The People who Ordered Near end of Janurary - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Many of my friends have ordered on the first day it came back instock and have recieved Rev11 Phones.
They told me that their phones back easily crack for no reason at all...
I am going to have my phone delivered tomorrow.
Why do they crack so easily?
I think that everyone that ordered after the restock will get rev11.

I just got mines tonight. How do I know which rev it is?

Load into your boot loader. when your phone is off, hold the power and volume down button.

The phone does not crack by itself. Most of those people forgot what happened therefore they blame the phone.

Because it is glass. Duh. If you are a person who drops their phone a lot, get a good case. Another revision isn't going to change this. For some reason, people on this forum are too caught up in the revision number. Rarely do new hardware revisions have any noticeable change to function. Generally they are done to improve the speed or cost of production.

(Q) Nexus 7 broken screen. Warranty!

Hi guys I want to make a question. Today I saw the screen of my tablet broken in the side as you cab see in the photos. This didn't happen from dropping or press on it. It doesn't have signs of drop either. The tablet is full functional only this corner don't work. I want to ask if I can claim free repair from Asus because it's not my fault. The tablet is 15 days old and this happen by itself.
Thanks in advance

First of all, don't bump your thread so soon. Only bump if you've had no reply in 24 hours.
Now to answer your question, the only way you'll truly know is by asking them. Different situations are different so no one could really tell you.
Oh sorry about that. I wanted some opinions before I call. Anyway now the Asus support line is closed until Monday I think. I mean is it possible to replace it free or they don't change broken screen's no matter what?
Thanks for the fast reply and sorry again

I think they may do depending on the situation.
You'll just have to explain everything to them and hope for the best really.

generally a broken screen would be considered physical damage, which the warranty wouldnt cover. it would be very hard to prove that the screen broke all by itself, the weight of the proof would be on you. the only thing that might save you is getting the right customer service representative that is sympathetic to your cause. be very nice to them when you call.
Asus says it's not covered by warranty and the price to fix it is 150 €. So I'm going to buy new lcd+digitizer from eShop. Anyone knows were I can find it cheap?

Quite honestly, most just end up replacing the entire tablet because of the disproportionately high price for the LCD/digitizer.

I was reading this thread hoping that they would replace it. If you did not cause the crack under no circumstances should you be stuck stuck the bill. Period. I'm glad things worked out!

What did you tell Asus? I have the same problem and they quoted me 150usd to fix. I can't recall how the screen cracked. It just seem to happen out of nowhere.

I told them that it's not my fault and I didn't drop it or something.like that. Maybe they saw that my tablet was like New no scratches or hits in the corner. I don't know for sure it must be in technicians hands of he will fix it for free

This happened to me. Hit power button and screen cracked from middle left to bottom right. Its on itsway to Asus right now.
It had some screen lift on the left, but never bothered me. I can't help but think that's what caused it.
Cross your fingers for me !

Just a quick update. My tab reached Asus on Friday. Checked status and it says repair in progress. Hopefully this is good news, as I haven't been notified regarding a charge for repair

Its people like you who shouldn't do things like apply wet protectors if you soak the damn phone like its a beach towel.
As I point and laugh...
Let it sit in a sealed bag of white rice all night at least.

It's not that serious. It's not your problem. Please get over it , cool down. Leave thread..

Ok it's been in bag of rice for about 17 hours. The Volume down button still needs alot of force for it to register a key press

[Q] Water damage

So I got pushed in the pool and needless to say phone got wet, turned it off immediately and shoved it in a bowl of rice, after a week when I plug it in to a power source it says battery is full and boot loops now if I hold the V down it goes into the bootloader screen but the power button doesn't let me select anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
UPDATE: I can get to TWRP but won't fully boot up, also I noticed there isn't a battery percentage in TWRP. Battery dead?

Open it up and look inside by power button connection, it might be corroded. Just use a toothbrush and some rubbing alcohol (dont use alot just a small amount and scrub til corrosion is gone) then let it dry and put everything back together.

No it won't. I have 2 nexus 4s. One is a 301K and the other is 303K. A friend also has 303K. None of these have the nubs. Its the 304K models and later which ship with nubs

Without the nubs the phone also works fine.
I think you shouldn't just RMA because of that.

303k and i have those pesky nipples at the bottom
i ordered new nexus 4 about three weeks ago and when it arrived, it didn't have the nipples. i was hoping it would but oh well.
about a month before that, i had to RMA another nexus 4 and the replacement also didn't have nipples.
Well.... I have heard that they kinda made the glass a bit stronger in the new design . Is it true?
Or is the same fragile one that breaks without even touching??

These are small bumps on the back of the phone near the screws that keep the phone a bit raised when kept on any surface. This helps reduce scratches on the glass back, help prevent slipping of the phone as well as improve the sound quality as the speaker opening becomes raised due to these nubs.

Long story

Cracked digitizer

So today I flipped open my case and my digitizer was cracked on my less than 2 week old N7. Won't let me unlock or anything. I have not dropped or otherwise damaged it. Has this happend to anyone else? Manufacturing defect? I also noticed last night that on black screens there were some red splotches. I'm just afraid if I try to get it replaced they will say physical damage have a nice day.

I believe it and no have not heard of this happening. If it was a drop, there would be a clear dent or shatter marking on that line before it splits into two. Just talk to google or where-ever you bought it from and try to keep calm. When glass breaks, it shatters and not produce hairline breaks like that.
get it replaced for free.

yup either that or a crack form pressure like sitting on it or having it in the back pocket and forgetting about it.
that's not a defect. it just doesn't crack on its own.

The tablet had slipped down the back of the sofa between the seat cushion and the back of the sofa. I sat down and it must have squished it. The cushions are super soft and I'm still not 100% sure it happened.

ahaha, nice!!
is Asus charging you to repair that device?
The nexus 7 has a very weak glass.
Mine got hairline crack from twisting.
Most drop test videos show it breaks on the first drop.
I have replaced first unit, waiting until local repair guy can get parts from his usual source to get first one fixed. May try contacting google/Asus about a repair but have not done that yet.
