HTC model names (ITS A STORY!!!) - Hero, G2 Touch General

I was pretty bored and I was trying to remember all the popular HTC models when I found a pattern in the model names, here goes:
I was once an Elf (HTC Touch) going about what elves do. But, I was sick of life and had a Dream (HTC Dream, G1), a dream to be a Hero. Over the next few years, a never ending battle between us elves and the humans waged on. I decided to live my dream and learn the art of Magic to save the elves. I came in battle hardened and used my newfound Magic to destroy the humans (SGS3 slogan reference). I wiped out the entirety of the race and emerged a Hero. Following the battle, I went over to a shop to Tattoo the word "Hero". I became a Legend, forever remembered in the history books. Throughout the lands, I was the Desire of the hearts and minds of many. News of my Incredible successes spread like Wildfire and soon I had myself a wife called Aria. A generous friend gave me his EVO 4G and the next day, I brought Aria out for a drive. However, we met an accident and because the Evo 4 only had driver side airbags, Aria died.
Many months later, a Thunderbolt struck the city and flames spread like Wildfire S. I used my Magic to save the citizens and douse the flames. The city council was so grateful that they bought me a new EVO Shift 4G. The people of the city hailed me and soon, I became a Sensation (in other words, a celebrity). I was invited to social gatherings and danced the ChaCha and Salsa moves. In one of the gatherings, I met my soulmate... Rhyme. She was such a beauty and even had a glowing charm!
My popularity as a celebrity and hero was unmatched and soon, I became the One.

NEWS: Sprint HTC Supersonic - > HTC Evo - Summer 2010...

Probably not the right forum, but I thought I'd break the news to you guys:
It seems like that the rumored Sprint HTC Supersonic is gonna be called, "HTC Evo" and it will be released on Sprint in Summer of 2010.
How do I know this? Engadget's coverage is sponsored by Sprint, and even though it's not officially released, they already have a banner that popped up as an advertisement and linked to a Coming Soon Sprint page.
Just thought I'd share the news !
That phone looks very hot. If I didn't already have an HD2, I might have switched to Sprint!
Was just reading that and droling over engadget pictures and videos of this monster aka possiblity the best phone ever!
Would love to put the HTC desire keyboard on there and play with this baby!
Has anyone got any info on availability (GSM / Europe)?
The Supersonic/Evo caught my eye a few weeks ago, but I'm not sold on Android just yet. Most of what I hear is a pretty and fun OS, but not really for getting down and dirty for business. I dono, maybe I'm misreading.

It'll have ezinput like all the other HTC phones? Or does the Desire do something differently?
http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/23/htc-evo-4g-is-sprints-android-powered-knight-in-superphone-armo/
@mazzarin: If you look at those pics on engadget, it has the same keyboard as HD2..
I for one, hate that keyboard since it has this arrows on the bottom, and when in landscape they're on the right.. So typing in landscape means keyboard is not "centered" (if you know what i mean, i'm sure HD2 users do).
So optimal solution would be that desire HTC_ime, since it's also 800x480

Again, anyone has availability info (GSM / Europe)?

I do hope this come to Europe cause probably this is going to be my next phone. So long WinMo phones!!! M$ just digged their own grave with the WP7...
not sure about u but its going to be my next phone no more winmo
Cool beans. I will keep my HD2 and hope one day we get WM7 running on it. But come summer, I am getting this baby which will most likely become my primary phone.
Its like my prayers were just answered.
can we port the android software from HTC Evo to the HTC HD2
The Qualcomm 8650 chip does support GSM as well as CDMA, so is say there's a possibility for a GSM version.

You should try Android... it works for business just fine. I can't ever see going back to Winblows
I've got a Sprint Hero, and use it as my primary phone. Work, play, addictions. It's great at just about everything. (Android, the Hero is kindof lacking cajones)
I'm using an HTC HD2 on AT&T's network. I absolutely love the phone. Coming from a long line of qwerty keyboard packing HTC phones, getting used to typing on the screen has taken a few weeks. I have also been playing with a nexus one. I truly believe that Android will kill off Windows Mobile. This is a shame because the HD2 running WM6.5 is an extraordinary device. This device comes a little too late. HTC should have built something like this two years ago instead of that touch pro with the little teeny screen. I digress.
It will be a miracle if MS can pull off WM7. They are already so far behind Apple and Android. Even if WM7 is great, Android will be so far ahead by then in term of apps and numbers. Even of MS gives the operating system away for free, it may be a tough sell.
This is sad but the writing's on the wall. Heck, there isn't even a Kindle app for WM. It seems developers have already pronounced WM DOA before the announcement of WM7.
I'd love to use a GSM version of the Supersonic. CDMA is such a lousy network. The battery has to be much larger to last even a day. With Wimax going, the thing will be lucky to last half a day per full charge.

Cya On the Other Side!

Well I just sold my Samsung Epic and everything that goes with it. Just like my departure with HTC Hero and the HTC Vogue, I will let y'all know what my decision is for my next device.
I am going to CTIA in Orlando, Florida and I will be at the invitation only Sprint Event, so I'll get to see the new devices they are announcing. Depending on my use with the devices, rumors are HTC Evo 3D and Nexus S 4G, I will make my decision.
I am kinda leaning towards HTC Evo 3D because of it being HTC, which I now realize is better then Samsung, and it is 3D!! Without glasses.
But, the Samsung Nexus S 4G will be supported by Google and always have the latest software. So...it will really depend on which one I love more. Heck the Nexus S might end up being dual core!
Anyways, I'm sorry for the departure. I will still try to provide all the software I can get my hands on, and I will keep you updated on my status.

Well I have been defending Sprint and Samsung a little too long. I am going back to my HTC Vogue for awhile. Yeah, that old thing
I have been a HTC man from the start, but they disappointed me on both the HTC Vogue by leaving out OpenGL driver and then on the HTC Hero by ending it's support early for it, and never releasing 2.2. That's why I went to Samsung. I was hoping that the best phone by FAR would get excellent support. I was wrong.
I want to test out LG and Motorola Android devices, but Sprint isn't getting any GREAT Moto or LG devices, like the Atix/Bionix or the Revolution or the Optimus 3D. I'm with Sprint til the end. I will never switch to another company, unless T-Mobile and Sprint merge because I envy GSM devices ALOT. I don't care what happens. I love Sprint and I love their prices. I never have had a problem with them. I know I'm a Sales Rep for them, but I'm being completely unbiased here.
LG is still new to the Android game, so their support is undetermined. Will they be another Samsung/Motorola? Or will they be a HTC/Google? How about I just not take a chance.
From now on I will only buy Google flagship/supported devices or HTC devices. Sadly all the great devices from both of those go to GSM, except for the HTC Evo. The Evo blew away everyone and broke all the records. Now Sprint is probably going to do it again with the HTC Evo 3D or the Google Nexus S 4G.
Nexus S is Samsung, but it is Google supported. It will be the first CDMA Google device, if you don't count the Xoom, which I don't. The HTC Evo 3D will be the most supported by Sprint. Sprint will defintively be pumping money into that phone like no other. That's why I said I will really need to take some time and think about whether to choose the Nexus S 4G or the HTC Evo 3D. Both are going to be highly supported, the Nexus S more then the Evo 3D just because it's Google's FLAGSHIP CDMA device, but the Evo 3D will likely be the second device to get all the updates just like the first Evo did.
It will all come down to which one I like more in my hand. I will be writing a review for all the devices I try out on BriefMobile.com, and I will include my decision on which device I decide on.
Nexus S 4G vs. HTC EVO 3D
Which one will win my heart for the next 6 months? We will find out in 2 weeks when I get to see them up close and personal!
EDIT: Major +1 is Netflix support too. I have had Netflix for the past 5 months and I cannot live without it. My next phone must have it or else...

I put everything I ever find or review on there. A lot of exclusive material. And yes, come March 21st through March 24th, I will be writing non-stop because of all the stuff I will be reviewing down in Orlando. I have numerous briefing and meetings scheduled with alot of big name companies and their CEOs.
One that I cannot wait for is my meeting with LG on the 22nd at 4pm. I will get a look at the two new devices LG will be showcasing at CTIA. And my CoolPix S80 is ready to do some work
Good luck bro. Thanks for everything you've done. Ill definitely be checking out your articles on the next devices.

Any chance you can get CarrierIQ and the ACS SFR thread some attention by putting up a short news posting?
I really would like it if we could get some attention out there for it, even if it is just purely pointing out that it exists, and that a specific Sprint / Samsung combination has it.

If you have both, sell the Evo first. I would have loved to keep my Epic, but I need money and I want something else. Something with more support too.
The price is still being negotiated, but it is basically a done deal
I'm suprised that you would even consider an lg. those and htc are the most returned phones because people break them constantly. My wife went through 3 htc moguls and an htc touch pro in 6 mths and she is not hard on her phones at all those brands are garbage. I would suggest a moto phone tho if sprint ever gets one. The nexus s 4g does look inticing.....

One Last Stand

This is my first thread as an OP, and ironically probably my last in the HeroC forums.. I converted over to the 3vo yesterday (and yes the rumors are true, it is amazing), so this is somewhat of a farewell thread but also one last testament to how awesome this little hero is..
i was on vacation last week with my wife's family in the mountains of Tennessee, we get a cabin there every year.. but everybody in the family has a smart phones, there are 2 brand new windows phones on AT&T and the rest are sprint, 2 evos a nexus s, and a random asortment of other phones.. but they all have looked at the hero with disdain, because most had the hero stock (which we all know sucked balls), and only 2 of them actually let me root it, but wouldnt let me optimize it at all.. but they all looked at my little hero like it was a piece of trash, because they had all moved on to "better" phones.. but on to the point, up in this mountain there was hardly a cell signal, the AT&T phones had zero signal, and the others were hit and miss.. but, my hero had signal the whole time.. not only did it have signal, but i wireless tethered to the laptops so we could get on the internet.. so while their condescending "awesome" phones sat lifeless on their night stands, my hero reigned supreme and gave life to their devices..
i know that didnt really have a lot to do with anything, but thought i would throw it out there, this phone despite being left to die by sprint and HTC, continues to conquer where other phones fail.. my hero shall sit in a glass case as it watches over its android kingdom..
and many thanks to all of the people that have helped me around here, and hopefully i have returned the favor at some point.. i will still be floating around here especially until the 3vo forums settle down a bit.. but raise a glass to our hero, heres to the greatest of the phones that was never meant to be great..
Cheers!

Well said!!!....Not only did my Hero serve me well for 16 months in the face of all those who scoffed. It's now been put into service teaching my 11 year old the ways of Android.
It's amazing how many people revere their Heros. It's just like your first love. I went through the Palm Pilot thing, and this really reminds me of that. People posted about upgrading, but talked about the respect and admiration they had for their first device.
Good luck to you in 3vo land, sounds like that community is really getting going.

Now that I have the 3VO, I somewhat miss it for things like the jogball, root, custom ROMs. I sold it to a coworker so I still have visitation, lol.

HTC Hero 4G

Looks like its finally getting a replacement:
Unconfirmed rumours obtained from Pocketnow and a DLNA certificate for the device indicate that the upcoming HTC Kingdom is likely to be sold by Sprint as the HTC Hero 4G. Apparently, there are also indications of the device appearing in the EXIF data on photo-sharing sites.
We came across the HTC Kingdom in early May when a ROM of the device was leaked by the Chinese blog 911sniper. At the time not much was known about the device save for its qHD (540x960px) screen. Later Pocketnow released some updated specs indicating that the HTC Kingdom had a 1.2GHz Qualcomm MSM7630 processor, 768MB RAM, a 5MP camera with 720p video recording, and the device would launch with Android 2.3.3.
The rumours suggest that the HTC Kingdom will be launched by Sprint as the HTC Hero 4G, the carrier to originally launch the 528MHz, 3.2-inch HTC Hero, running one of the earliest Android builds (1.5 Cupcake). The Hero 4G has already passed FCC certification so it is likely we will be seeing the device sooner rather than later.

I just texted my dad that if I fix my hero (digitizer in it is bad) then I will keep it until this phone comes out, if I can't fix it, I'm getting his evo.
Most sources are saying single-core... I hope it's all lies. But then again I wish it could be the 1st triple core phone and be a REAL Hero! I know... I dream too big.
single core is by no means a turn-off to me. Id say given where its likely to be priced, this could be a great replacement for the hero. Sure dual core sounds all well and good, but Im buying a phone for a phone/pda and not a computer replacement.
Sweet ... love the Hero
I love my HTC Hero as well. I'm on the fence about maybe switching to the photon 4g I can get my 2 year upgrade August 1st.
I just flashed/upgraded my Hero for the second time from Froyo to Gingerbread a few weeks ago and I finally think I got all the kinks out worked out. Plus I just told Sprint I would stay with them for another 2 years.
Seeing how the HTC Kingdom would be coming to Sprint as the Hero 4G, this is tempting but I think I will stick with my Hero for a bit longer. I love this phone. When I saw the HTC Legend awhile back I thought that would be my next phone but sadly it was not on Sprint.
I just love the idea of a track ball on a phone that is one of the main reasons why I bought the Hero cause it had a track ball and I didn't want a Blackberry.
Heres hoping Sprint does release more Hero phones in the future maybe with a trackball as well...I just hope the trackball smart phone isn't dead yet and companies make more with trackballs on them.

I love the trackball, too. Especially on smallish screens like my current Hero. I think it's dead though, and I doubt we'll see it again primarily because it takes up a lot of space and requires a much bigger bezel which reduces screen size.

The Hero was a pioneer for Androids, HTC has to keep the Hero name alive! I love my Hero, wouldn't mind my next phone being the big brother/sister of my current phone.
When is this out?

My goodbyes.

I am sure none of you really know me but I have been around for awhile, first came here with an HTC Touch, loaded up window mobile roms and hacks.
Tested roms here and there for winmo 6.5 and android for the vogue, disappeared after downgrading to a blackberry then I came back when I got my HTC Hero.
I have posted few but learned alot, enough to run a small little gig of phone modifications on top of my freelance computer engineering. I have recently obtained an Evo Shift after my mom used my upgrade so I used my dads. After chopping off sense and enjoying the amazing performance of this 2nd Gen processor I have to say goodbye to this Hero forum and move onto the Shift as my new home.
I will probably be in and our picking up roms for my dad and running to the evo 3D for my mom but that's about it.
Sorry if this is a "who are you" kind of outting, just felt like saying goodbye :] take care.

It's the sense of connection and togetherness that makes our Hero CDMA forums so great. We have such an active and friendly community that rivals other forums. Just take a look at the Evo 3D forums and look at the chaos, disorganization, and swarm of noobs DEMANDING stuff. I know when I move into the Evo 3D forums, I'm still gonna come back and help my fellow heroc members. Have fun!
I am still running through these forums looking at what's new, sad thing is we are getting a large amount of new shift owners since bestbuy made it free for upgrade. They are all bugging us about rooting 2.3 which is currently not available but hopefully Revolutionary fixes this so they can stop filling up the sections.

Have fun!

I know I don't drop by to visit enough, but the Hero CDMA community is the best. Love my new phone, but love the Hero community even more.

I did my rooting Christmas day and loaded up aosp's gingerbread back before anything really worked. Then to his 2.2 ROM until 2.3 got more stuff. Good times.
