We all know some of us have it, and it's annoying at the most. Right now, my N10 has it pretty bad. I can still return it to Walmart but that's a pain. I was wondering if anyone has tried to fix it, or has? I haven't opened up a Nexus 10, but I'm sure I can.

Ive noticed something odd with my screen lately, and was wondering if anyone else has, has any solutions, or knows if its covered.
the screen, on the keyboard side, comes up a little, like the glass..pokes up a little from its normal spot to just above level with the side of the phone. its not enough to hurt anything..its just annoying and i push it back down, 5 minutes later its worked it way back up. the other side does this but not nearly as bad.
I bought the phone on craigslist a couple of months ago, the phone has worked flawlessly and is it fantastic shape, so i dont think that is a factor although i thought i should mention it.
Im just wondering if anyone has heard of this and knows a do it yourself solution. or knows if its covered under any warranty with sprint, seeing as i didnt purchase it off of them. i have insurance on the phone, but i'd rather not file a claim for something so tiny. Thanks for reading hope this helps, lol
Mine is the same way.

Just recieved my Nexus 7 today and when going to turn it on, I was greeted by a fantastic grey, washed out screen. This can't be normal can it? Has anyone else had this problem and managed to fix it? Any help would be greatly appreciated! I have attached an image for people to inspect, and the only reason I am creating a new thread is because I don't think this is the same issue as the other 'screen washed out' thread. Thanks!
Oh wow. There is no easy way to say it but, no, that is not normal. It may be just that the display cable is not connected all the way or that there actually is something wrong with the screen itself. Either way though, I would RMA that. Tell Google to overnight it like the rest of them that are shipping and you want it advance RMAed.
The problems with these devices is unacceptable.

Hmm this is going to seem VERY weird, but just two seconds ago, I got up out of my chair quickly while holding the device and now the screen looks fine. What is going on with the QC with these? Would you reccomend still RMAing it? I am not even joking, I simply stood up with the device and it fixed itself.
EDIT: Well guess what. I left the device off for the duration of just writing this post and it is back to its washed out self. Looks like it's time to RMA!

Yes, definitely. Just because the problem has(or so it appears to have) fixed itself for the time being doesn't mean that the problem won't creep up or just full blown come back right out of warranty/return window. Also, if something like that got through quality control, what else could be wrong with the device? I would still RMA to be sure. Since this problem appears to be coming and going, I would try to send a picture of the problem in action to someone at Google and have them attach it to your RMA. Maybe even try to put your Google email address in there on a piece of paper or something so that they know that you indeed did take the picture because if they recieve it with no apparent problems, they will assume that you are just returning the device and charge you a 15% surcharge.

Your not the only one that has this problem looks like first batch shipments have alot defects and bugs
Thanks very much for your replies! I have used the Google Play 'contact us' page (not sure if this is the best way but it's a start!) to get this RMA going. Very annoyed at the QC on this device and this many glaring issues really doesn't give me high hopes about the replacement either.
Already sent mine back to ebuyer. Had light bleed. So annoying. Rushed them out I think.

Hey,
I just got this tablet brand new from Google. I turn it on and there is a red line going across the screen. I also did the software upgrade and that did not fix the issue.
Someone know whats wrong?
Yea, you got a bad screen. I would contact customer service to see about a return.

Return it, that's a hardware issue.

Just got my Nexus 7 tonight. Plugged it in, everything came on no problem. Set the WiFi and was told there was an update. When it came back on the screen was red with just faint outlines of stuff in the background. Same problem? I'm taking it back tomorrow. 16 gig Nexus 7. This is my first experience with Android. Not impressed.

It's not really a problem with 'Android' more of a problem of Asus's build quality / quality control. Don't get put off by this tablet, as most phones and other tablets have no issues.

In fact you may be right. But this is my first trip from the other side because I just didn't want to spend $500 and wanted to see what else was out there. N7 seemed like a great place to jump in. Now I drive back to the store for an exchange after one day? Not what I was expecting. Before I leave the store, I'm going to have them power it up, do any setup and update, and play around with it for a while to be sure. I really want this to work cause the size is perfect for my need.

Yeah, I would exchange it, then examine it closely before going home. I'd even make a note of the defects listed in this thread, which represent most of the issues people have encountered so far, and look for all of them. The only thing I've seen mentioned that isn't on that list is ghosting/image retention. There are some good apps in the Play Store for testing dead pixels and light bleeding, which would make finding those a lot quicker and easier to do in the store or parking lot.
Good luck!
Hi everyone, my wife just bought me a nexus 7 for my birthday last week and I absolutely love it. I used to have a playbook but the lack of apps made me sell it and I have been without a tablet for awhile. After getting the unit, I found this website and in turn found out about the screen lift issues with the N7. To be honest I didnt even realize that I had any issue with mine until I found this website.
So my question is will this problem get worse or cause any other issues if I don't try to fix it since I dont want to take the unit apart (Funny coming from an engineer). Or should I return it in hopes that my next N7 will be better.
Thanks.
My previous nexus 7 had screen lift issues. I kept it for a while and it only got worse. I'd suggest returning it for a new one. My replacement device from Google play is flawless.

Hey!
I'm here to ask you something! I own a white nexus 4, and I've been experiencing some sort of 'problem' with my screen.
I recorded a video of it and I wanted to see if anyone ever experienced this!
I'm putting it this way, 'problem', because I sent my device to warranty, and they said to me it was a 'nexus 4 thing' and wasn't a problem
Of course, I left the device there for another examination and I'm still waiting for another contact
The reason I'm asking it here is, I found very strange that a very popular device like nexus 4 has a problem like this, and I haven't seen anyone complaining
The video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4eE29JlwOxU
Ok, explaining it, pretty much everything that has a bright color in it and stays for a while on the screen, leaves a mark for some time
for example, in the video, i've used the chrome browser, and you can see that some things stay marked in the screen after I leave the app
This happens when I'm using the browser or other apps for a while
If some of you guys could test it and see if your devices present the same problem or not, that would be nice
I only realized this after some months of use, so I think I didn't have this problem when I bought it, but I could be mistaken
thanks in advance, btw, I think I have a picture, but I'm not finding it, if I do, I'll post here
I've never seen or had that problem before. I mean I've had touch issues which is about it. Since you're in warranty I'd assume they'd do LCD replacement. I had to get mine replaced and the touch issue happened after I updated to 4.4.2

Thanks!
I thought so, I mean, they tried to return it saying to me it was a 'normal' thing on nexus 4 devices
I hope that this time they fix it
this is "image retention" on IPS screens :

thanks for the reply
I didn't know about this IPS screen problem..
thats too bad!
I already had another devices with IPS and never experienced that though.
Lets see what LG will tell me in their next contact, about my phone
thanks
