A friend of mine just updated her Nexus 4 to 4.3 via OTA. Since the update several background apps kept crashing repeatedly, but she uninstalled them before I could get her to check what the exception message was. After removing the apps everything seems to be working except the Notification Pull Down. Notification Icons correctly display in the Status Bar, but you can't actually open the Notifications. Try as you might it just refuses to open. The phone has been rebooted several times to no avail.
I've searched several threads but haven't found anything even remotely similar to this. Anyone have any ideas?
I'm not sure what App affects notifications to even try clearing data on. I've thought about removing her google account cpmpletely and readding it, but I'm helping her over text, so trying to keep the complicated solutions for when we've tried everything else.
Any suggestions or ideas would be very greatly appreciated!
Has she wiped dalvik cache? I think that not wiping dalvik can cause apps to crash.
Try to reflash the ROM and wipe cache & dalvik, and do a factory reset and optionally wipe /system partition.

The phone is completely stock, non-rooted, locked bootloader, running stock 4.3 OTA.
I'm trying to find GUI solution that doesn't involve installing a custom recovery. Thanks for the idea though.
Doing a factory reset seems like the only logical thing to try, in case you don't want to unlock your bootloader and install a custom recovery. Beware, you will lose your apps and their data.
You can try to reflash the ROM again, but I don't know what's the procedure with the stock software. If you can just apply update from .zip, than you should be able to do that from the stock recovery. I never had any OTA update so I can't help you further unfortunately.

Hello. I have a stock 4.5.91 At&t Atrix, unrooted, and with a locked bootloader. When I booted up today, some applications that are in my Media Area had disappeared. In the Manage Apps section, it lists them in com. form. For example, Tank Hero is named com.clapfootgames.tankhero. When I try to move these apps back to the phone or clear their data, the system says they don't exist. Rebooting doesn't help, and I don't want to factory reset, as I have 90+ downloaded apps.
I'd try clearing the dalvik cache and cache partition. Not sure how to without cwm. Faced the same issue couple of times...

Upon rebooting, the apps were restored, but I know this problem will persist. I'll live with it until I root (which I'm very tempted to do). Thank you for the reply!
Hi Forum
I'm experiencing an odd thing with the P7510. I've been using AOKP for weeks now and all the sudden the thing froze up on me. This time I'm not able to reboot and go any further than the booting screen after the Galaxy Tab logo.
I thought a Wipe data / factory reset would help but It freezes as soon as I select the Wipe data function.
Nor am I able to wipe Dalvik Cache nor fix permissions (heck you try everything at this point). - All instant freeze except for Wipe Cashe Partition and using the install zip from sdcard, back etc.
Unfortunately I do not have the AOKP zip on the tablet anymore but if I'm remembering correct you need to wipe data when installing AOKP which I won't be able to do no mater what.
Do you guys have any idea what I could do to save the unit?
Fixed I was able to bring it back using the unroot guide. Unfortunately everything I got on there is gone - Either way thank you for looking!
That's really weird.

The interesting thing is a number of cases seems to happen in mid June this year.
Is this problem date related?
I'm using roman rom by the way.

Hi,
Hopefully someone has a solution for me.
This morning I switched on my TF101 and when I tried to go home from Gmail the button lit up but did nothing. I was convinced it didn't work. So I treid a few reboots and still nothing. I tried some other launchers and still nothing.
On further inspection I realised that when turning on slide unlock that also didn't work. Changing to pin, pattern or password still shows no unlock.
Are you running stock or a custom ROM?
Are you running stock recovery or a custom one?
I'd try to wipe the cache and dalvik, it fixes lots of weird software issues.

It's the stock ROM rooted with debugfs.
I know how to wipe the cache but how do I wipe the dalvik. I remember doing it once a couple of years ago on another device but for the life of me now can't remember.
I was going to try clearing the davlik with Terminal Emulator and typed "su" followed by "ls" and all it showed is "recovery". Does this mean it's somehow landed in recovery mode? If so, how do I get out of it?
I managed to clear dalvik through terminal emulator. Optimised apps and rebooted but the problem persists.

If you have CWM, go to advanced, wipe Davlik.

Thanks, now I remember I used CWM.
I thought I'd report back on this in case the information might help someone else down the line.
I tried the cache/davlik clear method and that did nothing for me. I stuck with it for a few days and eventually resorted to button saviour. I also realised that not only was the home button and any lock screen not working, but when using the ASUS quick settings in notifications it didn't show all settings.
This lead me to believe something in the system itself had gotten warped.
Today I did a Titanium backup, factory reset and restored all apps, data and system data. Initially it was fixed but on restart the problem casme back. I knew I'd restored whatever had caused the issue. My next step was to do another factory reset. Since it takes minutes to manually get the system back I only restored apps and data.
This time, after restore the issue was gone. So clearly the issue was in a system setting.
So for anyone else having this issue. Backup with Titanium, factory reset and only restore apps+data.
The Message "Config stopped" keeps appearing on my Nexus 7 screen and it jumps into repeated rebooting.
Why is this so? can anyone out there help me? I'm new to this portal and a complete novice on the ins and outs of the nexus 7.

Are you using a custom ROM? If so, do a full factory reset and wipe the caches. Then install the latest version of the ROM (make sure it is not a known bug of the ROM too). Don't restore your apps via an app backup thing. If you must, do them one at a time so you can identify if one of the apps is causing the problem.
If you arent on a custom ROM, consider uninstalling all apps that are risky, then reinstall one at a time.
Next wipe the data of any system apps that could cause this problem.
If this doesn't work, do a factory reset. You may need to return to stock using adb to wipe the dalvik and cache (I don't know if factory reset doesn't this anyway).
I hope this helps
Thanks, I will try the latter, as I'm not rooted. Will keep you posted.

I think you need to do full reflash...
I mean HERE.
Go to recovery menu, wipe data and cache + dalvik cache. Pull out battery, put it back, turn your phone to DOWNLOAD mode.
use PIT from that link, use Odin (for me worked very well 3.09 version) and... I don't know, try. This method should work
Ohh, and also, How I upgraded:
0. Am on 9505 model
1. I used pit file (re-partition)
2. used
Germany DBT (October 2013) (firmware with Enforcing SELinux. SECURED BOOTLOADER WILL BE FLASHED, NO DOWNGRADE)
PDA: I9505XXUEMJ5
CSC: I9505OXAEMJ5
MODEM: I9505XXUEMJ5
Version 4.3
3. Did what I said - wipe data, cache, dalvik cache... same method.
For me works, but I only see few text lines at every boot (but they don't change anything, I just ignore them. I added photo so you can preview
You wiped dalvik and cache, so that means you didn't do a system/data wipe? Try that first.

Sorry i didn't understand your question...
This is what I did:
I wiped user data
I wiped cache
I wiped dalvik cache (under advanced)
and that's what i've done in recovery menu
P.s. I didn't give you instructions (even it looks like LIST) but it's not... Or do you need step-by-step instructions? Huh.. am too lazy but if you really need I can write, just tell me what
