Nexus 4 not turning on... - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ohh just my luck... SO basically I rebooted my nexus 4 and boom it wouldnt turn on. I read up a bit and people say to leave it charging for 15-30 min then put it into fastboot... tried it still no luck, Question is my nexus was rooted, custom boot animation, Stock Rom, Franco Kernel now if I was to return it to google how do I get it all back to stock? And any other suggestions you guy's would recommened for me to try before sending it back?

Ok so I got it to boot!!! YAY! using a person's post i found here they said
When you have totally dead piece, press all three together for at least 10 seconds... leave it ... press again and insert USB cable ...
you will get into RED LED mode...
remove the phone now
now VOL - pressed, insert USB cable again ... keep it pressed till you get FASTBOOT mode ... BINGO !
AND IT WORKED!!! Flashing everything back to stock and RMA to google most likely

Why would you RMA a working phone?

Don't worry, your device isn't "defective". The next N4 you get will have the same chance of it happening as your current one does. It's random and there's no way to foresee it.

[Q] screen f**ed, among other things

When I boot the phone, whats supposed to be black is dark red and while its booting it shows white lines in various parts of the screen. Then it boots and it looks like crap and most every time, then shortly after I cant see anything because half the screen is polluted with the colored lines going on the screen. mostly white and blue.
Basically the phone is unusable. some other things are that the screen wont turn on when its plugged in to charge and the capacitive buttons don't work.
ANY help is appreciated. except for dumb ideas like the sprint chat "i reset service for your phone" so yeah.. thank you.
I could take a video?
this sunk to the bottom in a hurry, probably shouldn't bump it 4 minutes since I posted but....
pics/video. make it interesting. keep it tight on the junk. none of that artsy stuff.
Fine ill get a video, its amazing that it actaully worked to browse forums a little. theres a blue tint to thingsa and some pictures/icons are not clear, i need to bring this mofor to the sprint store. but im on dk28 and odin wont work...
edit: charging aa's for camera
edit2: sometimes theres no boot animation

video being uploaded - no lines though maybe its fixing itself.
if you can see the clock digits it looks like it got scaled to like 8bit or something. pictures look like junk too.

Ditto.
Odin it back to stock and warranty it to Samsung. Hardware is obviously defective. At the very least you can make sure it's not some obscure software glitch.
If you can't wait that long without a phone, Sprint will replace it for $35 if you don't have insurance.

Why can't you get back to stock?
when its plugged into something I cant turn the screen on, I got it into download mode macically once but the screen still wasnt on, odin detected it so i tried to flash it but it stopped at factoryfs.

You could still possibly try the $35 Sprint option. Sometimes they don't know any better..... it's up to them to decide to reject it.
so how do i do the $35 option, just go in there and say "uhh can i get a replacement for $35" and show them the issues?
also the thing is, im broke.

Ask them to repair it.
http://shop.sprint.com/en/services/service_repair/in_store_service.shtml
Otherwise try your hardest to Odin it so you can warranty it. Possibly use the Samsung EB13 upgrade tool (which is essentially Odin).
Make sure you have drivers installed properly?

Also, I'm assuming you had rooted it (which shouldn't cause problems but Samsung won't like it).
If that's not the case, then disregard what I said and just go ahead and file the warranty claim.....

Did it happen after you went to EB13 FroYo?
Perhaps mention so, if it's true. They may have an exception for FroYo-bricked phones.
However, don't say anything that's not true foremost. Generally the less information, the better when it comes to these matters..... just tell them the hardware is defective, show them what's wrong (flickering) and ask them to fix it and leave it at that.

Nexus 4 RMA after brick.

Ive bricked my Nexus 4. It was my fault.
Ive been reading around for a solution. I get the Download USB device in task manager, and a USB input device while the red light comes on after holding the power button. No fast boot, screen activity or vibrations.
Ive read that a few people have sent in their Nexus 4's for RMA's while they have bricked custom ROMs installed, none of them seem to post how the RMA went. Do google check for this sort of thing, or just flash a new firmware onto it once they receive it, or have people been charged for the cost of repairing it?

Are you able to boot to bootloader or recovery mode? If you can, you can probably revive it.
How did you do it? Sounds like you flashed a kernel for another device.

Would that have any different result than just leaving it for a week? I left it at home while I went back to uni, so the battery will be dead when I get back. Don't want to make it obvious i've opened it.

Well its not really hard if you try to open it, just take your time, and from what I've seen in the forums, its helped many users. You shouldn't have to worry about making it look obvious that you've opened the phone. You only have to remove 4 screws, and that's including the 2 on the actual battery.

Google for some reason is being very generous with RMA's. On the playstore website it states that RMA's for defects can only be done in the first 15 days after purchase, after that it has to be sent to LG for repairs. But I've seen people RMA a device up to 4 months after getting it. Not sure why they are being so generous unless the Nexus 4's are having a really large failure rate and they are just being nice.

QHSUSB_DLOAD Problem

Hej Guys,
I normally used my Nexus 4 - then it´s shut down(used hells-core + slimbean).
Now nothing will work(no normal booting, no fastboot and no charging etc) - only when I try to connect it with my PC the N4 wants to install drivers(QHSUSB_DLOAD anything).
Any ideas from your side, how to solve the problem?

I know when I had a sensation if your phone got in that mode it ment u bricked it. They can't tell what is on your phone cause that mode is used to flash firmware by manufacturers. Send it in and they will reflash it for you and send it back. Dont tell them u rooted it or unlocked it or flashed a ROM/kernel.

It depends on if they can bring the board back. If they can then they will see that and may charge you for the repair but the chances are slim.

I would say more like 95/5 That they wont see it. It is really hard to bring the board back. If they do it depends on them. Could be cheaper to get new device but wouldnt count on them seeing it.

Factory images for 2 gen Nexus 7

I just bought a 32GB Nexus 7 2 Gen and i can't get to home screen without force closed apps. It seems like the hardware is broken on mine, but before i head over to bestbuy for replacement i thought it could be a bad flash on ASUS part. As soon as i connect to wifi, it says that there is update, it restarts, but i get the yellow triangle thingie with error written below it. I thought i could try to flash the factory image, but i can't find it. I'm pretty sure it should be online, but i could be wrong. So, does somebody have the link with the factory image of the newest Nexus 7?

As of right now, google has not made the factory image available.
Take it back. Sure you may be able to fix it now and its probably just software related, but that's not a good sign and could just set you up for future issues.

Shutting off on it's own?

Got the phone yesterday, the only thing I've done is unlock the bootloader and download all my apps. It worked perfectly fine last night, went to bed all things were great.
I woke up this morning and it was turned off which was strange, held down the power button to boot up and it gets to the home screen and immediately says "shutting down" the battery isn't dead so i'm not sure what the issue is.
I've tried turning it on with the charger plugged in and it does the same thing.

My Nexus 5 had/has that same issue. The ceramic power button started to fail. I would have to push really hard on the power button in order to get it to stop. I hope to god this is not an issue with my 6p that is coming in the mail today.
I would send it back if its a power button issue.

My nexus 5 had that issue as well but it would just constantly reboot. This just turns off mid boot and then I have to hold the power button to turn it back on. But if I boot into the bootloader it'll sit there and be just fine.

Well I just tried flashing the MDB08K factory image and it still wouldn't fully boot up, but yet sitting here without the charger plugged in, it'll sit in the bootloader without any issues.
Downloading the MDA89D factory image and going to flash that, then relock the bootloader and basically set it back to the way it was when I got it. If it still won't boot then i'll contact google and get it resolved.

Yeah it's a bit of a bummer because I have no idea what's wrong with it.
Only thing I can think of at this point is the battery in some weird way is shot but even that doesn't make a lot of sense.
Decided to just call Google and tell them I want an exchange and not a normal "return it, wait for money to be refunded, and then rebuy."

I called back and talked to another guy, he went through troubleshooting steps and said I qualified for a replacement. I made it very clear that I didn't want a refurbished device and expected a brand new device and he said I would be getting a brand new one. I also told him if i got a refurb that i'd just send it back as a return and buy a new phone.
But it's an advanced replacement, said I was one of the first people calling in that needed a replacement device so that's good news I guess.

So I'm having the same problem, I wonder if it's because I'm on the old firmware.

I was on the newest firmware when the issue first came up.

Did you unlock the bootloader ? Root or install a recovery ? Just wondering if that is the cause or a hardware issue that has nothing to do with unlocking the bootloader ?

Only thing I had done was unlock the bootloader, but I even relocked the bootloader and had the same issue.

I called back and talked to another guy, he went through troubleshooting steps and said I qualified for a replacement.
