried this? (Comment before yours)
Finally cured it on my stock rooted Nexus 7.
Factory wipe and didn't restore any system apps.
So far so good.
I tried every other trick in the book.
So in the end, a wipe was the only option.

I just solved this on my Nexus. It was one of the google apps having a sync issue. I solved it by turning each one off till the error stopped then uninstalling it and reloading it.
TWRP 2.3.3 installed via Goomanager.
With rooted stock ROM 4.2.1 I used GooManager to download latest Paranoid Android 2.99 Beta 9 and GAPPS-JB-20121011.zip.
Factory reset and wipe of Cache & Dalvik then flashed PA from Goomanager
Nexus booted into PA
Opened Goo manager and flashed the GAPPS I'd already downloaded.
Nexus boots into unlock screen but then says "Unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped" and when that is cleared I get "Unfortunately, Setup Wizard has stopped" over and over again.
I don't get an opportunity to do anything other that re-boot into recovery.
I've re-flashed GAPPS by itself over the top, as well as PA and have tried, from within TWRP, to flash both one after the other. I always get the same errors.
Any advice please?
[Edit #1]
Used Wug's NRT 1.6.1 to flash back to stock, unlock and rooted again.
Installed Goo Manager again and downloaded GAPPS and PA 2.99 and going to see what happens.
and.....
Exactly the same problem!
[Edit #2]
Solved.
There was a later version of GAPPS that Goo didn't have listed.

[SOLVED] Google Voice force closing

Hello guys, I use google Voice for my Voicemails. Ever since I got my Nexus 4 back in early December I couldn't get it to work. Even on stock without rooting.
I have tried many roms, and factory resets and as soon as I open the app it force closes.
Currently on Xylon ROM 16 and Franco Kernel 33
Gapps 20121212
Any help would be appreciated.
You've tried all the usual fixes right? Wipe app data, fix permissions, uninstall/reinstall the app? Also are you restoring the app & data with Titanium Backup (or something similar)? If you are, uninstall the app and go to the play store and install it from there. Are you restoring any system data with Titanium Backup (or something similar)? Not a good idea to restore system data especially if your changing roms.
In the same boat as OP. Haven't tried any custom ROMs yet. That was gonna be my next move, but it appears to be futile.
I've tried everything. Un install, install... Wiping data and such. And no I am not using Titanium Backup to restore.

Okay so, I hope this is temporary but I installed the apk with the version 0.4.2.54 and it's working with this one. I tried updating it via the play store and encountered the problem again.
I hope the next update will fix it.

Android is updating evry time i boot.

Hello folks,
Know someone something to solve's this problem? When i get the message he is actually starting up the applications. I think that updating tool is stuck on that state or can not optimize an application. I have readed the whole logcat but don't understand it. so i include it anyway maby some of you understand it better. The problem started after the first CM10.1 update after that it keeps giving that message.
I tryed:
- Formating cache and dalvik-cache
- removed the odex files from wordfeud (wordfeud won't start after that first update)
things i probably better don't had done:
- Try to recover manually my games
- pluged in a samsung usb cable (devices crashed! on that moment (but that was on stock))
Specs:
Nexus 7 wifi (32gib)
android 4.2.1 CM10.1-2013112-NIGTLY-GROUPER
Formatting the dalvik cache will cause the 'Android is updating' result. You might want to flash the custom rom again and let your apps restore from Play Store. You can restore game data, usually, after installing the app, but don't restore the game.
If it simply says "starting apps", I would not worry about it.

[Q] Notification Pull Down not working after 4.3 OTA

A friend of mine just updated her Nexus 4 to 4.3 via OTA. Since the update several background apps kept crashing repeatedly, but she uninstalled them before I could get her to check what the exception message was. After removing the apps everything seems to be working except the Notification Pull Down. Notification Icons correctly display in the Status Bar, but you can't actually open the Notifications. Try as you might it just refuses to open. The phone has been rebooted several times to no avail.
I've searched several threads but haven't found anything even remotely similar to this. Anyone have any ideas?
I'm not sure what App affects notifications to even try clearing data on. I've thought about removing her google account cpmpletely and readding it, but I'm helping her over text, so trying to keep the complicated solutions for when we've tried everything else.
Any suggestions or ideas would be very greatly appreciated!
Has she wiped dalvik cache? I think that not wiping dalvik can cause apps to crash.
Try to reflash the ROM and wipe cache & dalvik, and do a factory reset and optionally wipe /system partition.

The phone is completely stock, non-rooted, locked bootloader, running stock 4.3 OTA.
I'm trying to find GUI solution that doesn't involve installing a custom recovery. Thanks for the idea though.
Doing a factory reset seems like the only logical thing to try, in case you don't want to unlock your bootloader and install a custom recovery. Beware, you will lose your apps and their data.
You can try to reflash the ROM again, but I don't know what's the procedure with the stock software. If you can just apply update from .zip, than you should be able to do that from the stock recovery. I never had any OTA update so I can't help you further unfortunately.
