[SOLVED] Google Voice force closing - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys, I use google Voice for my Voicemails. Ever since I got my Nexus 4 back in early December I couldn't get it to work. Even on stock without rooting.
I have tried many roms, and factory resets and as soon as I open the app it force closes.
Currently on Xylon ROM 16 and Franco Kernel 33
Gapps 20121212
Any help would be appreciated.

You've tried all the usual fixes right? Wipe app data, fix permissions, uninstall/reinstall the app? Also are you restoring the app & data with Titanium Backup (or something similar)? If you are, uninstall the app and go to the play store and install it from there. Are you restoring any system data with Titanium Backup (or something similar)? Not a good idea to restore system data especially if your changing roms.

In the same boat as OP. Haven't tried any custom ROMs yet. That was gonna be my next move, but it appears to be futile.

I've tried everything. Un install, install... Wiping data and such. And no I am not using Titanium Backup to restore.

Okay so, I hope this is temporary but I installed the apk with the version 0.4.2.54 and it's working with this one. I tried updating it via the play store and encountered the problem again.
I hope the next update will fix it.

You could try wiping the caches on the device in CWM.

OK, Ill try that.
My apps and data wont get deleted, right?
No, they'll all be in tact, just make sure you wipe the Cache from the main menu and the dalvik cache from the advanced menu.

Did not work.
Wiped the cache from main and then did dalvik cache and Im still getting the popups and can not remove the google account.
Any ideas?
Are you rooted and did you freeze any system apps? I froze Google account manager once and had that problem. Had to restore a backup to fix it. Unfreezing didn't help.

Am rooted but did not freeze any app.
Best option then is to reflash your stock rom in Odin and re-root. Shouldn't lose any apps or data that way.

OK, what I did was flash in the JB CM10.
When I restored the apps and data with titanium, the problem with all the popups happened again!
So I flashed JB CM10 again and this time restored with titanium all the apps except for google apps and data.
This solved it.
Now everything is back to normal.
Now a different question, about the CM10 version I installed.
For some reason I don't have the back camera working.
I flashed the latest version that can be found on http://droidbasement.com/db-blog/?p=2749.
For some reason the site's August 4th update has a link to http://droidbasement.com/galaxy/roms/cm10/p4wifi which is actually a July 28th update.
Isnt that the latest update? If not, where can I find the latest update with the back cam working?
EDIT: Just read on another thread that the 8.4.12 update got nixed cause of wifi problems. That explains my back cam problem.
Thinking about going back to stock 4.0.4. Kind of liked the new Touchwiz. Mountains better than the older version.

Well if you don't like touch wiz, you can replace it with Apex launcher, which will give you a stock ICS launcher with added options.

Have anyone try the CM7 120901 by tezet? I have encountered a problem in sending sms.

Yesterday, I have installed the new CM7 120901 by tezet. Almost everything is working perfectly. But when I try to send sms, it shows failure immediately, and the error code in sms detail information is 254. But it can receive sms normally.
I tried to change the SMS center in the menu after *#*#4636#*#*, but it doesn't work.
Is there anyone trying this rom? Do you have the same problem?
If you have the same problem, could you help to post this issue to the develop forum? I have the permission to post reply to the tezet's thread.
I don't have this problem....

It's a problem specific to Titanium backup on quite some roms for some time now (at least the CM9/10 in here) since it doesn't happens when you do the same with My Backup Root (another backup ap, free one, that works a bit differently than TB).
Try the rom without restoring apps with TB and reinstall them from market, only reinstall the app's data you REALLY need (like highscores, saved games, sms/call log and so on) and reinstall the apps manually (making an AppBrain list for that helps).
Restoring SMS and call logs via Titanium backup made my phone and sms apps crash, since then i'm using SMS Backup + (it's in the market) which backs them up on my gmail.
Restoring data for system applications usually makes them FC!
I've reflash and make full wipe, it's ok now. using go backup and all app don't have any FC

It seems to be solved by another wiping data and wiping cache.
It's strange that I have done the both wiping after installing the CM7 120901. Maybe the cause is that my phone is in fly mode when I installed the rom.
Thanks for your kindly reply.

No it's something that has to do with the flashing process, sometimes it seems unable to wipe properly the /system partition and some strange things happens.
It regularily happens to some people to have to make the whole process twice for it to work properly.
Now the technical explanation is surely out there, but it's out of my reach for now (and i'm not interested enough to search for it, since there is a workaround for it ).

process com.google.process.gapps has stopped working error

I've searched for a fix for this error but all it brings up are like 100 page threads and I can't get to the exact page. Does anybody know how I can stop getting this to pop up? I've tried switching roms but the next one does it as well. Any tips?
Nobody knows a fix for this one?
For me, turning off Sync Browser in sync settings for my Google account fixed this problem. I am using a HP Touch pad though, but should be the same on any android device.

Same thing is happening on my touchpad when I click sync browser that comes up. Turning it off is fine with me thanks for the tip.
This happened to me occasionally when I was running a custom rom but since I updated to the next version of the rom and flashed gapps, it hasn't come back. There did not appear to be a reason or rhyme. I tried to reinstall chrome and gmail but not sure of the results. May want to try that.

process com.google.process.gapps has stopped working
I have the same problem. The only difference that I know exactly when happened and what is the reason.
I upgraded to JellyBean, but just before that I force stopped some running apps thinking of a "clear" upgrade (WRONG).
Then after the upgrade (I was rooted before it) I opened Titanium Backup and noticed that some applications were showing as uninstalled ???
I did not uninstall them - but somehow they ended up uninstalled after the upgrade.
I suppose this happened because I stopped those few processes just before upgrading.
Now the applications showed as uninstalled are: "DRM Storage Protected..." Media Storage" , "Gallery" and some more
All those missing now ... I cannot start Google Store at all !? It opens for a second and closes itself. Tried to restore those with Titanium Backup but it does not restore them ... just runs endlessly.
PLEASE HELP !
I would try to flash the factory rom, unless you are using custom, flash the custom with gapps.

Here's the most simple fix. Remove your Google account and add it again.

It's been driving me nuts.
As soon as my Nexus 7 boots I get the message.
I removed my Google account and re-entered my details.
The message popped up again as soon as the account was added.
I'm on the stock 4.2.1 rooted ROM.
Factory reset next without restoring a backup.
Speaking of backup. When I used the ADB restore command.
I had the message that my device will restart. It did. I then had the Restore screen on my Nexus 7.
I hit Restore my data button or whatever it's called, and my tablet reset immediately. And no data was restored to my Nexus.
It's seems that is broken too.
I cleared Data and Cache of Browser (my stock Browser) and error disappeared, problem fixed...
I'm having this issue as well. Started happening after I flashed Paranoid Android 2.99 Beta 6 and the current gApps zip.

Did you tried this? (Comment before yours)
Finally cured it on my stock rooted Nexus 7.
Factory wipe and didn't restore any system apps.
So far so good.
I tried every other trick in the book.
So in the end, a wipe was the only option.

I just solved this on my Nexus. It was one of the google apps having a sync issue. I solved it by turning each one off till the error stopped then uninstalling it and reloading it.
TWRP 2.3.3 installed via Goomanager.
With rooted stock ROM 4.2.1 I used GooManager to download latest Paranoid Android 2.99 Beta 9 and GAPPS-JB-20121011.zip.
Factory reset and wipe of Cache & Dalvik then flashed PA from Goomanager
Nexus booted into PA
Opened Goo manager and flashed the GAPPS I'd already downloaded.
Nexus boots into unlock screen but then says "Unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped" and when that is cleared I get "Unfortunately, Setup Wizard has stopped" over and over again.
I don't get an opportunity to do anything other that re-boot into recovery.
I've re-flashed GAPPS by itself over the top, as well as PA and have tried, from within TWRP, to flash both one after the other. I always get the same errors.
Any advice please?
[Edit #1]
Used Wug's NRT 1.6.1 to flash back to stock, unlock and rooted again.
Installed Goo Manager again and downloaded GAPPS and PA 2.99 and going to see what happens.
and.....
Exactly the same problem!
[Edit #2]
Solved.
There was a later version of GAPPS that Goo didn't have listed.

[Q] [H]I can't install any app! Store's nor .apk's

I have flashed back a stock 4.2.2 image and re-locked bootloader. Now I can't install apps from Google Store, a message pop-ups saying ''Invalid package''. I reflashed the stock image, tried rooting, fixed permissions, flashed custom ROM, deleted all listed apps from store, tried installing without WiFi connection and over 3G/H+.
I can only install apps from the Google Play Store Web Version sending them to the phone.
Has anyone know about this issue before? Please Help!!
Have you tried formatting data? Backup anything you need on your sd first. Also note you will have to reboot to recovery after formatting and adb push a new ROM over.
I had a weird problem last week and wiping data wouldn't fix it, I had to format.
My problem was almost the opposite of yours, uninstalling any app by any method rebooted my phone.

Nevermind I'm dumb
The problem seems to be solved by changing my device model on the play store from desktop version. The weird thing is that I couldn't install apps even deleting my google account from the phone.

If one more app is installed, System UI stops

Hi,
I had been using Temasek's Unofficial CM 11 ROM on my SM-N9005, then I decided to update to lollipop. So I backed up with Titanium Backup Pro, wiped data and dalvik and cache, flashed the AICP ROM, and now I'm trying to restore apps.
Restoring has been difficult in TB - it kept freezing/getting stuck on what seemed like random apps, and then it started to give me "Unfortunately, System UI has stopped" messages, which reappear a few seconds after they're dismissed.
I've somehow reached the point where if I install ONE more app (no matter what it is or whether it's restored from TB or downloaded from Play Store), I get "Unfortunately, System UI has stopped", but if I uninstall it I'm fine.
I know that apps should use more space with the ART runtime, but I have ~7GB of free storage so it can't be that. It seems silly, but is there some kind of app limit in lollipop that I'm unaware of?
Thanks in advance!
Actually the most important thing is what method are you using for restore? I mean are you using the only restore missing apps method or something else? Cause if you are using a method other than that then you will have problems.

Did you take a nandroid backup? If so, Restore it after wiping then use TB to make an Apps Update.zip and copy it across to your ExtSDCard. THEN flash the ROM and GApps - i also flash SuperSU.zip at the same time. Then I start the phone and set up basic info. Then Back to Recovery and run the Apps.zip file.
I also use Nova Launcher so once in I restore the backup and Voila! I have almost everything back as I like it.
Another thing to check is the SDCardfix - you might want to download a zip of it and flash it while in Recovery. Once it is done and you are in LP version it seems OK, but I had to restore and older version of Temasek's ROM and promptly had SDCard access issues until I ran the fix again.
Thanks for your replies!
I am definitely doing "restore missing apps with data", though I am deselecting some of the apps (the very large ones) before restoring if that's an issue.
I didn't take a Nandroid backup unfortunately, I usually don't as I have no need for the data other than apps. Using an "apps.zip" sounds like an interesting approach - I might try that next time.
I'll try to work with the SD card - should I try to find and flash an LP version of SDCardFix or just use the KK one?
I tried reflashing the rom after a data, dalvik, cache, and /system wipe. Then I restored all apps, but the same problem came back, so the problem seems to be replicable.
Some people in the forums have suggested doing a "Fix permissions" in CWM, however that feature was obviously removed. There's a flashable zip that restores the feature apparently. Do you think I should try that or will it have no effect?
Thank you!
