Stock JB 4.2 .1 luncher & system UI - Transformer TF300T General

What do you think of the new 4.2.1 UI on your TF300? And since the luncher blazingly fast are you going to run third-party lunchers?

I personally don't like it. I still use old 4.1 layout.

hello, I'm back to the UI too traditional Asus for two reasons the first a purely practical and the second that I think uses less RAM and less battery

Well to be honest I don't like it neither . specially the system UI where the soft keys are in the middle and the performance mods switch is missing(I'm not sure why Asus did not fix that, it looks pretty much like the stock Android launcher ).
But I feel I should get used to it since feature update of Android would probably be similar and I don't want to fall behind.

Using ICS

Bad Things
-Color Scheme
-Launcher
-Error in Callender sync (only in some devices)(thanks to smashbox)(can be fixed by doing a full wipe/restore)
To Make it Good
-Use Nova Launcher (in 8x10 grid) (thanks to aletheus)
Seems somewhat more responsive than Honeycomb though (not with Touchwiz). But still testing.
The looks is according to one's taste, I suppose--I liked the (pure) ICS look on my Galaxy Nexus so have little complaints here on the 7.7, especially after I switch from Touchwiz to Nova Launcher (same on my Nexus).
Added screencap of my homescreen. (Nova Launcher, Suave HD icons, Simiclock Widget.)
I don't know what condition your tablet is, but mine is noticeably snappier.
Just like EVERY SINGLE DEVICE I HAVE UPDATED TO ICS from GB or HC base
- Nexus S
- Motorola Atrix
- Sony Tablet S
Where did you get ICS? P6800 hasn't got official ICS yet.
Update: Ok, it seems that there is a torrent with some ICS update. Need to investigate more.

Yeah, it hit the forums yesterday morning. What a great un-birthday present from samsung!!!
On topic:
I am surprised to be loving touchwiz! Its certainly not lagging, the entire device is much faster. I draw using sketchbook pro and photoshop touch, so the "force gpu rendering" under settings>development seems to have even sped up drawing capabilities. Lag is barely noticeable, whereas before it was inhibitive.
As far as colors, OP, you mean color sceme for ICS?
I'm disappointed to see color banding in gradients still, thouh it does seem a little better now...

The Austrian ICS update does have TouchWiz. It's the new look of TouchWiz 5, as also seen on the Samsung Galaxy S III. There are many new features to explore under Apps and Widgets.
I've put on forced GPU rendering. Touchwiz still seems slightly (but still noticeably) laggy, albeit less than HC

how do people deal with i/o issues

ok, so everything about this tablet is good or at least ok, not bad, EXCEPT for i/o issues which has been driving me crazy, lags when downloading, updating apps, browsing the web, downloading game files,.... anything that needs to write/read on the flash storage.
but i feel like everyone is happy with this tablet and have no complaints, don't you also have i/o issues? i'm sure you do, so is there something that i don't know that can solve this problem?

Some things you learn to live with. For example, I know not to update apps while I'm trying to do anything else. This might require that you set all of your apps not to update automatically.
Installing a custom ROM is a good start. Browser2Ram is almost a must-have. Some people have had luck with DirectoryBind to re-map Chrome's cache folder. I tried the same with Flipboard but it didn't help. So I've learned not to use Flipboard.
In the end, it's a matter of pros and cons. If you find it unbearable even with a custom ROM, a good kernel, and some tweaks, then maybe the TF300 won't satisfy your usage pattern.

I've tried just about every rom for the TF300 and Cleanrom is without a doubt the fastest. And while devs do find some ways to address the I/O problem it's never gonna go away completely.

I haven't unlocked or rooted yet so I don't have anything to compare it against, but the only bit of lag I have experienced is with the stock browser or chrome, but with either Dolphin or Boat Browser, surfing the web is really quick. With everything else that you have mentioned it has been really fast.

What can you say about hydro? I'm currently using it and haven't had any problem except stock browser is really slow and I always got the message that it's not responding? do you experience this in cleanrom or default browser is just crappy?
The stock browser is pretty crappy. Go with dolphin or boat browser as they are way smoother and load sites much faster.
One thing that might help you make a decision on Rom is whether or not you have a keyboard. I believe they only Roms that support keyboard is "stock" based. So Cyanogenmod or any AOSP Roms do not support keyboard.

TF300T will receive Android 4.3 along with several other tablets

I was just now searching for information about the new version of Android and I come up with this list: http://technosamigos.com/asus-android-4-3-jelly-bean-update-schedule/
I don't know if this is legit, but it can actually be true. Our tablet was the very first tablet to receive Android 4.1 and 4.2 after the nexus devices, and has been receiving updates quite regularly, so it wouldn't be a surprise if we got Android 4.3 this year.

fstrim will not be a magic pill. The app on the Play Store does the same thing as what will be built into Android 4.3, with the main difference being that trim is supposed to happen on a schedule. It won't do much.

Then don't use gel launcher. Use the stock one or nova beta which is themed like gel. There already threads about this. No reason to make a new one just to say it sucks. Anyways it's not meant for the nexus 10 so unless someone or Google optimizes it for our tablet it won't work well because of all the transparency

Well, you have nexus 5, you should know how fast it is running. Nexus 10 is not even close to that. It actually reminds me Samsung device bloated with touchwiz.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
Think about it this way. The device has to draw the entire screen 2 times one of those being a transparent layer while animating it... that will task any device... wouldn't be surprised to see the new N10 come out with 1080p just for this issue.. I don't think any SOC that can handle this resolution with transparency

I take my words back. After "S" update the tablet seems to back being responsive again, even with GEL launcher.
I've recently tried Note 10.1 2014 and even though it runs on latest hardware its dead slow 'cause of touchwiz overkill.
