(entire top of screen, blue tint [left in portrait] and significant bleeding in lower left-hand corner, yellow tint [bottom right-hand in portrait])
My tablet did not have any bleeding at all when I first took it out of the box. I first noticed the upper left-hand corner being a bit brighter. Just last night, I noticed the yellow-tinted bleed in the lower right-hand corner, and then the blue-tinted bleed in the lower left-hand corner.
Today, I opened up my tablet to fix an unrelated issue (screen lift, by tightening screws), and that seems to have made it worse. However, I noticed bleeding was decreased when the back cover was off. Is it possible that it is caused by the back cover? Would loosening screws fix it?
I cannot get it RMA'ed since I removed the S/N sticker on the back, unfortunately.

See, but it is related..
I never understood why anyone would spend $250, $150, $100, $50 etc on an item, under warranty and try to fix it themselves when it has a defect.. Now you have a defective unit with another defect that is most likely self inflicted and will be an even bigger pain in the ass to get replaced under warranty.

According to Asus, my warranty was void the moment I took it out of the box as I discarded the S/N sticker on the back of the tablet. Also, the bleeding had appeared before I even opened it up. The tablet, that is.

I'm pretty sure you had a moron on the phone
The serial # is on the box it came in (CSSN)
The serial # is readable in settings/about tablet/status menu
The serial # is on another sticker stuck to the board itself (UUID)
There is no way Asus is denying you a warranty because you threw away that trash sticker EVERYONE throws away..

They weren't exactly denying me a warranty, however the email stated that if the serial number cannot be found on the device itself, the warranty is void. I didn't attempt to send it in, however they did give me an RMA number and perhaps I could try sending it in to them anyway, box and all.
I'm not exactly sure how this whole RMA thing works, since I've never done it.
Looking at your screen. The light bleed itself looks normal. Any tablet that you turn the brightness all the way up and show a black screen is going to have it.
Use it normally.. Is there any defect in how the display looks? No? Don't worry about it.. You might be having a mild case of Tech OCD..

That is not normal. Nome of my electronic devices do that.

It's IPS Glow and cameras tend to make it look worse than what the user sees. It's all in the corner and I bet if he changes his viewing angle the glow goes away. Actual light bleed is static and will still be there no matter the angle you are looking at it.
Here is mine
Oh noes!!! Bleeding! RMA RMA RMA!!! And my camera is totally over exposing it and making it look worse! RMA RMA!!
Change angle.. `Bleeding' magically goes away.. The super bright corner is now nearly straight black.
Again.. OP.. Use your device normally. Does your display, colors, anything look out of the ordinary? Or only when you turn your brightness all the way up and stare at a black screen?

Yes. Even on low brightness, the right side of the navbar is noticeably brighter than the rest. And even on low brightness, grays are extremely brighter on the left than on the right.
And it bothers me so very much.

Ok.. Definitely get it RMA'ed.. Sorry to be blunt and direct but a lot of people get Tech OCD and obsess over stuff that is perfectly normal or isn't able to be re-created unless all the planets are aligned, they're standing on one foot and Steve Jobs is defrosted and wheeled out for the next Tech Show. I've done it countless times myself and hate myself every time I do it..
RMA is easy.. Call them. Explain the situation. Act stupid. ie: Don't mention the sticker, don't mention tightening screws, act like XDA doesn't exist. Act like a typical user who is having a typical problem.

Personally, the whole "screen bleed" and "oh, I messed with the screws" part in the same post smells fishy. As a cyclist, I think of this: http://cyclistthings.com/2012/10/22/j-r-a-just-riding-along/

I think Samsung blew it on the design of the galaxy tab 10.1
There is a serious screen and stability problem with the tablet.
Whenever I pull it out of my bag I have the Newton rings.
I know that a lot of people believe it is weather related or humidity related.
My experience is that this is because the glass is too close to the digitizer.
What makes it worse it the fact that the case flexes so much due to the weak plastic on the back. Even the weight of the battery can cause these rings to appear by holding it upside down.
I don't believe that a screen replacement can fix this unless they reinforce or separate the distance between the two surfaces.
Has anyone with a repaired unit tested it by holding it upside down to see if they still get the rings? Mine go away but some don't. It is always reproducible though.
My Tab has none of the issues you're describing. Why not replace it under warranty.
also no newton rings here!
and trust me, i know such discussions (display related flaws) far enough from my SGS2:
there is/was a problem with yellow tinting especially on the left side of the display, most people have it to some extent, some not. the ones with the flaw almost never believed the other guys that their displays were close to perfect...
No replacement under warranty.
You will receive refurb replacement. Cannot request new unit. Mine sent back diagnosed with bad mother board. No motherboard available in US, will not be for awhile. A long while was what i was told by repair facility. I do believe they are cannibalising units to refurbish.
Yet another complaint thread for a well-discussed problem. Mod, please delete.

I was a little nervous about some of the flaws I read before I purchased my tab. I seem to have none of the problems except the laggy text input on the browser. I inspected my tabfirst thing when i opened the box and discovered no visual problems on the screen.
The Newton rings can appear later on... there are people who got them after 5 weeks.
My belief is that they are frequent on the first batch... My screen is extremely rigid and darker than the ones shown in videos. You can hardly see the difference between the bezel area and the screen:

The picture was taken at an angle against my black monitor screen. In the lower right corner you see the color difference between the bezel and actual screen, taken against a white wall reflection. I press it fairly hard in several areas and did not have any issues.
I guess it was the trade to have an unlocked device.
I'd rather have a locked bootloader and a perfect screen...
apple stores would have swapped it before you can finish your sentence.
they replaced mine for minor lightbleed ...got a perfect one.

XDA is no longer worth my time.
I have noticed my 7.7 has a display discoloration on the samsung logo side. It can be seen best when using the stock keyboard and turning down the brightness. I thought it is how the keyboard looks first, but I can turn the tab in all directions the discoloring stays where it is, so it has to be the screen. It looks like some greenish tint, and fades absolutely smooth so I havent noticed it before. But now that I know it it just hits the eye... I cant or almost cant see it when displaying white or bright colors, I see it most visible on greys.
My question is: does anyone else have this problem? Should I send my tab for repair?

it's common, almost 8/10 users have it, only a few 'lucky' ones (they claim they don't have screen issues but can't even post a single photo of their screens. ha!) have no issues what so ever..

I am one of the ones who claimed to have a perfect screen, it took weeks before I was able to figure out why I couldn't see what was just a part of manufacture: burn-in circles...I use sketchbook pro (notice the little tiny circle down at the bottom?--even that was shedding enough light to keep my eyes from dialating enough to see the backlight.) I just had to make a black image, export it as png, and open it in the gallery....in my closet....at night....with the door closed...and all the lights off in my bedroom to see it.
But it is absolutely invisible with any kind of normal use. Even sketching at night in a black canvas, I still can't see it.
I haven't taken a picture of my screen because I have no other device with which to do so.
Now to the OP: maybe (or perhaps obviously) my color acuity isn't as perfect as some of these photographers. So unless my minor colorblindness just HAPPENS to be to the colors this display is distorting to, I can't see what's wrong with your screen. Maybe others can. I had a friend accidentally knock my 24" monitor off my desk and he actually caught it! --leaving this horrid thumb print on the upper left hand corner....for an artist, ANNOYING....he replaced it.
Anyway, are you talking about the banding from middle to upper left? That looks like photo distortion and not actually on screen. So I'm not sure what you're talking about.
Are you still within refund/exchange period?
Yes, I think it's quite common in SAMOLED Screen, I have been experience it on my SGS2 and Gtab 7.7. At first it's really annoying but I can live with that, the problem is only visible on low light environment.
But if you want to you can take you tab to samsung for screen replacement, I've done that with my SGS2, but the problem is still there.

yep, it will take extremes to notice the screen issue
one more thing is the status bar burn in, I'm one of the 1st who posted the picture of my tablet, displaying a grey image, you can clearly see the 'darker' portion where the notification bar is. but ever since I used the honey bar app + black status bar, the 'status bar line' is almost gone,
Wait, OP, you're talking about the greenish darkening on the left side? I had that on my first tablet. From verizon, except it was on the "top" (in reference to pic orientation). I returned it. This issue is DEFINITELY covered under warranty, and they will service it, either by giving you a new one, or replacing your screen. Depends on how far out feom your purchase date you are. Did you buy throigh an importer or through verizon? On contract or off?

Yes the greenish darkening is what I talked about! I have it on the bottom side (the one where samsung's logo is located. right side on the photo). So this will be solved when I get my device/screen replaced?
I bought in on contract 2 months ago, so still under warranty.
Thanks for your help!
If it discolors the screen on full brightness then yes, its defective. Verizon replaced mine, but it was within the 2 week refund period. I foind one $250 cheaper than the $750 I paid. Unroot if rooted of course!

I sent it for repair. Now I have to wait two more weeks until I can enjoy ICS. At least I dont have to flash it myself as samsung said they will update it for me in the repairing process.
Finally got my tab back with brand new display installed. It has the same discoloration like the old one. Seems like this is just how those displays are... It annoys me as everyone asks me if it is normal that the keyboard looks like that and imho it's absolutely not. This combined with the crappy looking text every tab 7.7 user suffers from makes me think of switching to iPad3. I don't like the format but display is just so much better...
I really don't want to talk bad about samsung, but every time i purchased one of their products at least something sucked or didn't work. This will be my last samsung product for sure.
Just got my new black Samsung galaxy s5 on att. I have noticed something that I hope will not become an issue that would cause me to have to exchange the phone. I noticed a small gap at the top of my screen where the screen meets the bezel. There is some dust that has gotten in there and I have only had the phone for a week. The rest of the phone (sides and bottom) are flush with no gaps. Is this normal or should I worry and let my OCD drive me to exchange it? Have any of you experienced this?
same issue
Funny i was wondering if I was over reacting. I saw this gap and thought the same thing. I had a Motorola Atrix that got dusty under the screen due to the same type off thing. I have not put recovery on my phone so that Knox does not trip. I'd like to hear more from people before i think about warranty. I will refuse a refurbished phone.

Well take it for what it is but at least you are not alone. There are two of us with this issue. As for whether it is normal or not, well I am not sure and that is why I posted here. I am with you on the warranty. I will not take a refurb phone. I will check a couple in the ATT store tomorrow and report back my findings. My 14 days is up thursday so I need to decide quick if this is a real issue. Thank you for replying!!

Same issue on both mine and my collegues device.
Please post a picture so we can see.
I will try and post pictures tonight. If anyone else could post picture of theirs we could compare and see if maybe this is just the design of the phone. Again, thank you all for replying!

Pics please, and no its not normal. If dust can get into the phone then so can water and so its not water resistent anymore. I would exchange if it we`re me
Exchange it!!
I would definitely exchange it. That gap would compromise the IP67 that the GS5 has. And what I hear alot is Samsung CS sucks!! So you don't wanna have to deal with them should something happen.
Do you guys actually own a GS5? Could you check yours and see. It is not big, just enough to fit a piece of paper into. And is that confirmed that it would compromise the ip67 certification? I mean do you really know that for sure?
Not trying to be rude but just inquiring.
Yes I do own a GS5. And there is no gap. It's tight all around the bezel. And sorry, I meant to say it COULD, not would. Can't trust autocorrect these days Lol

No problem! Just checking. Alright well it looks like I am going to try and do an exchange. Now my only worry is what will happen if the replacement has the same issue?
Then get a really good cover for it! Lol. But hopefully that won't be the case. Fingers are crossed for you! There's nothing more annoying than getting a faulty looking unit right out of the box :/ @Primenay13

Your phone is extremely linty, so its hard to tell much. Also, you should circle what you're referring to. From the pictures I don't see anything unusual.

That is the point. For me, the only part that gather lint is in this gap between the screen and top bezel. I have another picture here that will show you the nature of the gap. I used a piece of paper for scale. The piece of paper can fit right in between this gap, even folded.
Picture 1 https://iu.box.com/s/mb4tas4limxxwyrrbecr
Here is a picture circling what I was talking about https://iu.box.com/s/1997kzvtsfaxavp08w8a
Notice how on the right side where I circled, the screen glass is flush with the bezel. There is dust on top of the screen but not inside this gap. However, on the top where I circled, there is a noticeable gap where there is dust INSIDE.
Also some additional information, The replacement phone I got has the same thing!!!! UHHHHH..

Don't know if it's a rare coincidence or all units are all having some form of defects.
Getting my 4th one soon and I'm already worried.
I reckon that T mobile got there hands on a beta batch that have defects
I seriously doubt it is dust, as the AMOLED technology doesn't allow dust to penetrate between the screen and the display as they are one. So it could be dead pixels.
It is possible that during manufacturing some dust penetrated under the digitizer before it got glued to the screen. Return it until you get a perfect unit.
Sent from my Moto G 2014 using XDA Free mobile app
Mine has a small black speck on the left in-between the aluminum frame and the glass. It's only visible if I'm looking at the screen straight on or tilt it. It kind of drives me crazy when I remember it's there, I don't know if I should send it back.
Well 4th time's the charm right? That actually looks like a dead pixel... if the 4th one screws up, what will be your options? Keep asking for one until they give you one that is finally good?

Doubt it. When placing the screen, as far as I know, they do it in dust-free environment so it isn't really possible any particles to go between the screen and the display.
Look at all the pictures - it doesn't look like dust, it looks like dead pixels. And having dead pixels is normal on every phone - yeah, could be annoying but that's about it. I think Samsung has a policy that they will return your phone if and only if you have a certain amount of dead pixels (at least it was like that during the time of the S4). Hence if you have a single dead pixel chances are that they are gonna tell you to f**k off
It's definitely not a dead pixel. I looked at the phone at a wide angle and is definitely a spec of black dust.

I seriously doubt it is dust, as the AMOLED technology doesn't allow dust to penetrate between the screen and the display as they are one. So it could be dead pixels.

Why is it not possible to have dust on AMOLED screen?

Because everything in the display + the outer glass is glued together in a dust-free environment.

But that dust-free environment is not 100% dust-proof. Just like everything in life.
I've got my 4th one today. The screen is clear of any particles. Although. Samsung yet has to answer for the pink hue issue on most of their displays on smartphone.

Mine has a small black speck on the left in-between the aluminum frame and the glass. It's only visible if I'm looking at the screen straight on or tilt it. It kind of drives me crazy when I remember it's there, I don't know if I should send it back.

As opposed to how everyone else looks at the screen? On a 90 degree angle?
Sorry not poking fun at you.. Yes you should take it back.
Shoddy QA needs to be dealt with at a corporate level and the only way to do that is if everyone sends their devices back when they have crap like that happening!

How the heck is a environment considered 100% dust-proof anyway? Having twenty thousand ionizers around the entrances to the room?
Dust exists everywhere, presumably they get the screens from the factory that makes them.. There is guaranteed to be dust in that factory.. They then open up the screen packaging to get access to them.. Sure enough that dust free room is now containing dust.
It's like a mysophobic nightmare.

Good to hear! Well sort of.
Mine has a spec right in the middle of the screen, definitely not a dead pixel, I'm probably going to call and get a replacement
Guys, Just received my Samsung Galaxy s6 black 32gb sim free today from Amazon UK.
Noticed a large spec of dust under screen too getting a replacement unit tomorrow.
The quality control on this phone is just as bad as Apple iPhone 6 hope I don't get banned on Amazon for returning too many phone's due to Samsung shoddy quality control team.
I have it too

just got my phone from the service the other day for a screen replacement and the new screen has a spec of dust in it. You can see it that is under the glass. Do they change the screen under warranty if you have a spec of dust ?!?!
Ive opened a new thread for this if someone is interested: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/general/changed-screen-warranty-dust-screen-t3328890

Why would you so proudly announce that you made a duplicate thread? Not cool bro.
long version of the problem
Just got my phone after screen replacement and I have noticed a spec of dust under the glass and the samsung logo is not straight. The spacing around the the logo is to the left. That is not all, you can see the glue under the glass there are waves of discoloration from the glue used. I have told the official service the problem of the new screen they just put on my phone and they told me the screen is send from samsung as it is. WE can not change it again ! WHAT ?! They wanna tell me that if they change the screen once because of manufacturing fault (the original screen was not responding to touch and it was yellow-ish) they cant change it again ?! Please someone explain the laws of warranty
You can see everything on the images except the waves that are very difficult to photograph.
The good old dyson helped me in the past sucking out dust on my iphone

The person mentioning about impossible presence of dust in a so called "dust-free" environment (they are actually called clean rooms) is either an idiot or uninformed. Contamination is not impossible. And many factories across the globe have rather questionable clean rooms, you should start doing some research.
I was holding my phone and just messing around with it while watching a movie earlier, and I pushed on the screen a bit (Stupid, I know). I don't know if that was the cause but there is now a faint blue dot probably ~1/2 cm in diameter in the middle of my screen. There's also a much smaller and more faint red dot a ways below that and to the left. It's definitely an issue with the LCD. It's not extremely noticeable, but when that area of the screen is black/grey it's enough to bug me. If I let it sit overnight will this just go away, or did I just screw myself? Will I have to get a replacement? I should still have a few days of warranty left so hopefully this is covered if that is the case.
Stuck pixel? Download the LCD test app and you'll be able to see clearly when it changes colors. I'd return it.

I don't think it's dead pixels. I downloaded the app and it only appears on black/dark grey and it stays the same regardless of brightness. I might have to return it and that sucks I can't be without a phone for even just a few days.

From what I hear, if you give your phone to motorola for warrenty, they will let you use your current phone until your new one arrives.
Hardly a warranty issue here according to the OP's own statement. It's like saying I jabbed a pencil into a light bulb and it broke now I want a warranty replacement? Another reason prices keep rising.

What was the resolution as my phone has the same issue and still within 14 days and I don't have a backup phone.
This issue just showed up on my wife's MXPE. She is notoriously gentle on her phone and claims that it is not possible to be related to damage. A quick web search found several others with the same claim. Has anyone heard of a resolution?

My son's phone has the same thing. I just got off the phone with Motorola, and they are going to replace it. You have two options, the first is to send in the phone and they will send you a new one. The other option is called Advance Exchange. They will send you the new one, and when you receive it, you send back the old one. If you do the advance exchange they will place a $500 hold on your credit card, to insure you send the old one back, and there is a $24.99 fee.

Just warranty.
This happened to my screen recently. I've had the phone for about 6 months. Is it still just a warranty call, or is it a Moto Care call (which I have)?
Maybe it's the ghost of Carl Sagan

Something is possibly distressing the back of the LCD screen (sorta like when one presses on a laptop screen). I have read other threads claiming too tight of phone cases warping the LCD to over tightened internal hardware component screws twisting the frame thus warping the LCD (i.e. after a repair job). The best one I read and most believable is...say your battery goes defective, bad charging practices, wrong voltage or the battery just getting old. Lithium batteries have a tendency to puff up and start bulging. Now lets say there is an internal component or a screw head under the LCD right where the blue dot is (small objects producing small dot, blunter components producing larger muted discolorations). I suspect different pressures might cause different colors (red, yellow, green etc.) too due to greater pressures as battery gets older and inflates more? So maybe it's not a defective LCD, but defective engineering and bad design practices.
