[i9505] Help needed - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi XDA,
I've been playing around with my phone, all was fine until I downloaded SGS4Flasher from the play store and flashed something onto my phone. Since then, It's been mayhem to get back right again.
I installed a new PIT file, this seemed to fix the problem I had. I then installed OTA updates, which has changed my device Baseband version to i9505xxuemj7 from i9505xxubmga.
I used to be running android 4.2.2, but from simply installing Cyanogenmod through recovery, my phone could run Android 4.3.
Now my phone is running as normal again - Except every so often it'll crash and then get stuck in the bootloop, so I have to remove my battery and give it a few minutes before re-inserting and powering on my device for it to work properly. This means I cannot play games, tether my internet for too long etc. It's rather frustrating having such a nice phone yet not being able to use it.
Due to being new at this, I've kinda put up with the problem for a little while now - But its getting ridiculous now.
Can someone help me, I'm not good with all the terms of PDA, CSC etc - I'd like to be explain to taught what to do in plain black and white please, I know this can be daunting and frustrating, but so is this problem of mine that I've caused.
If you need any more information than what I have provided please just ask.
I'm from the UK and I'm using a pay monthly sim from Vodafone.
I am using the i9505 device with qualcomm processor - Jfltexx
If anything, I don't care about android 4.2.2 or android 4.3, they both seemed decent enough to me, but ROM wise, I absolutely loved Cyanogenmod. But anything that'll make my phone work without crashing, please help.
Do I need to find a new Kernel? PIT? I'm not sure what to call it? CSC? PDA?
All I'm used to is booting my phone into recovery mode, choosing install, and then choosing Cyanogenmod from my SD_CARD.
I've used ODIN before to do something with files, following tutorials from the internet - I think this was ROOTING Clockword Recovery Mod, or TeamWIN RP or something? I believe these are the files that make the RECOVERY mode on my phone that allows me to install Cyanogenmod through my SD Card.
Please simplify this as much as possible for me, even if it comes across as insulting ... an A B C guide would be appreciated highly.
Thanks,

So you do have this issues with Cyanogenmod and with the stock rom? I've had similair issues when my battery was malfunctioning. Can you check with a different battery?

The phone is virtually brand new - I'll get another battery yes, but It wont be the exact same one that comes with the device - It'll probably be a cheap Chinese make from Ebay for about £5.
The battery has been acting strange, and I'm not sure if its just me or not, but the battery feels sorta swelled as opposed to being completely flat.
I'd have thought It'd be an issue with the software/firmware seeing as that was what I had been messing around with.
I never had the problem with cyanogenmod, but cyanogenmod was before I started playing with things I shouldn't have.

Yes, its a common problem with the S4 that the battery becomes damaged. I think that if you replace your battery your phone will be working again. Because a swollen battery is a damaged one.
You could also claim warranty for your battery. Samsung already stated that some S4 were shipped with faulty baterys and that they will replace them for free.

Even though I've now voided my knox warranty?

Yes even then. I think you will only have to send the battery in to Samsung
And besides, I see you live in the UK. Under European Law the shop has to replace the battery for you and rooting etc does never void your rights.

[Q] Battery drain & Power off problem

I recently bought Samsung Focus from eBay. It has two problems. First, its battery has huge drain. It don't even last for a day. Secondly, there's problem with power functionality. Whenever I power it off it automatically reboots itself instead of powering off. I did hard reset as well but the problems are still there.
You might want to explain a couple of more details like if you are trying to power the focus off while charging it will turn right back on. Also, you can try the official roms located in the in the development section and reflash the rom. In the about section what version of wp7 are you running ie. nodo, pre nodo, mango beta. Also, did you do a full reset in the settings section, through the diagnosis app? You might want to try a full recovery through the diagnosis app. Instructions are in the diagnosis codes thread stickied in the Focus general section.
Also would be helpful if you gave a few details about the condition. New? Used?
I'm going to guess used.
The original owner may have improperly charged the battery all the time. Solution? Buy a new battery. They're pretty cheap. Be sure to look for Samsung Galaxy S batteries as well, since they're the same batteries as the Focus.
If it were me, I would start by flashing the original ROM on the website... you never know what the original owner did, maybe he/she improperly tried to hack the phone and did something.
After flashing so you know you are dealing with a fresh install I would disable wireless/Bluetooth if you do not use them regularly, I would then suggest getting a new battery as already stated.
It's used phone. It becomes warm even in sleep mode. I guess it keeps on consuming battery. And instead of powering off it reboots, even if not plugged to charger or pc.
I think you guys are right; I should try reflashing it. But I never did this thing before. Will it go back to original state, like when it was locked to at&t?

The reboot instead of power off isn't normal.
I can think of 2 things to try:
- Find someone with a Focus and try their battery in your phone (also your battery in theirs)
- Reflash
I can vouch it will stay unlocked, the flash doesn't affect NCK (network lock) - I had to do the same as you
GL and I hope it's not hardware.
Thanks guys for you guidance, but unfortunately even after reflashing I still have those issues.
I used "Samsung i917 Focus firmware UCJK2 AT&T USA" to reflash my phone. The phone has gone back to 7004 state but the problems are still there.
Do you think I should do reflashing with "Samsung i917 Focus firmware UCJK3 ATT USA 4K" this time?
I'm going to buy new battery to see if the new one works. But what do you think, is problem with powering functionality?
Thanks.

I think you should try to go warranty on this. If the board/power adapter assembly is bad, you would just waste more money on this by buying another battery. That's why I suggested find someone to swap batteries for a day.
Reflashing with another Rom isn't going to change much and will just take more time, as this is clearly a hardware issue, this is clear by now.
Maybe drop in a AT&T store and ask for some help? They might know this issue and provide more help...

Something's wrong with my Galaxy S4, but what?

I hope someone can help explain my S4's odd behavior. I'll try to be brief but give enough details for the experts to get an idea.
- The phone discharges to about 30% and then either turns off or starts to bootloop or just behaves weirdly by closing processes and apps making it unusable
- Once fully charged, it'll finally boot again almost normally but first I have to go into recovery and wipe partition and after various attempts it'll finally boot. Its behavior will be normal and everything will function perfectly well until it goes back down to about 30% charge again
- There are 2 things to rule-out: battery and rom. The battery is brand new and 100% original because I've already changed it thinking that it was the culprit. I'm currently using AOSP 4.4 rom but the behavior is the same with any rom even stock roms
- I can't get it serviced because thanks to the new bootloader my warranty is void
Any suggestions?
USB board/port. Replace it first. Given it's quick/cheap/easy to do on the S2, I think you'll find it's the same on the S4. Search online & here for details/the service manuals which might be useful. You could also pay a local mobile repair shop to do it, but why pay them 3-5x (or more) what the part costs in labour to do it when you can do it yourself ?
Thanks! Will try that and will def do it myself:good:. Am pretty familiar with hardware. I too think at this stage that it's a hardware issue

Just out of curiosity, why do you think it's the usb port? I have to say that it crossed my mind once as well because on a few rare occasions I had problems charging my phone as if the usb cable or port was defective. My PC at times has also had problems recognizing my galaxy when plugged in, but only very rarely so I didn't make much of it
The charging issues you've had, another battery not solving those issues, and the auto shutdowns/auto bootloops for no reason have always been symptomatic of the USB board/port on the fritz on the S2 and the S3 (saw so many of these in S2 Q&A this year particularly), just sounds a lot like it. Put it this way, if it's not, it's something much worse hardware-wise, but I think you'll find the easy fix will resolve it in this case.

My 910S appears as a 910F + battery draining problems

I've just bought a new Note 4, under settings and system it says it's the n910F version, but cpu-z says the bootloader is N910SKSU2COL1. If I boot it in safe mode (home button + volume up + power), it's says
Android system recovery <3e>
LMY47X.N910SKSU2C0J4
recovery mode (home button + volume down + power) gives me the warning in korean language then states product name as SM-N910S
Also, and what bothers me the most is that I have a huge battery drain on the phone. I tried wiping the cache and hard resetting the fone for the 4th time now, still getting a massive battery drain doing basically nothing. I've just lost 15% in less than 40 minutes from a 100% charge. My guess is that the phone was "badly" updated from KitKat to Lollipop (KNOX warranty void is on 1, and i can't get the OTA update for Marshmallow).
I would like to update it to 6.0.1 (or again to 5.1.1 myself) to see it that fixes the problem, but I am not sure how to do it since my case is a little bit "particular" if i may say so.
I come from an iphone, so any help would be extremely appreciated, I am completely lost.
Thanks
PS : can't find the option to attach screenshots of my settings and battery.

My advice Dont flash anything just use as it is otherwise you will lose what you have.
Long story short i bought also n910c and in download mode and cpuz says n910s but when i bought it was running marshmallow n910c firmware and it runs smooth so i didn't flash anything cuz if i flash original n910s firmware I'll lose 4g and there will be no option in settings to switch beetween 4g/3g/2g and it will show roaming signal all the time and also n910s firmware included korean bloatware apps that i dont want.
I am also stuck on june marshmallow update i can't update anymore.but still working very stable.my knox is also void but who cares about useless knox.
Try another battery cuz i think mine is just fine give me about 4+hours screen on time .maybe yours is not orignal or low class battery.

You can update to Marshallow if you flash n910s official firmware but trust me you will hate it and regret.
My best suggestions will be sell it and get rid of it and get another model.

Actually i went back to the store i bought it from, and they are all like this (N910S or V models appearing as N910F). To make things worse, even the labels under the batteries say N910F
The worst part being that horrible battery drain.

The 1 shows n910f everywhere They are all refurbished
They can fake everything but not motherboard thats y in download mode your still shows n910s
Mine shows everywhere n910s even under the battery but the software only show n910c.cuz not refurbished
only they change software for multiple languages and 4g unlocking.
Check your battery if there is a chip kind of thing under the battery it self
Thats a chip for nfc and fast charge i beleive if it's not there then definitely your battery is fake.

I know about the NFC chip in the battery. The one they gave me at first had nothing. I bought an OEM battery with the NFC chip, but still has the battery drain issue. This is giving me headaches...

Try this trick
Completely empty your battery to 0% until phone shutdown automatically
Then try to power on again if still have some charge left make it empty.
Then charge full to 100% while phone is turned off.
Unplug Then turn on phone it will be 98 or 99% plug in again and leave in charge for 15min.
Try this trick for 3 or 4 charges it will solve the battery issue and dont let phone heat up a lot it drains battery lot faster in any device.

Already left it empty itself to zero this afternoon. Charged it back to 100% (took around 5 hours!!), wiped cache, factory reset, then lost 15% in around 30 minutes just setting it up (only installed cpu z, phone info and genuine galaxy. The rest was downloading the updates for the pre-installed apps, through wifi). I'll try what you said, but knowing that upgrading the phone to marshmallow will basically break it makes me pretty upset. Maybe i'll try to get a refund.

I'll try tomorrow, but they policy is replacement, no refund. I don't wan't another refurbished model with the same problems.
Another question : my bootloader and csc versions match the korean model, but not the pda, which apparently dosen't even exist (N910FXXU2COL1). Is it custom or something? How do they do that?

They do through a dongle box called z3x or octopus this boxes they use to unlock sim for any device and fake the firmware.
Trust me the pda version is n910s also but its modefied and masked to n910f via this box .
Anyway they do stuff for all brands not just samsung.
1 of my friend bought note 3 sm-n9005 but i check the motherboard it was n900p sprint.i didn't tell him cuz he dont actually got any knowledge about this stuff he use as a simple smart phone.and he is very happy with it
More you know about flashing and rooting more you will mess up with the phone.

Got a refund. Found a 910F with matching everything (pda, csc...). Slightly pricier, but if that gets me rid of the OTA upgrade and battery drain issue, that's good for me.
I WILL end up messing up with my phone, just not right now.

Yes it did. I'll get it myself on monday, i'll take more time to double check everything before leaving the shop.
Good decision to get rid of this phone, sadly its getting more and more difficult to find second hand original phones as the market is flooded with refurbished phones from China. Its big business there...
Bought a Note 2 - brand new in its sealed box etc for my wife. Turned out to be a refurbished phone. I did not know and was concerned I was buying a clone...sadly its not a clone but a rebuild phone with cheap imitation parts.

Exactly. Went to 3 different stores to find that all the units they are selling, while appearing cosmetically new, are actually refurbished Korean version flashed to appear as international (even the label under the battery had been replaced).

Hello, I know this thread is probably dead but internet doesn't die, I need this exact version of software..why?
Well I have been using a note 4 for a very long time and the motherboard got a problem and I took it to the repair guy to change, but he put exactly this type of motherboard software with the exact problems as yours ( it only gets 3G/4G when there enough network and can't use it at home and yet my previous board was working flawlessly), at first i thought it's because of software being outdated (5.1.1) but nothing got solved even after updating, tried different custom Rom like nemesis refined but didn't solve the problem so I decided to take it back, now this guy is claiming it was working very well and for me to get a replacement I must put back the software that was there, by that he means the new softwares I put spoiled the network so my problem I was very stupid, I didn't make a back up before flashing new Rom, so please anyone who can provide a link where I can download this Rom, or someone with it to upload for me please am desperate. ( it's PDA version doesnt exist on sammobile but it appears they normally put it on refurbished phone like cloning the software of N910S to appear as N910F .Thanks

phone died, need some advice before buying new motherboard

hi there
i want to be sure that my mobo is dead, so i'll describe my situation and hope that someone in here will help me to revive my precious note4.
my phone worked just fine until 2 weeks ago, then it started to bootloop whenever it got too hot and got back to normal state after being shut down for a few minutes.
i never got any emmc errors, so i figured out that maybe a fresh start would help. it had MM already, so i flashed it with the latest firmware i could find (N910FXXU1DRF1) and wiped it... the phone worked after this, but the problem wasn't fixed, and unfortunately, it died the day after.
now (and for the last whole week) i cant turn it on no matter what, and even when pluging chargers to the phone it doesnt respond. i've tried using another battery, but it didnt help (also, the battery works fine with other phones).
i've tried to get into download mode/recovery, but... no respond to that either. pressing the power button for long periods with and without the battery also had no impact.
btw, the phone would usually got hot on the top-right area of the screen, where the sd-card should be placed. (and i dont use an sd-card)
any help, advice or diagnosis will be welcomed
It looks like eMMC problem - he ded - do some more reading just to make sure that this is the case.
If you want a new motherboard, here are the options:
a. 910F or any similar Snapdragon - u don't know how long it's gonna last + AOSP ROM's up to Android 8 (for now).
b. 910A - bootloader locked - afaik is not possible to get a custom recovery & custom ROM, but I might be wrong + plus above
c. 910C or any Exynos - forum still active with solid options for custom ROM's - even a 7.0 TouchWizz ROM - go check it.
If you have $$$ go for another more recent phone. If you don't have money for a more recent phone (new or second hand) then - if I'll be you - I would choose the Exynos (910C) motherboard.
The only problem is - good, reliable source for the motherboard.
I have a 910C - it's rock solid and very happy with it.
Any decision is totally yours, read and learn so that you can live with the consequences of your freedom to choose what's best for you. Please, don't blame me for it afterwards.

note 4 died. good battery.rooted.service did nothing since it was rooted

so, this phone died for me in 2017, and have been in a drawer since then. then i thought why not ask. so long story short if i remember correctly: bought it new. i rooted it since all the cool kids do that. then i did some update i think. and then in the winter of 2017 in beginning it just started behaving weirdly for me and then it turned off and all kinds of shenanigans. cant restart using different methods, sometimes it blinks, sometimes that bios menu comes up. blabla. so i tried to send it to the local repairshop that the seller used. but since i had it rooted they refused to fix it. so now i have a phone that costed 600 euro + 70 euro in service cost and it doesnt work. and then its been in a drawer since then.
i took it out, had it and the battery in a freezer for a while like some has said on internet didnt work.
anyway. does anyone here know any tips? if i want to flash the room can that be possible? or is this a lost cause? was this a common problem with note 4? i loved it and it crushed my heart when it stopped working. i still have a few months of pics etc on it from back then that ive never been able to get out. i attached it to the computer now and the computer makes a sound but nothing more.
any tips?

Sounds to me like either dead emmc or misconnection.
If it's just? misconnection there are tips (increasing the pressure by cardboard).
Can you access download mode?
Sometimes it shows there "dead emmc".
I somewhere read about a testing app.
Gotta search.
Where in Europe are you?
In the German Android-hilfe forum there is a member who fixes that.
Either exchanging the emmc or resoldering it.
If the chip is dead probably the data are lost.
afaik flashing the stock ROM deletes data.
It's a known problem, yes.

Excellent feedback and assessment @bmwdroid . Thank you for sharing.
I only wish to add that there is a way to flash Samsung firmware while keeping user data. Of course, this method wouldn't be effective when it comes to emmc hardware failure so Im posting it for general information purposes only.
If you have downloaded the firmware for your Samsung Galaxy device you’ll find 2 CSC binaries with *.tar.md5*extension (namely CSC and Home_CSC ) inside along with BL, AP, and CP.*CSC*and*HOME_CSC*are necessary for different purposes, and you have to choose one or the other depending on your goal.
CSC –*If you flash the CSC file, it’ll perform a*factory reset*of your Galaxy device and wipe all data while installing a new firmware to bring your device to the same*state as it was when you purchased it. Go with CSC if you want a*clean installation.
HOME_CSC*–* On the other hand, if you want to*keep your Samsung phone’s data and settings*even flashing the stock firmware, you can select the HOME_CSC file.
