Moving from an iPhone5... The last time I moved from iOS to Android was the 4 to the Dell Streak and that was a decision I had regretted severely. When I first heard of the Z and watched YouTube videos, I thought this was too good to be true. A 5inch 1080p screen running the (almost) latest firmware, beautiful hardware and also waterproof? And then I heard about the mediocre battery and the washed out screen. But it was too late to back out by then and I got my Z about 24 hours ago.
Battery life is actually surprisingly good. Granted, I am on Stamina mode with only whatsapp on the whitelist but that's all I really need. It's not like I am sacrificing anything. I hardly get Facebook notifications and I don't think there is push notifications for Twitter on Android yet (correct me if I'm wrong). Unplugged at 8.30pm last night and at 3.30pm today, it's at 9% and this is with heavy whatsapping, app installs, browsing, some calls, some pictures and a few minutes of videos too. I honestly don't think my jailbroken 5 could have lasted this long.
The software itself, was OK. Installed Nova Launcher Prime with a nice theme and a beautiful widgets widget and the phone looks amazing right now and not to mention fast. Still discovering new apps and the whole experience is such a refreshing change from the stale iOS.
One weird problem I have is that the phone doesn't charge or charges at an extremely slow pace when connected to the PC. Don't know what can be the issue here.
Things I hope to get soon : Better lockscreen notifications, namely for whatsapp (Sure a third party app could do this, finding for one though), screen calibration software from Sony and stable CM, hopefully with BE included.
All in all, I love the Xperia and am extremely glad I had made the jump. Let's see how it handles the week.

Great review!
You can download "Notify me" on Google play for the whatsapp notifications. And somewhere in whatsapp settings you can enable the popups. Don't remember where though.

I think it's normal that the phone charges slowly when connected to a pc. The usb bus can't give a high enough current to charge fast.

I understand why people choose a different launcher to stock. All the transparency used causes glitches and stutters here and there but each time I change it, I find myself quickly returning that I've given up. No launcher in my opinion suits the phone more than the stock launcher.
Glad you're loving the phone, I am too.

Found this app the other day and can't believe I went this long without it!
Screen Filter. It's free from the marketplace. It tones down your brightness significantly under the lowest setting in TouchWiz.
I used to keep sunglasses next to my bed for sleepy-time Reddit browsing, but not any more!
Here's an A-B for you non believers. First photo is at lowest brightness setting in TouchWiz. Second photo is at 34.1% brightness (toggled by Screen Filter widget)

Ok, installed and tried it. It's really good, but i did find one bug; nothing shows up in "My Schedule".
Edit: One more thing. I'm using the Galaxy Note with a 1280x800 resolution screen, and the background (dark theme) is in low quality which includes banding. Is it 16 or 24-bit?
Do you have any screen shots of the banding issue? Regarding the schedule, are you sure you have the screen configured in a way that should give results (shows with schedule enabled, proper start and end times, etc.)?
Yup, here it is (god i hope you can see it lol)

Wowww!!! just awesome!! slick fast and really beautiful on ICS, Galaxy S I9000..
The only issue is that it doesnt have http://www.myepisodes.com import support..
I have over 55(!!) shows.. and inserting each of them into your db would take forever.. any way you could support importing the stats from that site?
I would certainly buy that app when it's get released with that feature..
Edit:
Bug report:
App crashes when marking whole seasons as watched too fast..

Yep...it's the Nexus 7. Whats with the horribly washed view?!
I love the design of this device... it was to be almost perfect for me. However the screen sucks. Its washed out and text is not any clearer than my wife's nook. I'm thinking mine is a defective one. It has minor light bleed but more or less flush screen. No creaking... the left has a little more give but good otherwise. My USB port clicks firmly but it has some wobble. The device itself stutters a lot, even after a data reset. My biggest problem is that the screen becomes utterly unresponsive after a few minutes of use. I sent an email rather than call. If i don't get an RMA in a couple days I'll call in as well. I'm very disappointed. Want to love this device but I can't.

Yes, washed out text on my ASUS Infinity tf700! The only site that is like this is xda
The text is nice and clear when i logout though. I hope the site coders will fix.
in the browser, change the xda theme to xda 2010(bottom left) and itll solve the washed out look on your nexus 7.
The Nexus 7 display is calibrated very bad...
Especially greens and whites are washed out and white-saturation is very bad too!
So N7 canĀ“t display different white and grey nuances - they look all white or washed out.
I think google/asus will never fix it...
This has nothing to do with the calibration of the N7 screen. It's because the 2013 theme doesn't "play nice" with mobile browsers. If you choose the Classic or 2010 theme at the bottom left of the screen it will work fine.
Can you post a screenshot? I'm curious if it will show up in there. If it is just in how the Nexus 7 renders the site, there isn't much to do about that. As others have said, you can either choose another theme (lower left-hand corner) or use the XDA app.

JavaScript related.. if you remove javascript in the browser settings than it works fine. but then the quick links pull downs dont work and things cease to function correctly. I contacted simms about the same thing the OP is talking about and that was the only other solution than going back to the horrid 2010 theme.
That same thing happen to me after I installed the eclipse logo in my signature. I had to ditch the logo to get the screen back to normal.
I had this foggy look when I browsed XDA on Dolphin Browser too, I assumed it was done so XDA could discourage us from browsing and to use their app instead.
Hi all, new Nexus 7 user here! I'm really liking this device and its definitely a keeper. So far, I think I've dodged most of the known issues such as screen lift, dead line of pixels, sound issues, etc.
One thing I'm noticing, or maybe I'm paranoid, is that I "feel" my battery is draining somewhat fast (compared to my iPad 2).
I'm not running a lot of widgets, only a clock widget, weather widget, and settings toggle widget. Also have sound boost and terminal, which I think are also running since they're always shown in the notifications center. I can't provide a screenshot since I'm new and it won't let me, but here are the stats:
28% and Discharging
1d 12h 7m 30s on Battery with screen taking up 77% (~33% brightness I think, the screen is really bright by the way!)
Time On (Screen) 4h 35m 1s
Basically all my use has been web browsing, via Chrome (tilt thing turned off) and Dolphin HD, and maybe 20 minutes of light gaming. I don't have Push Email turned on, its on Manual.
Anyway, if anyone could provide any insight as to whether my battery performance is on par or not, I'd really appreciate it!
Close terminal when you're not using it.
I get about 6 hours screen on time. Your battery seems fine, idle time with wifi also uses battery so by the time it runs out you'll have like 5 and a half hours plus the idle time. About normal.

Hi, thanks for your reply! I have terminal on because I'm currently doing the manual fix for smartdimmer issue. I'm not sure if turning off terminal would kill the fix, I'll go and tweak around a bit.
I just don't understand how various review sites are saying it lasts 9+ hours though, seems a bit out of reach for me currently.
It can definitely last that long with use, some users have reported that. Likewise, don't think anything is wrong with your device.

Thanks for the vote of confidence! I've seen from the battery post various users posting very high battery life, and it all made me very shiny-eyed! Haha. Anywho, I guess I should just go and enjoy this thing instead of being all OCD.
I'm actually getting a little bit worse than that myself, so I wouldn't be alarmed at all
And this is my 3rd Nexus 7 and all of them have had similar battery life to yours.
Thanks for the reply. Feeling much more confident now.
I am using auto brightness and my room condition is usually on darker side these days so I am getting very good screen times although I have turn of prism feature of Tegra 3 which used to cause over exposed colors during and after video play back. Turning off prism does hurt battery a bit but I am still getting very good screen times using xda app, chrome and YouTube. It might be the reason that mostly my room is on darker side and I am on auto brightness and the screen does not have to pump high brightness all the time rather only when required.
I am attaching some photos and in this particular instance I noticed that I didn't use my nexus 7 for 10-11 hours after fully charged and of course unplugged from charger. There was zero drop in battery percentage for those 10-11 hours although the screen time was around 23 mins during that time because of apps refreshing etc which you can also see from screen shots. It seems that very easily I am going to get 8+ screen time which is very impressive of course when I play games in between then it goes down to 5-6 hours screen time. This is the first instance where I have not played any games. People do say the battery consumption is not linear but so far it is relatively linear for me.

I do get full bars of WiFi and I don't have any problem with WiFi which some people are reporting and this does play and bigger role that is when your WiFi signal is weak then your tablet has to use more juice out of battery in order to make an effort to enhance the signal strength. I am sitting 15 feet from router most of the time.

This update is super awesome B| there are no bugs so far, but A little issue with the flash light in quick settings when turning It on and off some thing wrong happen and oh yes the charging speed is slow (as you said before) but still rocks! I played mc5 for about 2 hours and didn't heat with me
I played some Mortal Kombat X for about 30 minutes, and i have to say that it doesn't heat up as much as KK. The CPU temp was about 45 celsius.
yes i noticed the slow charging and the overheating also...
i think the Icons are big for my taste .
the native keyboard is small
i have an issue that i don't know if anyone else has it, several twitter apps fail to authenticate , the only one i had luck with is Plume
Echofon, Ubersocial, Twidere, & tweetings all couldn't log to twitter.
Anyone tried changing screen resolution in build.prop to 320?
Should make it look like z ultra. I did in kk and jb before, not tried it yet in case of bootloop and I'm nowhere near a pc!

I'm loving the update so far, best firmware I've used on the Z since! Performance is top notch and if this is the last firmware for the Z, I really don't mind.
Stable,but....
We have to slide notification bar 2 times to get through setting.
Icons are bigger compared to previous one.
In recent apps section close all button not attractive, and when we close all the apps, then it'll show 'no recent apps'. If we touch that screen it'll get through the screen. But this doesn't allow to get through, instead we have to click back button.

For the Quick Settings, I'm using this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.j4velin.notificationToggle
I know it's a small thing but I agree that sliding twice is annoying.
After 2 days of use, i can say that its the best firmware for our beloved Xperia z. Just 1 issue, changing is slower than kitkat.
Sent from my C6602 using xda app-developers app
Performance is OK but camera takes terrible pictures
i'm not sure, it feels smaller, still it's accurate and i don't hate it.
anyone else having the twitter apps issue?

this is strange, for me when i click the close all button , it goes to the home screen right away after closing.
also i like that now theres an option to make the home screen rotate (change orientation)
Can I get any info on the battery life?
Is it good/bad, how long can it last on average/heavy use?

I can't say much for heavy use as I haven't had much of a chance to play around with my phone (C6616, flashed with Flashtool) but the standby time is pretty good.
Last night, was at 100% at 11pm and was at 95% this morning at 7am. And that is without Stamina/Greenify/etc!
From what I've read so far about our Lollipop update is that doing a factory reset after getting the OTA update is absolutely essential.
