I'm switch to an unlocked Droid Pro from my Verizon Droid RAZR M. I know this is a downgrade, but I'm switching to a prepaid plan, and I just couldn't handle not having a physical keyboard any more.
I know I'll want to root and ROM my Droid Pro. I used to have a Droid 2 Global and I hated the 2.2/2.3 Motoblur junk that was on it. I never rooted my RAZR M because the newer moto software is actually pretty slick.
What is the smoothest ROM out there for the Droid Pro? CM7?
I think I already found a ported version of Smart Actions (which is great if you haven't tried it), but I'd still like to find a ported version of the Motorola Circles Widget. Anyone know where to find that?
Does Z4root still work for rooting the Pro? I know that used to be in the market.
I'd appreciate any advice about making this phone run as smooth as possible, I'd really like to avoid as many headaches as possible coming from such a newer and faster phone.
Thanks in advance!

Hey I was wondering if there was any way that someone could make a sense rom for the droid 2 and if it would even run on it. Also why wouldn't it work it is just additions to the system/app and system/framework.
Please explain what a locked bootloader restricts. I know it means that you can't use un-official kernels but does that mean you can't change it to sense?\
I would love to have the new sense from the desire HD for the droid 2.
****BUMP****
from what i understand the big thing holding back alot of the dev work for stuff like that on the droid2 is the motorola locked bootloader.... so far i've seen themes and the like with alot of the motoblur taken out/turned off but nothing beyond that (not even an aosp) but i know that its being worked on by some good people and I am holding my breath for the goods to start flowing for both the 2 and the X.... in fact i would really like to have it by the big tx bbq.... kinda soon but i can dream

i adapted somehow htc sense to our Milestone (Droid 1 EU edition) , it works, but lacks speed due to the limited 256MB RAM available, secondly no-one has written a driver that emulated the bcm4329 hardware, so making bluetooth working ok is another major "not working".. even on older htc phones they had problems.
anyways i can say its possible is i did the reverse and put MotoBlur on Milestone, it works but somehow also lacks 512MB RAM here too.
to end this quick note,
HTC sense is not just an addition to the framework, its a different releas of the framework, every vendor does this, so like EU motorola did many updates on the milestone, but only first found now in droidx,droid2...
and porting it is not so simple, but i would think its possible, but i guess its too early for droid2 to have anything running as no real recovery exists, which loads before any os.
the one you got has a live /system when you open recovery, which means you can easily mess up your phone when you start modding to use sense, and pretty much make it unbootable, so a new sbf needs installed, which again means alot of testing before you actually get it working, and then backup? another problem to work with when you make small changes..
its not easy task without a real unlocked boot or a good recovery solution..
ok so technically what would I have to do to put sense on the droid 2?

It will never work 100% of even close enough to have the phone fully functional. People have been trying since the Original Droid. It's also tied into the RIL of phone.
Out of the blue question
What about just theming the home screen menubars to get the sense menubars only? Is that possible?
that should be possible, as a few themes available right now have already altered those files with success. Now you just have to grab a Sense based ROM form a Droid 1 and start copying and modding image files mostly i think. to make a deodexed hybrid of Sense and MotoBlur.
Is is possible to just to have the speed-dialer/contact app working the D2(that is the only real thing I will miss if I go with the D2)?
I'd move to the D2 right away if you can get the HTC keyboard mixed with the multitouch keyboard of the D2, and then add contact app(and all that comes with it), and music app. That all I really like out of my Eris.
If the D1 was able to get a sense port(from what i have seen) how come we cant get it on the D2?

the original Droid ran stock android, but the droid 2 has a custom framework (MotoBlur) and a locked bootloader.
Makes logical sens thanks
Hey ive been seeing this MIUI floating around and just seeing if there one for the droid 2? if not can some body get this thing rolling??
Even I had a clue on how to go about this I'd give it a go, but I'm too new to Android to have a clue on how to port roms.
droid 2 roms
I would love to see the zen miui rom for the droid 2. Also, I see a lot of themes for the droid 2 but not many in fact hardly any custom roms. I am spoiled though because I am coming from a droid 1. Verizon replaced my defective Droid 1 with a Droid 2 but I think my Droid 1 was better because of the unlocked bootloader and all the custom roms. I have rom manager and it only has 2 listed and they don't wok. Any help would be appreciated. thanks. Mike

the phones only been out a few months, and there are several custom roms....and people still working on bootloader.
Personally running epic 2.7 atm, but there's also all the motoboy star wars stuff & green rom, and there will be lots more in the months to come. Have to realize the d1 has been out for a long time, so of course there's going to be a lot more custom stuff out.
Glad to hear they are still working on the bootloader. It would be nice if they can unlock it.
Hey everybody, I'm switching to an iPhone 4 to the Droid X within a matter of weeks now. That being said, I am a VERY experience user of iOS and even got Android on my old iTouch. Every iDevice I have owned has been jailbroken and heavily used. However, I believe it is time to switch to the Droid X. It has a much bigger screen, much more speed, and a more reliable network. Now to the good stuff - I have been following several threads on the Droid X about the "ROMS" . I do love the Vanilla Android look and would definetely want to put that on my upcoming Droid X. Does anyone know of a good instruction guide to get that properly set-up and working for noobies? Thanks to everybody, looking forward to making the big switch!
there is a good tutorial over on droidxforums.com for root/roms/backup in the hacks section
Welcome aboard. I too dumped my iPhone 4 after six months and now have the Droid X. I cleared some good resale value, and couldn't be happier. If you haven't sold it yet I would suggest checking out www.wennecorp.com, they were easy to deal with and a legit buyer.
Z4root will get you rooted (free in market) and Rom Manager will get you familiar with roms. You will also need bootstrap recovery to get started flashing. Google it. Steer clear of the leaked 2.2.1 flash for now. There is no full SBF to recover if things go wrong. Once the full SBF is available, it's no big deal. Use Rom Manager to back up before each and every flash. This will save you alot of headache. You will always have something stable to go back to if things go bad, unless you upgrade bootloader. Once you upgrade bootloader, old backups are useless. Another reason to stay away from the leak for now.
thanks for the suggestion bro

Just ordered my DX on Ebay to replace my slowly deteriorating, yet faithful, Droid Incredible.
I am trying my best to read through the threads here, but there is a lot to take in (though development does seem to lag considerably behind the Inc). My plan is to stay stock for a few days to see what it is like, and then I will root and have fun. I have used at least 30 ROMS across five different devices, so flashing and rooting is not new to me.
If anyone is willing to distill some information for me, it would be much appreciated. Here are my questions...
1) Are there any reasons not to root the DX? What I mean is, are there any known pitfalls such as hardware failure that are known to be linked to rooting with the DX. I know of the implied dangers with regard to bricking.
2) Are there any others who have come from the Incredible? I have run every ROM available for that phone, and I think MIUI and SkyRaider were my favorites. I liked the Sense 3.0 stuff, but it was fairly unstable (not to mention the DX doesn't have Sense anyway). Any recommendations here for ROMs that are similar in flavor?
3)WHAT IS SO BAD ABOUT BLUR?? I put this in caps because there seems to be a lot of hate on this motoblur skin for android, and many people adamantly demand ROMs to be de-blurred. What's so bad about it? How does it compare to Sense? I guess from what I've seen on video comparisons it doesn't seem all that bad.
Anything else I should know about this device before I get started on it? Anything I should definitely do or NOT do as far as modding is concerned?
Thanks!

Welcome to the Droid X community!
In your experiences here you will learn that the Incredible and the Droid X have many differences.
To answer your queries:
1. There are no hardware pitfalls when rooting a Droid X, and our device is virtually brick proof.
2. My personal favorite rom for the Droid X is MIUI, but there are many popular roms. DarkslideX is a stock based rom that is absolute in speed and battery life (giving over fifteen hours).
3. Sense is better than blur in nearly every aspect. Blur slows the phone down incredibly, you won't experience the full capability of your Droid X using blur.
Some things you should know:
1. What a sbf file is. It is what makes this device virtually unbrickable, it will return you to pure stock with only several clicks. Also, SBFing to Froyo is required when flashing roms such as MIUI and CyanogenMod.
2. Don't ever use Droid X Bootstrap. When flashing from Froyo to any Gingerbread rom you must use Droid 2 Bootstrapper or you will have to reSBF your phone.
I'll report back if I think of anything else, good luck! =D
(I'll try to post links to important things later, also)

Fantastic! This is the kind of information I am fishing for. Thanks a million. I am mashing the 'Thanks' button.....
Also, do you have any real problems with MIUI on the DX? Any annoyances (like haptic not working, etc)?

Now have an X2 also. Which to keep??
Through an odd set of circumstances, I have now acquired an X2 in addition to an original X. Love the screen on the X2, and the CPu & GPU, but seems like the X might still be the better choice given that it is further along the development cycle. Seems the X2 may never get there because I can't tell that very many great devs are working on it. Could be wrong though. Any thoughts on which phone I should keep?? Have to sell one of them in the next couple of weeks to recoup some costs.
I was going along fine using my Droid Razr M (Verizon v4.4.2) when my credit union obsoleted it by requiring android 5.0. <sigh>
I screwed around with Verizon for a month playing with new phones until I ended up with an LG K20 V running Nougat 7.0.
I hate it.:crying: I hate where the power button is. Its too big (pocket-wise), has no panel LEDs like the Droid M, and throws billions of notifications at me.
I'm sitting there with my big buyer's remorse hanging over me:crying: and I figure it out.
If Verizon can't update my phone, I can via XDA.
Because I hate Nook software but love Nook hardware (and prices), my Nook has been running CyanogenMod since a week after I bought it.
So I know how to install/update software to EMMC.
I want to update my Droid to either Marshmallow (v6) or Nougat (V7).
So I figure this is the place to come to.
Does anyone out there have any recommendations for ROMs and recovery software for the Droid Razr M??
