I have my nook color booting cm7 from my SD card. My computer now wont recognized it as a USB device like it did when it was stock. Is there a way to be able to remedy this so that I can add files, music, or videos on it?

It's a known issue currently with CM7. If you need to connect via usb you can flash an older version of CM7 (7.0.2 it works for sure, can't remember exactly when it broke), otherwise you can use dropbox, wireless adb, wireless file transfer or other such wireless programs available in the market for transferring your data
Hi I recently rooted my nook color to cm7 and when I connect my nook it does not recognize it you can hear it but it does not show up on my computer what can I do so I add book internal in the nook many thanks if you can guide this newbie
shot in the dark...
In CM7 when you plug the nook into the computer to access the SD-card and the internal 5gigs, a task is added to the status bar it doesn't auto mount. It asks if you want to mount to the usb. Just select the task and then press the start button.
If that's not it, try uninstalling then re-installing the usb drivers for the nook on your computer.
What PC are you using Linux, Win, Mac?
I use this program for mounting my NC to my Windows box;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952456
I'm using windows, but when I say status bar I mean the one on the nook. you don't need to use that app anymore for just connecting to the sd-card and 5gig media partition. Once you plug in the cable and activate usb storage in the android status bar, you will see two removable drives connect.

Hey that's awesome! Much easier too.
No idea why it's not showing up in the statusbar for you though. Perhaps Windows isn't telling the nook that it's connected? Would updating / reinstalling the Windows drivers help? Hope you find a solution!
im having the same problem with my comp not seeing the nook or the sd card in it. im using xp and have tried everything i can think of as a n00b.
Going to sound really stupid but this happened to me...
Make sure you have an sd card in the nook before you plug it in =P
I didn't have mine in the nook and it would make the sound as though the computer recognized it but it wouldnt give me the option in the status bar to actually allow the usb connection to go through. minute i put an sd card in the nook and then plugged it into my computer both drives opened up flawlessly.
*im running the latest cm7 nightly internally if that helps
I have been trying to search the forum but having no luck. I switched from cm7 to cm10 recently and I am looking for a way app/utility whatever to have my sd card mount on my pc when I plug in usb so I can transfer files to my storage partition. I was using USB Mass Storage Watcher app(I think it was called) before, but it doesn't like cm10 very much. If there is no way to see usb connection from android to pc, what would be the next best option?

That setting is built into CM10. Go to storage, then hit menu and USB configuration pops up. Select that. Select mass storage and back out. Now when you connect to PC both emmc and sdcard should show up as disk drives. The only app that I might use with that is my modified NookColorUMS app that I modified to work on CM9. It also works on CM10. Get it on my tips thread linked in my signature. And read about it in the second post in that thread. It allows you to mount any partition you want with UMS.
You might also look into using one of the transfer-over-wifi apps to get your data files onto Nook, I use WifiFileExplorer to this effect and never hassle with USB cords/connexions. Quick and sees everything.

Love Wifi File Explorer Pro. I haven't taken an sd card out of my devices in months.
Thanks
Beautiful, I didn't think to hit menu after I was in the storage settings. I'll check out the wifi explorer too. Thank you guys!
Hello I've installed CM 10.1 on my Nook and it works with until End of April.
After installation of cm-10.1-20130429-NIGHTLY-encore.zip the Nook Bottom and the emulated Home Key are not working anymore.
After that it's getting worse, Version 05/02 doesn't boot any more and stays at the boot logo forever.
I've reverted to version 04/25. All versions share the same problem with missing menu entries in settings, for example Developer options and Performance. I can't post in the correct threat so I post it here.

The new versions require you to activate those menu items. Go to settings, about tablet and tap the build number several times. That will activate them.

Thank you for this answer, I was going crazy trying to figure out how to enable USB.
Edit: okay, maybe that wasn't as easy as it seemed. I activated developer options, android debugging is selected, yet my computer (windows 8 laptop) does not recognize the nook, I want to transfer files from my external hard drive to the nook. I updated whatever drivers I thought I should before posting, so I'm not sure what else I should do. I don't see an option for USB mass storage, only debugging. Thanks.

You do not want USB debugging on to use USB mass storage. Turn it off. Then go to storage, menu, USB computer connections, and check off USB mass storage. Then when you plug in the USB, there should be a notification in the notification area. Select that and it gives you the option to activate it.
But by default CM10 /CM10.1 uses MTP and not USB mass storage. When you plug it in the device shows as a portable device in Windows explorer below the drivers. But you never know with that crazy W8.

Okay, I'm getting closer to figuring this out. I disabled the debugging. Went to storage, checked off USB mass storage then plugged in device which defaulted to MTP, and you're right, it shows up as a portable device in W8 file explorer. When I click on internal storage in W8, I get an error message the device is not responding. Am I not able to transfer/copy files to emmc? I took out the SD card (as you explained to me the thread I normally correspond with you through) before rebooting after flashing CM10.1. I do not yet have a separate card for files, I'll have to buy one this weekend. Thanks again for all of your help.

You can go back to USB mass storage and try that.

When I select USB mass storage, the nook disappears from W8 file explorer. The laptop recognizes it with MTP but no access to files. Is this a driver issue?

Last question, I think. Is having an SD card installed mandatory for files? I tried emailing a book as an attachment to see if I could save it that way to my internal storage, but I get a pop-up that an SD Card must be in when I try to view/open the pdf.

Yes, some apps require an SD. Older versions of CM allowed you to swap emmc and sdcard. But it is not implemented in CM10/CM10.1.

Does that mean I'll need to use an SD card to read books from? I'm still not sure why I can't enable USB mass storage or access/copy files to emmc. Thanks.

It depends on which book reader app you use. Most require an SD, but some, and I don't remember which, allow you to specify where books are stored. Just buy one, they are cheap and don't have to be very big to store books and such.
CM10.1 has been making some changes lately. About how emmc is accessed and that may have messed things up for MTP. It used to work nicely. Getting an SD will help with this issue too.

I've tried it again with RC2 and the Nook Bottom and the Home Key are still not working. I have no choice I going back to 04/25 again.

Just curious if you're running any of the release candidates? When I went into develop options to check, there is now rc1 and r 2. I'm not sure if I can jump to rc 2 or if updates need to be installed in order. From what I've read, if I take the update from the Nook, I do not need to wipe anything?
Oddly, now that I have an SD card, I can access emmc via usb and I have not changed any settings since taking cm10.1. If I remove the card, access to emmc disappears, but at least this is forward progress even if I can't explain it. Thanks.

I have not tried it. But you can flash it directly over the older ROM without wiping with no problems.

I am running CM10.1 from a mSD card. When I connect my NC to my computer via USB cable it isn't recognized. The NC is recognized with the mSD card out of the NC and booted into the NC's OS. Computer OS is Linux. I ran fdisk -l just to check and card in it is not seen. Is the NC recognized only with no card in or what. The CM10 was unlocked. I wanted to transfer some book files over. Will I have to pull the card and plug it into my computer?
Try going into settings > storage > USB computer connection and make sure that your device isn't showing up as a Media Device (MTP).
In other words, ensure that your device is being mounted as a Mass storage device.

Thank you for the answer but I suspect that was a Windows answer not a Linux answer but it gives me a place to start looking. I'll try running running "lsusb" again.

I meant to try inspecting the settings on your nook. Mass storage devices should appear irrespective of the computer platform. I've used my NC as a usb volume to move files to-and-from linux devices before.
Since you mention that the computer can see your NC as a storage device but not the SD card, it may be an issue with a setting on the NC (not the computer). Or not! One thing about linux is that there is quite a bit of variability between different users' setups.

Thanks for your patience. I do not show a USB computer connection in storage. What I did notice though maybe not related is that Unmount SD card and Erase SD card are grayed out when the USB cable is plugged in.
There should be a menu icon - 3 dots in the upper right in settings>storage
