I have a backlight problem with my HTC EVO Shift. The backlight has stopped working consistently. I believe it has something to do with the cable in between the slider part. When my phone is completely shut, the backlight is not working. When my phone is completely open (keyboard exposed) the backlight is not working. when my phone is in the halfway position (keyboard partly exposed) the backlight illuminates the screen and I am able to use the phone. It is very difficult to continue to use the mobile device in the halfway point. I have another mobile device on the way but I will need to see the screen in order to get the rest of my data off, or at least make a nandroid backup and go from there.
If it is not the cable then can someone point me in the right direction. If it is the cable/screen could someone tell me where to get a replacement. I am capable of doing repairs. I would rather not if it is avoidable.
thank you xda community.
Re: Backlight Screen Problem
Main flex cable could be your issue. Grab the part from eBay

I have one on the way. Thank you. Funny thing. When i took it apart the cable itself looked okay. I guess there may be damage within i cannot see. I do use the keyboard ALOT.
Thanks again

If you're using the xda app, just add "solved" in the subject line. You may need to scroll up to see it...

If you edit your first post, the best way is to just add "[SOLVED]" to the beginning of your thread title
To give thanks, from the app either tap on the persons post and then hit the thanks popup, or on the computer theres a Thanks button under their name

Around the notification bar area, touch the screen hard. Does your screen feel like its clicking in like the blackberry storm? I have a problem and I'm wondering if it's only me

Yeah, not super hard, as I don't want to break it. But a lot harder then I would be if I was trying to use the touch screen or buttons.
If I were you I'd go to best buy and ask to play with the demo. Try it on the demo, if it doesn't happen, exchange yours.
Thanks for the advice

Did you try it with the screen off or on because mine seems to do it when on only
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Mine does NOT click or feel like it's clicking when touching (moderate pressure) the notification bar area (right, left or center), with the screen on or off.
None of the three Nexus S handsets I've gone through so far have done that. Take it back. Samsung's QC needs a lot of work.
Thanks alot for the replies guys. I'll be exchanging it
I unfortunately just realized I have this problem, right near the FCC woohoo 3rd nexus s
yea it sucks tell me how your exchange goes

Sure thing. Its dissappinting that you pay $530 for a phone and I has quality problems
Anyone else got this? Basically, when the phone screen isn't moving, such as when I'm reading some text, the screen flickers. For example, whenever I'm reading a post on xda, the white background around the text starts to flicker, and it is really noticeable in the dark while just reading posts in my rom thread, and its very distracting. (Happens when keyboard is open and closed)
Anyone else have this? Anyone know what part I should buy to replace it?

i had this a few months ago and now the phone is on low all the time cant turn up, the brightness it still flickers a bit brighter every now and then.
if you have the same as me it isnt the screen i was thinking its was the ribbon cable and couldnt find a cheap replacement based on a hunch,
now i seen more people getting this i would guess its the driver board for the screen,
not looked in to this though and dont want to folk out money on a phone i am looking to replace as soon as the driod 4 gets GSM.

This has been happening since I remember getting the device. About 3/5 times when I bring my device out of standby and I go to enter my pattern the touch is off. I have "show touches" enabled in developer options to verify this.
When I put my finger on the top left dot of the 3X3 pattern, which is around the middle-left of the screen, it is detecting that I'm touching the device all the way in the top left corner. If I drag my finger around the screen, the touch is offset. If I remove my finger from the screen and place it back on the screen, then it is properly detected.
I didn't run on stock for very long, maybe an hour or two, before I rooted and flashed AOKP. Right now I'm on WhiteHawkx's unnoficial AOKP nightly and Franco's Kernel (r122).
My plan is to flash back to stock and see if it still happens then. But currently I have a really busy week ahead and don't have time so looking for insight.
Anyone else experience something like this?
No one? So I guess I should call Google for a warranty exchange?

I posted in that thread a while ago about this issue and no one confirmed. Thanks for your reply. I'm going to go back to stock this weekend and run it for a couple days to verify.

Let me know your results. If it persists, I might have to send mine back.
I'm on stock ROM. I have this issue too, when I power on and drag to unlock, I get a delayed mismatched response. I have to power off then back on again.
It started this recently, so might be app related.

Turn on " show touches" in developer options to help verify if you the save thing happening.
I don't have to reboot mine but I have to lift finger of screen and put back on to get it to properly detect where the touch should be.

So just as a follow up I reverted to stock for 5 days and didn't see this issue. Flashed back to AOKP and Franco kernel and now it's happening randomly when I go to hang up a call. I tap on the red hang up bar and it detects the touch in the top left corner.
I called Google play support but since I didn't buy my device from them they directed me to lg.
I'm starting to think it's my screen protector.

lol, I had insensitivity issues on the bottom of the screen way back, I use a displayed pin pad on lockscreen so I just tap a certain spot to unlock, I sometimes wonder why the digitizer register incorrectly.
flashing a different kernel helped, I'm using motleys.
Have had this problem since launch, im on stock rooted, maybe its a certain app?
If anyone wants to compare their apps with me to find a similar problem, shoot me a pm
So I have this weird issue. The very bottom of my screen does not respond well! At first I thought it was a bug with the navigation bar, tried several roms and tried PIE controls until I figured that there is something wrong. I have the navbar now set at 48 dpi and I have to press at middle of it to work, where the very bottom is dead. I activated 360 rotation so that my statusbar now is at the bottom of the screen instead of navbar and it does not respond at all! Anyone can explain ?

I have Tried like lots of different roms with clean fresh installation and the problem is still there ! I think its a hardware problem. For ezample right now if I set my navbar to 32 dpi it wont respond at all because the bottom of my screen have lost the touch sensitivity. I have droppes my phone several times, could that be it ? I cant really remember when I exactly started noticing the issue...but just few days ago...I have tried PIE and same **** :s I have to set the trigger area to max for it to respond...and yes im talking about experiments after a clean install before installing ANY third party app

okays... Now I think it surely a hardware problem,as you said you havr also dropped your phone several times.. All the best goto the service centre for the repair.. dont tell them that you have dropped your phone else they will charge you badly even if you are under warranty.. You are welcome..

Think Im gonna give no damn about it and of course buy the nexus 5, which I would have done either way..but im surprised how can a touchscreen lose a part of its sensitivity somewhere on the screen ?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
If you look closely at your screen at an angle with the screen off you will be able to see the digitizer matrix that is fused to the screen.
It is a series of squares.
Each of them squares has 3 horizontal lines and one vertical.
Behind the bezel there will be the circuitry that connects every horizontal and vertical line
If say for instance after one of your phone drops it has damaged one of the connectors at the side, you will lose the entire row of touch detection. Which is probably what has happened

Alex is right i had this happen to my moto defy. I'd say get it done under warrnty no matter if youre keeping or selling. Improve your resale value and protect you from having the entire digitizer die on you
I was using my phone like any other day, and then I locked my phone and later on went to wake the screen and it wouldn't wake up. I did a "battery pull" (power+volume down) and it rebooted fine. When it came back on, I tried to press the button to lock the screen but to no avail. I went on and got smart screen on and it works okay but I'd like to know if any of you know what's wrong with it. It feels fine, clicks like normal. I haven't dropped it recently or anything. But sometimes, when I barely touch the power button, the power menu opens. I don't really understand that but if any of you have any help for me, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
