I've been going around parading Dolphin being a viable option on the Snapdragon 600 model of the Galaxy S4 since it is the first device that will release with OpenGL ES 3 video drivers.
I want to know everyone's opinion. Do you think the Galaxy S4 will be capable of emulating the Gamecube and Wii?
Youtube video below shows the HTC Droid DNA emulating Super Smash Brothers Melee, although it is emulating the graphics on the CPU due to no OpenGL ES 3 drivers.
What do you think Internet?
Why not? Probably easier to ask the emulator devs on their forums though.

Well. I'm actually the developer working on porting Dolphin to ARM devices.
I'm more looking for public feedback on what people think about it.
With that gamepad my GS4 will be an emulation machine...
This makes me look forward to it even more.

Where did you read this? PowerVR544MP3 won't be able to support OpenGL ES 3.
A Imagination Technologies representative was last heard saying that they will be able to backport "most" features of OpenGL ES 3 to current PowerVR hardware. Most doesn't mean very much when we make use of quite a few things from OpenGL ES 3.

Yeah right ,just a set of features, overlooked the important part!:silly:
The second part is some news about a subset of OpenGL ES 3.0 features that will be enabled retroactively on all PowerVR*Series5XT hardware. The entire lineup apparently has the hardware to enable these OpenGL ES 3.0 features as an optional extension inside OpenGL ES 2.0. Features include*multiple render targets; occlusion queries; seamless cube maps; sampler access from vertex shaders; floating point textures; GLSL full-precision floating point; R and RG textures; min/max blends; and multisample render buffers.*

I'd pay for that if that's what you are asking. You should start a donation pledge of some sorts. I'd give you $10 just for your work.
I do actually have a donation pledge going to get my hands on a Galaxy S4 with the drivers to work with.
I just can't post the link since my lack of posts make it so I can't
It's currently on our forums at Dolphin-emu.org, in General Discussion, under "Donations for Dolphin Android development"

As for my forum thread that talks about me asking for donations for a Samsung Galaxy S4, that is below.
http://forums.dolphin-emu.org/Thread-green-notice-development-thread-donations-for-dolphin-android-development
Emulation of my favorite console games is a huge part of my decision to use Android phones. Screw angry birds, I'll play Chrono Trigger or the original LoZ.
The more generations of consoles we have, the better. I'd love to see a functional PS 1 and 2 emu...
Duely blundered from my thunderdolt.
I've released the pre-alpha APK with some more information on the Dolphin-emu forum thread with some caveats to understand.
Hopefully a wide audience feels like playing with it.

I don't know about the Gamecube, but I highly doubt that the current generation of phones will be able to emulate the Wii.
Interesting thing we've found when emulating the Wii is that most games(not all) tend to idle the CPU way more than on the Gamecube, so we can optimize that out. They tend to be heavier on the GPU than the CPU. The biggest limitation on these phones is really the GPU since they are only like <10% as quick as a reasonable Nvidia desktop card.

WOW awesome cant wait for this
well my quadrant is faster, but nenamark not.
I have a HTC with android 2.2 and a moto milestone 2.2, one with snapdragon and one with omap. I would be pleased to test some. Also the milestone has a keyboard and a dpad so it would be nice to test that?

Windows Phone compatable ?
Man I miss the dreamcast, awsome games for it's time. A system that died way before it's day.
Simply Wow
This is the most imperssive thing I have seen for this phone so far - lots of LONG RPG's for DC. This really will fill my time up nicely.
What a shame there was never a bluetooth Dc controller!
I am one of the testers for drk|Raziel.. He is "tired" for now. Unfortuantely he doesnt seem to want to work on it further and he hasnt given indication he will release source code made after 2006(the source that is out now). The android port was based off of the psp port. Its sad, but the emu may never be completed :| I have tried to get zotdd and yongzh to start on it perhaps or maybe drk can release the source code of what he has completed as of now. There is however, work on a Gamecube/Wii emu for android right now.
This has much potential.
ZOMG I would DIEEEE for a Dreamcast emulator!!
I remember saving up all my hard earned cash back in highschool and spending hours searching for free DUNs to play PSO (at night of course, we only have 1 phone line!). STRONG NOSTALGIA!!!
I still have my DC and a ton of games but it's so painful at the same time. It was such a beautiful console that never got the love it deserved. It died long before it's time and it's a crying shame. I never felt so passionate for a console, especially because of how it emulated NES, SNES and Genesis games so beautifully.
I would walk all over my mother to see a fully functioning Dreamcast emulator.... although I'm sure the developer would probably appreciate a donation instead LOL

"Android 3.0 is a new version of the Android platform that is specifically optimized for devices with larger screen sizes, particularly tablets."
See
http://android-developers.blogspot.com/2011/01/android-30-platform-preview-and-updated.html
and
http://developer.android.com/sdk/android-3.0-highlights.html
Would love to see this on our Archos gen8 devices, but I guess that is unlikely...
Here are some of the highlights:
UI framework for creating great apps for larger screen devices: Developers can use a new UI components, new themes, richer widgets and notifications, drag and drop, and other new features to create rich and engaging apps for users on larger screen devices.
High-performance 2D and 3D graphics: A new property-based animation framework lets developers add great visual effects to their apps. A built-in GL renderer lets developers request hardware-acceleration of common 2D rendering operations in their apps, across the entire app or only in specific activities or views. For adding rich 3D scenes, developers take advantage of a new 3D graphics engine called Renderscript.
Support for multicore processor architectures: Android 3.0 is optimized to run on either single- or dual-core processors, so that applications run with the best possible performance.
Rich multimedia: New multimedia features such as HTTP Live streaming support, a pluggable DRM framework, and easy media file transfer through MTP/PTP, give developers new ways to bring rich content to users.
New types of connectivity: New APIs for Bluetooth A2DP and HSP let applications offer audio streaming and headset control. Support for Bluetooth insecure socket connection lets applications connect to simple devices that may not have a user interface.
Enhancements for enterprise: New administrative policies, such as for encrypted storage and password expiration, help enterprise administrators manage devices more effectively.

Those must be recommended specs I read. Still if that is what is recommended then it may have a hard time without it being rooted.
We've got ample processing power & 3D power to run honeycomb. The question will be : will Archos do their homework ? (their track record is not so good) and if not then will there be a community driven effort to build one.
"Support for multicore processor architectures: Android 3.0 is optimized to run on either single- or dual-core processors, so that applications run with the best possible performance." - that clearly implies the ability to run it on a single core processor.

Well, on the emulator it is awfully slow, but that's true with 2.2 too. Included Apps are:
Browser, Calculator, Camera, Clock, Contacts, Custom Locale, Dev Tools, Downloads, Email, Gallery, Messaging, Music, Search, Settings, Spare Parts (!), Speech Recording.
Got quite a few launcher restarts when using it, maybe giving the emulator only 256MiByte RAM (as Archos Gen8) might be too few to work with.
From what I've heard, the emulator is slow regardless.
hope there will be an update to 3.0 for archos 101,but is the hardware powerful enough to run it?

Somebody already has it somewhat working on the Nook Color which is less powerful than the Archos. Here is the thread:

I wish I had the skills to do this myself or I would. Ah well, since it is working on one, maybe somebody will take the time to get it running on the Archos. I doubt Archos will, they will save it for Gen 9. They will probably release a 2.3 release though.

There are Galaxy S II variants for International market. I9101 is NFC-enabled while I9103 is Tegra 2-based. So, which one will get the most of the development here? It's soooo important for me. I see that Galaxy SL has very little attention from devs. So, I don't want to be on a loser's side. Or is it not gonna be like Galaxy S/SL?
I think active contributors are also early users, the i9100 should be a good base. Anyway, the nfc ver. is very similar. The tegra based will be less followed I think.

I think that developers will focus more on the I9100 as its the first version to get release in the UK. the NFC version shouldn't be that much of a difference the tegra 2 will get less attention.

Technically NFC is only difference between I9100 and I9101, so same development can be applied.. for Tegra 2 version, all CPU development will be bit different.. Gamer lovers will like tigra 2(though I9100 is better for all non-Tegra games).. most Devs are into Roms, themes, root, overclock.. so for me I9100 is safe bet

The I9103 with its Tegra 2 chip should run existing software that is tailored for Tegra 2. Since there is huge backing behind Tegra 2, the I9103 is not really getting less attention.

errr, nope, Gameloft has never done any "Tegra 2 only" games that I'm aware of, so all their games will probably be updated to support Exynos eventually.
I think "many" referred to the games which are supposed to run only on Tegra 2 devices like Samurai Revenge 2 HD, Pinball HD, or Guerilla Bob THD, but which work perfectly on Exynos once you use the appropriate drivers, proving that the "Tegra 2 optimised" is just marketting and a software lock.
Just wanted to make that clear, but actually I agree that most games will probably be optimised for Tegra 2 since it will be the most common platform. (Also Xperia play seems to have lots of games designed for it... I guess it's good news for those who are stuck on single core/Adreno 205 phones...)
I9101 is going to be powered by TI OMAP 4430 after all (source: GSMArena).

We in Croatia are getting the Tegra version and it does indeed have a Super Amoled+ diplay. Still it's only clocked at 1.0 Ghz compared to the 1.2 Ghz of the Exynos
I think its way too early to suggest any particular variant will get more dev, i have to say though that I don't think we know which chipset the NFC version will have though either.
It will ultimately depend on which phones hits the devs hands and that will probably be determined by region and quantity rather that who got which first first and what chipset it is running.
We are just going to have to see, but also hope that some of the dev is interchangeable between handsets with a few minor tweaks.

What SoC are you using?
The SoC is a Broadcom BCM2835. This contains an ARM1176JZFS, with floating point, running at 700Mhz, and a Videocore 4 GPU. The GPU is capable of BluRay quality playback, using H.264 at 40MBits/s. It has a fast 3D core accessed using the supplied OpenGL ES2.0 and OpenVG libraries.

Not outdated. Simply not constructed to run Android. It's an educational system for people wanting to play around with GNU/Linux compatible hardware, not a cellular phone. Still, with enough lubrication, sure you can squeeze in Android, but it's not its purpose.

Missed having THD games,Even though the Asus TF700 had so many issues,it was tegra.
? Will Exynos have a games catalog like Tegra or when would we sell those THD games coming to Exynos....
I would rather not see Exynos-specific games... would rather see games with enhanced graphics that push Exynos and other similarly powerful hardware to the limit, but also be able to play on any other device. THD/Tegra games are just some cheap selling point for hardware imo, and just bad for other devices in-general.
I bought THD versions of games and then ended up getting something with better hardware then Tegra 3, and can't even play those said THD games... it's stupid. And to top it off, I'd have to rebuy the non-THD version of those games...
I think Google have to fix their PlayStore with Apps working and All Devices, especially Nexus device...
There will be no catalog for exynos devices.
Tegra games will not work with the exynos, until the app gets updated to support it.
Some apps have exclusivity deals with nvidia, so depending on the deals and whether they are time dependant, will depend on whether they are updated to support non tegra games.
And THD apps are horrible, i have sonic Ep2 thd version for my N7 but that wont work for my N4/N10, yet it wants me to buy again the normal version so i cant even play this game on any device. Likewise i bought shadowgun for my GS3 and when i got the N7 turns out theirs a THD version for that, that i miss out on unless i buy the same game again.

If your device is rooted you can always download Chainfire 3D and set your device to Tegra and play THD games? I used to play THD games on my S2 using Chainfire 3D.

Does Chainfire 3D work with the Nexus 10? I'm trying to get Shadowgun Deadzone running at a more acceptable framerate.

It stopped working properly since ICS.
I sold the Acer A700 (Tegra 3).
My Nexus 10 is on the way.
On this picture we can see Horn.

Horn is a Tegra 3 game.
Apparently you can install it on the Nexus.
I think it doesn't work.
Has anyone tested Horn ?

it's not THD, just "optimised for T2 and T3"

I think I only get a Black screen on startup with Horn
Exclusiveness is stupidness.

I wish they're just do OPTIMIZED FOR TEGRA 3, and Exynos and etc...
Like if you have a quad core device with a top notch tegra3/4 equal GPU than you device would just get some additional code or something but this making a game THD exclusive is B.S. like it was mentioned if you have a tegra tablet n non tegra phone like me you either buy it twice or blackm rt it up.
I used chainfire, device spoofer and such to make my HP TOUCHPAD w/android able to run thd games.so as long as ya got dual core you're atleast equal to tegra2 or 3 idk....but I know my touchpad which is liken to ipad2 could handle thd apps. Not all but most.
And w/ dead trigger if you change some number in a file you can make it use thd enhanced features, the water running down screen n blood I believe. I did it on my gnex-toro.
I have nex7 and love it Peerfect for gaming. Like a touchscreen.controller, I wanna get those stickies you can put over on-screen buttons for a more actual feel. I know we can use ps3 controller or oth 3rd party android bt ones. But I like touchscreen. And holding my game up close.
I sold my ps3 cause I mostly play on my gnex, touchpad, ipad4, nexus7 I really see the ps4 generation being the last console generation.
THD is a blight on the Play Store, introducing fragmentation for no good reason other than corporate greed. It introduces REAL fragmentation, compared the fake "omg why are there so many screen sizes?!?" fragmentation sites paid off by Apple seem to love pointing out. It'd be a sad day if other SoC vendors decided to follow NVidia's path, as it would really hurt Android's credibility to most consumers.
