I've searched for a fix for this error but all it brings up are like 100 page threads and I can't get to the exact page. Does anybody know how I can stop getting this to pop up? I've tried switching roms but the next one does it as well. Any tips?
Nobody knows a fix for this one?
For me, turning off Sync Browser in sync settings for my Google account fixed this problem. I am using a HP Touch pad though, but should be the same on any android device.

Same thing is happening on my touchpad when I click sync browser that comes up. Turning it off is fine with me thanks for the tip.
This happened to me occasionally when I was running a custom rom but since I updated to the next version of the rom and flashed gapps, it hasn't come back. There did not appear to be a reason or rhyme. I tried to reinstall chrome and gmail but not sure of the results. May want to try that.

process com.google.process.gapps has stopped working
I have the same problem. The only difference that I know exactly when happened and what is the reason.
I upgraded to JellyBean, but just before that I force stopped some running apps thinking of a "clear" upgrade (WRONG).
Then after the upgrade (I was rooted before it) I opened Titanium Backup and noticed that some applications were showing as uninstalled ???
I did not uninstall them - but somehow they ended up uninstalled after the upgrade.
I suppose this happened because I stopped those few processes just before upgrading.
Now the applications showed as uninstalled are: "DRM Storage Protected..." Media Storage" , "Gallery" and some more
All those missing now ... I cannot start Google Store at all !? It opens for a second and closes itself. Tried to restore those with Titanium Backup but it does not restore them ... just runs endlessly.
PLEASE HELP !
I would try to flash the factory rom, unless you are using custom, flash the custom with gapps.

Here's the most simple fix. Remove your Google account and add it again.

It's been driving me nuts.
As soon as my Nexus 7 boots I get the message.
I removed my Google account and re-entered my details.
The message popped up again as soon as the account was added.
I'm on the stock 4.2.1 rooted ROM.
Factory reset next without restoring a backup.
Speaking of backup. When I used the ADB restore command.
I had the message that my device will restart. It did. I then had the Restore screen on my Nexus 7.
I hit Restore my data button or whatever it's called, and my tablet reset immediately. And no data was restored to my Nexus.
It's seems that is broken too.
I cleared Data and Cache of Browser (my stock Browser) and error disappeared, problem fixed...
I'm having this issue as well. Started happening after I flashed Paranoid Android 2.99 Beta 6 and the current gApps zip.

Did you tried this? (Comment before yours)
Finally cured it on my stock rooted Nexus 7.
Factory wipe and didn't restore any system apps.
So far so good.
I tried every other trick in the book.
So in the end, a wipe was the only option.

I just solved this on my Nexus. It was one of the google apps having a sync issue. I solved it by turning each one off till the error stopped then uninstalling it and reloading it.
TWRP 2.3.3 installed via Goomanager.
With rooted stock ROM 4.2.1 I used GooManager to download latest Paranoid Android 2.99 Beta 9 and GAPPS-JB-20121011.zip.
Factory reset and wipe of Cache & Dalvik then flashed PA from Goomanager
Nexus booted into PA
Opened Goo manager and flashed the GAPPS I'd already downloaded.
Nexus boots into unlock screen but then says "Unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped" and when that is cleared I get "Unfortunately, Setup Wizard has stopped" over and over again.
I don't get an opportunity to do anything other that re-boot into recovery.
I've re-flashed GAPPS by itself over the top, as well as PA and have tried, from within TWRP, to flash both one after the other. I always get the same errors.
Any advice please?
[Edit #1]
Used Wug's NRT 1.6.1 to flash back to stock, unlock and rooted again.
Installed Goo Manager again and downloaded GAPPS and PA 2.99 and going to see what happens.
and.....
Exactly the same problem!
[Edit #2]
Solved.
There was a later version of GAPPS that Goo didn't have listed.

First I have to say I like the "similar threads" function, even though it did not help me this time.
Here is my issue:
My nook had CM7 with nightly 118. I had not used it in a while, so I tried to install 7.1 (which failed prob with a bad md5). I also downloaded nightly 153 which also failed...
I booted BACK and downloaded both again, but 7.1 still failed. nightly 153 went through though, but when I rebooted i got a black screen instead of the CM7 spinning logo.
I went back into recovery and installed my old nightly 118 and was able to get back to normal...or so I thought.
I tried to open G+ and it failed to connect, tried to open Market and it told me I needed a google account. I clicked on the yes button to add one and it took me nowhere. I looked under accounts and both my google account were missing. I tried to add them back, but I only had Corporate, Yahoo, and Facebook in the list.
Anyone have any idea what I can do to fix this? I assume I will just have to wipe it all and start from scratch, but I would prefer not to have to do that...
Thanks for any suggestions.

Are you running CM7 off the eMMC or a SD card?
Did you install the gapps?

This used to happen to me a lot, and the only reliable fix that I've found is to reflash gapps.
I don't know why it started, and I don't know why it doesn't happen to me anymore. Sometimes it happened when I reflashed CM7, sometimes it happened in the middle of routine use. It doesn't appear to happen to most people at all, but that might just be under-reporting because the symptoms seem totally random until you realize that anything needing access to your Google account fails.
Reflash just gapps. You'll have to sign in, and probably add your second Google account manually, but your data will be intact.
CM7 off the emmc, gapps already flashed, and I will try that! thanks for the replies!

I had the same problem after ungrading to 177. Resintalling Gapps with only deleting cache did not work I had to reinstall Gapps deleting Data and Cache.
I don't understand what happened, but it all works fine now, so far.
Ouch, I've never had to wipe data to fix this, just reflash gapps.

You could try wiping the caches on the device in CWM.

OK, Ill try that.
My apps and data wont get deleted, right?
No, they'll all be in tact, just make sure you wipe the Cache from the main menu and the dalvik cache from the advanced menu.

Did not work.
Wiped the cache from main and then did dalvik cache and Im still getting the popups and can not remove the google account.
Any ideas?
Are you rooted and did you freeze any system apps? I froze Google account manager once and had that problem. Had to restore a backup to fix it. Unfreezing didn't help.

Am rooted but did not freeze any app.
Best option then is to reflash your stock rom in Odin and re-root. Shouldn't lose any apps or data that way.

OK, what I did was flash in the JB CM10.
When I restored the apps and data with titanium, the problem with all the popups happened again!
So I flashed JB CM10 again and this time restored with titanium all the apps except for google apps and data.
This solved it.
Now everything is back to normal.
Now a different question, about the CM10 version I installed.
For some reason I don't have the back camera working.
I flashed the latest version that can be found on http://droidbasement.com/db-blog/?p=2749.
For some reason the site's August 4th update has a link to http://droidbasement.com/galaxy/roms/cm10/p4wifi which is actually a July 28th update.
Isnt that the latest update? If not, where can I find the latest update with the back cam working?
EDIT: Just read on another thread that the 8.4.12 update got nixed cause of wifi problems. That explains my back cam problem.
Thinking about going back to stock 4.0.4. Kind of liked the new Touchwiz. Mountains better than the older version.

Well if you don't like touch wiz, you can replace it with Apex launcher, which will give you a stock ICS launcher with added options.

Hi,
First time posting here. I've been searching around but I can't seem to find anyone with this issue. Which means I'm likely making a rookie mistake.
I've been running CM7 for a while now w/o issue. Decided to look into the state of ICS and found out JB is where it's at. So I decided to give it a whirl based on some successful posts about it, even at an early stage. I used a 8GB SD and on my latest attempt, I loaded cm-10-20121204-NIGHTLY-encore and gapps-jb-20121011-signed onto EMMC. Afterwards, it booted up fine, got connected to the wifi and looked great. Somewhere along the way, something happens that causes Android to popup a dialog saying it's updating. After that's done, soon after I get a popup that "Unfortunately, Gmail has stopped working." When I open a browser, it immediately closes. If I try the Play store, it pops up, "Network error - retry". So it's like a part of the android comm "stack" gets busted on that update. Weird thing is that if I run the Google search app, it returns results from the web, so some connectivity is still there. But when I click a link, the browser pops up for an instant then closes again. I tried clearing caches, doing resets, reflashing gapps, etc. Nothing seems to work. Is there a log I can activate to maybe get more details?
I've probably tried out 5 installs now, using various recently nightly's up until 1204 w/similar results. I just can't figure out what triggers the update. I even tried w/o installing gapps. In that case, I sent myself a link to the Amazon android app, using the email setup. It installed and I could get apps downloaded and running w/o issue. But eventually after a reboot, android updated and I was right back at the gmail failed mesg, even though I hadn't installed gapps. On another try, I had installed and when I reformatted the SD card, it updated after the reboot and same result.
So, I guess I just don't have a clue at this point as to why this update runs, nor do I know what it changes to break the device. After going rounds w/it for about a week or so, I gave up and reloaded my old 7 image. I'm willing to try again if anyone has a clue what I can do.
Thanks

Did you do a factory reset with recovery before you booted into CM10? It sounds like you have some old apps like Gmail staying on there. Coming from CM7 you really need to wipe first.

Hi there!
I'm having big issus the last three days with downloads from the Google Play Store on my i9505.
I was using Jamals Google Edition ROM v3, everything was fine. Then, just like before I did a wipe data/factory reset using PhilZ advanced CWM and installed v5. This was the first time I faced problems in the Google Play Store.
Apps just downloaded some kilobytes and then froze but some apps downloaded properly. Some other downloaded, froze, downloaded again and showed an error message when finished.
With a little bit of patience and some tries I could download all the apps that I needed (cancel and start the download again).
Today I updated to v6 of Jamals Google Edition ROM and the problems were still the same. I tried to clear the data and cache from Google Play Store app and restart the device but nothing fixed the problem.
So I thought maybe a complete reset the Samsungs original software could do the job. So I flashed through Odin an original ROM I have on my computer (I9505XXUBMF8_I9505OXABMF8_I9505XXUBMF8_HOME.tar).
Now problems got even bigger... I'm not able to download ANY update/app from the store. It always sais "Starting download..." and nothing happens. I also tried to clear the data/cache from Play Store app, too. Now I have no idea how to go on with this problem because I couldn't find this case on the web/other possibilities to fix the problem.
Any idea?
This happens on my I9500 also, which solved it by wiping the whole thing and started over..

Thanks for your quick respond. But what do you concretely understand by wiping "the whole thing"? I thought reinstalling a stock ROM from Samsung is most you can do to come as close as possible to a delivery status.
*edit: Now after the fresh installation of the latest stock ROM from Samsung I also did a hard reset. Downloads do start again but none of them is getting finished. Mostly they freeze at 80% progress or so.

I usually get this problem when I have too many apps in queue for download. I usually cancel most of them and let it update 2-3 at a time and eventually end up getting all of them installed. This message as the only way I could get them all done.

Hey friends,
I flashed to CM7.2 today from CM7.1 on my Motorola Defy and everything went fine. I used the stable release, and the latest relevant gapp-ics file.
After reboot was over, I tried to access Google Play, it asked me for my user and started loading. After a few seconds it crashed and ever since I'm getting a server error message and right afterwards it crashes saying "process com.android.vending has stopped unexpectedly".
Means I cannot connect with my google account and can't install any apps at the moment.
I tried reinstalling the mod again; reinstalling the gapp file; using an older gapp-ics file; clearing cache and date; rebooting; clearing malvik cache and what not!
Now I noticed that google search is crashing as well.
Any ideas anyone?
* I searched for a similar thread for quite a while, all ideas were unsuccessful.
Many thanks!

A very simple solution - flash GB gapps. You flashed ICS (CM9) gapps. Gingerbread is CM7.2/7.1.

There are some possible ways:
(1) Remove data of Google Play&Google Services Framework and after this, you may get stuck in launching Google Play(Server Error) and reboot and retry
(2) Launch GTalk first and launch Google Play
(3) If they don't work, reboot recovery and wipe DATA
