I just noticed this problem with my phone. When I make or receive calls, there's absolutely no sound (even with the incall volume turned to the maximum value). However, If I use a headset, I can get sound. If I also switch to speakerphone, I can sound.
Do I have a hardware problem or is this something minor I can fix on my own? thanks
Earpiece went out, head on over to one of our Service and Repair stores and we'll fix ya up with a new earpiece. We will install it while you wait.
Now, this is a harvested part, so in the event we don't have one to harvest they'll order ya a complete replacement phone from the warehouse, but we normally preharvest these, at least at my repair location.

I figured as much. I was hoping it was just a software issue. I'll go get it fixed tomorrow

Hello
I am really beginning to hate this lousy phone, I have now lost all sound. I picked up the phone to remove some software and noticed I was getting no system sound. So, I opened media player no sound from the music, plugged in headphones and the music was playing. I made a phone call, could speak to and hear the person on the line, I asked them to call me back and nothing.
I have searched the board and found some people saying that the phone sometimes gets stuck in headphone mode, but I was not using the headphones. Anyway I have spent the past 5 minutes inserting, twiddling and removing headphones, but I can not get the sound back, guess it must be hardware failure.
Any ideas or similar problems out there?

I've had this a couple of times and found that a soft reset will sort it out.
I have similar problem--it seems to be the connection to the speaker/ringer. I can get some sound by tapping the top of the case. The small speaker for the earpiece is not affected. Tried resetting anyway to no avail. Will probably send back for repair soon. I am keeping it on vibrate now.

Paul, how long did you have your phone from Orange when it first happened?
I have had mine around 1 month now, I have 'Soft Reset' and 'Hard Reset' but the problem is still there. Did you get yours directly from Orange or a dealer, have you spoken to either?
I am going to call the dealer tommorrow and try to get them to send a swap out, this is an obvious defect if it has died in a month.

Yes resetting does not seem to work, try to get a swap out if you can, I am going to try tommorrow, it has to be a manufacturing fault.

I think you are right, it does appear to be a connection fault. I started media player tapped near the speaker a few times and got a second or two of music then it died again, it gives stuttering sound when tapped.
Repair Info
My Dopod 818 Pro unfortunately also has the same problem. Anyone have any advise on the best way to reach Dopod? I am living in NY and I bought the phone in Wanchai. I tried emailing them, but there has been no response. Thanks in advance.
Hi
Just sent my phone back for a new one, Orange confirmed it was a hardware fault and said I was entitled to a replacement phone. Seems that this is a known issue with the Prophet. They would not say though if it was just part of a bad batch, or generally bad manufacturing. I guess we will see when your phones begin to fail.

Hi,
It happens now and then - not more than around one a month. Not a hardware fault in my case just windows doing its occasional bug thing.

I reckon it's probably a bad batch. I got mine just after they came out and hardware wise it's been fine.
Basically when people ring or i ring them they hear an awful scratching noise on their side of the conversation. I cant hear it but I ring another phoned and listened in, the more i talk, the more the crackles happen. Movement of the phone (i.e me walking) causes the crackles to happen.
This is only fixed if i plug the headset in far enough for both earpieces to work, but not as far as it can actually be plugged in. Would the Radio version have anything to do with it or do I need to buy another headset after just 18 days of use
OS:5.2.21869 (21869.5.0.82)
ROM:1.61.468.1 (74237) WWE (the turkish one)
Radio:2.06.51.07

First off all try switching the headset. The headset has 6 months of waranty so just bring it back to the shop and ask for a new one. (ps: they can switch with one in a new box, just don't give up at the first try).
If that isn't working then flash a new radio but I'll doubt it.
It can also be the connector in your HD2 but for that the only solution is sending your device in repair
ok thanks for the advice mate. Hope i don't have to send it back but we'll see. I'm going to go to my t mobile shop tomorrow. would you recommend me flashing back to an old rom and radio incase they check it or should there be no need for them to do that.

no mostly the members of an electronic shop or mobile shop don't have that knowledge or don't get paid to check that
If you send them back to repair then you'll probaly be best to flash back a stock one, just in case...

Me too but no one seem to find these issue important, cause HTC hasent done nothing about it, I guess is the privilege that comes with a 500 euros devise
i got this too.
seems if it happens at start, then the whole call is crap
if it's clear, then all clear...
Anyone else having this issue? This is a straight up legit T-Mobile phone with stock ROM and WM6.5 upgrade. I've noticed that calls through the speaker are now distorted, blue tooth clarity remains fine though.
Hmmm...no one?

Mine after the upgrade sounds fine
I've had the same issue the entire time I've had my Dash. Right out of the box I had distortion and a crackling in the speaker - i thought i might have had a bad connection on that particular phone call. After flashing - about a month agio, it's continued. As frustrating as TMobile makes me at times, I dont want to try to hash it out with them. I might reflash to see if that helps but I'[m afraid it wont

Could be hardware related, if the contacts are dirty or the speaker is not set properly it will crack.. could be a bad batch of devices.. get a new one under warranty if possible. I got three Dash 3G's the first day they came out and all three sound fine.
Finally couldn't take it anymore and took it back to the T-Mobile store. The new one should arrive this week.
Hi Rotagilla, would be interested to hear if the new one had the same loudspeaker distortion. mine does the same thing and has done from new. i just thought it was a crap quality speaker

The replacment phone just got sent back and I'm now on #3. The same issue happened again...calls started off very clear but then seemed to degrade to the point where unless I was using BT, the audio quality was terrible. I'm not upgrading the phone to WM6.5 at this time, I'm going to wait and see if the same thing happens again. BTW, the TMO rep I dealt wth most recently was excellent...really first class all the way.
Looks like the speaker will continue to be a last resort. BT seems the only way to get clear reception. thanks.....i dont like my chances with a replacement from Telstra. The only thing that disappoints me with this one is not being able to edit the menu items and not having the Voice Dialling tags. replacing it with the Voice Command is a quantum leap backward, otherwise a great phone.
Well the most recent replacement has started doing the same thing. I did not upgrade to WM6.5 and this one lasted the longest before giving in to the speaker distortion gremlin. Pretty bummed about this, guess I'll just have to live with it.
Ok.I am in a totally crazy situation. When i call somebody they won't be able to hear me and i can't hear them.Basically in a call my mic and ear piece do not work. However if I put it on Speakerphone, both mic and speaker phone works. Also I can't play music through the speakerphone but I can play it through the headsets that I have.I am guessing that this is a problem with the chip which fails to understand when a headset is plugged in and when it is not.
Now my issue.I don't reside in US from where I bought this device. Right now I am using an app called Soundabout that manually changes the switching mechanism. It functions crudely as I have to switch it back every time I get a call. I was thinking of a replacement but here is another problem.
I have a feeling this is a water contact issue.Yesterday I spilled some water on my pants accidently.I immediately took the phone out of my pocket.I have a protective case,so i wasn't very worried about it.But now thinking back this might have been the issue. Now should I RMA it back and what are the chances that they will find this a water issue??Or should i stick with this and give it for repair locally??Local Repair is going to be hard..What should i do??
Your best bet is, if u can RMA it.. then do so. Even if they dont give u a new phone, at least they will repair it.
Guys, I think I can get your opinion on this. I have a problem while calling, I have a little call volume so I have to set call volume rocker at highest, but when I do that, my speaker does absolutely terrible cracking sounds and during call I can literally hear that annoying buzzing noise like the wind or how to describe that...it is really annoying while talking to someone. It does that even while ringing and waiting for someone to pick up. It is not my provider fault I tried in another phone (and the signal is full) I am on stock 4.4.4, network is set on Auto (3g/2g) because when it was on auto (4g/3g/2g) my battery went down in minutes....do you have any idea? Mine is that it is somehow HW fault, I´m uploading a photo where you can see the speaker is higher on the left side and on the right it is completely inside phone... Thank you...
My guess is that the speaker grill is not properly seated, so when the volume is high, the grill vibrates making the noise... just my 2c. If it was me, I will have it replaced immediately.
They won't replace it I asked. Only thing they offered me to send it to service centre. But that means I won't have phone for 2 weeks at minimum. I don't know what to do. These thing with new and really expensive phones makes me angry. What about yours, it's completely straight no up no down? Call is perfectly clear? Btw, do you have a noise during the call in the background or you just hear the one you are calling with and when he is silent there is no noise? Thanks, I have to ask in detail because none of my friends have this phone..
speaker grill is level & straight
i have the sm-N910G variant. The static is not present when i call. Silent is noone is talking, even with full volume. The grill on the speaker pop's out but is the same height left or right side, so i think your's is deff. a problem, prolly the cause of your noise that someone mentioned. I think it's worth the 2 weeks to get it looked at n fixed. Borrow any cheap old phone to use in the meantime. Send your phone in without your SIM card. Im betting noone else has the grill thing like yours. My 2cent's also
I´ve already sent it to service centre, that was the only option, they didn´t agree with replacing. So I did that. But I was looking at few Note 4, which are free to see and try at certain shops, and two of them (T-Mobile & Orange) have the speaker just like mine. Another one was nicely out & straight (that was at Samsung store)...
Well, it came back, service centre says everything is OK....:crying:

Just nothing. They claim it is perfectly OK. All I can say, bastards. Many people complain about this service centre (it´s an original authorised Samsung´s centre) that they return products as OK, but they are not OK in real...but, what should I do. Just nothing. (like the service centre with my phone)...

Send it a different service center. Thats what I do when they dont fix my phones. Also, if this happens with every call, SHOW them the problem, dont just tell them.

This is the only Samsung´s authorised service centre. I´m thinking about posting this photo and commentary of service centre to Samsung´s Facebook page and see how they reacts..
