Power plug broke off in jack! - Acer Iconia A500

Half of the power plug broke off at the groove in the plug and is stuck in the power jack. Has anyone else had this happen? How did you get it out. The jack is too small to get tweezers in there. I'm hoping I won't have to take the tablet apart.

There's a thread on this in here somewhere...
superglue on toothpick
touch JUST the broken tip
hold in place
remove

Had exactly same thing.
Used a needle and pushed and lifted the part, don't try pinching, you'll end up breaking the plug
Meanwhile charge your device over the usb-mini port

So, the devs worked out how to charge on usb??? Man, I have been gone for a while....

Problem on my N1 (de soldered SMD component)

Hi,
I disassembled my N1 for changing the main flex cable (cutted power button) and in the disassembling procedure I noticed that one of the SMD components on the motherboard was de-soldered or not correctly soldered (twisted). I re-accommodated with a pair of tweezers and it did not hang loose (yet!).
What kind of function does this SMD do? Can I expect the phone to work?
I have experience with soldering iron but think this is too small for me.
I can't test it right now because my new main flex has not arrived yet.
Maybe you can solder it with an oven for CMS ?

I'm not very familiar with oven soldering; dunno if I will kill other components or If i need some kind of flux.
Also a heat gun would do the work but probably desolder other components.
I broke off a couple of the smd components right next to that connector (the screen connection) they effect color on the screen. Mine showed only red after I broke 2. It was usable but not pretty.

Thanks for your answer.
You broke those very same components?
As soon as I get my main flex i will try it and see if it report problems. It probably will as that component is there for something.
You might be able to re-flow it with a heat gun.

Actually I'm looking for a chinese reflow station with a hot air gun with a tiny nozzle. Probably will do the work but...
Should I use some kind of flux? Any recommendations? Never done a hot air reflow.
Looks like the same but hard to tell in the pics. I can't really see on my phone.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
that is a set of inline resistors, meaning it is quite a few connections, the best way is to use some flux from a needle and a soldering iron with a small tip,you could use a hot air machine but on a fully assembled board i would not recommend it.. flux is needed but you may be able to get away with a large soldering iron.
My advice would be to pay someone to fix it.. that way if they mess up ya get a new phone
Find someone with a reflow air knife, anyone who does SMT work would have one. It'd take 5 seconds to put that RP back on as long as you didn't break any of the pads doing whatever it is that you did that caused you to break it. Yikes.
May i ask you where u got the power cable? I need one too, how much was it? And is it hard to replace?
N1
I bought it on www.aliexpress.com
It was around USD$45.
I still don't receive it, as soon as I recive it I will report if the phone works and if it is an easy repair.
Best Regards.
The phone it's not turning on.
I tried it disassembled with the new main flex cable, motherboard and only lcd conencted.
Nothing happened when I press the power button.
The only sign of life is the ambar led that turns on when you connect the charger.
The tiny little SMD part fell off the mother board so it is completly unsoldered. Could this be the cause of not turning at all?
Looking forward to your answers.
Yes, if a single component is missing or even has a bridge in the solder, it could cause complete failure. There is a reason for it being there. If it were me, I would try to resolder it. Grab an iron and some wick and get what you can off of the board. Then try to reflow the part back on. If it works, great. If not, you still have a nice looking paperweight.
Well, I soldered the little SMD back with a soldering/hot air station but the motherboard still don't turn on.
It was working before, maybe I'm doing something wrong.
Thanks for your support.

[Q] the charger broke off inside my tab

Half the of the metal tip on my charger broke off inside my tablets charge port is there any way to pry it open and push it out
You might try a rare-earth magnet, or similar. Or a pair of fine needle-nose pliers. That failing, is it still under warranty or did you buy it with a CC that has an extended-warranty service?
That's rough! :-(

The same thing happened to me, the charger is a cruel joke. Flimsy tip and the cable is way too short. I was able to fish it out with a needle or screwdriver or something, I can't remember what. I then glued it back on with super glue and it's been perfect ever since
Not sure what this has to do with Android development by the way.

LCD and Digitizer problems

Hey guys,
Just got a HTC espresso off my mate. Anyway he said it had problems (lc not working and digitiser not working) So I was just wondering is anyone else having the same possible hardware issue. And if you have fixed it how did you?
Thanks

LMAO. Happy "first post"
Anyway, you'll require a new LCD Flex and possibly a new motherboard connector. Buy a T5 and have a look inside; see what's wrong.
Just to let you know, if it operates, it doesn't have a fully damaged LCD/Digitizer...

Thanks man. When I get the screw driver do you think you'd be able to give me a hand in showing what I need to do?

It's easy enough. Pop the battery out, unscrew 3-4 T5 screws and lift the housing off, and work from there.

I've had similar issues - phone worked with black screen. I've bought a spare flex ribbon cable on the eBay.
You'll need to remove the back cover, battery, memory card. Then unscrew 4 T and 2 phillips (+) screws. Use plastic card and a usual (-) screwdriver to detach back frame and you'll see the mainboard. Remove it and you'll see 8 philips screws that holds both sliding parts together. Unscrew them and detach the front half with the screen. Then remove 2 plastic patches from the sides of it - you'll see 4 more screws that hold the front part. Unscrew them and carefully pop the parts with a plastic cards. That's basically all. Then you'll be able to connect the new cable and put all the things together in reverse order.

I know I'm popping in techno's place, but how much did the cable cost?
Also, we met up the other day (he's local) and found the volume buttons and the touchscreen itself didn't work. What will we need? So far I've got:
•Torx T5 Screwdriver
•Phillips Head Screwdriver
•Flathead Screedriver
•A Fully **** MyTouch 3G Slide

The cable was $10 plus free shipping from HK. There's a lot of them there available (just "put flex ribbon cable mytouch 3g slide" to the search - I don't have 10 posts yet so I can't make a direct link).
The volume keys contacts are attached to the mainboard with a small flex cable, which you don't really need to detach. Everything you'll need is just to put them into the place under the rocker button when assemblying, and if they are not broken they should work. If someone ever opened your phone, he could forget/missed this operation and probably that's why they are not working.
About the tools: it would be nice if you have screwdrivers of different size. Although I didn't have a torx screwdriver and managed to fix the phone using a flathead screwdriver of corresponding size.
One more thing: the cable has a metal plate. It has the light sensor and green/red LED and goes to the top of the front plate. You'll also need to put a small rubber spacer from the old cable to the new one.
In general it wasn't a complicated procedure - just be careful, don't shuffle different screws together and you'll succeed

Alright mad
Thanks a ****load for your help haven't fixed a phone since my HD2 haha. Slide phones tend to be assholes.
The previous owner, [i{Looking4Trouble[/i], said he had opened the phone once before he shipped to technotram91, and yeah I was the middleman lol.
Off to the fleabay it is

Hope that this information will be helpful in such cases: I've found some repair guides with pics and videos:
HTC T-Mobile MyTouch 3G Slide Disassembly Repair Guide
HTC MyTouch 3G Slide Speaker Replacement Guide
I replaced the LCD Screen and Digitize and still have a blank screen, the phone turns on, I get the TMO Jingle, the back light works on the keyboard and home keys, and I get a flashing green LED at the top. So could the ribbon cable be bad?? or is there anything else I can do first before buying the cable.
Any and all information will be greatly appreciated.

Headphone jack broke off inside my n7..please help

In the title : I dropped my n7 and the headphone "stem" broke off inside the jack. Is it possible for me to crack this thing open myself? Please help, I use my headphone jack everyday.

the headphone jack is angled at the back can u use anything sharp to get a wedge on the stuck plug? like try sliding a pin 1mm between the plug n jack then pivot to try n pry it out?

Just to re-itterate, the only way to get it out is obviously trying to pry it out.
As stated above try to wedge it with a pin.
If not, do what I did with my Wildfire S, crack it open (VERY SIMPLE WITH THE N7)!
Go from the back of the jack and push it up.

Go from the back of the jack? I don't understand what you mean.
Sent from my Nexus 7
Well with the back off, you can see the internals of the jack, I pushed from the bottom out. Basically the reverse of putting it in, you push down.
Wereas you need to take back off, flip the tab and push up.
I hope that makes sense
Just to add...
A pair of tweezers (if you happen to have a pair).. or a powerful magnet might draw it out.
Edit...
Just had a look inside my Nexus 7, and the socket is completely enclosed... so you won't be able to push out from the other side, as I think Wilks3y was alluding to...but with the back off , and my own headphones plugged in, I note that more of the jackplug is exposed... if you have some needle nosed pliers, you should, with care, be able to extract it.
The back of the Nexus 7 just unclips... I use my fingernails - start at the top (the camera end) and slowly work your way around.
After, restore the back in the reverse order... bottom first (near the charger port) - and make sure everything, on all sides, clips into place.
Rgrds,
Ged.
One set of precision screwdrivers, and an impressive amount of cursing..... Problem solved! Thanks for help everyone.

Any hope in repairing pin on battery clip?

I'm not sure if my title makes any sense, so I will further explain here. I had to repair my charging port, while doing so I must have damaged the clip that the battery plugs into. It looks like a pin or two (that is soldered to the mobo) is a bit loose. My phone does not charge but will function when plugged in. I bought a replacement battery thinking I damaged that, when going to install I noticed the loose pins. Went through with the install anyway, and phone acts the same.
Is there any hope for my to resolder the pins back to the mobo? I want to get some input before I buy a soldering gun etc.

Resoldering battery connectors is normally a very difficult job, best to take it to someone experienced. If the solder pad is gone too you'll definitely need a professional.
