I've been rooting and stuff for a few years but I usually did it on my windows PC and not my MBP, anyone care to point me into the direction of what I can do to fix this? I`m thinking it has something to do with CWM.

Had same problems I had been dragging and dropping folder locations into command line. Was told duplicates folder root permissions. Also realized was using wrong CWM. Some peoples external websites are posting faults CWM's. I don't think they really own a nexus 4. Well good luck!

Found it you need 6.0.2.3 img not 6.0.3.0! Good luck!

Is there a way to me to revert back to the original recovery mode? I set it to use CWM as default when I first did the root or something like that.

Need to use adb debugging push correct image over current image. Would do all tasks from unlocking boot loader to root device again make sure no duplicate permissions. Search forums for adb commands for nexus 4.

are you sure the file you downloaded is for the nexus 4 (mako)
because if you go to this---> http://get.cm/?device=mako
non of those files are named just cm-10.1 download from there and you shouldnt have a problem flashing

I`m on a Mac and it unzips the file and I end up re zipping then sending to Phone. Someone just advised I download straight from device so I am trying that now. I downloaded straight from CM site, so its prob my computer shortening the file names.

thats the problem. open up the safari preferences and on the bottom of general, uncheck automatically open. Then it won't unzip. or just use chrome. re zipping doesn't sign the file, and it won't work
gimme a thanks if I helped!

Tired of the old Sprint Ahead animation...replace it!

This is total fluff, but...if you're tired of the Sprint Ahead animation during startup of your device, and are sick of iPhone users whipping out their 'units' to show you how purdy they are...try this on for size.

I made this the same size and frame number as the original so you simply have to drop it into your \windows directory...right-click the image above and 'save picture as...' and rename to 'SPCS_startup.gif' (btw - it doesn't loop...so if you didn't see it, refresh your browser)
Enjoy!
-E
you could just turn off the startup animation using the configuration tools available on this site.
Yeah...I'm aware of that...but where's the fun in that? (also, mine doesn't seem to boot any faster without the animation)
-E
how would i go about this on a vzw xv6800? i am not seeing the SPCS_startup.gif in the windows folder. I'm assuming the startup animation is under a different filename. Anyone know?
can you explain how to do this step by step? sorry just got my phone and still trying to figure out everything
Tried to do this per your instructions on my Mogul but the original file on the stock rom won't delete and it also won't let me copy this one in it's place. What now?

Yea I had this same issue..It doesnt allow you to rename it...or delete it either. Guess its not as easy as he made it seem.

Try copying it to the device first (like in my docs) and then use the file explorer in the device to overwrite the old file.
If you try to do it from your desktop it will simply say the file is protected...
But if you do it from the device it will ask you if you really want to overwrite the file and release it just long enough to let you change the file.
I did this from my Mogul not from the desktop. Used the device to go to this thread. Copied the .gif to my storage card, re-copied and tried to paste to the Windows directory. It asked if I wanted to replace the file with this one. I tapped yes. Error message: File cannot be replaced. Tried to delete the original file. Error message: File cannot be deleted. I appreciate your help with this. I'm not a noob, I just don't really post or upload anything.
use total commander
worked great thanks
Sorry for not explaining it further...and for not getting back to those who were interested. I guess I never even tried to copy directly from the desktop OS...I always pull data from my desktop to storage on the device before doing anything with it.
I'm glad that somebody else out there thought this was at least a little amusing and decided to throw it on their device.

Installing stock ROM from shipped-roms.com?

I went to the download page at http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Vision and there are a bunch of .exe files there. My computer (Win7) was originally installed in Chinese, I have since changed it to English. BUT the installer detects Chinese somewhere in the system, and displays all of the install menus in Chinese, so I can't read it. What do I have to do to install? Is there a set of screenshots anywhere so I can follow along? Does the .exe just dump installer files on your system, or just write directly to the phone over USB?
I'm returning the phone for warranty repair as there is an area of the screen where the touch doesn't work. Anything else I should do? Do they check to see if a cooked ROM has been installed, or if they see it's stock, just proceed with the warranty? I suspect I'll get an entirely new phone.

Saw it, but the roms from the linked site are not Asian, can't use them.
The exe extracts the rom.zip and the tools to flash it (adb, fastboot) to %temp%, you could go there and flash the rom yourself, or you can just click next on the exe a bunch of times, with your phone plugged in, on fastboot usb mode.
-Nipqer
Why do I need my phone plugged in? I don't want anything to install, I can't tell what it's doing. I just want to extract the files.
You shouldn't need your phone plugged in. Just open the exe,so it extracts to %temp%, then drag it out of the way so you can find the rom.zip

I finally got it to display in English. Here's what the installer screen was saying (that I couldn't understand as it was in Chinese):

How to proceed? I'd rather extract the files and flash using clockworkmod than use this weird installer.
well you can't flash an ruu through recovery so use the installer or find a pc10img to flash through hboot. make sure you are to flash the proper stuff or you will have a brick

Stuck at bootscreen

Okay, I am new to the rooting and modifying android devices.. I rooted my Nexus 7 using supersu and was making modifications with ROM toolbox pro. I changed the boot screen, the font, and the wireless icon(starting out small) well when I restarted my tablet it wouldn't get past the lboot screen that I set to.
When I went into recovery mode, I tried to recovery my old system but it giving me md5 missing.. so I'm kinda of stuck
is there a direct approach to the solution?
Nice tip. Only use stuff like mods tha are on xda. Use metamorph to impalement theming stuff or flashable zips. Regaurds your situation ty flashing the rom again. Wipe data factory reset. If all else fails flash the google factory image and learn from your mistakes you made. Most problems you get in the future are pretty easily fixed with a bit of patience

Move your android folder to the C: Drives root folder and try directing the command prompt from there.
Type :-
cd c:\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools
adb

[GUIDE] Restore saved WiFi when flashing a new Rom

Greetings,
first of all, since this is my first guide, please be kind and for another thing, english is not my mother tongue so pardon eventual spelling errors.
I'am sort of a "flash-o-holic" and one thing that drives me nuts is everytime i flash a new rom, i have to reenter my saved WiFi-networks including their passwords. And since these passwords are really long, about 16 to 26 characters, it's a very tedious process.
But a found a solution or workaround, that i want to share with you.
First, grab your wpa_supplicant.conf file, usually it's saved under /system/etc/wifi/ (you can either pull it via adb or copy it with a root explorer to your sdcard) a save this file on your PC.
Now download your desired rom (if you haven't already), open it with a zip tool (i use 7zip and so should you ), navigate to /system/etc/wifi/ and replace the wpa_supplicant.conf file.

}
And that's it!
You can just flash it like normal via custom recovery.
Worked for me everytime. (=
Nice, I never thought about that. I usually restore this using Titanium Backup, but that requires getting TB onto the phone first. With your method wi-fi will be available imediately after booting.
EDIT: Except... that file is mostly empty. For me the file with my wifi data is /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf
...or you can just backup your data using Google. it restores your WiFi passwords

I could do that, but i don't want to save my WiFi-Settings & passwords on a google server. It's silly i know but i'am kinda paranoid.

Same for me
Well, i guess the Main Argument against that would be:
When you need to restore from Google, you have to connect to wifi first, right?

[Q] I can't find a good .md5 for rooting

I'm just trying to root my note 3.
The steps seem easy, I have odin, I can put my phone into bootloader mode, but every .md5 I try Fails in odin.
The "root" tab on this website is aged and doesn't specify Verizon Kitkat SM-N900V
so obviously everything I tried there failed.
does anyone have an md5 for this I can use?

Awesome, this looks like a step in the right direction but it seems that I have to create the custom firmware, but it has to be done with a Linux terminal.
"How to use Universal Root de la Vega:
Open a terminal to the directory containing URDLV.sh (not windows command prompt)"
I don't have linux, and I may be missing something but I don't see a way to do this with windows. Any ideas?

Alright.. well, I ran that md5 through Odin and it failed. I got this:

And I guess it corrupted my firmware or something because my phone wouldn't boot after that. Had this "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please use Software Repair Assistant & try again."
Thankfully in my adventures of trying to root this damn thing, I've encountered this before and have a stock md5 to recover the phone when this happens.
