Thanks for replying.
I've seen the post everyone speaks about their own devices so I can't properly decide
And by any chance you've got an comparison chart for AnTuTu test or other benchmark apps?

Looks like that thread is about as good as you will get at this point. Like you I'm trying to find out as well and so far not having a lot of luck. I'm actually waiting for FedEx to deliver my mk808B. I will be glad to give you a report on that after spending some time with it this afternoon.

I've searched the web and I got to this one guy's channel on YouTube, he's reviewing Android PC and stuff
well just listen to this : http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=0hyY6_9SPTo#t=287s
He's saying that MX1 is faster than the MK808 (and I read that MX2 is even better than MX1 because of the plastic shell)

MK808B Benchmarks
I've been benchmarking my MK808B using 4.1.1 ROMS. I just started testing 4.2.2 ROMS and things don't look as good. Stick with 4.1.1 until issues with 4.2.2 are resolved.

Please post any benchmark results of other TV Sticks so we have an idea a baseline for comparison. For $50 I think the MK808B makes the best device.

I wanna buy it but it takes too long to get here in USA. I don't wanna deal with custom and all the hassles.

I've been looking forward to this one since the announcement last month.
As usual shipping from china takes some time. However in the USA there isn't much problems with customs.
I've ordered plenty of stuff via Hong Kong of Singapore shipping and at worst have only had to go to the post office to pick it up.
I ordererd with DHL, but I also ordered some other items to make it worth the extra cost.
Plus it costs me $10 to get to the post office and back so express shipping just makes sense to me.
I'm sure these will show up on ebay in about a month for $10-$20 more with a usa seller.
That's the way these things usually go.
Other then this one, what has been the better one to buy?

The current stick with the most support, roms, and development would be the original MK808.
It's based on the RK3066 dual core with 1GB ram and 8GB nand. This is considered last generation hardware.
I love/hate this stick. It uses the RK901 wifi which has signal drop problems and maxes out at 65Mbps.
It's also one of the few android sticks with a heatsink which allows it to operate at over 1.2Ghz without issues.
It can be had for under $45 shipped. I own several of these.
I just received news that another RK3188 stick is being released.
The MK908 - upgraded version of the MK808 series.
-Rk3188
-2GB ram
-8GB nand
-Wifi b/g/n
-Bluetooth 4.0
-1 full size usb port
-1 mini usb port OTG
-1 mini usb port for power
-female mini hdmi port
-hidden reset button
From what I can tell the main difference between the MK908 and the T428 is the wifi, the casing, the mini hdmi port, and the extra OTG mini usb port.
The MK908 does not support 5Ghz like the T428 is supposed to.
The MK908 does have an extra mini usb port with OTG support.
The MK908 has a female mini hdmi port instead of a male full size hdmi connector.
There's also a price difference. MK908 is $89 vs the T428 at $99.
It's a good deal if you don't need/want 5Ghz wifi.
I also ordered one of these so I should be able to provide a review when it comes.

As of right now you can't put ubuntu onto the rk3188 devices.
There is no kernel source released or leaked. Hopefully we'll get some kernel source like we did for the rk3066
It may be possible to do ubuntu the old way with a vnc viewer, but I won't know until I get my sticks delievered.
I'm willing to be the guinea pig for any testing that needs to be done once I have these speed demons in my hands.

The controller at the top of my list is the Logitech K400. I like the position of the extra mouse button on the opposite side from the touchpad.
It's a bit big though.
I've also had success using the Rii Mini, and the Measy RC12.
I'm using that K400 keyboard and it works great. It has about 90% functionality in Android. Now about this Quad stick. I'd stay away from the thing or any Media box/stick unless you can mod it with a heat sink at least .. TV boxes get pushed more then a smartphone does and while these CPU's run cool enough in a smartphone and tablet, not so much in a Media box. I have the Promethius and it didn't have a heat sink. Playing Angry Birds or any 3D game caused it to lock up. I added a heat sink and it worked fine but ran really hot even at stock clocks. Now that I've moded my box with a tall heat sink and fan, this is no longer the problem and It runs super cool, even overclocked to 1.3GHz. These products are being made half ass. Be warned !

Both the T428 and the MK908 have heatsinks. So no worries on that end!
The Prometheus really needed a heatsink as did the original UG802.
Anyhow I'm expecting delivery by Tuesday so hopefully I'll have preliminary reviews up by Wednesday.
I'm really looking forward to it!
I've got one of the mk908's en route as well.
One rub though already: rk3188 is full 1080p, 3d and dual screen capable but this stick is shipping as 720p native.
I'm bouncing emails with geekbuying now to see what the deal is.
I just found this http://www.shenzhenpc2u.com/2013/04/here-comes-android-4-2-rk3188-quad-core-1080p-dlna-tv-stick-ug802b/ which has the same specs but lists 1080p native and ac3/dts decoding. only difference seems to be android 4.2 hopefully the mk908 will get the goods when the roll out the 4.2 upgrade... fingers crossed

I received both the T428 and the MK908 last night. So I've started the review process and should have something up within the next day or 2.
The link you provided for the UG802B has screen shots showing that it also is running at 1280x672.
From what I've seen with the RK3066 kernels it's just a matter of selecting 1080p when they compile the kernel.
So any of these devices should be able to support native 1080p if the manufacturer compiles a kernel for it.
The real trick for rockchip would be for them to finally figure out how to enable real switching of resolutions. They generally make these chips for tablets that have set screen sizes so they haven't gotten that down yet.
I got this response from geek buying :
Hello there,
the future will achieve 1080P.
We will get ROM as soon as possible.
regards
Amy

I've never used miracast before, so I've been trying to set it up with my phablet.
I know that the T428 has support for it, I just don't seem to be able to connect properly with my phablet.
The T428 says connected, my phablet sticks at connecting...
In other news I've uploaded the stock 4.2.2 firmware for the T428.
http://www.armtvtech.com/armtvtechforum/viewforum.php?f=208
I'm in the process of making a slightly modified version of this that will have root and a 2GB data partition.
I may included some other tweaks.
Thanks for trying, let me know if you have any luck.
I'll try with my nexus 4 when I get mine delivered.

[QUESTION]What's the best Android stick out now?

I will use the Android TV stick mostly for watching movies on XBMC, and I also want to know if any of them is capable of playing 1080p. So what'd you choose at the moment? I found the Imito MX2, and maybe the MX808 or 809, but what do you find the best stick at the moment?
I would be interested to read people's opinions also on this. I currently use two Xbox 360's with media center but Android sticks could be a nice alternative.

I chose the iMito MX2 due to it's speed and the fact that it had Bluetooth built in. I have two, and the only real problem I've had is that the play store can't seem to differentiate between them... I'm assuming I'll have to hack a serial down the road in one of them to fix it. It plays 1080p though, and is fast enough to handle dead trigger and retro arch with a gamepad, and blows my raspberry pi out of the water in xbmc smoothness. There are likely better sticks out now due to the quad cores, but these work really well for me.

Best for the Price$
Let us make this by price category.
Best under $50
Best between $50 and $100
Best over $100
My top choices:
Best under $50
MK802II single core, lowest price (best supported, most ROMS, lots of firmware options)
MK808\MK808B dualcore (well supported, stable, fast, factory provides updates) tabletuser.blogspot.com and see benchmarks LINK
I own the Uhost U1A and it is the same as the MK802II, but don't own the MK802II. I do own the MK808B and believe for the $50 price it's the best choice for an Android Stick.

I just bought MK 802 III for 58 dollars and It looks and works fantastic. It is dual core with 1GB ram. I read some reviews about it and most of them were positive. Android app to control it makes it better. I played some HBO Go movies and they were flawless and very clear. I also tested some 1080P videos from youtube and they works without any issue. On netflix I could see how the video started choppy but then turned into clear HD. I havent played with it much I think I am going to like it.
I also used FAVI smartstick, it was nice too but couldnt play 1080P videos. HBO go was low quality as it is single core.

Hi all, from my search the new quad cores look like they could actually be useful HTPC replacements.
They run the new RK3188 Chip, which means 1.8ghz (Quad core) CPU and MALI 400 GPU. I am still waiting for some custom ROMs and XBMC compatibility tests, but so far they look very promising.
From the reviews I've read/watched the MK908 looks like having a much improved WIFI reception, Bluetooth 4.0 and 2GB of RAM (most new sticks with the RK3188 have 2GB of RAM).
So let's see which Android pc stick will get the developers support , and then choose accordantly.
The competition is on.
Does anyone know if XBMC for android supports live/recorded TV? I have a QAM tuner in my HTPC running WMC right now.
Android stick for mothers day - need advice
I need to order an android stick and I need it fast, but I need product advice. I'm buy it for my mother for mothers day so that she can stream video over netflix and from my Plex server in my home a couple hundred miles away. I want her to be able to Skype rather seamlessly and since she's not very good with computers, less peripherals = better gift. Please advise on everything that I need to get her setup. I'll need either a stick that has a camera built in or I'll need a compatible web cam to buy separately from the stick. Same goes for the keyboard. I'd like it to be already set at or upgradeable to android 4.2 so that she can use it for Miracast. Please let me know:
- Which stick I should buy
- Recommended airmouse/air keyboard w/ mic and speaker if necessary
- Recommended/compatible wifi and/or USB webcam to clip onto the TV
- Recommended USB hub if I need one
If possible recommend devices that can be bought off of Amazon or somewhere in the US so that I can get it by Saturday. If not that's OK too I guess, it'll just be a bit late.
Thanks
Jim
I'm using UG802
Specs:
- 1.6 GHz Dual-Core (Rockchip 3066)
- 1 GB RAM
- 4 GB FLASH
- microSD Slot ( up to 32 GB)

I actually was wondering about the "EU plug" version of the device. Both those items are sold on geekbuying and the "EU plug" version is about ten euro cheaper than the MK908 you started this thread about.
any updates on this yet? Are there any uk suppliers?
Just got this from geekbuying--going to pick it up next week. Psyched. This is my first android pc stick, finally took the plunge after seeing some preliminary videos and knowing that finless will come out for it eventually.
I'll let you all know how it goes!
mk 908 low score?
I get a score of 14000 in antutu which is low for a rk3188 at 1.6ghz i saw in no-frills cpu control in the view stats part shows that its only running at 1008mhz. Im guess its running some where in between 1.6ghz and 1008mhz because when i force a force clock of 1008mhz it only scores 11000 in antutu. I think this score of 14000 in antutu is low since tablets which run the rk3188 at 1.6hz get 18000 and at 1.8ghz get 20000. Is there any custom roms out there with cpu value controls? Will roms of other rk3188 devices work?

Don't concern yourself with antutu scores just yet. Device just came out so firmware will have to get tweaked. Do you see any issues with the device rather than lower than usual antutu score?
If everything is working well I would suggest to wait a few months until this stick gets proper ROM support.

The wifi signal seems pretty weak even though im right beside my router and it still cuts out all the time, but I am waiting for a micro usb to rj45 adapter to hard wire it anyways.
Is it possible to use Netflix

Settings erased
Hi
i got this device a couple of days ago. I noticed that when you reboot it or shut it down, the settings are reset to default. Is there a way to maintain android settings for this device even after reboot? Thanks

I wanna know this too, it reset time and everything to default. The date reset back to 1971. I did check on carrier set time and it helped on date but not on time.

Maybe try a factory reset? Might order one of these as well
Dont buy this thing... Its rather underwhelming.
It does not ship with xbmc and you cant use the current stable version because it crashes... you have to get a mirrored link for a special build from geekbuying via email which takes a week.
There are two OTG cables in the box... I can report that at least one of them is not suitable for flashing roms. I had to use an old moto cable.
its not 1080p yet.
even if they do release an update to make it push 1080, the processor doesn't seem to have the gonads to decode 720p content without at least some chop so I cant imagine 1080 ever looking good.
the stock netflix looks like crap even with solid wifi connection. the xda HD hack might fair better though I have not tried it yet
yes the play store works. yes it is rooted with SU out of the box.
Overall, I kinda think it sucks.

Exoon Q2 Mini Dongle vs Tronsmart T428 (Identical?)

Hi everyone,
So I am about to order a Tronsmart T428, as after some research I have concluded that it looks like the best Android stick out there.
It has the new wifi chip (Broadcom AP6330), which supports 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz wifi and Bluetooth 4.0. The rest is basically the same with all the RK3188 chip Android sticks (Quad 1.8Ghz/2GB RAM/8GB ROM/Support for microsd and 1 full sized USB2.0).
But, as every new technology it has some bugs, mostly in XBMC which is why I have been postponing the purchase.
Now I have found the Exoon Q2 Mini Dongle has a new ROM, which supposedly enabled hardware acceleration on XBMC and promises a smooth performance (please see here).
When comparing the hardware of the 2 products, I find it 100% identical (from reading the specifications).
Could anyone confirm that? Would the Exoon Q2 Mini Dongle ROM work with the T428?
If this would be true, it would make these small pens an extremely good buy, as the media center abilities are the biggest selling point for me).
Please let me know what you think.
Exoon's other devices are just the Minix Neo X5 and G4 just put a different sticker and added a 100 buck on to the price the rom dev has his roms on MINIX forums if you load one you get the Exoon boot logo so yes they will probably work but finless Bob makes better Roms

I see exynos 4412 as SoC for the q2, t428 has rk3188
Sorry my bad it is this one..

Still 100 bucks cheaper

Thank you all for the replies.
@quincyquinn
I still don't have the T428, waiting for it to arrive as I already ordered 3 . This thread was made due to the fact that I was reading the Exoon claim that they have developed a ROM for their Q2 and Q2 mini stick which has flawless playback in XBMC with hardware acceleration, something that T428 still did not have (or at least I thought that they did not have).
When comparing the specifications they even have the same WIFI chip, so I was not sure if their ROM would've been better on the T428 than the current official ROM.
Good to hear that there is something better to use, its a pity we don't have a place on XDA for the Android development for these devices.
As for the link you have posted, thanks for the suggestion, but it's not only the slower CPU but also the fact that it only has 1GB of RAM that puts me of. Plus it is more expensive than the T428.
@NixZero
Please see the specifications for Exoon Q2 mini dodge here
And for T428 here
Unless I am missing something they look to be exactly the same on the hardware side, with both of them using the same RK3188 chip.
Have a nice day.

yeah, they looks like exactly the same dongle with just a different sticker, I was looking at the q2 box (why the heck they call everything with the same name?) which has a samsung cpu.
in theory you should be able to buy a 428 (less expensive) and burn one of their roms to get any advantage they have but looks like they still have to make a custom rom, there's not even a specific forum page for the new dongle on their forums.
the "firmware" page refers to the samsung one, not the new rk3188.
Exoon Roms are just custom Roms for the T428 they will not work any better than any custom ROM. Finless Bob and a few more make better Roms for these rock chip devices but the big problem is rockchip do not release source code for any chip so xbmc devs any limited to what they can do this is why the Samsung chip might be a better in the long run

Thank you all for your replies. I still hope RK3188 will get their source code released, it is still a relatively new chip and apparently with a good performance. If RK3066 has XBMC working correctly, it is just a matter of time to get it working on this new quad core edition with a slightly higher clock .
By the way, yesterday the new firmware for the T428 has been released (4.2.2) with working bluetooth and netflix improvements. I should be getting mine next week, so I will be able to give more information about the performance.
Back to the topic, if EXOON is claiming a flawless play for 1080p content on XBMC on their Q2 and Q2 mini dodge, by this logic owners of T428 should be able to have that also.

Need a room for a Rockchip RK3066 stick?

Just bought a TV Stick with these specs
Specifikationer:
Chipset: Rockchip RK3066
CPU: AMR Cortex A9 Dual core 1.6 GHz
GPU: Mali-400MP Quad core
RAM: 1 GB DDR3
Flash memory: 8 GB
Memory card: Micro SD up to 32 GB
WiFi: 802.11 b/g/n
Android version: 4.2 .1Jelly Bean
Bluetooth: 2.1
The firmware preinstalled is a mess. And i wounder if there is any way to install a "Universal" room whom will work on this stick.
The brand is Andersson :s
I have googled and found out lots of firmwares from rockchipfirmware.com but dunno what to take? I want as clean as possible, and will be mostly using XBMC.
There are hundreds of RK3066 sticks out there. Unfortunately there is no universal firmware. The best way to find a working firmware is to shoot some fotos of the device (also of the inside) and post them here. Maybe someone recognises it and knows a firmware for it. Good luck!
Thanks for the info.
Have not opened it yet.. I will try to do so.
It has problems with HD movies on xbmc, so i will try to find a nother rom or fix!
Try SPMC. That's a special XBMC version for TV Boxes and TV Sticks. Also try to play with the hardware acceleration settings in XBMC/SPMC (switch between mediacodec and libstagefright HW decoding).
Guess you have been shopping at NetonNet
Check the thread at sweclockers: Google for "ads 2.1 99"
I have not rooted yet, but the 4.4 rom without overlocking works like a charm on two sticks for the kids
The remote itself is worth the money...
