Galaxy S III: An awful device - Galaxy S III General

Ok, maybe it's not completely useless but how on earth can a top-device-less-than-three-months-ago lag at every single move I make?
The situation gets considerably better with cyanogenmod and I'll never stop thanking devs for that, anyway it's still not the fluidity you'd expect.
Has it finished its time?
Edit: I must say that it's all going on from the jelly bean update, can't blame ics

Is powersave on ? That could explain it and don't generalise because you could just have a faulty unit everyone else or almost everyone else is doing fine.

Stock tw has zero lag for me. Its up to you to flash experimental software.
And did you really need to start a thread to whine? Hmmm...

The only reports of lag are often caused by overclocking and the SoC begins to wear down.
I find the device faster than any I've tried, On CM10.1 its not as smooth as Nexus 4 because Project Butter is a load of **** on a non-Nexus device but it performs tasks better in my opinion.

You're definitely in the minority. Millions of S3s have been sold to millions of happy android users.I've had 0 problems with mine as have many others. Usually the only problems are caused by the owners themselves. Don't take my word for it, just read some posts in any of the S3 forums.

So... you have read plenty of threads here, and you do not know what the Touchwiz is...
Furthermore, you have provided all of the necessary info (ROM,kernel, recovery, apks installed, MODs etc.) to properly assess your problem.
Last but not least, you have carefully read the XDA rules, and you have posted this mess in General section, while it definitely should be in Q&A...

I started a same thread like this i which i disscussed how n y i regret buying this phone n said i shld hv gone for one x+ but unfortunately the thread was closed n most of the people didnt agree with me tht this phone doesnt behave the way it shld except a few. Few thing i noticed through. Most of the people who dnt agree with the phone being **** are either first time users or thy hv always stuck with samsung like some do with apple. Whatever u tell thm thy wont agree.some even compared it with one x while i was talking abt one x+ .
Anways i do agree with u. This phone is aweful. This phone needs some serious dev work n I think the lagging is due cortex cpu. Tegra pr snapdragon i know work very well.
Anyways smart marketing by samsung to lure people in,others shld learn from samsung bt only the marketing part

That time of the month I guess?

Never experienced any lag with any of the roms I've tried so far. If it did, a wipe did the trick. Been usimg stock ics/jb, leaked jb, sammy omega, wanam, cm10, cm10.1, paranoid, aokp, ultima. I think I had a few others in between as well. Been using stock or siyah depending on if I forget to flash siyah after rom but no lag. Oced to 1.6ghz, uved around 100-150mvs per clock.
Absolute charm except for taking a while when waking device.

Thank god someone got what I mean. It's been advertised as top, it simply doesn't have the numbers to be qualified as top. I really can't imagine myself using an ios device, but have you seen you does iphone reacts to user stimuli? It's on another planet x.x
If there's an android that has iphone's responsiveness to human stimuli, that's the perfect smartphone :&
Anyway, could it possibly be the single gb of memory?
How much you guys can feel it doubled in nexus 4/ note ii/ i9305?

No idea what's going on with your device, zero lags here and this is my third android device (in 6 years) and by far the best. As for no longer being top of the tree after three months (I thought it was released may 2012? no?) that's technology my friend. Try reading around and installing either an aosp rom, or a modded samsung base, BTW cm is not great on the sgs 3 due mainly to Samsungs policy of not releasing the sources or documentation the devs require.

sorry just vanilla android, which is what you have before all the manufacturers put the unneeded skin and fiddle with the frame works to make their phones different from one another(these same modification also hinder the speed up that their phones can be updated from each android release)
Its funny actually all these great developers here can get the source code the day its out make a almost fully functioning rom/port while these big name companies stumble around for god knows how long to make an update when they have full access to the drivers and such
While I will admit from froyo to gingerbread was nothing monumental in way of adding lots functionality but security updates those were needed(still waiting to use my nfc to buy sodas from teh coke machines in the mall though)
Enjoy your nexus

It's not even close ICZen is so much better.
With an open mind I flashed chimera 2.2, I had tried v1, but it was too green. Well it bootlooped out of the gate on the aroma installer which suprised me. Just too many things that arent fine tuned ...yet. Gamma hack wouldnt stick period, though it was pretty smooth and quick. Sorry, not even close..yet, but you never know how it will evolve.ICZEN! Well for me...I lost all respect for team passion when neo started releasing his work with pirated apps...but not only did he release his roms with paid for apps...but he went even further and started renaming the apps and modifying their start up screens to make it seem like he was the creator of the app. And it wasn't just one or two...he would release things like ICS passion with like 10 pirated apps all renamed and modified to include his name and ****. I mean, that is completely disrespectful of the hard work that the app maker put into their work...and he never even asked them for permission either! I don't understand how you yourself can release something and at the same time have such a low respect for others who are putting in their time and energy trying to make the device better. I mean, this is one of the big reasons that the passion team was first kicked from XDA...and then when they were allowed back and didn't learn their lesson...what do they do....they decide to move to their own website and FB page where they are allowed to take whoever's work without permission. You know, I remember flashing chimera 1 and I thought to myself when I was going through the aroma installer....they have so many kernel options and ****, and I bet they never once asked any of those developers if they could use their kernels in their rom...and sure sure, that might not be so bad....but they no where say "thank you" to the people whose work they included in the rom. Now, I may be wrong about that...but based on their past performance, I really wouldn't doubt it. That team doesn't respect the community whatsoever, and that's why they moved.

Normally when I see a thread given 1 star I always give it a 5 star out of habit, but I gave this one a 1 star. I am tired of these threads of people comparing the two against each other. I hate how people are comparing a 200 dollar tablet to a 500 dollar tablet and they expect them to be on par with each other.
It may seem like nonsense but it is a legit question. Best answer is use a different browser. There are tons. Find one with the features you want and get used to it. There are lots of threads about this. Also look into Ad Block app from the market. It really helps in cut down the crap your having to load up and render.

Just to lend my advice, dolphin browser is pretty awesome. I'd give it and Firefoxa try and see if you get any better results. Chrome was just a bit... off to me.
And also, this is not an ipad, and it never will be. While the two play similar roles in our daily lives, they will never be the same. ios is a different os completely and its made out of spare parts of apples LOL. Android tablets aren't going to do everything the same as the iPad. I've personally used the newest iPad and must say I like this nexus 7 much better. Was reading along in Droid Life and came across this... http://www.droid-life.com/2013/01/0...n-nexus-7-and-others-with-seeder-application/
Original XDA thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1987032
In a nutshell it is supposed to resolve the dreaded lag in Android devices.
I flashed the flashable version and wow. I am literally seeing a HUGE improvement in speeds. Apps are just flying when opened. I am not even OC and I am running the new Team DIRT Dirty Unicorns. Just throwing this out there for those who want to give this a whirl. I highly recommend it so far. Will check back in a few (read "days") and give further impressions.
Oh emm gee. Yeah it works great on ICS. My girl was even like wow

Just wondering, but is this best recommended for an ICS / JB rom? I could totally see this getting more popularity if that's the case.

Its actually for all Android. So I am thinking how fast this would run on say... Decks ReLoaded or Kendall's JellyBread. I am currently massively under clocking on Dirty Unicorn. Min 384 and Max 652 on MazWoz kernel. No lag what so ever!
The creator also allows devs to bake this mod in. Hopefully it gets picked up on our end. Might extend some life in our device.

We also saw great results when using this on our JB rom
It works on my evo and sg3 too! Haha! 4.2 goodness on both devices!

If you flashed v6 just go to terminal emulator, su, seeder. You should get the seeder options showing its on. The apk is not needed if you flashed the zip.

Dude, come on 88,after its installed you go to the app drawer and its right there, open it and set it to enable and reboot and man this app is the shiznit,i created my own jb rom, which had noticable lag and brother, smooth as butter now,the dev hit this one out of the park.
So this was posted in JellyBread https://plus.google.com/app/basic/stream/z12uw3ubrnjtwp0oo04chbkpywq3fxgrtrw0k
I asked to move all Seeder talk from that thread to this thread to avoid cluttering a ROM development thread with debates on this app. I personally am using it, released a ROM with it that is in Android development section. Not a single issue with battery.
In my experience. All that battery drain talk is complete crap. Some of them even admitted to not even wanting to read more in to it "Definitely sounds like a battery killer... I've seen articles around about it but haven't even bothered to attempt to put it on my phone or even read further into it."
LMFAO. If you will make your decisions for this app off this then ok :silly:.
I had the same battery life I had. The performance is greatly increased. I installed Better Battery stats and my phone goes in to deep sleep. It hardly stays at max cpu. All those negative claims are mostly false and probably just pompous devs that couldn't get credit for it.

OK I have it on my evo4g with jellybread. Using it after reading the posts on here. I downloaded it from the Market and the only thing I have did is turn on the two settings you see when you open the app.

Not really tricked, but like they said, they jumped the gun on saying this will fix all lag problems, its actually causing other issues when the tweak is doing its job,so they are working on a fix for this issue.
Issues:
There was no performance gain. However, the CPU did stay awake longer and my battery consumption went up from 0.6%- 1% to 2.2% per hour.Battery stats points to the CPU favoring 500MHz and not scaling down to 200MHz.Deep sleep was also an issue.

Mine was stock for all of ten minutes.
AOKP is my stock.
I'm still stock and non-rooted. Nothing has annoyed me enough to change that...yet.

I'm still waiting for the day android comes with automatic root via the dev options, they can be hidden like the dev options is. They also need a better stock recovery especially for the nexus line.
Stock and not rooted but I did just get this phone a few weeks ago. Nothing really needs to be changed for me at this time

Stock and root. Haven't the incentive to try other roms with the Nexus 4 as the battery has been great since the last ota.

If u guys are going custom on a nexus device it means u dont respect android.
Custom roms are for non nexus users. What better a custom rom can provide than ur vanilla rom.
Flashing a custom on nexus gives an impression as if the user think he will be cool if he has a custom, with no user need.
Sorry just my opinion.

Actually its the other way around , I assure you for a mainstream user there is no point of buying nexus device because its stock. So nexus device is for the people who want to try different things because of the aosp and how easy to costumize ur experience. If u don't want to experiment u have the right of course but also u r like saying I don't care about geogle trying to help the community with aosp .

I flashed so many ROMs into my nexus 4 but decided to go back to stock. My battery life was awful with the other roms, it's great with stock so im staying here until i see an improvement.
The N4 is allready great out of the box but as i love Cyanogenmod i`am running the latest nightly`s. Batterylife is even better imo and i love its extra build in features. CM 10.1 all the way
stock rooted here. been like this since the first jellybean rom
Stock rooted and using moles bright kernel which is stock kernel with color modifications only.
It give me best colours and great battery life

It is indeed your opinion. It's also a little bit of a daft opinion to broadcast on a website dedicated primarily to the customisation of mobile devices.

oh what complete bull. and this on xda. i would not flash anything on a legacy device, because these plattforms are not meant to receive roms. nexus roms are based on pure aosp. google supplies fresh sources and vendor blobs, everything is cared for. you build stock android with a single shell command.
its funny though you post that from a note. samsung at its best, creating fragmentation and confusion. : P
I have been going through a lot of custom kernel after getting my nexus 4, since december, but now I'm back to non-rooted stock.
I kinda prefer stock vanilla because of stability, over nightlies, custom kernels, etc. These custom roms are always buggy in some way and stock seems a bit more polished for the moment.
I will try CM10.1 once it goes stable, because I really like the customization of switches on it.
