Spica is a good phone. If you are using Outlook then you can got to import/transfer then transfer all contacts as a cvs file then go gmail click contact and then import the cvs file from your computer. Important when you save the cvs file name it Contacts.
Hope this helps.
If you're using Windows, Samsung have a PC Suite program called Kies (or something like that) which you can use to transfer contacts to and from the phone into e.g. Outlook. I don't use Windows, however, so I don't really know much about it.

first of all congrats on choosing a good phone.
I have been using this phone for the last 3 months and am bloody impressed.
Android is any day better than WM (I have used the O2 atom for quite some time, that's how i came to know about xda, was flashing was O2 with new roms every day until the sim tray broke and now it's dead meat).
The only two drawbacks of the phone are - no flash in camera, and no radio.
The touch is very good (not as good as the iPhone but better than the nokia's).
To import the contacts export them as csv or vcf and upload to your google contacts and then sync with your spica and kaboom, all your contacts are there.
where are all the spicas!
Can anyone throw some light on where can I find the phone in Mumbai or online, I have been looking for it for some time now and can't find it; no listings on ebay either.
Hi! Some of you might recognize me from the WinMo/WinPho world. I just picked up a Captivate and i'm having the same GPS issues we all are. I noticed there's a distinct lack of raw, verifiable data regarding the issue. Nearly everything is anecdotal observations.
Please do NOT post any observational data here (example: I changed xxx and yyy setting, and now my GPS works great! Tracking is spot on!) - these posts, if not based on provided raw data, will be deleted.
Please DO post raw data (lbstestmode readings, NMEA strings, sensor output, adb logcat output, My Tracks, comparisons vs. other GPS with raw data, etc.) - also, feel free to post observations based on this raw data.
[size=+2]Apps i'm using to gather this data:[/size]
[size=+1]Android Apps[/size]
LbsTestMode: Comes with just about any ROM. Use "Any Cut" from the market to make a shortcut to it, make sure your settings match those below (unless intentionally testing others) and press "Get Position Test". If you are going to post satellite signal values, it's easiest to take a photo and type the values in from the photo, as the signal strengths vary from moment to moment.
My Tracks: This google app records a track of your GPS location, updating every 1s (unless you haven't moved beyond a small threshhold) - You can then upload this data to google maps and link it as I did in post 2. Unfortunately this method does not record any NMEA data (so we can't see signal strength, etc.) But serves will to see how accurately the tracking is.
Bluetooth GPS Provider: Used along with the "Allow Mock Locations" setting in Settings - Applications - Development to allow the phone to pull location data from a tethered bluetooth GPS such as the BT338. Note that this program will show satellite signal strengths as a bar, without actual dB readings. The program listed below provides more data, but performs a bit worse over time.
Bluetooth GPS: This program provides the same functionality as the app above. However, it provides much more diagnostic data such as signal strength readings, Satellite Constellation View, and raw NMEA output.
[size=+1]PC Apps[/size]
SirfDemo: Used along with a bluetooth module to connect to my BT338 GPS on the laptop. You can see a screenshot of this app in the photo below. It also displays raw NMEA data and allows logging.
[size=+2]GPS Settings[/size]
These are the settings that i'm using for testing. If your settings vary, please post along with the data so we can have a complete picture. The ROM/Radio/Kernel you're using is important too Also note any tweaks you may have made to gps configurations (using lbstestmode, jupiter.xml, et al.)
IMPORTANT: Use the "Delete GPS Data" button in LbsTestMode immediately prior to conducting any tests, and ensure to use standalone/cold start. This will remove all cached assistance data and ensure the GPS isn't affected by external effects.

This is my test setup for the data in this post. You can see most of the output there on the screen. (I'll type it up for readability too) - There's about a 110 degree clear sky view, overcast. There is probably some minor multipath from the 2 story buildings nearby.
Phone setup is my own custom ROM (based on the recent Vibrant Froyo leak, with Cappy JH7 bits tacked on to address the various incompatibilities), JK3 baseband, Setiron 1.4.3 1200mhz kernel.

Some notes and observations:
I took 4 photos a few seconds apart from this angle to look at the signal fluctuations. You might notice Captivate1 SV 21 is an anomaly (12dB). The signal shows majorly degraded from the BT GPS and the Captivate2. Appx. 4 seconds before, the phone was getting 23dB on that satellite. The BT GPS and Captivate2 both remained at the same level (34dB, 32dB) - that might indicate some antenna issue after all, perhaps a marginal connection in some units. I'll do some more extensive comparison between these 2 units while I have them (2 or 3 days)
Here are 3 different MyTracks I took yesterday while driving: both GPS units on the dash.

[size=+2][Edit: Forgot to add, here is some data on fix times.][/size]
GPS in Standalone operation - Cold start
BT GPS - 59s
Cappy1 - 19s
Cappy2 - 16s
GPS in Standalone operation - Warm Start
BT GPS - 32s
Cappy1 - 12s
Cappy2 - 9s
GPS in AGPS operation - Hot Start
BT GPS (no AGPS, hot start only) - 3s
Cappy1 - 7s
Cappy2 - 5s
Interesting to note is that the 2 Captivates running the same software, used in the same position/enviornment, and trying to get a fix at the same time, Cappy2 consistently performs better than Cappy1. This again may point to some design-time issues with the GPS Antenna.
What software are you using to collect this data?
I'll post it in the first post, as i'm sure others will want to know too Look there shortly.
If we all post as replies to this thread that could get really cumbersome and hard to track.
Might I suggest another submission method?
Lol don't have time to do it but if you really wanted to get this done right you could code an algorithim that calculates average distance away from a street in my tracks... use that to generate a gps performance score... and use those gps performance scores to generate an average with standard deviations/ 95% confidence intervals.
That, would be so cool!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
It would be great if there was so much data to be had that it was hard to track. Right now the situation is exactly opposite of that Bring it on! We can worry about managing the flood of data later, when there is a flood of data.
The problem with calculating an average distance like that is that it won't factor in enviornmental factors. The GPS might perform great with a 110 degree sky view and minimal multipath, with a 110 degree sky view and a mountain nearby, it might go bonkers. Due to the frequency range and transmission type, GPS signals are very prone to enviornmental factors. (These same weaknesses are also their strength in being so accurate in the right enviornment)
Updated first post with info about the apps I used.
This may count as anecdotal, but...
You asked for My Tracks data... something I have noticed is that, for me at least, My Tracks wil be pretty damb accurate if running in the background, while navigation or maps can't track well I the foreground at all. In fact, even My Tracks won't do well in the foreground. Not sure what this means, but liking forward to any developments on this front.

Dam Da_G great to see you. Long time since I have worked with wm but always enjoyed making roms from your leaked builds. I will work on collecting gps data. I do onsite IT work so I will log gps all day and post back when I get a few days of data.
Good to see you too shep Re: WM, The King is dead! Long live the King
Updated post 2 with some more interesting data regarding lock times. Re: My Tracks and performance in foreground/background, i'll slate that test for tomorrow. I think you're wondering if the CPU usage may have something to do with accuracy? It's certainly possible but if most of the calculations are handled in the baseband like I think, not likely. Either way, tomorrow's test will answer that
i'm not sure if this is the data you want but i matched all lbstestmode settings as yours, and did 3 position tests, took screen shots right after sat locked.
hope this useful...

Great post, drancid. What was the enviornment like at the time? How far apart were the fix attempts? All on the same device?
I'm guessing it was indoors or with a partially blocked view of the sky?

Looks like it was just a thumbnail that uploaded. No link to a larger photo, and the text is too small to read

Since you are using the JM9 files, use Supl.google.com / 7276 to get better results
I've tried both and I get better or equal results with this config. Sometimes supl.google.com takes forever to lock on for me.
See, that is really what I would like to find out more about the GPS - why it's different for others and why it isn't consistent!

What clues can you get from seeing our signal strengths, besides that it's erratic..?
There was recently a WP7 benchmarking app called WP BENCH released in the market and I am interested to see how the stock sd card is functioning compared to the user replaced sd cards. The benchmark consists of 3 main parts. These are CPU, DATA and GPU.
Stock 16GB SD Card (NoDo)
*non typical result
CPU
Sequential: 21558*-10875 ms
Parallel: 13058*-10312 ms
Data
memory: 13.07-9.8* MB/s
storage: 3.56-0.19* MB/s
GPU
Frames: 698-666*
avg: 23-22 FPS
Here are my results. DVP unlocked 8GB NoDo Tmo USA. Base on my 5 tests, the Storage speed on test #1 is .25MB/s and the others are ~3MB/s+.
Test #1 with reboot
Sequential 10888ms, Parallel 10470ms
Memory 13.07MB/s, Storage 0.25MB/s
694 frames, avg: 23FPS
Updates:
Test #2 no reboot
Sequential 10859ms, Parallel 10404ms
Memory 13.07MB/s, Storage 3.27MB/s
676 frames, avg: 22FPS
Test #3 no reboot
Sequential 10938ms, Parallel 10414ms
Memory 13.07MB/s, Storage 3.02MB/s
689 frames, avg: 23FPS
Test #4 with reboot and #5 without reboot
results were consistant with tests #2 and #3.
My storage on DVP 8GB no-do was 3MB/s

Same here on my pre-nodo 8GB DVP.
FWIW I also tried on a stock Samsung Focus (no SD card, no updates) and got 2.6MB/s.
I have a 32GB Transcend card (upgraded 16GB model), no NoDo (OS version 7008).
CPU
Sequential : 10892

NoDo
CPU
time: 21292 ms
Sequential: 10856 ms
Parallel: 10436 ms
Data
time: 17442
memory: 13.07 MB/s
storage: 3.02 MB/s
GPU
Frames: 692
avg: 23 FPS
Did 2 runs on my stock 16gb DVP w/ NoDo
CPU
sequential: 11014, 12584 ms
parallel: 10462, 11296 ms
DATA @ 0.8 MB
memory: 13.07, 13.07 MB/s
storage: 0.09, 0.35 MB/s <-- huge variability!
GPU
699 avg 23, 692 avg 23 FPS
Installed NoDo on my 8GB and now getting 3.25MB/s pretty reliably. Pre-NoDo was 3.0MB, so results didn't change much and are probably within the margin of error.
16GB Stock card....
First Run:
Memory : 13.07mb/s
Storage : 0.14mb/s
Second Run:
Memory : 12.9 mb/s
Storage : 0.19mb/s
Third Run:
Memory : 9.8 mb/s
Storage : 0.13 mb/s
So am I to believe that the 'Memory' test was for reading and the 'Storage' was for writing?
If this is the case, these damn cards are as defective as could be. I know 2 other guys with Venue Pro 16 GB and they both have the same problem.
How the hell do they get an entire warehouse of defective cards? Did they buy these things refurbished?
Here are my stats based on a 8GB stock Dell Venue Pro pre-nodo:
Test #1 - Power Off & Power On
CPU: Sequential 10866 / Parallel 10471 - 21337ms
DATA: Memory 13.07 / Storage 3.56 - 14810ms
GPU: Frames 694 / Average 23
Test #2 - after 15 minutes of browsing & calls
CPU: Sequential 10868 / Parallel 10470 - 21338ms
DATA: Memory 13.07 / Storage 0.53 - 77737ms
GPU: Frames 692 / Average 23
Test #3 - after 30 minutes of idle
CPU: Sequential 10884 / Parallel 10468 - 21352ms
DATA: Memory 13.07 / Storage 3.56 - 15007ms
GPU: Frames 681 / Average 23
manually replaced with Sandisk 32G Class 2 after NoDo (changed dehydrateonpause to 0):

Storage 3.27m
Frame:668 average:22 FPS
Test 2 @ 0.8m:
Memory 13.07m
Storage 3.02m
Frame:660 average:22 FPS
So who's got the best 32gb sd card?
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220452&cm_re=32gb-_-20-220-452-_-Product
And will a class 10 word, or does it have to be 2?
Updated my 16gb DVP w/ NoDo to 32gb Sandisk class 2
Did 2 test runs immediately after
1) installing 32gb micro sdhc
2) set up phone
3) set up all my accounts
4) installed 60 apps & games over wifi
5) synced with PC, copying pictures, videos, and songs totalling 11 GB
AND I HAVEN'T FROZEN OR HAD TO REBOOT ONCE!!!
CPU
sequential: 11049, 11068 ms
parallel: 10486, 10322 ms
DATA @ 0.8 MB
memory: 13.07, 13.07 MB/s
storage: 3.27, 3.27 MB/s <-- MUCH IMPROVED!
GPU

Also, the ##634# CIT sd card test now shows status 0 OK.
All in all, I'd say the sd card swap was a huge success.
I got a class 4 SanDisk from Amzn and the write speed dropped (from previous 8 GB SanDisk class 4) from 3 MB/s to 0.64 MB/s.
Update: Ok, just reinstalled and re-ran the WP Bench app - and data performance shows 13.07 MB/s for reads and 3.27 MB/s for write. I say the WP Bench app has issues
For those interested, I posted about my experience in upgrading to a 32gb card.

You´re right. It happens to me as well. I have a Samsung Focus, NoDo installed (with Chevron.Updater), and a Sandisk 16Gb Class 4 loaded with 13Gb.
The storage speed varies from 0,18 to 4.9mb/s but the higher speeds (above 3mb/s) I only got during the first 3 or maybe 4 times running Wp Bench.
Nevertheless, the usage of my device has no lags at all, even when WP Bench shows a slow storage speed.
So, I think that this odd speed variation is due to a WP Bench´s issue or, even if it doesn´t has an issue, the way that WP7 manages the device´s memory is causing this odd behavior on WP Bench´s speed results.
What I do see - and I've seen others post about it as well is that when you download large apps (Fruit Ninja, Star Wars game, etc), the phone grinds to a halt. I didn't have to pull the battery, but I did have to do a power-off/on. I noticed that leaving the phone in the download screen helps - takes a looooong time to download but it does eventually finish.
Don't know if DVP firmware or Mango or something else is needed to address this.
I do have 14 of 32 filled.

It seems that you´re having a microsd card incompability with your device. Check this thread below where I have recommended a microsd card that doesn´t present any incompability issues like slowness, auto-resets and data loss.

Here's the test results for my custom 32gb DVP w/ FW 212 & Mango 7712
CPU
sequential: 8251 ms (improved from 11055)
parallel: 7792 ms (improved from 10400)
DATA @ 0.8 MB
memory: 13.07 MB/s (same)
storage: 13.07 MB/s (improved from 3.27?!)
GPU
23 avg FPS (same)
Looks like either the new mango or the new FW really boosted my cpu and data/storage scores... anybody else care to share results? I'm interested to see what improved with just the new FW, so if somebody can run the test on NoDo w/ and w/o the new FW that'd be great.
Introduction:
This thread suggests several build.prop entries that supposedly increase your 3g speeds:
[mod]Boosting Signal Strength (hspa/gprs)
After doing nearly 100 benches with the speedtest app, I have come to a couple conclusions:
The server your connect to for speedtest has the greatest impact on your speeds (network congestion)
The majority of the values given dont even exist by default on the device
Your battery charge might have more influence over speeds then any tweaks
Device defaults:
Code:
ro.ril.hsxpa=2
ro.ril.gprsclass=12
ro.ril.hep=" "
ro.ril.enable.dtm=" "
ro.ril.hsdpa.category=" "
ro.ril.hsupa.category=" "
ro.ril.enable.a53=" "
where " " means that the value isnt defined.
ro.ril.hsxpa: Defines weither to use UMTS, HSPDA/UMTS, or HSDPA/HSPUA respectively.
ro.ril.gprsclass: Defines what class speeds to use with edge. (12 is maximum defined in standard?)
ro.ril.hep: unknown and undefined
ro.ril.enable.dtm: Dual transfer mode (only relevent for EDGE connections, likely always enabled for devices built after 2010)
ro.ril.hsdpa.category: class 8 matches the max download rate
ro.ril.hsupa.category: class 6 matches the max upload rate
ro.ril.enable.a53: supposedly related to GSM security, no actual info (may not even exist)
Anything not listed is completely irrelevent.
Test setup:
PC on wireless-n
Streak 5 on wireless-g
Streak 5 switched to HSPA
ROM: CM7.2-rc0
Kernel: Phoenix kernel for CM7.2
BB: 406-2 (407)
Testing methodology:
Test 5/10 times on control
Make change via terminal and setprop
Enter and exit airplane mode
Do run
Undo mod and do control
Repeat for all
Do again, but make change via build.prop edits
Restart 3 times
Do run
Do control tests

Conclusion:
A google search shows that ro.ril.enable.a53 may not even exist besides self references to it's own speed tweaks, it may very well not even exist.
The same can be said about ro.ril.hep.
ro.ril.enable.dtm may be irrelevent as DTM allows you to use voice and data at the same time, and this technology only applies to edge.
This is likely implicitly always enabled for any device that supports it past 2010, as only the earliest 3g devices may not have had support for it.
ro.ril.hsxpa=2 and ro.ril.gprsclass=12 are likely already correctly definied for it (with it being a HSPA device)
Bar ro.ril.hsdpa.category=8 and ro.ril.hsupa.category=6, the rest of them are not valid to begin with.
I was able to achieve much higher speeds by switching servers, and all tests were intentionally done on the same server for consistancy.
Those values do canonically exist on other devices, but they're never defined on the S5.
Just as much my speeds varied wildly even from control to control, as much as doubling from the lowest common to highest common.
ro.ril.hsdpa.category and ro.ril.hsupa.category might potentially give an increase in speeds, but as they dont even have default values, they might not even be valid.
I cant even reproduce some of the results from enabling only ro.ril.hsdpa.category=8, as I restart the device after each change to be sure.
I may have inadvertantly connected to a faster server for that one instance.
tl;dr: you get as much speed increases from CHANGING THE THEME ICON TO DISPLAY 4G, you can also make stuff up and pretend it does something and let the placebo effect do all the work for you.
ro.ril.hsdpa.category=8 and ro.ril.hsupa.category=6, might do something, but they could very well be invalid.
thank you, great work
I'll get right on that! I'll make a sticker for my DS5 that says its 4G LTE+ ;P
Thankyou for the thorough testing, now what about vmheap?

I dont intend on testing it, it's default size never changes for any device, regardless of ram size. I assume goog knows what they're doing in respect to that, as manus can and do add in their own optimizations into their roms, and they still leave those values alone more or less.
Got the phone in November, didn't realize this until now.
Ran a speed test app and got 5 Mbps download, 4~ish Mbps ( huh, weird...)
Ran another speed test 2 weeks later and got 300~ KBps download, 700~900 KBps Upload.
Tried my signal everywhere in my house, same results.
on my Cable modem with a built in Router,
(technicolor tc8305c)
ran Speed test and got 33 Mbps 6 Mbps.
I have no idea what's going on, any help?
Any idea how WiFi is at other locations besides your house? Some have said that updating their router firmware fixes the issue. I'd try that as well as just a simple reboot of your modem and router and let everything obtain an IP address again

It's perfectly fine in other locations, I've rebooted/soft reseted my modem several times and that did not work at all.
I think I have to contact my ISP to update the firmware for me.
I checked my modem's logs and seems like i've been having some problems.
