Nova launcher side bar - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

In landscape I can't seem to get rid of this bar, even after hiding the search bar. Anyone had any luck removing it? On beta 4.

I had issues with Nova but the Apex launcher was sweet and no side bar issue.

Looks really good, but the app drawer in portrait only has four columns. Any way to make it five?

There's a setting to get rid of the divider bar(s) under "Dock".

:good: Excellent. I assumed it was for the dock only, but this does remove the left hand side bar in landscape. Clearly an option for each bar is needed as I would like to keep the one for the dock.

I've tried doing this, the bar has gone, but I still can't use the extra space! I really want to use the extra space so it's not wasted. How can I do this? I'm on Nova Prime latest....

Pull down notification bar?

Currently running cyanogenmod on my 7.7, I would prefer the 'phone' interface with the pull down notification bar, is there any way that I can enable this?
Thanks

I think this requires a dpi change . I'm not sure, but I'd be interested in trying this out. It'd work kinda like the Nexus 7.

Set swipe-down gesture (on any decent launcher) to "open notification".
Yeah, swipe down notification like a phone, but i wanna it workable on landscape too

I don't understand why anyone likes the pull down bar, to me the most natural place is at the bottom of the screen where my thumbs rest. It's hassle to have to move to the top of the screen. What advantages is it to have the bar at the top?

The term pull up bar was already taken. And no one likes pull up bars
You can change it with modifying the build.prop file and change the settings for:
ro.sf.lcd_density=160
I think if you set it to 240 it will run in so called "phablet" mode and you have the Pull down bar.
I tried it, but almost broke my installation, as the screen stayed totally black after a reboot.
So i stopped fiddling with this option.

Any way to change the soft keys?

I've looked around and it appears there are a number of paid apps that apparently let me change the soft keys, but I'm not 100% sure if they'll work with the stock LG G2 "OS"...
I want my multitasking button back... No need for a settings button, IMO.

Absolutely. And I'm handy with UNIX, so navigating the filesystem and using text editors to muck with XML isn't a problem. I'm just not a developer.
Also interested in being able to change it that key to recent apps.

Just tested, no you can not. It will always hide after you lock your screen, so you'll have to swipe/touch to bring the soft keys back up.

And also it will always overlap over the screen. There are ways to keep the navbar from disappearing, but you won't be able to access anythi g underneath it because it doesn't shift the screen up, just overlay

My quasi solution was auto hide soft keys, auto to 0, auto hide only had anywhere on the bar checked, and swipe. You still need to swipe after wake, but if you need anything under it, just tap the left side to hide. If you use the mock option, home will leave space for it.

I sent the nova developer an email about it. He said he is looking into it. He can enable if LG allows third party apps access to that feature.

I use GMD soft keys to hide them completely then use LMT for pie. That way I can completely control my button layout, gain screen real estate, navigate from left right and bottom and do it with whatever colors I choose. A must have for me.

Is this normal for Nova Launcher Prime to do this?

I know this may sound really stupid but it is really bugging me now.
I have set nova on transparent bar. When I unlock my phone (using stock lockscreen), the notification bar flashes very fast and goes back to transparent. I'm not sure if I explained myself right.
Does your nova do this? Thankssssss.

No, but you might be using some kind of home proxy, i.e one that launches home from inside an app when you hit the home button.
Open Nova settings and check the default home is actually Nova.

Once you download and launch nova. There will be some widgets on your home screen prompting you to restore your layout from either a previous nova backup or a different launcher. Just create yourself a backup within go launcher (if it has that option) then restore from that backup. It may not restore everything depending on widgets you have currently but you won't have to start from scratch. I use nothing but nova prime.

Is this possible? Nav buttons in notifications tray?

I've seen the apps and edits to remove or replace the navigate buttons (home, back, recent apps) or even move them to the side... But what about moving them entirely to the notifications tray? Is this a bad idea?
For the videos and apps that remove the tray, there could be a hot corner or gesture to bring it back up. Should I have patented this idea before posting?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
That's called tablet ui.

Patent it or not, Apple would still steal it.

Tablet UI would bring it to the statusbar. Not the notification area.
To the OP: this would be bad for accessibility. Imagine using an app that requires you to double press back to exit. You would neet to pull down the notification area twice... just to close an app.

Fullscreen app gives you two hot corners, replacing the back/home, but I found I kept accidently hitting the corners within other apps or surfing, no matter whether I put them top or bottom. I ended up using Pie Control app, customised with Nav buttons to solve the problem. LOVE the huge screen via fullscreen.

Wow sorry for my late reply everybody. Thank you for you feedback. I haven't looked at tablet ui but I will. I have installed GMDs auto hide nag buttons. I like it. Sometimes. One thing I do not like is that the menu button for apps like Chrome are automatically moved to the navbar. I know I can turn it off but the menu button is just gone. Not a huge deal but I also don't like how it is sometimes less responsive than the stock navbar. Either way, I'm still shopping.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
You should try AOKP rom which you can toggle phablet and tablet UI, I've been using this feature since 4.1.
As for in app menu button, there is in option called "Show menu UI overflow" in the rom to enable it.

If you are referring to the animation that happens when swiping from one screen to the next then you can change it. Settings, display, home screen, screen swipe effect.
Thanks, I did that. But it happens as your swiping. There is a small bounce effect on all animations. Reminds me of Gingerbread. I would like it to just fade instead of bounce. I hope I am making sense. Remember Launcher Pro and ADW? You could choose to have a bouncy effect or fade in etc as you rotate the screens?

If you tried everything and still don't want it, try downloading launcher applications, i.e. Launcher Pro and ADW.
You know, I picked up my wifes Flex today and even though I still noticed a slight overshoot while scrolling screens. The overshoot was not nearly as bad. Plus the transition seemed smoother.
