question about light bleeding - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought my nexus 7 in October so I've had it for a little over 3 months and iw absolutely love it, I've been having a bit of a problem with the screen and after a Google search I figured it was called light bleeding (has orange-yellowish tint going along all 4 sides)
So it's not too big of a deal as its only on the edges and not in the middle where I focus my attention plus it's really only noticeable if I'm reading or Web browsing with a white background. If I watch a movie or play a game I don't notice at all.
My question is, is it possible for the light bleeding to get worse and cover my whole screen? I can deal with it being on the edges and want to avoid sending it in for repair cause I'd hate to be without my nexus for a month so if it'll stay the way it is now ill just keep it and deal with it but if it's only gonna get worse I'd rather send it in sooner than later.
Any answers would be appreciated, thanks!

Screen bleed. Will it get worse?

Will the screen bleed get worse? Is this a universal problem with all tabs? My case also has a slight pop/crack when I hold it on the top/left side. Thinking of trading it in for the Samsung, unless their build quality is the same.
I exchanged my first tf because there was 4 light bleed spots on it, my new one has only 1 very minor lightbleed spot that is not noticable unless you search for it but the right side bezel is a bit off, so theres a gap of about 1/2 milimeter which in the end translates as a similar gap at the same spot on the back where the plastic is meeting the bezel. So if you look at my docked and closed transformer you'd see the two bezels are not perfectly aligned, as one is slightly curved outwards... I don't know if I am going to return this one yet.
It depends if I manage to fix the video playback, even 360p videos on youtube are sluttering unless they are put in full screen... And I am on the lastest firmware with the lastest flash version + factory reset.
Another strange issue is that randomly, when I press the touchscreen the tablet emits a little and faint "beep" very very faint and with an irregular tone, and this is even with volume all set to 0, it makes me think the static electricity is messing up with one of the speakers or something, but meh it's not bothering at all.
If I can't manage to fix the playback issue & the gtab10.1 or 8.9 is an exynos dual core (I have it in the galaxy S2 and this soc is a BEAST, it runs circles around the tegra2 in flash video playback or responsiveness) by then i'll just get a galaxy tab and give the TF to my girlfriend since I don't need a keyboard at all for the stuff I wanna do on a tablet.
The extra battery from the dock is so sweet tho, i used it all day long and it is still at 100% charge lol.
I just think the first batches of transformers are terribly and randomly flawed, just RMA it to asus or keep exchanging until you get a decent one.
If the gtab ends up with tegra2 I don't see any point of getting it, the transformer even with its flaws is still light years ahead of the gtab in terms of connectivity & docking.

well when i bought it, it had very minor light bleed but now it has amped up a bit. i looks like with daily use, it'll get a bit worse and peak out and stay there for the rest of its time.
too early for me to confirm that theory though but i like that if it gets unbearable within the year, asus will take it and fix it for you
I've actually grown attached to my TF, and can probably live with its issues. Just don't want it to get worse, and I'm afraid to trade it in, getting a refurb instead of a new one...
I also have some light bleed issues with mines I got it 2 weeks ago. its not bad for me its just in the left hand corner and on some spots along the side and bottom nothing more than what I see on a smart phone.
If it does get worse, you have 1 year of warranty through Asus.
i like my transformer so far, but the replacement from amazon is coming. Mine apparently had really bad light bleed. There were 3 spot from the bottom left that had a big sploch and 2 medium size one 3 small one on the bottom and another one on the right.

[Q] Does the perfect (manufactured) TF101 Exist?

Hi guys,
I'm on my second transformer in a week and going back and forth between keeping it or going for another replacement. Let me address my question though.
Can those of you with this device confirm whether or not you have a perfectly constructed Transformer? What I mean by that, for the most part, is that it's devoid of the various hardware defects that people are complaining about. These include poor touch response on the screen (having to double touch, or it doesn't work at all), speaker balance issues, light bleed, and screen-to-bezel separation.
My first TF from Amazon had the speaker issue where the right was much louder than the left. However, that was the ONLY problem with it. There was no light bleed and the screen, from what I can remember, did not have any noticeable separation.
My replacement came from Newegg, and the good news is that the speakers both work great. The bad news is I have a SLIGHT light bleed down in the UI menu at the bottom of the screen when in landscape mode, and I would say a moderate issue of the screen being separated from the bezel. A lot of people seemed to not notice this second issue until they starting looking closer at their own TFs. Basically, run your finger around that little black line that links your screen to the case. Is it seamless with the glass or does it stick out?
I'm beginning to question my OCD at this point, but if people really can confirm for me they have 0 light bleed and seamless screens I think I will keep returning until I can get what I would consider a perfect replacement.
All feedback appreciated! Thanks!

Don't exchange right away. Wait till the last minute (of your return period) so you'll get the latest batch.
You know it is a file config fix for the speakers? You may be kicking yourself if that was your only problem and you now have one with lightbleed!
Paradaz, I found that out after sending it back to Amazon. :-(
I am kicking myself and doing it pretty hard.
I also found out I get the pleasure of paying shipping costs because I bought my second one through Newegg (Amazon was out so could only refund at the time).
I have decided the screen separation is making me too nervous, so here's to hoping the 3rd time is a charm.
Mine should arrive tomorrow or Tuesday I bought it through Wal-Mart .com. I'll report back if I see any issues mentioned. These things are selling like hot cakes though, it pretty amazing.
Mine should show up from Amazon tomorrow and I am all paranoid by everyone having issues so either I will be back and sobbing about it or I might not be heard from for a week.
I got my third from New Egg a week or so ago and so far it is virtually flawless. I say virtually because there is the tiniest bit of light bleed along the bottom but it is so slight that its unnoticeable unless pointed out (even on a black screen).
I'm on number 3 also. build is tighter than the other 2, but the first was tight in the beginning too. still has bleed and speaker balance issues. I've done the tweaks and used volume+. my only fear is blowing a speaker now.
hoping I have a keeper this time.
Mine seems perfect to me. I must be one of the rare lucky ones.

No issues here, have owned my TF for a week now.
-No random SODs
-No light bleed
-No speaker issues
-No touch response problems
-No creaky bezel issues
Guess I lucked out?
Each time I think I've finally convinced myself that I am going to keep my current Transformer, I stumble upon one of these threads. As much as I love the device, my OCD has me looking for defects whenever I have it in my hands. I received mine from Newegg Friday and this is what I've noticed so far:
- Minor light bleed along the bottom when in landscape mode. Nothing too serious but definitely noticeable when in a dark room and the bottom of the screen is black. I tend to think this is going to be the case with all these screens.
- Right speaker louder than the left. Seems almost universal. I ran a Left/Right speaker test and, although it isn't an overwhelming difference, the right is clearly louder. Perhaps this is simply a matter of the openings/slots on the right side?
- One speck of dust under the screen in the upper left corner an inch below the Asus logo.
- What appears to be a dead/stuck Pixel in the right corner. Didn't notice this initially as it only appears clearly against certain backgrounds. When I ran a pixel test, there was a black dot about the size of a pin point against bright blue backgrounds in that spot. Very hard to notice against other colors.
- Screen separation: I notice no defect on that front. Maybe the slightest separation on the right side where the mini HDMI port is... the main problem is me looking like a moron every time my girlfriend walks in the room and I'm intently starting at a turned off tablet.
I'm debating returning it to Newegg but then I worry that it is mostly a matter of me obsessively looking to find fault and that I'll end up with a worse one if I exchange it. I haven't returned anything to Newegg in years - you said they required the buyer to pay shipping?

lol when i read that i laughed hard
had a scare with mine, couldnt recharge it. But I was rooted, maybe it had something to do with it. The charger itself might have had a problem, but its ok now. Everything else is perfect. I've had mine for almost 3 weeks and it still works flawlessly. I show everyone my device and they are amazed

I'm on number 4. Just got another 1 replacement from amazon yesterday, the build quality got better from the last 2 i got but this new 1 has worse light bleeding out of the 4 i got. I'm still thinking if i should keep the 3rd one i got and return the new one i just got from amazon or just return everything and get the samsung. Hard decision because i really like the transformer but the light bleeding is kind of annoying

I've received two units that I've opened (the others were sold unopened).
Both units have no issues beyond *extremely* minimal light bleed that is normal on any tablet screen, and not obtrusive in the least. One has a very slight gap at one short point in the bezel, barely twice the width of a human hair, if that.
You'd have to be beyond OCD to be unhappy with build quality on either of my tabs. And I didn't return any to get them.
But frankly I think plenty of people *are* beyond OCD, and expect a level of perfection that's simply not realistic.
It seems to be quite an issue, with the defected hardware. my came with a problematic power button which got worse with every use. now I can't lock/unlock the screen, can't turn it off and If I do manage to turn it off the only way to boot it would be to connect it to power. Today hopefully I will get it replaced.
Mine is perfect. I had a light cracking on the right side the first weeks, but it is gone now. I am very happy with my transformer. Browser scrolling could be better .
Nothing to complain.

Screen Defect - "Bubble" under glass [Pic]

I've seen the discussions on screen scratches but didn't find any posts about this issue so I wanted to share.
Noticed a "bubble" or "ripple" under my glass today. There is no screen protector on my device. It's not very noticeable when the screen is on but in bright light it does stand out, especially with the screen off.
[Pic Attached] Took me awhile to get it to show up in a picture.
This is a Verizon S6 edge 64GB Black purchased at Best Buy in-store. I visited there today to exchange it but they did not have a replacement in stock but said they had no issues swapping it out and are going to call me.
Anyone else seen this?
Hello,
For the galaxy s6 black, for me i have the same issue but it's not affect the screen . On my S6 edge gold the screen is perfect ! no bubble ! For samsung it's totally normal !
I have a similar minor bubble too that is noticable only if I really hunt for it. Don't sweat it, every phone will have some minor insignificant defect. As long as it doesn't hamper your user experience or the device durability in any way, it's best yo ignore these and enjoy the phone instead. Speaking out of experience of having over half a dozen Samsung phones
I've returned my phone because of a bubble. There was One little bubble on the black area just above the menu button. It was a minor issue, but I couldn't ignore it, I knew it was there. You say don't sweat it, but I want my €850 phone to be perfect. Even if that means sending my phone back for One lousy bubble that isn't even visible if you don't pay attention to it.
One annoying bubble
Well, I am sad to say this but I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem. I noticed it right as I was taking my phone out of the dust wrap. I didn't even bother to turn the phone on, it is going back to sprint.
Just frustrated now because I know I'm planning to exchange but I can't fight the urge to customize... I don't know what Smart Switch will actually move over.
Wondering how long it will take for them to get replacement stock.

I noticed a ridge right down the middle of the screen when I was surfing websites with the Edge phone on its landscape side.
The ridge looked exactly like the the rectangle shape if you look at the IFixIt teardown for the S6 Edge.
Found more multiple bubbles under sunlight.
Took the phone into Samsung store and the person told me that a few people have complained about this issue, and that its not uncommon.
I checked their display models and they also had the same issue, although the bubbles and ridges were much worse on the phone I owned.
I ended up returning the phone and now may get a regular S6 unless they fix this issue.

Compared to yours, mine is way milder. In fact it takes me about 5 mins to find at, at the right angle, even though I know exactly where to look for it. It's nearly impossible to capture on camera.
So I take back my words and agree that you should get yours replaced if it's so noticeable!
I had the same issue on my first S6 edge. It never really effected the device but I could see it when the device the screen was off, and I hated it. I called Tmobile and they sent me a new device that is flawless, I'm very happy with it my phone now. I think its probably something to do with the flexible displays.
My first edge had a large ridge/bubble up the center of the screen. My new one has a very small bubble at the top. I'm not worried about it.

I had a scratched screen and got it changed.
My new screen has no scratches. If I look at it at an angle in full-on direct sunlight, I can see bumps under the glass in the screen itself. I was blinded for 10 minutes after it though, because it was under extremely bright direct sunlight. Nothing you would notice under regular use.

They must of had some crack head worker's on the production line for this phone that is going to end up costing them a bunch of money!
I have it too in India. Sad. Though didnt notice after noticing it for the first time. Hardly visible in daily usage.
This is supposedly a known issue. My wife has a black 64GB edge and it had the bubble issue. We returned it to.ATT and they issued us one with a line of ripples in it. We were told to contact our local Samsung rep as they would not open another box. My white 64GB Edge is flawless.
My 32GB black edge from AT&T had a bubble. Only noticed it because I was looking for those scracthes, and I had plenty of them! I would have kept it since the bubble did not bother me as much as the fine scratches.
My 64GB Gold is pretty flawless from what I can tell. Though I am not looking too hard because I am realizing all these devices might have a tiny imperfection when under close examinatoin
No bubbles for me.
Greatins
Hello guys, I have GALAXY S6 Edge (SM-G925F) 32 GB from Sweden, And i also have a bubble under the glass, I talked with my operator and they said that they would need to take it into repair... what about you guys? did u get it replaced or what? cause i barely used this device 2 weeks feels a bit lame to send it into repair, the device itself ain't cheap to buy here it does cost around 960 euro...
The first unit I got had horrible screen tints. It was pretty much a downward gradient of pink, green, normal, green and pink. It was so bad that trying to read stuff downwards was literally hurting my head. you start from the top and notice the background of the text you're reading keep changing. The first unit also had a volume up button which was defective (I couldn't hear it clicking and when I don't click it at the very middle of the button it doesn't register the click).
Now to my second unit which I got this afternoon. Checked the buttons, perfect. No scratches. Was pretty happy until I got home and updated Android. The moment I saw the screen I was like... "WTF is that". There was literally small dots all over the screen. Diagonal dots which looks the same way a drop of water would look like on your screen (rainbow-ish).
Here's the pattern of the dots. Imagine it smaller and having rainbow-ish colors. (I suck at photoshop and I couldn't capture the problem on a camera.)
Went to a well lit room and checked it out. Yup, wasn't imagining it. Turned of the screen and I could still see the dots. The bad thing was that at closer inspection... TADAAA! A bubble at the top left of the screen.
Here I thought it would be impossible for me to be as unlucky as the people who got 4 replacements units with defects. Bad thing is that my carrier only allows 1 replacement. I'll have to go straight to Samsung and have them replace the unit.
After all the good reviews from almost everyone, this is extremely disappointing. First Samsung phone and their quality control just had to ruin things. This will probably be the last.
How have people fared with returning their Verizon versions? Mine has the lines of bubbles on it and it's a 64GB/Sapphire Black one from Verizon. My wife's has the same thing and hers is 64GB/White one from Best Buy. They only be seen in direct sunlight outside, I figured it was common since we both have them.
I think i have one. Has any one had a replacement from Samsung?

Inspect your edge

A lot if people have been received their S6 Edge phones with defects, either through transit or manufacturing, I am now on my third one in 3 days due to there being a small chip out of the metal trim under the screen and then the earpiece speaker being all fuzzy on the replacement, not to mention one of the others i was offered had a chip out of the metal surround. Luckily my third one now seems perfect (fingers crossed).
Just make sure your phone is perfect before you walk away at the end of the day your paying a lot of money for it and its gonna save you going back and fourth like iv had to lol
I don't know how it works in other country's but here in the UK carriers HAVE to give you 14 days "cooling off period" which enables you to get on the spot exchanges if your unhappy with your phone, or they have to let you cancle your contract.
Hope this is helpful, thanks.

I can attest to this as I'm about to take the second one back this week. The problem is that it is difficult to do at these stores due to lighting. The first one I return as there was a small (miniscule) circle on the glass, otherwise the phone was perfect (In hindsight I wish I kept that unit). The second unit has a screen that I'm not sure how it made on the phone as it should have been rejected. Top and bottom has green tint, left side had purple tint and top right has the dusty/dirty section that you can clearly see on web browser when reading. Now, the VZW store was extremely nice and agreed to replace my first one with no issues. I'm going back to take the second one back this week.
The issue is with lighting at store and everything is cranked up. Tough to see screen issues on that type of brightness. I can't stand screens that aren't uniform and calibrated, and after reading about Amoled this weekend, I'm not expecting much. I'm hoping third time is the charm, but in all honesty I may just give up on this phone, as I don't really have the time to go back and forth to store every week to play the exchange lottery.
definitely no hardware problems here..
I smell what you're cooking! Typical company issues
Anyways, got mine S6 EDGE and I'm in love with it. I did not check everything, but it seems to be fine. But I have a question for you :
It is normal that the speakers are a little bit (I don't know how to describe this)...rustled, when I have the uppermost volume?
After reading this I thoroughly inspected mine. I guess I got lucky. Verizon 64GB White one and I don't see any issues at all. Sorry to hear you guys are running into issues though :/
T-Mobile 64GB Sapphire BLUE here. As far as I can tell, no defects. It almost sounds like initial batches had/has all the issues, but that's a small sample size. Personally haven't run into any thing related to: straight-from-box screen scratches, screen rotation issues, or color variances.
Only thing I wish it had was a little less sensitivity right above the home button... I keep hitting the area on top of the home button first, and then the button itself.
As for the speaker quality Its hard to tell really because it could be your cell connection affecting the sound quality as well, the problem I had was that no matter who I called it sounded like there with something going "zzzzzttz" "zzttz" as they spoke! As far as I'm aware the sound quality is actually pretty good cranked up full!
Come to think of it the first one I was given also had more of a yellow tint to the whites than the one I have now... Maybe a placebo effect but still something worth mentioning!
Btw : I just checked my display, I have a few, little scratches on my display. Is that normal? (You can only see them with bright light)

Depends on what you mean by normal. Around 30% of people here have reported the scratches.
You all should check for screen non-uniformity. A portion of your screen might be pinker than normal.
Here are pictures I took of my screen. I have a sliver of pink tint at the top and some pink tint at the bottom part. Grays also appear brighter at the bottom part of the screen.
Should I have it changed or this is above average for a s-amoled screen?

Screen Issue: Right side of screen is darker(?)

I think that the right side of my OP5 is darker than the left one. It's easier to observe it with low light.
You can check the video on the following link:

Should i make a ticket?
** I think that you should open the link on your browser or on g+ to play the video..
My screen is pink on the top and green at the bottom. They refused me a replacement or a repair, so I'm going to send it back, get my money and stick with my OP3. I don't think the 5 is really much of an upgrade on the 3 anyways.
Mine is darker on the left side and lighter on the right :/

My screen is pink on the top and green at the bottom. They refused me a replacement or a repair, so I'm going to send it back, get my money and stick with my OP3. I don't think the 5 is really much of an upgrade on the 3 anyways.

I've never experienced my OnePlus 3 overheating or getting anywhere near it being hot enough for me to warrant worrying about. I don't play games on my phone, maybe that's why?
For day-to-day use, Chrome, e-mail, WhatsApp, Discord, all the usual stuff, my OnePlus 3 is just as fast as the 5. The only notable thing about the OnePlus 5 over the 3 is that the vibrator is far better and call quality is marginally clearer. Plus, Xposed not being on Nougat really put me off of the OnePlus 5, I'll stick with my Lollipop OnePlus 3 I think.
I have similar issue on the bottom side of the display. It's most noticeable on gray colors. But from what I've read here it's quite common with AMOLED displays. So you could get a display with more uneven lightning..
