Ok.I am in a totally crazy situation. When i call somebody they won't be able to hear me and i can't hear them.Basically in a call my mic and ear piece do not work. However if I put it on Speakerphone, both mic and speaker phone works. Also I can't play music through the speakerphone but I can play it through the headsets that I have.I am guessing that this is a problem with the chip which fails to understand when a headset is plugged in and when it is not.
Now my issue.I don't reside in US from where I bought this device. Right now I am using an app called Soundabout that manually changes the switching mechanism. It functions crudely as I have to switch it back every time I get a call. I was thinking of a replacement but here is another problem.
I have a feeling this is a water contact issue.Yesterday I spilled some water on my pants accidently.I immediately took the phone out of my pocket.I have a protective case,so i wasn't very worried about it.But now thinking back this might have been the issue. Now should I RMA it back and what are the chances that they will find this a water issue??Or should i stick with this and give it for repair locally??Local Repair is going to be hard..What should i do??
Your best bet is, if u can RMA it.. then do so. Even if they dont give u a new phone, at least they will repair it.

My mom drop my JAMin from a 3 feet table onto tile.
Luckily the phone wasn't scratched or crack. Then I realize the microphone stopped working.
Tried basically everything..
What should I do?
There is a known problem with these devices and the headphone jack. Usually I've read about people having trouble with the audio, but maybe in your case it is the mic. Try plugging in the headset/mic and see if the mic is working. If so, try unplugging it and plugging it in again several times and see if that solves the problem. Otherwise, I'm afraid you might have to send it in for repair :-(
I had a friend using Dopod 818Pro. She dropped it and the speaker stopped working. She has to send it for repaired.
try to utilize your warranty service ..just dont tell them the device fell down.
something weird just happened today the phone has no sound what so ever screen taps, playing music on speaker, incomming and outgoing call no sound no mic on both ends, the only sound I get is the ringtone when someone calls any clue?? I tried a hard reset twice but nothing only way now for me to make or receive calls is to use the headset then there's sound and mic.
after some searching the post I guess I have the common rear speaker problem I try opening it and touching the wire but no go I guess I have to send it back. Now heres the problem I'm in canada and I bought this in hong kong I have the recipe and everything and I pretty sure this has the standard manuafactory warranty but I have jester rom on this do I need to flash it back to the o2 because I'm sure I can't I have the G4 model and can't downgrade any suggestions?
After some tinkering I'm thinking that its the headphone jack thats causing it I think there might be some sort of sensor in there to let the phone know a headset is in and now the phone thinks that theres a headset even though theres none because when I recieve a call the ringtone goes off. I would open it but there 4 screws holding the plate together and on one screw theres a sticker that reads void if remove and I'm scared that if I'm wrong O2 won't fix it if and when they anwser my email.
I have the same problem with my Dopod 818 Pro bought in Malaysia. So I ended sending it to pocketctech.com for repair btw I am in Canada too.
how much did it cost no including shipping and is pocketpctech canadian or american??
fixed it kind of well heres my story after opening it up and having no idea what to do I put it back together got a little pissed and jammed a screwdriver in there now my my headset only has sound from one side, so I said F it and decided I was going to take it to a cell shop when I have time to get it fix since o2 asia is no help, when I was at work I was thinking what could be wrong I know that my speaker works and I'm sure there's some kind of switch in the headset hole so when I got home I decided to find a small pin and bend the front of it a little so it looks like a very small hook. after that I was jaming it in the hole (LOL) anyways I was right theres a small switch in there if you are look at in my view the screen is facing down the switch on the left behind a metal place, to my supprise my speakers came on yay!!!. But this is not the right way to activate the switch since if the speakers on and you plug in the headset the headset don't work lol you have to use the pin again to switch it back but then the speakers stops working. I did this a few times to confirm the switch is there but don't blame me if you try this and screw up your headset plug hole.
This is the weirdest thing/worse thing that can happen to my wing so far....
I was on the phone talking like normal, everything ran fine, everything was perfect. The next phone call I get, I can't hear the other person...I'm yelling HELLO!?!? HELLO?!!...I thought it was their crappy flip phone. However, it was MY PHONE.
So everytime, I had to make a phone call or receive a phone call I have to put the person on speaker phone to hear them.
I did a hard reset and ERASED everything and that still didn't fix my problem.
So, I took a deep breath in and took apart the wing to check if there was a loose connection where the Ear Phone Speaker was connected to the board. Everything looked fine and un-plugged the speaker and used the Dust-Away Can on it and put it back in...and it still didnt work. I took disconnected the speaker again and just threw it against the table cause I got so mad. Connected it again. and Viola! It works again! I was extremely happy until....
Today during school it happened again, I couldn't hear the person, I did hard reset (thinking it was because of all the mods) but it wasn't. Then I took the speaker out again and did the same thing...but still doesn't work.
Any ideas guys? You think the speaker is just blown? I've only had the phone for 3 weeks. Any idea where I can buy a replacement speaker? (if you need a picture of the speaker, let me know and i'll post it)
Thanks for the help!
That happened to me... and it was because I was holding my Wing and a water bottle in the same hand, and apparently, I got some moisture in the speaker... and shortly after, the touchscreen stopped responding.. so I took it back and got a new one.
only thing i can suggest is if you figure out the part number for the speaker (either the HTC part number or the manufacturer part number) then search with that term on google and I am sure you will find atleast a few wholesalers and retailers from Hong Kong that sell that product. Did this on numerous occasions for lcds, antenae, and various parts for random electronics.
Did you try throwing it again?
yeah I did.
I guess the speaker is just blown. I went to a Cell Phone Repair place and they gave me a BlackJack speaker, its the same plugs but a little thicker, so theres a little bulge where the ear handset is.
How much did that cost ya?
Hy guys.
I bought this nice HTC Magician and it has a little problem. Speaker at the back of case works very well( I can play music and all), but the small speaker at the front panel( above the screen) for answering the calls doesn't work... You can't hear anything...
When I turn ON Speaker(back side) I can hear the caller, but and everyone around me....
And I can also normaly use it when headset is on...
In the mobile service they said that they have changed front speaker and that problem is somewhere on the motherboard...
Is there any salvation for this...

Assuming the service centre have changed the speaker for a good one, and they have cleaned the contacts on the motherboard, then they are most likely correct that it is a motherboard fault. Quite an unusual fault as normally earpiece speaker problems are either poor contact with the board or a faulty earpiece speaker.
If it is the motherboard, then a repair is not economic and could turn out to be impossible in some cases. Clearly the sound circuit is OK in as much as you get output using an earpiece. However, there could be an amplifier fault or a simple crack in the board connections. Without testing there is no way to know.
You could dismantle and check the connections (often the speaker has springy contacts that touch onto the motherboard). You can tweak them out a little and claen the motherboard contacts. BUT, if you trust the service centre then it would be a faint hope. If you don't trust the service centre (sometimes they give excuses because the job would take too much time for the amount they can charge - particularly on older devices), then you could dismantle (Always risky - unless you are familiar with this kind of thing - it could end up worse than when you start!!)
Mike
Mike, thank you very much...
I supposed that they probably didn't check everything as they should. Because hey're not officialy service or even to have experince with this devices. When servicer saw Magician he said " Oh this is complicated"... That's why I think that they even don't know how to fix the speaker or that they have put ther right one speaker. I didn't want to give them device to testing because I saw that they don't have experince as I said.
So I'm taking it, nesxt week, to service where I know that people are professionals...
I'll give feedback what i've done..
I just noticed this problem with my phone. When I make or receive calls, there's absolutely no sound (even with the incall volume turned to the maximum value). However, If I use a headset, I can get sound. If I also switch to speakerphone, I can sound.
Do I have a hardware problem or is this something minor I can fix on my own? thanks
Earpiece went out, head on over to one of our Service and Repair stores and we'll fix ya up with a new earpiece. We will install it while you wait.
Now, this is a harvested part, so in the event we don't have one to harvest they'll order ya a complete replacement phone from the warehouse, but we normally preharvest these, at least at my repair location.

I figured as much. I was hoping it was just a software issue. I'll go get it fixed tomorrow
