Phonearena said:
After our latest screen comparison, we concluded that the One X has the best phone display at this time, sporting very high levels of brightness, as well as saturated colors, with natural temperature. So, how does the PenTile-based HD Super AMOLED of the Galaxy S III compare to all that? Well, due to its AMOLED nature, the GS III's display is superior when it comes to color saturation and contrast. This screen can easily look spectacular and eye-catching – that's what it's best at. However, it is significantly colder than the One X. And thanks to its colors being saturated enough in order to guarantee an enjoyable picture, we'd consider the screen of the One X to be superior in terms of image quality.
As you know, both handsets sport HD resolution screens, so they both look incredibly crisp and clear. You might be wondering if the PenTile pixel arrangement of the Galaxy S III doesn't make it look a bit more pixelized. Well, there is a difference, but it is so small, that it can be easily neglected. In 99% of the time using the GS III, the effects of the PenTile matrix will not be noticed.

It says the color saturation and contrast is better with the AMOLED and SLCD2 is sharper

Trying to start another war huh? Nice try. User above me got to it first though.
Conclusion:
Well, folks, it should have become clear by now that the Galaxy S III will once again rule the land of Android, at least until a better contender arrives on the scene. For now, however, the powerful HTC One X isn't capable enough to question its leadership. Although HTC's offering is arguably better when it comes to appearance and overall design, the Galaxy S III is unbeatable as far as user experience goes and that's what's more important. Why would you need a good-looking phone that takes mediocre images and video, and as a number of nasty issues in its software? Meanwhile, the Galaxy S III may not be the most beautiful phone ever, but it does everything right in terms of functionality, meaning it will cause you far less trouble during day-to-day usage.
Once again, HTC's finest will have to play second-best to the Galaxy S phone of the year.

____ LCD2 = sharper images + nice brightness
HD AMOLED = sharp images + nice contrast + nice colors
so choose yourself. And other fellow members, please dont start yet another "which is good?" war.

Hi bala, just for fun, I temp. switched back to my gs2 and now I see what I'm missing in my amoled screens.I currently own HTC one x and I've owned galaxu nexus in past. I hate to agree that I'll have to sell my one x once galaxy s3 will come out. I miss the amoled display.

heard similar feedback from many here
I don't see why this matters so much, I've seen the Note and One X in person and both have amazing screens, I cannot even tell that the Note is a Pentile screen or the One X is LCD. I mean at this point whocares? Are your eyes really good enough that you're going to notice the difference in normal usage or do you just want one to be better than the other for bragging rights?
It isn't like the major difference of 3GS to iPhone 4, both screens look pretty much the same to me and that was on the Note, so surely the GS3 has a better display than the Note.

So today I stopped by phones 4 u on the high street and had a look at the Nexus. I love the design but my God it is big. There's a pic attached to show you the size comparison. The screen is so much better than the XL but its a bit disappointing that it still has a 5MP camera when the XL has an 8MP Camera.
I've fallen for it and will hopefully have mine in my hands tomorrow Will submit a system dump asap. But still gotta figure out how to root it :?

Exactly....look at a picture taken with a very old Nikkon D40 and compare it with any size MP point and shoot, it's not even close in quality. This is like everyone complaining about the lack of an exynos processor, doesn't seem to have any lag in any video or review I have seen. Specs are fine to use, just need to keep them in perspective and use them appropriately.

Thank God someone else knows what I'm saying. The lack of understanding is just amazing to me. People should really do research before talking. As far as I know about the processor, that the processor its using can typically be way overclocked. Plus now that we have full hardware acceleration, things will run very very well.

TI omap 4460 is a 1.5ghz processor that is underclocked for the GN, hence it can be clocked to that for sure and probably up to 1.8 or so. They designed ICS to be optimized for TI Omap processors. Now, I am less impressed with the gpu that comes with it, it is definitely the lowest powered of the top mobile chips. This is a beast of a phone and I hope we see some news on an HSPA version in the US.

LOL. Yeah, it is big. I just visited that site vonapets url'd and compared all my current phones (N1, SGS, Nexus S, Galaxy S II, Thunderbolt, Droid Charge) to the Galaxy Nexus: http://www.phone-size.com/?s=12,13,65,7,85,3 , and it's not much larger, and actually ~25% thinner, than the largest of my phones (the Charge) which fits easily in my slacks and jeans front pockets. Someone wearing painted on jeans might have issues I guess.
The Charge and SGS II are just a little too large for my hands to use comfortably one-handed. My thumb can't reach the bottom left of the phone without putting it in a precarious balanced position. The big 4.3" screens are great, though. I'm afraid the new Nexus might cross that threshold of being to big to be practical for me, but I'll still probably get one. LOL

This attitude. Now that everyone has read a few articles on sensor technology it seems EVERYONE feels the need to school people on cameras.
Yes, it's true, MP doesn't have that much to do with it. But the Galaxy Nexus camera is piss poor. It produces results almost identical to the NS camera, which i feel was essentially the same as the N1 before it. Look how far mobile cameras have come in the HTC titan and the iPhone 4S. For a flagship phone in this price range, this is simply unacceptable. For Samsung, even moreso as the shooter in the GS2 is much better. No wonder people make the 5MP 8MP comparison.
People need to stop being apologetic towards companies, and start calling them out on their mistakes. The processor in the Galaxy Nexus is acceptable, but the GPU is really not up to par with today's superphones. The plastic case construction is an improvement over the fisher-price NS, but still cheap garbage compared to the designs of HTC and Apple, yet they charge the same price.
Enough. Stop trying to school people and school the companies instead. It's the only way we'll get better products.
I was set on upgrading to the galaxy nexus but after using the device I am just not sure anymore. I have an i9023 and in all honestly I found the display of the gnexus underwhelming. It was too dim compared to nexus S LCD and the whites were pretty bad. I am just used to having a high quality LCD I suppose and dont mind it's shortcomings anymore but would be more annoyed at SAMOLED shortcomings rather than appreciate it's qualities. I am by no means saying that LCD is superior tech, just personal preference.
And then the loudspeaker is a disaster on the galaxy nexus, again I am really used to having an above average speaker on the nexus S and this is almost a deal breaker.
So then I used the xperia S and I really loved the screen, the viewing angles were unfortunately worse than nexus S but overall it just felt superior. Amazing colors and sharpness, contrast was acceptable as well. I didnt seem to have any problem with the face buttons of the xperia but I didnt concentrate on them too much which I should have since many people are dreading them.
The speaker was better than even nexus S and the camera is superb with the hardware button making it much better to comfortably take pics.
I also found the xperia S to be more comfortable to handle despite being heavier, the galaxy nexus is a giant.
And then it's 32GB which is really good, I feel for these sort of phones 16GB is not enough when you have 1080p video recording and HD screens.
Unfortunately the xperia S is still stuck on GB which is really sad for such a nice phone.
Ofcourse the biggest strength of the nexus is the software support. What do you honestly think is the better phone and why?
Galaxy nexus.
If you like the xperia the most then go for it. ICS Is just around the corner for him according to rumors. Just keep in mind that there's some xperia that can't be bootloader unlocked from Sony's webpage.

Galaxy Nexus for sure! i will get mine in a few days and its an awesome upgrade from my Nexus S i9023. HD Super amoled screen, deep black colors and great software support. The only thing that i absolutely hate is the Pentile technology, but who cares.. its still 316PPI.

Updates for SE phones are always "just around the corner according to rumors". To my experience, never buy an SE phone in the hope of an update "coming soon". If OP think it's a good phone and are content with the Android version it ships with, get it. If OP won't be happy with a phone until it gets a certain update, wait until that update is readily available before you buy.
Which phone would be best for OP, I wouldn't know.
I still have to wait a little while here in the States before I can see the SIII screen in person.
In the meantime, I want to ask the community a favor. I'd really like to know how the SIII's screen stands up to the iPhone 4/4's screen at full brightness on both devices. (With auto-brightness disabled.) If someone has looked at the SIII and the 4/4S at full brightness side by side, could you tell me how they compare? My fear is that the SIII will not be as bright as the 4/4S at max level. If someone currently possesses an SIII and 4/4S and could snap a side by side shot of both screens at max brightness, that would be greatly appreciated too. Thanks!

I did read the SIII articles on GSM Arena. I'd like some personal XDA takes versus just what GSM Arena has to say. I know you aren't trying to be rude, but to say my answers are a Google search away is pushing it. Clearly I want to hear from this community regarding the matter. If I was asking a question that can be answered on a spec page, then you'd be right, but I want to hear from others regarding the matter.
I've got both S3 which i got last week and 4s which i am using since past 4 months .
In general i dont find much of difference , but when the the background is white you'll surely find 4s to be brighter same goes when you using the fone under direct sunlight !
The reason the iphone is un-noticably slighty brighter is because of the smaller screen & the type of display.

frnds which one is the best ?
galaxy note 2 vs. htc one x
and why? better
...why
the gn2 is way batter than the HOX... no argumentation needed
depends what you want,
ive just moved from a one x to the note 2 and for me it was a wise choice.
the battery on the one x was awful at best, it would never last the whole shift at work unless i had a mobile charger.
the ui on the one x is much more pretty than the note 2 (i still really dont like that touchwiz [email protected]) but touch wiz has more features and can be customised more.
the screens are imho nicer on the one x, (ducks) expecially when put side by side, but on thier own they both look really nice so dont make that a deal breaker.
build quality is very nice on the one x, the note 2 is plastic but fills solid so no worryies there.
if your a very light user that very rarely plays with the phone get the one x (dont even think about gaming or videos), it will last all day and some if you dont use it, but if you want to use the smartphone as intended get the note 2, i run audiobooks all day with mine and still walk in though my front door with over 60% battery life, the one x would be on its second or third charge at that point.
memory is the other deal breaker for me know along with removable batterys, the note 2 has both of these removable the one x is fixed (iphone like). After 6 months of useage nearly of the one x i would never ever EVER pick a phone that had non removable batterys and memory again.
the other deal breaker is you cannot root the one x without (maybe) voiding your warrenty - htc cannot make its mind up to void or not so they put a may* in the terms and conditions, result being if you have a minor fault with your phone thats been rooted they will change the mainboard every time even if its nothing to do with it and charge you for the priviledge.
these are the issues i came accross look in the htc one x area and you will see excatly what i mean.
you just need to decide if the phone is too large - i fine it a bit cumbersome but fine to use as a every day phone / media player.

And now your thread
Why are people constantly opening such useless threads.
What is their point??
Seriously...this will go no where. Everyone has his personal opinions and needs. You have websites designed to judge that.
Just go to www.gsmarena.com or some other website for that..
Evwry mobile has its pros and cons and theres no point in just having a dog fight between them.

I could understand one x+ but one x doesnt even come close. At least the one x+ has a larger battery and a higher clocked cpu. It should be note 2 vs optimus G or nexus 4.

Not really, none phone comes close to Note2 now since it's unique. Huge display still keeping pocketbility, spen and huge amount of stock customisibility. I just moved from One X to this phone and this gave me long-time-WOW! feeling and One X wasn't anything new.

How do you know? The nexus 4 hasn't even been announced yet. But yes right now note 2 is the top dog.

Well, seeing as the Optimus G was released, i'd say in terms of performance, that is top dog (the S4 beating out Exynos... although no S pen or cool features like S apps, etc). But of course, both phones are extremely fast (and some people dislike LG phones due to lackluster support)

Who really cares if that is faster? Maybe webpage loads halfsecond faster? I do only care for now software, if you have top notch hardware but low notch software you will be largely dissapointed.

Got one in my possession. Let pictures do the talking. :good: Won't give my views as they are both totally different devices but both are excellent top notch phones.
I will say this though SLCD2 > AMOLED! For daily viewing nothing tops SLCD2 at the moment however AMOLED has better blacks for videos and gaming, apart from the 5" devices coming soon SLCD3 et al.

Thanks for the pics, I have to say, the HOX has seriously large bezels (I used to bash on Samsung phones for that, but this latest generation fixed that problem).
I must say, it certainly feels great in the hand! Premium feel like a certain fruity phonemaker's phones, not the cheap plastic of a certain Korean brand... The screen is gorgeously crisp, viewing angles are good, and the gaming and video playback is smoooooth
For those in singapore, there are 2 Z demo units at the Wisma Sonystyle.
Sv: Just played with the Z...
It doesnt feel too big? I plan on getting this, instead of my iPhone 4. It's quite a jump from 3.5" to 5". Though I used to have an HD2, so it might just be a question of getting used to a much larger display.

I have a Nexus 4 which is a 4.7, the difference to a 5 will be minimal... most people I know that had iPhones and moved to larger Android devices had no complaints about it. Indeed quite the opposite...
The bets course of action is to go to a Sony store and see how it works for you.

I don't think it'll be a big problem.
I've heard lots of stories about people getting addicted to big screen after having one.

I've got the droid DNA and the .3 or whatever is noticeable. I gave my gf my sgs3 and can't imagine going back. I know the xz will have on screen buttons so that will take some screen away but with gmd gesture control it will be all HD, waterproof glory

Goodness, I can barely imagine using a screen as puny as the iPhone 4 screen. That screensize I easily understand for budget phones.
how did u find the screen is it better than s3 cuz i saw videos between them and the xperia z screen was little bright ??

How can you judge something like a screen, based on just a video(s)????

Exactly. Z's screen is beautiful and awesome. I find Super Amoleds disgusting (Personal opinion) I like true to life colors.

Had a quick play with one myself yesterday in a 3UK store, very smooth, very snappy, now seriously looking at pre order, if only i can find a way to pay off my last couple of months Voda contract to jump ship to O2

Hi can you please upload a systemdump of it?
