Galaxy Nexus is HUGE

So today I stopped by phones 4 u on the high street and had a look at the Nexus. I love the design but my God it is big. There's a pic attached to show you the size comparison. The screen is so much better than the XL but its a bit disappointing that it still has a 5MP camera when the XL has an 8MP Camera.
I've fallen for it and will hopefully have mine in my hands tomorrow Will submit a system dump asap. But still gotta figure out how to root it :?

Which store? I gave up my search in the end accepting that it was only the Oxford St store in London that had stock. Was that not right?

Should've really demonstrated how big it is by holding a N1 next to it

Do you honestly need to take 8mp pictures? You do realize that MP is only the size of the image and has absolutely nothing to do with the actual image quality right?

Exactly....look at a picture taken with a very old Nikkon D40 and compare it with any size MP point and shoot, it's not even close in quality. This is like everyone complaining about the lack of an exynos processor, doesn't seem to have any lag in any video or review I have seen. Specs are fine to use, just need to keep them in perspective and use them appropriately.

Thank God someone else knows what I'm saying. The lack of understanding is just amazing to me. People should really do research before talking. As far as I know about the processor, that the processor its using can typically be way overclocked. Plus now that we have full hardware acceleration, things will run very very well.

TI omap 4460 is a 1.5ghz processor that is underclocked for the GN, hence it can be clocked to that for sure and probably up to 1.8 or so. They designed ICS to be optimized for TI Omap processors. Now, I am less impressed with the gpu that comes with it, it is definitely the lowest powered of the top mobile chips. This is a beast of a phone and I hope we see some news on an HSPA version in the US.

You could just go to http://www.phone-size.com/?s=1,12,3 and then scroll out one or so clicks and the phone will be "life sized". However for demonstration purposes it still does a fairly good job.

LOL. Yeah, it is big. I just visited that site vonapets url'd and compared all my current phones (N1, SGS, Nexus S, Galaxy S II, Thunderbolt, Droid Charge) to the Galaxy Nexus: http://www.phone-size.com/?s=12,13,65,7,85,3 , and it's not much larger, and actually ~25% thinner, than the largest of my phones (the Charge) which fits easily in my slacks and jeans front pockets. Someone wearing painted on jeans might have issues I guess.
The Charge and SGS II are just a little too large for my hands to use comfortably one-handed. My thumb can't reach the bottom left of the phone without putting it in a precarious balanced position. The big 4.3" screens are great, though. I'm afraid the new Nexus might cross that threshold of being to big to be practical for me, but I'll still probably get one. LOL

This attitude. Now that everyone has read a few articles on sensor technology it seems EVERYONE feels the need to school people on cameras.
Yes, it's true, MP doesn't have that much to do with it. But the Galaxy Nexus camera is piss poor. It produces results almost identical to the NS camera, which i feel was essentially the same as the N1 before it. Look how far mobile cameras have come in the HTC titan and the iPhone 4S. For a flagship phone in this price range, this is simply unacceptable. For Samsung, even moreso as the shooter in the GS2 is much better. No wonder people make the 5MP 8MP comparison.
People need to stop being apologetic towards companies, and start calling them out on their mistakes. The processor in the Galaxy Nexus is acceptable, but the GPU is really not up to par with today's superphones. The plastic case construction is an improvement over the fisher-price NS, but still cheap garbage compared to the designs of HTC and Apple, yet they charge the same price.
Enough. Stop trying to school people and school the companies instead. It's the only way we'll get better products.

Conclusion:
Well, folks, it should have become clear by now that the Galaxy S III will once again rule the land of Android, at least until a better contender arrives on the scene. For now, however, the powerful HTC One X isn't capable enough to question its leadership. Although HTC's offering is arguably better when it comes to appearance and overall design, the Galaxy S III is unbeatable as far as user experience goes and that's what's more important. Why would you need a good-looking phone that takes mediocre images and video, and as a number of nasty issues in its software? Meanwhile, the Galaxy S III may not be the most beautiful phone ever, but it does everything right in terms of functionality, meaning it will cause you far less trouble during day-to-day usage.
Once again, HTC's finest will have to play second-best to the Galaxy S phone of the year.

Hi bala, just for fun, I temp. switched back to my gs2 and now I see what I'm missing in my amoled screens.I currently own HTC one x and I've owned galaxu nexus in past. I hate to agree that I'll have to sell my one x once galaxy s3 will come out. I miss the amoled display.

heard similar feedback from many here

I don't see why this matters so much, I've seen the Note and One X in person and both have amazing screens, I cannot even tell that the Note is a Pentile screen or the One X is LCD. I mean at this point whocares? Are your eyes really good enough that you're going to notice the difference in normal usage or do you just want one to be better than the other for bragging rights?
It isn't like the major difference of 3GS to iPhone 4, both screens look pretty much the same to me and that was on the Note, so surely the GS3 has a better display than the Note.

Yea right! Nice "proof" . Didn't you see the REAL proof already in this very forum? Japanese and Intl Z have the SAME screen.

Once again, the diffence is the UI! One version had an "all black" UI and the other "grey-ish" (don't now why Sony did this btw). Also keep in mind that te screensettings could be slightly diffent (max brightness and auto brightness etc) and ofcourse the viewing angle seen from the camera. But hey, if you believe it's different ... sell yours and buy a Japanese one

lol.....the reason why i posted this was because i disputed the other "proof"

I don't think so. Yes there were some Zs with poor screens but most retail units have great screens, exactly similar to Japanese units. Otherwise you would have had way more replies here from actual owners. But you see, almost all owners are happy with the screen quality.

While the Xperia Z screen indeed is not as good as HTC's SuperLCD technology, it's still really awesome for everyday use. Had the Xperia Z for a week now, and so far me and my friends have ZERO complains about the screen.

Docomo version is always closest to the camera even when the phones switch places the camera switches as well. The same movie is posted dozens of times already it is not proof just because a blog reads xda and decides to post it on the blog.

This is just sad from SONY..Treating its customers differently..IPS panels for japan only..why not see ur phones in japan only?? Ridiculous!!

Dude, did you even go through user reviews and the new videos of retail Z on Youtube ? I mean just don't post anything without analyzing. Japan and Intl Z have same screens. A small batch of Z (mostly non retail) have poor screens doesn't mean you draw out silly conclusions
If you were right, we should have had 10 threads already of owners complaining about poor quality screens. But how many threads are here where an actual owner has claimed the screen is poor ? ZERO.

The videos proved it. The reviews proved it as well. Gsmarena is proving it. And sony is proving it by making an ips display for their japanese phones. The xperia z display is absolute **** for a flagship phone. For any nonbudget phone in fact. The delusions are running super high in the xperia z forum, culminating in the constant trolling from users with literally "fanboy" written in their username.

I find it better than s3 and one x tough

My screen is amazing. I prefer it to my note 1 screen by far! I don't see what all the fuss is about?

Looking to swap Xperia Z for HTC ONE

I have had my Sony Xperia z for over a week now. I have been so impressed with the phone, it's speed, interface etc. The sound could be better but overall it's hard to complain. Defiantly the best phone I've owned.
Vodafone have kindly aloud me to trade my Xperia for the new HTC ONE at no cost or anything, straight swap. I know of HTC's recent poor history. My friends and family have had old HTC's (2/3 year old models) and they have been extremely poor in terms of reliability.
Just looking some opinions on the phones. I have read and watched many reviews on both phones and the HTC almost always comes out on top on each categorie (design, speed etc)
Considering it's a straight swap is it worth it and why. I'm a heavy phone user and I understand that phones with specs as close as these two are to each other that the differences is down to opinion. But would like some more expect (better knowledge or HTC ONE user help)

All what I know about HTC that I had evo 3d before and it was really bad.
But my brother now have HTC one x, and it is fantastic.

The phones are near enough identical really, both premium high quality designs, really comes down to whether you want water proofing or ultrapixel. Lots of my friends have had HTCs and really hated the reliability and software support whereas Sony is markedly mote developer friendly.

Its simple...Aluminium vs glass, Ultrapixels vs megapixels, 4.7 vs 5. These are the main differentiating factors that really matter..real world performances have reached a saturaioon point now and even S3 feels smooth. Your Choice!

I think I will choice htc one in many aspect.Good viewing angle screen,good speaker ,greater performance and other else（sorry for my bad English）.

It really isn't, the Ultrapixel camera still has a megapixel count.
1 Megapixel is 1 Million pixels.
1 Ultrapixel is 1 Pixel.
an Ultrapixel is just a much larger pixel, the HTC One is about 4Megapixels, those 4Million pixels have a much larger size than the 13.1 million pixels the XZ has.
The total pixel surface area for HTC Ones camera is approx. 16mm^2 where the Exmor RS at 13.1Megapixel is approx 16.4mm^2

Specs and Reviews are better in case of HTC one. Its hard to say about the reliability though as its been released in very few markets.

The viewing angles issue is forever popping up. But seriously anyone that views there phone side on is in need of help.

In my mind there is no doubt. I simply love the XZ.
It has totally blown me away with it's speed and the screen, in my opinion, is awesome.
And im amazed about how long the battery actually lasts.
The HTC One is a nice phone, no doubt, its quite a beautiful phone, but so is the XZ. Design wise its a question of do you prefer glass or aluminium.
HTC is really proud about their speakers, but in reality, i would never use them, i always use a headset.
And their camera, i've seen pictures from it, and im not at all impressed.
So im sticking with my XZ.

Even S2 is still good for normal use. In the end it boils down to user experience. But for me, either phones are good. I am actually deciding on XZ and One as well. I saw the XZ in person already and I will see the One in person first before deciding. Some user reviews are exaggerated and biased so it's better to see it in person. S4 is almost the same as S3 so I want to try a different brand after my S2

I did a swot analysis and eventually bought the Xperia Z. You may refer to theOP here

And then reach your own analysis and conclusion. I had choices between the SXZ, HTC 1 and the HTC Butterfly. Hope this can help you (remain on the SXZ).

Have to say the Xperia has changed my mind about Sony. I would probably pick the Sony over the HTC Instagram phone to be fair.
Low light performance of my Z seems to match what i;ve been seeing from HTC samples and the small shots in the daytime wouldnt cut it for me.
I am constantly zooming in on photos to check out people's facial expressions in photo's as there's always something hilarious in shots of night's out.
Aside from that, the water proof aspect of the Z is what's truly sold me. Couldn't have another phone i'm constantly worrying about dropping in puddles or wrecking in the shower.
The ear piece volume on mine is really clear now, for some reason it got better over time and is really loud and clear now. The speaker is loud enough as well. Although i've bought a portable speaker and use that for music and speaker phone it's awesome.

Even if you just want to show your friends something on your phone, they will be looking at the phone from above like 95% of the time.

Much prefer Xperias. Have had the few generations. And when Sony no longer support us with firmware upgrades. Well we are never short of custom Roms on xda. And some of the best devs are behind are XZ already.

You've already experienced the phone's performance and it seems u r satisfied with it. Htc 1 is a real master piece but the Z is unique! I'd say keep it and enjoy!

Note 2 vs Xperia Z1

The question is : Should I sell my Note 2 and get Xperia Z1? I have the Note 8 3G, so having two "notes" is a little superfluous.

Z1 seems like the perfect phone on paper, at least for me. Wait till users get it so u know what is in about it.

I'm actually thinking about the Note 3 or the Z1. The Z1 looks fantastic! But I think I'd miss the functionality of the S-Pen. I'm going to wait for a few reviews to make a decision. Not to mention I won't be buying a phone until Dec. at the earliest! haha.

I'm thinking of Sony Z1, LG G2, iPhone 5S

if the Z1 speaker were not so low , and the screen was not covered by a protection film that gets easily scratched, and if removed the sony logo gets removed too, I would have bought the Z1

If I were you I should certainly not buy a Iphone. Go for the Z1 or G2.

IPhone is good if you don't know or don't want to know anything about phones and customization.

There are good small phones with Android. But it's your choice.

lol good luck with crappy Sony displays
imo N3 or LG G2 are better choices

LG G2 is a great choice, actually. But like it's been said, you're gonna miss the S-Pen funcionality. Otherwise, the G2 has OIS, the SGN3 not. Of course, the 3 GB are sweet!

I love the G2, but I am not too happy with LG about their update schedule. I love updates! Before I commit to Note 3 or Z1 or even the G2, I'm going to wait to see what the Nexus 5 has to bring! Who knows, maybe I'll just stick with the Note 2 ^.^ It's still a damn great device!

I have a Z1 on hand. Anything you'd like to know? Still getting the Note III, but the Z1 would be my second choice.

Battery life?
Screen quality? I know this was a big problem with the Z (original)
Speaker quality? I know the Z had low volume and sounded metallic.

Battery life was markedly better than the Z, but I wouldn't put it up with the Note II - unfortunately I haven't been able to test the battery life in a properly quantifiable manner, but based on my usage of the device I'd think ~4 hours screen on over LTE would be possible. It gets rather hot when under load, I suppose you can always dunk it in a cool glass of water mind you.
Screen quality - vastly superior to the Z. Could never have lived with that. This I can live with. The viewing angles still aren't quite there, yet they're so much better than the Z that I was happy enough. Washes out and is especially bad at certain angles, but dead on it's very nice and gets quite bright, though sunlight visibility isn't fantastic.
Speaker was louder than I recall the Z being. Nothing special, though, I prefer the Note's.
