[Q] touch and hold delay length (touch & hold delay) - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
I am kind of impatient, and although I love my nexus 7 very much, I hate waiting for a left click.
Is there any way to alter the alleged "short" delay length to maybe... shorter? I'm thinking like 1/2 a second while right now it is at about 1.000000 second.
Or maybe a fast double tap = hold tap could be a solution. I'm willing to learn, but have the programming knowledge of a 3 year old (I managed to root my nexus today). If it is out there already that is awesome, if I need to do it myself, what would I do?
This pertains to both the OS (on the home screen changing wallpapers) and in apps (like when I'm in opera trying to get a freakin' background tab opened). (FWP)

Ever find a solution to this?

Wow, 2013 question -- 2022, I am trying to figure out the opposite (I have large flat fingers so I'd love to lengthen touch and hold longer than the long setting to stop launching things accidentally).

HTC Sense operation

Wondering if anyone else have a problem with the control of HTC Sense 2.5
Sliding from one tab to another is still pretty difficult for me (no I don't have motoric problems ) Sliding from the home tab to, say, the sixth tab on the right is not as easy as it seems. I can't point to the tab (which is the case for the first five tabs) but I have to scroll my way through a series of passing icons. Somehow this doesn't work for me.
Because I hated this the first time I lay my hands on the HD2 I got used to hiding all but 5 tabs so I can easily jump from one tab to another by just tapping the tab-icon. Now, because the amount of tabs is growing with every new rom, I thought I have to learn to swipe my way throught the tabs.
My question is, are there experienced users who are fluently in this. Can it be learned If so, do you have some tips and tricks.

[Q] HTC Sense Startup Duration

Hey guys,
So basically I do have a hell of a lot of apps and stuff install, and I was wondering, what's a decent about of time for HTC Sense to finish loading?
It take probably 3 mins from when I press the power button to when I can start moving around on the phone.
Is there a way to maybe decrease the time spent on the splash screen (not the animated one, I have a a cool gif and sound for that, but for the screen that follows)
I don't particularly mind that much coz at the end of the day its just 3/4 mins and then I'm on my way but I've been in such a tweaking mood the past few weeks with my HD2 I just keep wanting to make it perfect!
I noticed when I upgraded from Energy's 9th may to 13th may with the same maybe a few more mods installed, the duration of the "launching HTC Sense" has gone down by a minute or so.
Oh and also, I have extensvely checked the forums around for this but it seems all there is, is changing the ink shortcuts but that's not what I want. When I press the end end, it coz up with the quicklist, then I have to click turn off and then the slidetoshutdown comes up. I want to go straight to the sidetoshutdown screen and skip the quick list. I've tried changing the end key in settings>personal>buttons but still nothing
P.S Sorry for the duplicate thread on the Themes and Apps section, I just realised this thread is more suited for this subsection
Bump please

[WIP] Using search button/field as a D-PAD @ EVO 4G Dev forum

They've started a project over at EVO 4G Development looking at the possibility of using the fields around the search "button" as a optical track pad. Since the Desire HD is almost simular to the EVO 4G it could be done or both of them or none.
It can't be done? Try grabbing hold of an icon an move it down below the screen to the black area and you can see that you still hold on to the icon! It should be possible to read the area.
I would really like this function, but I'm not skilled enough to develop this.
Are you able to contribute? Check out the thread over at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=730693
Admittedly I've not looked through the whole thread - but the first few posts have raised a good point...
What's the point in turning it into a trackpad? It's got no more sensitivity compared to the rest of the touchscreen.
So therefore, using it to "select text" or "scroll in browsers" isn't of much use as you can do that on the touchscreen anyway.
However, if you can turn it into a regular D-Pad, thereby meaning that a press = a short movement, thereby acting like the arrow keys on the keyboard, then I can see there being some use to it.
....though after reading a bit further through it looks like people have realised this after all!
however, it's been 6 months and no real progress has been made...

Yeah, I guess it's actually a optical D-PAD, not a "touch pad" like a laptop, they're discussing. One of the things I really miss from my Desire is the possibility to move a character forwards or backwards to correct something when I type - and that would be a nice feature for the "search button" since I don't use it, only long press "search button".
If you could take a program like the Virtual Trackball from the market and read input from the search area instead of having a ball on the part of the screen you actually see.
And yes.. they haven't manged to accomplish much since the thread was started.. but I hoped that "Desire HD" people were more.. let me say skilled.. than EVO 4G users. If only one person with enough technical insight got interested in this, that would be enough.

Finally got my keyboard, but have some questions....

So, after having my TF for about 4-5 months, I decided to get the keyboard. Why not sooner? Well, I had a laptop and I wanted just a tablet - which I happen to love. However, I'm deploying (again) this week and I don't want to take a laptop and tablet.
I've researched some of this, but here's some of my questions....
1. Is there any way to swipe scroll with the pad? I use Google Currents and I noticed that left/right keys don't cycle through the stories. Instead of clicking and dragging I just swipe the screen. Any way to do that with the keyboard?
2. If I read the manual I can probaly figure this out, but what are the circles on some of the keys for? (1 and 6, up and down)
3. Not a question, but a statement, my palm always hits the track pad. Hit it twice since typing this.
4. Are there any cool tips and tricks with the keyboard? (aside from dropping a 750gb HDD in it)
1. two fingers on the trackpad left and right should change the page
2. they are just references to highlight reference keys
3. F4 (the 3 squares with the line through it toggles the track pad on and off
4. some guy made his chrome instead of brown
That's what I'm talking about. Thanks for the tips.
Anyone have anything else?
This thing is awesome, where have I been?! lol
One of my favorites is the back button is a right click. That and I was able to change the cursor from the circle to the pointer.
all thats mod-able too if your rooted
you can change functions with tasker and you can change the cursor to something less blue.
last tip is that when you are using the arrow rather than the circle multitouch gestures on the pad don't work although if you want i can throw together a package to make it look like the pointer and act like the circle
Hate to hijack it but I would be very interested in a file that gives you the arrow pointer but the multi touch of the circles
DESIRE HD using ER3BUS ASUS TRANSFORMER on KRAKD
Thanks for all the great advice!
To do the pointer mod, do I need to root?
I don't mind rooting, but I've everything set up exactly like I like it and you know what a pain it is to reinstall the apps, getting everything straight and logged in, etc.
You know what would be a cool mod... Automatically disable the touch pad after 10 keys (or something) are entered consecutively. Or the user can change the amount. Right now I turn off the pad manually before posting on here, but if it would recognize I'm typing something lengthy that'd be awesome. Is it possible?
haven't tested it yet but this should work just replaces the pointer_spot files with pointer_arrow files

and if it doesn't work flash this to get it back to normal

you do need root to do the pointer mod and having clockwork mod would be helpful just use nacho root it is not destructive to data so you dont have to resign in
1. push the silver slider and detach screen from dock.
2. notice jaws drop around you.
3. ????
4. profit

Im able to use the tablet for everything but highend gaming for portability and versatility it is fantastic.
Goodintentions has done a few hard mods to his docks, check it out for some ideas, I personally will be installing and additional set of batteries and a ssd, but am waiting because i will most likely be upgradingto the prime soon.
My only concern with having the tab without a pc is if it gets bricked, will you have access to a pc or mac where you are going...just in case.
Be safe on your deployment bro

General keyboard tip: search Google for Asus Transformer shortcuts! There are some pretty helpful keyboard shortcuts for many operations in different applications.

Good luck to you deploying, man. Half the guys I've installed the hard drive for are military guys who want to bring without hassle their movie collections with them.

GIFed Lock Screen

Hello there,
I'm a new registered user here but an old admirer of this forum. I hope I am of plus to this community in some way .
earlier this week, I've wondering in my thoughts while driving, and since long drives, alone, makes you question everything in life ( and long toilet sessions too ) I've came across some idea.
I've always been fascinated with picturing doors and windows and have them as wallpapers on my phone/lap/desktop. I use some now on my lock screen.
anyhow, I was wondering if creating a GIFed lock screen is possible. The idea is as follows:
-Lock screen of a Door/Window
-when pattern is drawn, it triggers the GIF to be played.
-Door/window opens, camera move towards door/window to enter.
-slowly walks into homescreen ( not slowly slowly, but for dramatization purposes )
Is that possible to do, It would be really awesome if it is.
Many thanks to y'all.
I'm not a robot :silly:
