broken headphone jack

PLEASE HELP
My wife has this phone..(so do i) well anyway she found a way to do the impossible. she broke her headphone jack in the headphone hole. The tip broke and the bottom is logged in the hole. I tried to get some super glue to perhaps stick it together and pull it out..this did not work. I took the back cover off to get more access but still cant get it..any one have any suggestions...now i also have a lot of superglue residue in the hole. is there any way to open this thing and get the rest of the plug out? BTW it is not the N1 headphone but another brand. PLEASE HELP

Is the tip hollow? If so you could try taking a small screw into it in order to have something to pull it out with.

the tip is not hollow and the shaft part is broke off under the plastic part.

BUT if you are feeling "ballsy"
take your average sewing needle and heat it up with a lighter stove w/e unitll it is red-hot. USE A PLIERS TO HOLD IT
then plunge it into the center of the remenants and let it cool
only try this if there is some plastic left in there.

lol...I will try that...hope it works, how will the needle grip the broken part of the headphone. would it just pull right out.. I need something to grab or grip the broken part....I dont want to break my phone.

Well the poster with the needle idea has the goal of having the hot needle cool with melted plastic from piece that is broke off. Once cool, the hope is that the plastic will adhere to the needle (now completely cool) and allow you to pull it free.
I have some reservations about this idea. How did she break the tip off. Was it a sideways motion? Or did you try to correctly remove the plug but for some reason it was stuck and the tip was left lodged in?
If it was the later of those, the needle idea will do nothing. It may work is it happened the first way I described.
An alternative to the needle idea and potentially more damaging is to take a paper clip, place a small bead of solder on the tip. Avoid touching any of the phones internals with the solder and press that paper clip up against the broken tip. It should not take long to cool. Once it does, it may give the the force you need to pull it free.
Please report back when you have sorted this out. We are all curious.

maybe a little dab of jbweld or gorilla glue, if worst comes to worse of course. It would be much easier if it were hollow.

You want to stick a high power magnet next to a 530 dollar phone? Are you nuts?!?

The way to take out a broken screw is to drill a small whole in the center and try to wedge the smallest Allen wrench into it.
Maybe that might give you some sort of idea on how to dislodge that earpiece. I know it's not the same thing...but its N idea.

And what exactly do you think would happen?
I'm not talking SUPER magnet, but honestly, what component of the phone do you think is in anyway affected by a magnet?
There is a myth that magnets destroy electronics. Sure you can use a magnet to wipe a hard drive (not flash storage, talking magnetic disk) but it takes a SUPER strong magnet with a concentrated beam to do even that.

Cleaning the speaker grill....

Ok I'm sure you all like to keep your HD2's looking as clean and shiny as i do, however I've noticed a bit of fluff and dust collecting in the earpiece speaker grill. I was just womdering if anyone had found a quick and simple way of cleaning it? I've tried cotton buds, sellotape and air dusters but it wont shift!
Before you suggest it I've already considered shrinking myself down to microscopic size (like that 80's movie with Dennis Quaid) and removing it by hand but thats not very practical.

I use one of the girlfriends unused blusher brushes, and I keep it in the case all the time. A thick brush works best, you can grip the tip and give the grill a brisk brush.

Try one of those little usb vaccum cleaners. They're only a few bucks on ebay and should do the trick.

Yes, very annoying with all the crap that collects in the ear piece speaker grill...

usb vacuum cleaners are just a geek collectable (I would know, I have one sitting on my desk anc passively collecting dust since at least 3 years ago as it is useless for any other use )... anyway, @you who suggested pressurized airflow... don't you worry that it will somehow damage the speaker membrane?

Also while I think of it, I use one of those super-duper 'Xlerator' hand dryers at work on occasion to blow some of the dirt out of it.

Dont use a Dyson vaccum cleaner tho I sucked 4 keys off my laptop and what a pain replacing those

Thanks again folks, some strange and ingenious solutions indeed. The small brush is doing the trick but theres still some crap actually lodged in the grill I can't shift. Oh well..... at least I haven't smashed the screen or anything serious ....

This cyber clean gel works well for picking dust out of the ear slot and the USB socket.

I wouldn't use that!
I did this once at work on an old phone, and as you know, water likes to form in the pipes when it's not been used in a while in compressors, also you get tiny bits of dirt in the pipes which you're blasting out and through the grill like a soft sand blaster!
Anyway, didn't even notice the small amount of water blasting out until the phone stopped working and i took it apart again to see the whole board was rusty.
Wondering if it was the air line that did it I fired it at a wall for about 30 seconds and saw it forming on the wall and running down.
A quick empty of the compressors drain valve did the trick to stop the water, but I still wouldn't trust it now.
I use a sort bristled (unused) tooth brush on my HD2 now.

Try good old blu-tack.
That or use something like a pin to dislodge the bits then the brush to clear them.

A soft tooth brush may work.

Does anyone here tried opening their tab or is there any link about the disassembly . I've looked everywhere but just cant seems to find any .

Where's an iFixit teardown when you need one?
I guess these things are too expensive to be guinea pigs and the process is probably like the later Samsung tablets -- no screws, all snap together and with the aluminum back a high risk of damage.

It just snaps apart. The screen lifts from the housing. It's very tight though, be prepared to spend about 10 minutes (and a few hand cramps!) separating all 22 clips on each side. Phew. It's also easiest to lift from the bottom, near the charging port so you don't damage the headset jack.

Yep! Very easy. It just snaps back together.
Slide the screen into the top part of the housing first, realigning the chrome headset jack cover so it doesn't slip (that thing is a pain!), then snap the rest back into place.

Your awesome Nae how did you open it can you give me some instruction i mean a video on how you open it?

Got it removed men that was nerve wracking. The problem is i forgot to remove my 32gb microsd next thing i know is that my card was cut into half , oh well.
Reason why i want it open is because i want to remove the small ding on the case. After removing the case i put a small magnet and small metal screw on the otherside to pinpoint the dent then i start rubbing it using the screw drivers handle and after a minute the dent is gone! Yesssssss thanks again for the instruction.

It wasnt that hard. I used the bigger part from my simcard you know ehere you have to press out your tiny sim. Put my nail between screen and case en the inserted the card and pushed it deep then wikkle it around and the case is loose 30sec work.

You can use this Blue Plastic Opener to easily separate the screen and the panel.

The back cover can be changed. It is available through a Samsung Service provider in your region. I guess it cost about US$ 25.

[FIX] Wi-Fi/Bluetooth error - 10 minute fix - NO SOLDERING REQUIRED

This is the way I fixed the wifi\bluetooth error with continuous rebooting on my Atrix.
I did not come up with it, and I do not guarantee it will work in your device, I'm simply sharing this because it's information that's hard to find and understand. I fixed my device in this way, so have others. I do not take responsability for any damage you might make to your device attempting this fix, and I do not claim it will work forever - it's been two days for me and still great!
For completeness sake, if you guys want to check other proposed fixes and some reasons why they might or might not work, here is this great post by mvniekerk, a person more far more knowlegble then me when it comes to these technological issues:

So, what did I do?
1) I cut out two rectagular pieces of plastic from a pill tin, glued them on top of each other with scotch tape. I think any thin piece of plastic should do.
2) Opened up my Atrix by removing screws with a T5 Torx screwdriver. If you don't know how to do this check out this teardown by ifixit: http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Motorola+Atrix+4G+Teardown/4964/1
3) Slightly raised the motherboard and placed the plastic rectangle under it, with a little bit sticking out into the battery compartment.
To my amazement it worked, it is still working.
I wanted to tell you guys why, but I don't know. Perhaps one of you guys wants to experiment applying pressure to each component separately to find out the culprit?
Also, I'm curious to know if this will work for all of you, or just some of you.
Here are the pics:
This last one is the piece of tin\plastic with tape, side by side with a pencil for scale. Its not the tin I used, but its basically the same, but the one I used has white paint, I don't know if should make a difference. If you're worried about shorts just cover the whole thing in tape or cut plastic from a bottle or something.
The first two are how its supposed to look in the end.

This is the piece of plastic I used. It doesn't show, but it is very thin, one milimiter thick, if even.
These are of the open device. In the last one the plastic piece is a little eschewed, but you get the idea.

Huh. This is similar to the fix some people did with the digitizer problem. Seems like the the connectors on this phone tend to come loose, to where pressure in the right direction will fix it.

It's literally as simple as opening the atrix and placing the plastic under the motherboard, I don't think it gets any easier then that. But I'll try to take more photos.
As for that video, there are reports of people killing their mobiles by breaking the piece holding the battery or killing the nearby ICs trying that. That guy is just too rough. Also, it doesn't show the battery actually being replaced. If you wanna try to replace the battery, better do it gently and stay clear of that video

If the solution is to apply pressure to certain parts of the board then it's likely similar to the infamous nVidia issues from around 2008 where the chips were getting hot enough to expand and brake the solder connection or in some cases, rip some of the pads from the board. If that is the case, be careful, as flexing the board the wrong way could eventually lead to making it worse over time.

I can't believe this actually worked. Been using my Atrix for the whole weekend on WIFI. Also finally been able to use my Lapdock properly.
Thanks so much for such a simple fix.
If its any help to anyone, I ended up using an old debit card, as its seems the perfect height to give enough pressure on the board.
It did take a few goes, but as long as you persist with it, it works really well. Plus no more over heating too.

Hi everybody,
I might have an idea what causes the wifi errors. As the wifi gets fixed by changing the motherboard's position, the motherboard is not fastened properly. This might be caused by the vibration function that is located on the part of the motherboard you would need to move up.(see the location of the vibrationfuction in the attachment.)
If so, should this function be less used then?

What an interesting tweak. There some validity to this. The Atrix 4G is notorious for wifi, bluetooth, and GPS dropout. This is largely due to kernel and rom. However I have seem plenty of Atrix4Gs with loose antenna clamps. Usually I apply a little pressure in the outside of the clamp to reform it slightly so it will maintain hold on the reciever socket. Second thing I look at is the shielding around the mainboard. This acts as a heatsink and guard. If depressed in anyway will cause massive heating along with grounding. The antenna clusters are not well separated from RF interference from one another to begin with. Metal in general will restricted RF signals considerably depending on its frequency. The greater the frequency the lower it's ability to perpetrate materials.
From the looks of it your directing RF crossover and bounce back away from each antenna. This is a good thing. It also means as long as the phone is not held on its edge towards any receiving end it won't effect talk and data very much.
My experiments with the Atrix4G always had a bit of unpredictable outcome when it came to pressure on the ribbon connections. This would result in the screen blacking out, digitizer over sensitive or non responsive, failure to boot and so on. Pressure is a big deal with these phones so be careful.

Spoke too soon. This fix stopped working after two days.... Back to Wifi Error and boot loop. :crying:

I got my wifi to work again, there are two snap on connectors on the same side of the phone. I put 2x pieces of toilet paper cardboard between the frame of the phone and the connector, pushing the connector tighter to the other side.

I'd like to confrm that it works to me !

I did this as well, and it's been working perfectly for over a week now. Battery life has tripled to 24h (back where it used to be, what a relief) and the wifi is back to being perfect.
In my case, I cut a small piece out of an old credit card and inserted into the section highlighted in the attached picture, inside to out (from the battery bay towards the side). There are flat cables/strips underneath and you probably don't want to insert your spacer material from the outside in. Make sure that the plastic strip fits completely underneath the board, otherwise you won't be able to properly close the back.

[HARDWARE MOD] Microphone Cover

Hello everybody!
I´m new to this Forum and want to share my little Hardware Mod tutorial for our RAZR i.
Q: What it does?
A: It strengthen the bottom plastic cover.
Q: Why i does it?
A: Because my bottom cover makes creaky noises when pushing with my fingers.
Q: What do i need for this mod?
A: Only your fingernail and a piece of paper.
Q: Is it easy to do?
A: Yes, realy easy.
My Problem with the bottom plastic cover was that it makes creaky noises when i push
it with my fingers. This was realy annoying for me as the rest of the phone is
made of metal and only the bottom plastic cover has a weak feeling...
So i open the plastic cover with my fingernail, starting on the edge.
It is only hold in position with a few plastic clips and a little doublesided-tape.
So no problem to open. Dont worry! Just put your fingernail under the plastic and open.
The plastic cover has two little plastic pins that fit in two little holes in the phone-housing.
But these pins are (in my case) a little to short or the holes are a little to deep.
So if you push the plastic cover will bend until the plastic pins reach the end of the holes.
This makes the creaky noise.
So i looked at the holes in the phone-housing to fill them a little up with something.
I decided to put a little bit of paper in the holes. That helped a lot!
Just try how much paper you have to put in until it is to much and the cover won´t fit again.
After that you can easy put the cover back. No need for doublesided-tape because of the plastic clips.
Now if i push the plastic cover together with my fingers it never bend and never makes
creaky noises! It feels a lot better than before!
On the Picture you can see the red arrows show the two plastic pins i mean.
I hope everybody can understand what i mean. Sorry for my poor english...

I have the same problem but I really dont notice it unless I press tha plastic on porpuose. I tried aligning the papes so as not to have the sound but I only decreased it. So I took them out in fear that I would bread the plastic, It seemed blown up

Just tried it, works like a charm! Makes my phone feel really sturdy.

I stuck little balls of paper were you originally posted, but that didn't do the trick so I leyed down another paper on top of everyting, almost covering the glue or whatever the sticky thing is. I think I need better instructions as of where to put the paper

U need only to fill up the holes for the two plastic-pins...
I will try to add more Pictures to show where to put the Paper.

I tried once again and this time I got it right. It only makes sound when I press it too hard on the center. Thank you!
