My 614c is getting more and more ****ed up.
First it started out with that the battery meter always is 100%, so I have no idea when the battery is low. The phone won't charge when on unless i push the powerbutton to "sleep mode" or i turn the phone off.
Also the two buttons below the screen doesn't work and my scroll wheel(smart scroll) neither. Not sure if that happened before or after the battery meter problem.
To add to that the backlighting isn't working anymore either. I've tried new ROMs but it's the same problem on all of them.
This is my second 614c, first one the USB connection stopped working and it was replaced by HP.
And i don't think I'll get a new replacement phone again. My phone has a scratch on the screen and a few scratches on the shell from dropping it. I would need to reflash it to Swedish ROM too if i send it in, but I don't have the original rom anymore.
Anyone else had similar problems? And is it worth trying to get a replacement?
There have been members with battary issues but that seems to be fixed or at least improved with a replacement battary.
Have you tried flashing with another rom to see if the new rom you flashed with is the cause?
Considering the age of the phone now, i'd probally not get another one. Would look into the VGA screens, HW keyboards, Android maybe etc.
Thats said i'm very happy with mine and have had no issues with battary or hardware.
New ROMS from xda and especially Sergiorus has made it an excellent phone for me.
It's an old topic, but I recently had the same issue. Removing the battery solved the problem as long as I didn't put the phone in standby.
Good news is, after a factory recovery, the problem was solved, so other iPaq suffering from this problem aren't ready for the trash yet
morning.
I have a HTC Touch Dual, this handheld is restarted prematurely and without apparent cause, what could be the problem?
I handheld radio channel update and win6.5 but the defect was already present on the old rom
ideas on this?
thanks for the interest it
I had a similar problem with my phone shutting off even after just taking it off the charger. It seemed to help when I took the battery off and wiped off the points where the battery and phone connect. Wipe the prongs and the slots on the battery. Not the same problem you are having, but it helped me. Didn't do anything else to mine so I'm assuming that's what it was.
Hi guys,
Tried searching for my problem, but though I found some similar stuff, noone had quite my problem.
I was checking my Nexus S after a trip and it was with the 'emergency only' message. This sometimes happens to me, not sure if it's due to the roaming activation or caused by a bug where the radio subsystem crashes after a long period without network.
Anyway, I proceeded to my common solution: Turn off and reboot.
Except that after the phone was off, it would not turn on.
It doesn't even vibrate. It doesn't show anything when connected to the wall socket or to the computer. It's just completely dead.
Now, I'm not even sure if this is a hardware or software problem. Any idea on how I can debug this?
Here's what I've tried:
1. Take the battery out: no changes (even tried leaving it out overnight).
2. Charge the phone overnight: no change.
Next step: I'll go to a store and try a different battery... meanwhile I'm without my primary phone which sucks... Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance!
Try booting your phone into the bootloader. Hold the power button and volume up button simultaneously.
If it is not the battery, i can see what else you can do, a "dont turn on" phone is a dead end...

Guess I'm screwed... I had some pics and other data there... anyway I can get it back? i.e. is there a way to remove the internal sd card?

Yup, it was one of the first things I tried. No sign of life... I can't get a single sign that the phone is even being powered. It's like the battery was taken out.

Sounds like something is wrong with the hardware then. Have you brought it the store? Might need to get a new one on warranty.
I have the same issue with my old Blackberry 9000. It worked fine up until I stopped using it. Left it in a drawer for a few months. Went to sell it to Sprint. Wouldn't turn on. No LED, no nothing. Worked fine months before when I was still using it. To this day I have no idea what's wrong with it and it doesn't turn on.
Why not get an external battery charger and charge the battery up and then test it?
All true, and after trying with a new battery I'll have a bit more information.
But what strikes me as odd is that I didn't leave it in a drawer - I didn't even let the battery run down... it was just a damn reboot! I shut it down, and then couldn't power it up again (try and imagine THAT happening to you). It would be odd for the battery to be sucked dry all of a sudden...
I have a feeling that there's something else... maybe while shutting down something burned out in the power circuitry....? =S
No one ever heard of anything like what I'm experiencing? It sucks to be the only one!
Thanks for all the help so far, guys!
If you can get to download mode nothing is lost. Just flash new image via Odin.

Never heard of that happening, but it's a possibility... Still, I would first attribute it to a bad battery and try that first

With a new battery (that works on another nexus S) still no luck. =(
I still can't find anyone with this problem. I feel like the unluckiest idiot on Earth.
I assume I can't get to download mode since I can't even get the phone to report it is charging (it used to do that even if off). Do you want me to try anything, though? I'm open to suggestions until Monday. Then I'm taking it to Samsung. Hope they can recover my pictures.
BTW, my receipt doesn't have the IMEI and a customer service rep told me I need it on the receipt or they won't give me free support. How can I get it with the phone off?
Regards and thanks to all who responded,
Nuno
nuno, if you cant power on even with a new charged battery, then it's a harware fault and nothing can me done... =o\
but thanks for the advice, i never thought about the data in sd card, i guess i should make some backups! =o)

I've got the same problem: dead nexus s after a reboot. It says "no service" emergency call does not work. I tried pretty much everything like switching the battery, recovery mode, plug it in, etc. I even updated its image to the latest I've got access to. No luck. I'm already contacting samsung to get it replaced.

Did you try flashing a different rom? Or radio/
I haven't experienced this myself but I'm very interested on what happened. Did you guys flash any custom ROMS? or Radios for that matter?
This looks very similar to what i have. I just got my nexus s GT-i9023, it doesn't boot into fast boot, recovery, download mode or normal. The most activity i have got so fare is when i take the battery out, put it back it, and try turn the phone on it will sometimes flash then do nothing. I have looked every ware. When i use "./platform-tools/adb get-state" it returns "unknown". Any help would be great.
What i think i did was this:
- Unlocked bootloader, this worked
- restart
- installed clockwork mod with fast boot, this worked
- wiped data
- wiped cache (correct me if i spelt that wrong, or anything else)
- flashed cyanogenmod, this got an error but i didn't notice it the first time and i can't remember what it was.
- flashed gapps, this didn't work, when i restarted the phone it said that the installer for gaps had quit.
- restarted
- flashed cyanogenmod again, this is when i noticed the error
- restarted, didn't change anything
- wiped data
- wiped cache
- flashed i9020t recovery, this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1061855 i think this is what stuffed it up because my phone is i9023
- wiped data after flashing, thats what it said to do, i thought it was strange but i went along with it.
- wiped cache
- reboot
- now doesnt work.
Take it to the store where you purchased and claim ignorance!
Hi XDA,
I've been playing around with my phone, all was fine until I downloaded SGS4Flasher from the play store and flashed something onto my phone. Since then, It's been mayhem to get back right again.
I installed a new PIT file, this seemed to fix the problem I had. I then installed OTA updates, which has changed my device Baseband version to i9505xxuemj7 from i9505xxubmga.
I used to be running android 4.2.2, but from simply installing Cyanogenmod through recovery, my phone could run Android 4.3.
Now my phone is running as normal again - Except every so often it'll crash and then get stuck in the bootloop, so I have to remove my battery and give it a few minutes before re-inserting and powering on my device for it to work properly. This means I cannot play games, tether my internet for too long etc. It's rather frustrating having such a nice phone yet not being able to use it.
Due to being new at this, I've kinda put up with the problem for a little while now - But its getting ridiculous now.
Can someone help me, I'm not good with all the terms of PDA, CSC etc - I'd like to be explain to taught what to do in plain black and white please, I know this can be daunting and frustrating, but so is this problem of mine that I've caused.
If you need any more information than what I have provided please just ask.
I'm from the UK and I'm using a pay monthly sim from Vodafone.
I am using the i9505 device with qualcomm processor - Jfltexx
If anything, I don't care about android 4.2.2 or android 4.3, they both seemed decent enough to me, but ROM wise, I absolutely loved Cyanogenmod. But anything that'll make my phone work without crashing, please help.
Do I need to find a new Kernel? PIT? I'm not sure what to call it? CSC? PDA?
All I'm used to is booting my phone into recovery mode, choosing install, and then choosing Cyanogenmod from my SD_CARD.
I've used ODIN before to do something with files, following tutorials from the internet - I think this was ROOTING Clockword Recovery Mod, or TeamWIN RP or something? I believe these are the files that make the RECOVERY mode on my phone that allows me to install Cyanogenmod through my SD Card.
Please simplify this as much as possible for me, even if it comes across as insulting ... an A B C guide would be appreciated highly.
Thanks,
So you do have this issues with Cyanogenmod and with the stock rom? I've had similair issues when my battery was malfunctioning. Can you check with a different battery?

The phone is virtually brand new - I'll get another battery yes, but It wont be the exact same one that comes with the device - It'll probably be a cheap Chinese make from Ebay for about £5.
The battery has been acting strange, and I'm not sure if its just me or not, but the battery feels sorta swelled as opposed to being completely flat.
I'd have thought It'd be an issue with the software/firmware seeing as that was what I had been messing around with.
I never had the problem with cyanogenmod, but cyanogenmod was before I started playing with things I shouldn't have.
Yes, its a common problem with the S4 that the battery becomes damaged. I think that if you replace your battery your phone will be working again. Because a swollen battery is a damaged one.
You could also claim warranty for your battery. Samsung already stated that some S4 were shipped with faulty baterys and that they will replace them for free.

Even though I've now voided my knox warranty?
Yes even then. I think you will only have to send the battery in to Samsung
And besides, I see you live in the UK. Under European Law the shop has to replace the battery for you and rooting etc does never void your rights.
Hi,
Not sure what is happening to my phone. I have had stock 4.2.2 rooted with CF auto root for months and had no problems. A few weeks ago my phone started to randomly shut down, not properly just complete power off in an instant. It would then start to reboot and get to the Samsung S4 logo screen before powering off again and trying to reboot and then gets stuck in a constant loop. At first I was able to just reinstall CF root with Odin and it would start up OK. I could also get it to start by re-installing Philz recovery.
Now though, that doesn't work so this morning I installed JB 4.3 I9505XXUEMK8-PRE-ROOTED-KNOX-FREE-ODEX-FULL.tar.MD5 and it says that it is rooted and everything seems to be OK but after an hour or so it has started to randomly shut down again. If I attempt to go into recovery (stock) and clear the cache partition it will reboot normally and run for a while until I use an app and do it again. Am I doing something wrong here or is my phone just knackered?

Maybe is coz the RAM is overloaded. Take a look in:
- Press HOME button for 2 secs
- U will see 3 icons in the bottom. Click on the "cheese"
- Tab "RAM"
- If ur phone use more of 1 GB of RAM for run ur apps maybe will be time of delete bloatware
I had the same problem in GT-I9500, I had to get it repaired in a service center.
There was a problem with mother board to charger port connection..
Hope it helps you!

If u wanna try to recover some RAM u can delete some bloatware that u dont use. Tc with what u delete. I let u some info about if u wanna try -> HERE
I have this problem, I swear it is because of the dodgy battery. (I have the BD battery)
When I plug it in to charge all works again properly.
Last night my battery was showing in the high 60's the phone went off. When I put charger in the battery was at 3%!
Very annoying, going to take to Geek Squad tonight and see if they wil lreplace battery. Guy here at work has same phone, different battery derial number and no problems at all.
Hopefully they will change the battery, I don't have any paperwork with me but the phone is obviously within the 1 year warrenty.

Interesting. I have noticed a couple of times when I look at the battery stats that it has drained from say 90% to 3% in less than 1min, just a verticle line. When I plug it in to charge it says that it's at 90% or whatever it was. Other times it needs charging and is almost dead. It's as though it has shorted out. I wonder if that is the problem here.

Same Issue
I have the same problem with my I9505
- It shuts down randomly (sometimes you see a few seconds in advance that your connection to the mobile antennas disconnects), when you look at it, in the middle of a phonecall, ... whenever it's nog plugged in to the power of external battery
- It's almost impossible to get it powered on again (gets stuck in a loop of rebooting: most times at the Samsung logo or after it's on for a few seconds), unless you connect your charger that is connected to the powergrid or external battery
- sometimes it resets the phonelanguage to default (so in stead of for example Dutch, everything is in English again)
I just cleared the cache and removed some programs...
Fingers crossed
--> I'll give an update if anything changes

I've tried that as well. Didn't work. The problem you describe is exactly the problem I have. I have ordered another battery but I don't think it's that. I'll let you know if it is. I hadn't noticed that it always boots OK if it is plugged into the mains. Wish I knew what was causing the problems.
Random Shutdown and boot loop
So I think I am finally getting somewhere. I took this screenshot straight after it shut down and got stuck in a boot loop. So I plugged it into the mains and it started OK. The battery just gives up when i stress the device with a hungry app or when booting which causes a heavy drain on the on the power even when its got a healthy charge. Got a new battery on order. Take a look at the screenshot. You can see the battery instantaneously drops to zero charge until it's re-booted on the mains.

in the list I forgot to mention that the known wifi's are also wiped. --> you have to connect to them again...
I too am having this exact problem; I'm glad to hear it is not only me, not that it helps any of us.
I posted in another thread, but the symptoms everyone here are describing are exactly what I am seeing:
- Sudden battery drop from anything (it's happened to me before about 5 minutes after unplugging from the wall socket) to zero; then phone goes into a loop unless I plug it back into the mains socket
- When plugging into the mains socket with this issue, sometimes the battery is empty and sometimes it shoots straight back up to where it was
- Plants Vs Zombies 2 is the sure-fire way for me to reproduce this issue
- examined logs (although not sure if the right one) using CatLog; nothing obvious (in fact the last line on one of the logs is litterally cut halfway through)
- Wifi connection details lost occasionally
I have reflashed about 4 other (4.3) ROMs (and I tried a 4.4 GE one too) and they all seem to do the same; I am wondering if it is something to do with the non-Knox modems required to flash the 4.3 ROMs as I don't think I had this problem before updating to 4.3. I don't have the time or patience to revert back to a 4.2 ROM to test this though.
I can go for a couple of days without this happening, but fire up PvZ2 and here we go again.
I too have a new battery on order (allegedly genuine from a well-known auction site), so I will update this thread when that arrives to see if it makes any difference.
I don't like this post for one reason.... it means that the problem I am facing won't solve with a format and a new fresh flash... :crying:
I was spending some time on XDA searching for a good stable firmware to flash because I am having your exactly same issues on my phone... I just tought my phone got a bit messy because I have 130 apps installed and a lot of stuff on it.. so I was just thinking of solving all my problems with a new rom... but then I found this 3d...
So you are telling me that my problem won't get solved so easely? How am I going to deal with a Phone that randomly shuts up??? I need my phone and over the last week it got always worse.. first it shut up at about 5pm.. (at ca 15% charge) then at 3pm and 50% charge... today it shut up at 11am and 80% charge... soon I won't be able to use my phone at all!!
I'm happy I backed up all my data today, but it still doesn't solve my problem since I really need my phone... :crying:
This evening I'm going to flash anyway... let's see what happens..
PS I own a GT-I9505 with 4.2.2 stock rom (root)

Sorry to hear there's a few more out there with the same problem that I am having. AhHm... Sorry, WAS having. I tried re-flashing all sorts of ROMS from 4.2.2 to Echoe KitKat 4.4, flashed CF Root, reinstalled philz touch recovery god knows how many times all to no avail. I now know that it is nothing to do with your ROM or phone setup. It's Samsungs crappy battery. As soon as I put in my new battery problems solved. I have been running multi-window apps whilst having FB on in the background and watching a film all at the same time. If this was gonna crash it would have done by now.
Problem solved. Don't buy the cheap SPB £9.99 one on ebay it has lots of bad reviews. I got this one with no problems:

And the thing I hate most is that a 500€ phone shouldn't be dying after just some months!

If you look at the battery you will notice that it is a little "bumped" and not perfectly flat...

Yeah I found that out tonight also. I called samsung earlier today and they said if it is less than 2 years old they will repair it and I should send it to them. I have flashed so many ROMS since I purchased it last year and one or two with Knox which as we know registers that it has had a custom download which voids the warrantee so I thought it would be a waste of time sending it to them. Also I need my phone for work so it was easier to purchase a new battery.

Hi,
Do you have a link to the info? was it on an official samsung site?
