[Q] Water damage - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I got pushed in the pool and needless to say phone got wet, turned it off immediately and shoved it in a bowl of rice, after a week when I plug it in to a power source it says battery is full and boot loops now if I hold the V down it goes into the bootloader screen but the power button doesn't let me select anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
UPDATE: I can get to TWRP but won't fully boot up, also I noticed there isn't a battery percentage in TWRP. Battery dead?

I wish it was that easy, it was girlfriends dad, and apparently my phone is too expensive for him.

lol again not as easy, thanks for the support tho

Open it up and look inside by power button connection, it might be corroded. Just use a toothbrush and some rubbing alcohol (dont use alot just a small amount and scrub til corrosion is gone) then let it dry and put everything back together.

That's the problem tho, as soon as I unplug it it dies, I'm pretty sure the battery is fried. I ordered another one already it was only $30 so I'll try that.

Dropped phone in toilet, may have shorted it...any hope?

I jumped the gun and i tried to plug it in defn too soon to see if it was working. The LED flashed for a second then went off.
It was a bad plunge because it had no back cover at the time.
The battery could be trashed, but i am worried the phone could be dunzo now too.
It's been in a tupperware of brown rice for 2 full days now and no joy when i plug it in.
im sorry, no hope
you could try and replace motherboard if ifixit has them in stock, but even then,
ya i think your out of luck man
First and always take the battery out if it ever happens again and let both sit in rice for a couple of days before you attempt any kind of charge or turning it back on
Best of luck getting it fixed or getting a new one
i did take the battery out right away, but yeah i think somewhere i blew it out with plugging it in with no battery

Should have waited at least a couple of days just to be safe.
lessen learned...the hard way
You could try a few more days using silica (A LOT).
I had problems before that my device would stop working for weeks, and them came back to life.
I've gotten soap in my phone before. Watery soap too. Thought mine was done for but rice saved me. So hang in there.

My iPhone 3GS went through a full wash cycle. After about 5 months I plugged it in just for sh*ts and giggles and it fired right up. Antenna is hosed though, which I could replace (probably corrosion). Sometimes the hardware comes back to life if left long enough.

I got my wife a Nano couple years back and that night I put it through the wash. It survived but I've never felt so bad before.

Sound crazy but place it in a bowl of uncooked rice completely submerged, the rice should absorb the moisture.
leave it for a day.

Took a week in rice before mine started to work again (dropped in toilet too).
Resist the temptation to turn it on.

Are you implying a clean toilet?
I got lucky. Mine slipped into the hot tub this weekend. Immediately grabbed it, powered off and yanked the battery. Let it sit for a couple days and powered it on...it works! I think my incipio case may have saved it.

Does built-in battery irk you?

I used to have Sensation. Good piece of hardware inherited by my wife had removable one. Working outside I used to swap batteries. Now I'm forced to use external battery what is awkward.
I know many people don't care about it, but why they make life more complicated? Besides that I love my nexus

Not as much as someone who posts a thread, thats been done to death, and should have searched and found the thread regarding batteries to post in.
I get 5-6 hours screen time on a full charge, so no, it doesn't bother me.
Ordered a phone with a non-removable battery and when it came, guess what? It had a non-removable battery. I am utterly shocked and disgusted with Google. I just don't know how I will cope with this.
Coming from RAZR with non removable battery so doesn't bother me.

I don't care. first phone without it.
If it becomes an issue for whatever reason I'll start caring.
I'm kind of irked by it as I've had to pull the battery to unfreeze a phone on many occasions.
My Nexus S hasn't been that frequently, only twice in a year or so, but our Sensation 4G seems to need it 2x a month.
Will be sad if the N4 needs it... I guess I'll just wait for the battery to die and hope the screen doesn't burn.

There's only 2 screws holding the back cover on, so i'm sure 3rd party batteries will be popping up on the interweb eventually.

Coming from phones that had removable battery's that I never actually removed... I'm not bothered at all!
Besides, it's not 'technically' non-removable, if such a time comes that I need to replace it, I can, without ****ing my phone up.

had 2 iPhones previously so non-removable battery is no issue for me. same with no SD card (i saw this as a luxury on my GS2).
Only thing i would like is authentic LTE and a more sensitive touch screen.

Other people explained, that's what I was talking about. On the N4 its pushing down the power button for x seconds, on the HTC One series its the same.
On the iphone its home+power for x seconds
Simulates a battery pull, which is cutting off all power to the device

The People who Ordered Near end of Janurary

Many of my friends have ordered on the first day it came back instock and have recieved Rev11 Phones.
They told me that their phones back easily crack for no reason at all...
I am going to have my phone delivered tomorrow.
Why do they crack so easily?
I think that everyone that ordered after the restock will get rev11.
I just got mines tonight. How do I know which rev it is?

Load into your boot loader. when your phone is off, hold the power and volume down button.
The phone does not crack by itself. Most of those people forgot what happened therefore they blame the phone.

Because it is glass. Duh. If you are a person who drops their phone a lot, get a good case. Another revision isn't going to change this. For some reason, people on this forum are too caught up in the revision number. Rarely do new hardware revisions have any noticeable change to function. Generally they are done to improve the speed or cost of production.

If it doesn't like to charge anymore then its from the battery getting wet maybe. When my sons continy drowned in his backpack from a water bottle I dried it out for awhile in rice, battery too.
Amazon has cheap bats and extended bats and case for continuum.

Yeah, that might be the case in part, but there is also the issue of the phone registering that is is plugged in only after twisting and bending the cord around the phone in a certain manner... It isn't the cord, because I tried it with like four others--it is definitely the phone itself... I think i'll keep this phone though until the Sammy S IV is released (and unlockable by devs ) for Verizon off contract So I still have some time to fiddle around!
I bought an external battery charger for mine off ebay for 5, I saw some for a little more with a battery. Then it wouldn't have to charge via the phone and you would have an extra battery.
Having said all that, are you working on one last great master mod release. Your continuum magnum opus?

That's what I've got. The desk charger came with a "Y" usb cord so I can have one battery charging in the charger and still plug the phone in. It's great having that second battery, if the phone gets low just swap them out and go. And it is a factory Samsung battery, so no issues with it.

I had an extended battery for mine when it was daily driver. Now mine is sitting in a draw so if you need anything testes I don't mine flashing it, I just need to flash to gb first since I went to froyo because the gb leak kept boot looping.
