[Q] nook as usb device - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have my nook color booting cm7 from my SD card. My computer now wont recognized it as a USB device like it did when it was stock. Is there a way to be able to remedy this so that I can add files, music, or videos on it?

It's a known issue currently with CM7. If you need to connect via usb you can flash an older version of CM7 (7.0.2 it works for sure, can't remember exactly when it broke), otherwise you can use dropbox, wireless adb, wireless file transfer or other such wireless programs available in the market for transferring your data

[Q] Mounting emmc and sd in phiremod 6.2

I just flashed phiremod 6.2 and I must say, it's very snappy and I love the interface.
Today I had the need to put a couple of pdf files on the device to read over later and was having issues mounting this to the pc. I would connect the nc to the computer through the usb cable, and the device would display the usb connect and debugging icons in the notification bar but nothing registered on the computer. No new devices or anything showed up on my pc.
Is this an issue that has been experienced by others and if so, what is the workaround for it? Thanks.
Use NookColorUms app and U can do what U need.
U can mount/unmount whatever U want.

MTP on XP?

Hi all...I have ICS nightly running from the SD card on my Nook Color.
I would like to connect it to my media server PC (running XP) and transfer some media files, however, when I connect it, the PC attempts to install the MTP drivers and then says it did not find them and could not install. Then it tries to install Nook Color and fails as well. The end result is that the Nook does not show up, as a device or as individual drives.
The XP machine does have Win Media Player 11 on it, and it will see the Nook without the ICS SD card.
Any ideas on how to connect and transfer files? I know about the wireless functions, I'd just like to be able to connect via usb...it seems much faster.
disable usb debugging to get mtp to work on winxp
i stumbled across this the other day
I used Multi-Mount SD Card on CM7 with great success. Have not tried it on CM9 yet.

[Q]Transferring files on cm9/10?

I have been trying to search the forum but having no luck. I switched from cm7 to cm10 recently and I am looking for a way app/utility whatever to have my sd card mount on my pc when I plug in usb so I can transfer files to my storage partition. I was using USB Mass Storage Watcher app(I think it was called) before, but it doesn't like cm10 very much. If there is no way to see usb connection from android to pc, what would be the next best option?

That setting is built into CM10. Go to storage, then hit menu and USB configuration pops up. Select that. Select mass storage and back out. Now when you connect to PC both emmc and sdcard should show up as disk drives. The only app that I might use with that is my modified NookColorUMS app that I modified to work on CM9. It also works on CM10. Get it on my tips thread linked in my signature. And read about it in the second post in that thread. It allows you to mount any partition you want with UMS.
You might also look into using one of the transfer-over-wifi apps to get your data files onto Nook, I use WifiFileExplorer to this effect and never hassle with USB cords/connexions. Quick and sees everything.

Love Wifi File Explorer Pro. I haven't taken an sd card out of my devices in months.
Thanks
Beautiful, I didn't think to hit menu after I was in the storage settings. I'll check out the wifi explorer too. Thank you guys!

[Q] Where are Cmod's data files located on a bootable CMOD 10 microSD?

Hello.
I recently followed these (apparently and abridged version of this) instructions to get the Cmod 10 nightlies running on my nook off of a microSD card. My question is this: where are the data files that Cmod (or vanilla Android, for that matter), creates on your SD card? I am trying to figure out how to transfer files from my computer to my nook (as I did with my microSD in the Cmod 7 install running off the internal HDD of my nook), and can't figure it out. Either answering my original question or just giving me a way to transfer my files would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Sora
Depends on what you mean by data files. There are two kinds. One is where CM stores the installed apps and their settings. I doubt that is what you meant. The second are media data files, like books, magazines, music, movies and just general downloaded files.
If you meant the second kind of data files, for an SD install they are kept on partition 4 of the SD, named SDCARD. You cannot see that partition when you put the SD directly in the PC. The only way to see it with the PC is to plug in the USB cable to the PC while CM10 is running and see them with Windows Explorer. And by default CM10 uses a protocol called MTP to let you see them. It shows up in Windows Explorer as a portable device in the left pane below the drive letters.

[Q] Rooted Nook not recognized by ADE

I rooted my Nook Color with Jelly Bean to SD card. It has been working great.
I want to borrow a book from my public library but it is only available as a PDF book. I installed ADE on my laptop and can download the book to ADE. But when I plug in my Nook Color ADE does not see it. When I go to My Computer, my NC is listed so I know my laptop does see the NC.
If I go to stock NC, ADE recognizes it. I enabled USB debugging but that did not help. Does anyone have any ideas? I have posted on 2 other forums and have not gotten any answers.
Thanks.

If you mean ADB, then the reason your PC does not recognize it is the PID is changed. Look in my NC tips thread and read the section on ADB.
Or did you mean Adobe Digital Edition? What does that have to do with USB Debugging? That is what confused me. It could be because USB Mass Storage does not work with jellybean on the NC. Only MTP works. There is a setting in settings, storage, advanced, USB configuration, but I don't think it works.

I did mean Adobe Digital Edition. Someone in another forum mentioned the USB debugging. I changed the setting in the USB configuration to mass storage and my laptop no longer recognized the NC and ADE also did not recognize it. So I changed it back to MTP. So I'm still looking for help.

I told you USB mass storage in jellybean is broken. So if ADE requires it, you are SOL.

Yeah I get that. But I was hoping someone would know of another way to get borrowed library PDF books to a reader app on the rooted NC.
You can always use drop box. The ES file explorer app has drop box integration and let's you copy and paste from drop ox folders to your SD card storage.

I just updated my NC CM10 to the 4/14 version. I tested the USB mass storage option and it works. So I don't know if that is new or has been fixed for a while. You might try the latest build. Once you set up USB mass storage, you must tap the authorize button on the NC once you plug it in.

So are you finding that version pretty stable? I have 12/31/2012 and it has been working out really well. All the apps I have installed have been running smoothly so far. I hate to update to something that is buggy when I have a version that is working well. On the other hand, getting the USB mass storage working is really a plus especially if it works for getting the PDF books.
Yes, it is stable.

I feel foolish asking this question but here goes. As I have never updated CM10 on SD card, what is the best way to do this without losing anything? Do I download the nightly and then drop into the root folder on my SD card which would mean removing from Nook and putting it into my laptop? Or do I go thru Settings and About Tablet?
Thanks.

You take the card out and copy the CM zip to the boot partition. Put the card in and boot to cyanoboot menu (hold n key) and select SD Recovery. It will boot and install the new CM10.

So I did the update and it went flawlessly. I went to storage, then USB connection and then mass storage. I'm not seeing the authorize button once I plug it in. I rebooted and still not finding it. So what am I missing?

A screen should pop up that says "turn on USB" or something like that. Pull down the notification area and see if there is anything there. More drives should show up in your PC Windows explorer. They will show no contents until you hit that turn on USB button.
Edit: be sure to turn off USB debugging too.

Thanks. After turning off USB debugging I got the pop up screen. It now shows up in Adobe Digital Editions.
