My friend wants to hide his nexus 7's navigation bar so he has more room on his screen. he doesn't like how the navigation bar takes up his 7 inch sceen. I know you need root to do this, but is there possibly another way without root like any app to hide the navigation bar without root?

sadly no.
If you install a different launcher you can hide it on the home screen but that's it.
Agreed. And really, more room?? For what?

Errrr, thats easy. Unhide the navbar again when you want to quit the game, by holding in the power button and toggling 'expand desktop'. I do it quite a lot when I'm playing games to hide the navbar.
Think you do need root though.

OP you could try this

[APP][BETA][TRIAL] DeskBar Launcher will replace your soft buttons and more!
Not sure if it will suit your needs but worth a try.

With Kit Kat, it's usually hidden by default and you just swipe down at the top of the screen and it brings up the status and nav bar for about 5 seconds.
Definitely makes playing games, like Fruit Ninja, less aggravating when you accidentally swipe the home button and out of the game you go.

nasty "google search on ics"
latest kangs have option in the homescreen to disable it.
Nice explanation as usual.
But... why? This disables the physical search button and leaves a blank unusable gap under the top bar. Is there a way to extend the usable grid upward once the search bar is gone?
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
just a personal choice, i dnt use search much so for me this bar on the top is a waste ..
Also I worry about burn in the search is going to cause on our amoleds.

is there burn in on your notification bar? or your menu icon (which is on you screen the same amount of time)?
if not, why would you worry about search bar burn in?
if so, why dont you switch to a non amoled phone?
People need a video for selecting "disable" in the Google app setting?

There is a reason google took away the am/pm on the status bar and changed the color to black: to stop burn in. It's a real issue and people should be wary of it.

There's a setting to get rid of the divider bar(s) under "Dock".

:good: Excellent. I assumed it was for the dock only, but this does remove the left hand side bar in landscape. Clearly an option for each bar is needed as I would like to keep the one for the dock.

I've tried doing this, the bar has gone, but I still can't use the extra space! I really want to use the extra space so it's not wasted. How can I do this? I'm on Nova Prime latest....
Using CM nightly (18th).
I have a pattern lock and removed the side widgets with Lockscreen Policy. Last thing to go would be the circular dots at the bottom that are part of the Google Now swipe.
On a separate note, is there a reason you can pull down the clock to expose a blank area underneath?
Sorry for poorly notated screenshot:

The space is for when you have multiple clocks for different time zones.
if u fill ur lock screen with widgets, u press that to bring up the unlock settings.
You could use an app like widgetlocker or go locker. They'd probably have the option to hide the google now circle.
I miss the simple ICS/ 4.1.2 lockscreen

WidgetLocker does one of two things. It either leaves the Home, Back, and Recents buttons there, or, if you enable root helper, it will replace those with the GNow Circle. No option for a black bar.

You could always make the Google now circle blend into the lock screen if you're using paranoidandroid like so.

In hybrid settings, set the launcher's nav bar color and transparency to match the lock screen color n transparency. It takes some tweaking to get the right color but you'll find it soon enough.
I'm using #55000000 but you may need to tweak it a bit depending on your wallpaper
Or you could take a screenshot of your lock screen, find the color code for it using the color picker in Photoshop and then enter that value in the launchers nav bar color picker.

Not sure I'm seeing what you're seeing. The dotted circle is still in your screenshot.
Yea but its not within a black bar. The wallpaper extends to the bottom. And its just one possible way to mask it and make it look nice since I'm not too interested in getting rid of it completely anyway.

Ya... I too want to remove that upward pointed triangle from the lock screen as it is giving me issues.. It is even present behind my Home button and disables its functionality even after unlocking the screen.
Somebody help please
I've looked around and it appears there are a number of paid apps that apparently let me change the soft keys, but I'm not 100% sure if they'll work with the stock LG G2 "OS"...
I want my multitasking button back... No need for a settings button, IMO.

Absolutely. And I'm handy with UNIX, so navigating the filesystem and using text editors to muck with XML isn't a problem. I'm just not a developer.

Just tested, no you can not. It will always hide after you lock your screen, so you'll have to swipe/touch to bring the soft keys back up.

And also it will always overlap over the screen. There are ways to keep the navbar from disappearing, but you won't be able to access anythi g underneath it because it doesn't shift the screen up, just overlay

My quasi solution was auto hide soft keys, auto to 0, auto hide only had anywhere on the bar checked, and swipe. You still need to swipe after wake, but if you need anything under it, just tap the left side to hide. If you use the mock option, home will leave space for it.

I use GMD soft keys to hide them completely then use LMT for pie. That way I can completely control my button layout, gain screen real estate, navigate from left right and bottom and do it with whatever colors I choose. A must have for me.
