Dropped phone in toilet, may have shorted it...any hope? - Atrix 4G General

I jumped the gun and i tried to plug it in defn too soon to see if it was working. The LED flashed for a second then went off.
It was a bad plunge because it had no back cover at the time.
The battery could be trashed, but i am worried the phone could be dunzo now too.
It's been in a tupperware of brown rice for 2 full days now and no joy when i plug it in.

im sorry, no hope
you could try and replace motherboard if ifixit has them in stock, but even then,

ya i think your out of luck man
First and always take the battery out if it ever happens again and let both sit in rice for a couple of days before you attempt any kind of charge or turning it back on
Best of luck getting it fixed or getting a new one

i did take the battery out right away, but yeah i think somewhere i blew it out with plugging it in with no battery

Should have waited at least a couple of days just to be safe.

lessen learned...the hard way

You could try a few more days using silica (A LOT).
I had problems before that my device would stop working for weeks, and them came back to life.

I've gotten soap in my phone before. Watery soap too. Thought mine was done for but rice saved me. So hang in there.

My iPhone 3GS went through a full wash cycle. After about 5 months I plugged it in just for sh*ts and giggles and it fired right up. Antenna is hosed though, which I could replace (probably corrosion). Sometimes the hardware comes back to life if left long enough.

Sound crazy but place it in a bowl of uncooked rice completely submerged, the rice should absorb the moisture.
leave it for a day.

Are you implying a clean toilet?

I got lucky. Mine slipped into the hot tub this weekend. Immediately grabbed it, powered off and yanked the battery. Let it sit for a couple days and powered it on...it works! I think my incipio case may have saved it.

I've dropped mine countless times, including off the top of my truck onto asphalt. And off the top of a bunk-bed at camp three times. I've dropped it into the pool, got it out and it was still on . But I did have to replace the entire back housing just to get a new camera lens because mine literally fell off. And I have replaced the speaker four, FOUR times because of it blowing. And I just dropped it from about 1 foot off my chair and it cracked the lens (luckily it's not in the way of the sensor). BUT, the screen has been fine the entire time. Some scratches, but I can not believe the glass has not broken
Hopefully it can make it to July when my upgrade is due. Even though I got it on April 29, 2010. Because I used my brothers upgrade, and he used mine. So now we'll be even.

Water Damage

OK so I was in New Orleans last week and after a night of incredible drinking my first night there I accidently dropped my mt4g into a toilet bowl like an idiot smh. This was last Wednesday. Since then my phone has been of course acting up. Somehow it still works but the battery shows the signs of water damage and when I turn on my phone the flash flashes before turning on. On top of that my camera does not work at all and some apps have been buggy as well. Battery life has probably been cut in half as well. Any ideas or tips? I'm really hoping I can fix this without having to send in the phone or buying a new one.

Have heard some people having success by pulling battery, etc. and boeing the phone in rice for at least 24hrs...worth a shot...
Warm rice. It will absorb excess humidity. If all that damage has already been done it's likely not goong to be undone.
A lot of people have been putting there phone in the toilet.
I'm afraid I may be next, as I do most of the XDA'ing while I'm on the pot.

Rice usually always help absorb all of the water. But if it is too damage from water, then you gonna need a new phone.
If you soak it and it doesn't shut off you gotta pull the battery fast (search "how fast is electricity" xD). the only damage is caused by power being routed where it shouldn't, so for example if you go to check what the damage is and the phone isn't completely dry yet you will just cause more damage.

Wahaha, it happens. My phone was under heavy rain for about 40 min with screen up. I did not work for a day. I dried it as much as I can with a hear dryer and left it for a day and a half. Everything works except the flash which really comes handy at times.
Dryer
I had an incident in which my phone was rained on as well, but I was told using a hair dryer only makes things worse. So I used the rice method and waited a day then my phone worked perfectly again.
seems this phone is a little heavy? lol~

If it doesn't like to charge anymore then its from the battery getting wet maybe. When my sons continy drowned in his backpack from a water bottle I dried it out for awhile in rice, battery too.
Amazon has cheap bats and extended bats and case for continuum.

Yeah, that might be the case in part, but there is also the issue of the phone registering that is is plugged in only after twisting and bending the cord around the phone in a certain manner... It isn't the cord, because I tried it with like four others--it is definitely the phone itself... I think i'll keep this phone though until the Sammy S IV is released (and unlockable by devs ) for Verizon off contract So I still have some time to fiddle around!
I bought an external battery charger for mine off ebay for 5, I saw some for a little more with a battery. Then it wouldn't have to charge via the phone and you would have an extra battery.
Having said all that, are you working on one last great master mod release. Your continuum magnum opus?

That's what I've got. The desk charger came with a "Y" usb cord so I can have one battery charging in the charger and still plug the phone in. It's great having that second battery, if the phone gets low just swap them out and go. And it is a factory Samsung battery, so no issues with it.

New xperia z water damaged...

So i bought my xperia z on friday, (well thursday night as i working in the phone industry) and decided to test the hype....
So i had my phone im and out of bowls of water (about 15 times) bounced off walls, dropped from above my head several times onto wooden /tiles/concrete etc.
And to my surprise the phone with stood all of the attempts to break/water damage it.
But i noticed the phone needed to be charged so i unplugged the rubber seal to charge it and once finished decided to show off again to my friends( forgot to mention that i was at a birthday party drinking heavily) dunked the phone back into the water and it went crazy.
I FORGOT TO PUT THE SEAL BACK IN.....
. So my phone was water damaged..
As i was able to do an insurance.
So all in all, i have never attempted this with any other phone in my life (this was a first) but i was highly impressed with the resilience of this flagship from sony the xperia z....
There wasent even a mark on the anti shatter film that is on front and back of the handset.
So bottom line is that if you are prone to accidents or just not good with phones in general. THIS IS THE PHONE FOR YOU AS TESTED TO THE MAX BY ME...
Just to note that the camera was perfect the whole time leading up to the forgetting to put the seal in...
I also got a few cool photos from under water...
So thats my story.......

I was still able to turn it on and bluetooth my photos that i had taken from the party to the new phone..
It did restart a few times and had like water marks on the underside of the screen near the charge port..
So presently suprise it still worked.
But i wont be doing this in a hurry again.
But good to know that if i spill a drink/use it in the bath and drop it down the toilet it would be fine.

I understand you might work in the industry, so do I, you must be a manger at a store with authority or something similar, as I know for a fact if I tried to exchange mine on the same basis as you did my manager would not allow me too....mainly because as soon as head office received it, they would charge the store the full cost of the handset for returning the phone which was BER. This charge would come out of the store's bonus profit meaning every consultant would be effected....pretty harsh for them when they had no involvement!
But cool story anyway bro! :good:

Yeah... And while it's built to be a bit more shock-resistant than most phones, it is NOT built for wall-throwing and such.
It's quite impressive it survived that... But this is pretty much warranty fraud if you sent it back as faulty.
