Hi all
my USB doesn't seem to work anymore. However I don't believe it is a HW failure.
In Linux, when I connect my I9000 to usb, I see the following in the syslog:
Oct 14 17:17:29 xsdnied kernel: [ 1222.601065] usb 3-1: new low speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 3
Oct 14 17:17:29 xsdnied kernel: [ 1222.670996] hub 3-0:1.0: unable to enumerate USB device on port 1
This happens both in "Download mode" and if I boot in OS and choose "Mass storage for USB", also in Debug Dev Mode ON.
Also in Windows Odin can't see the device via USB. Windows at least told me under certain condition that a new USB device detected but it failed to recognize it (albeit all needed drivers have been already installed)
The phone is working, but I can't even install CM7.1 on it because of signature verification error that seems to be unavoidable under <3e>.
Any idea how to fix this situation?
have u tried a different pc?

I've tried another cable. I connect/disconnect several times and once of 20 attempts Windows makes its usual USB-discovery sound, but then says something like: USB-device is either broken or device is not recognized.
Well, just took another SGS1 that we have in our family and tested -- both cables are 100% OK.
Hm, maybe USB is indeed broken and that's it :-/
But how? why? Charging after all works.
Got the same problem bro...
One contact broke on the USB port, bricked my Phone too. I wasnt able to use odin to flash my Phone. The crazy thing is that my phone was able to charge but no connection to the PC.
I sent the bricked phone to an thrid partner from samsung, they flashed my phone and repaired the USB port. No is everything okay.
I tried several things to get the USB to work, nothing helped.
So I'm sending my phone back to Google, and I need to restore it to stock and lock the bootloader. The problem is when I connect my phone to my computer via usb, my computer doesn't recognize my Nexus. Although it charges it. I've tested out the usb cord on my s4 and that works perfect. I tried uninstalling and installing the drivers again. But all what I get on my computer is device not recognized. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

USB Debugging enabled?
On certain ROMS mine isn't recognized if IT is enabled.
I think mine has something to do with my USB Ports/Chipset, but when I shut of USB Debugging it appears.
I'm assuming its a driver issue. Try reinstalling them using this guide

Hi there ,
My phone keeps rebooting every time I connect it to the pc
Build Nr JSS15J.I9505XXUEMK9
BaseBand I9505XXUEMK9
Android 4.3
Anyone had this And how to fix it
cheers for any help
Try reinstalling your phones USB drivers. Does your phone only crash with Android debugging turned on? Try connecting to a rear USB port (rear USB port on computer output more mAh than front USB ports). Try another cable. If it still crashes check the phones micro USB port as it could be faulty.

Also try a different cable.

I'm having trouble connecting my N9005 to my pc using Windows8. The problem is it does not recognize the phone's storage and is not able to mount it.
I've tried installing Samsung Universal USB Drivers to no avail.
My laptop only has USB2 ports and if I'm correct N9005 utilizes USB v3. Could it be the cause?
I also have the same problem in Ubuntu.
I also tried Samsung Kies and it doesn't work either.
Upon connecting, my PC recognizes that the phone's been connected but it's not able to mount the storage.

The Note 3 mounts as an MTP drive. Make sure you have it selected under the drive connection settings on your phone.
In some cases enabling USB Debugging in Developer Settings would allow for the USB to mount.

By any chance do you have any unknown devices listed in the Computer Management of your computer?
My Note 3 mounts normally

I don't know what really happened but this last time I connected the device, it mounted normally!
But there's still an unknown Mass Storage Controller in my Device Manager.
unable to connect
Hi,
Perhaps W8 assigned the wrong driver...or a bad / damaged usb cable(?)
Try a system restore to an earlier date
I allways connect my mobile device thru wifi and it's fine
Cheers,
USB3 is backwards compatible with USB2, don't worry about that.
Did you try another cable? You can use any microUSB 2.0 cable, it fits into the right side of the USB port. (the small left bit is the USB3 part.)
Did you unlock the screen when you connect the phone? It can't mount the storage, if you use a lockscreen setting other than none or swipe, until you unlock the screen.

Hello ShadowLea,
I'm having the same problem on my Samsung Note 3 SM-N9005: "USB device not recognized One of the usb devices connected to this computer has malfunctioned...." when I connect it to my USB3 on my laptop.
I tried the toothpick solution (lifting the tongue of the USB connector on my phone), I tried powering down the Laptop and waiting for 30 seconds to fullly discharge the capacitors, I tried changing 3 different USB cables. I tried different USB ports on Laptop (on USB3 I reiceve the error on the remaining 2 USB2 ports the error does not appear but the phone is not seen by Kies nor Odin.
BTW, FYI, the phone is also having battery charging issues: it only charges if pluggged into the laptop and won't charge if connected to the mains via wall charger (tried 3 different chargers, cables, mains sockets: all work with other devices).
I'm trying to flash a new ROM to try to fix the battery chargin problem but if Odin can't recognize the device...
Also, the dial pad code *#7284# which should give access to the Phone Utility (USB settings) is not working - all other dial pad codes work.

Nope, X-Note is fine and I'm using v16 right now without problems.
What I think fixed my problem was using a screwdriver on the usb port on the phone.
I tightened the screws a little bit and it was fine after that.

which screws are you talking about btw?
ive found countless times its a duff or cheap micro USB cable.
if you have been using the genuine Samsung one then it may be faulty. But try another cable.
does any other phone connect ok with the same cable?:good:
I had a similar issue with my note 2 a while back

The ones on the USB port when you remove the back cover.

No it doesn't connect with any other cable, it charges fine though :/
This problem has already been addressed and solved. Its a problem in the kernel. Download a custom kernel if your using X-note 18.

... and is no longer recognized when connected to a computer via USB, meaning I can't return to stock to get ready for the Lollipop OTA.
Got a rooted Nexus 4 running the latest PA beta.
What happens when connecting to PC:
- On two different Windows machines: systray popup saying "USB device not recognized. The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned etc.". In device manager it says "Unknown USB device (device descriptor request failed)"
- On elementary OS, based on Ubuntu 12.04: nothing, besides charging.
No USB debugging connection notification on the Nexus 4 either when plugging in.
What I've tried (USB debugging enabled, all relevant drivers installed):
- Settings > Storage > USB computer connection > check Camera PTP (used to be required in order to get an RSA key prompt when connecting to a computer, now it does nothing)
- Flashing latest stable CM to see if PA was to blame. Made no difference.
- Uninstalling device through device manager in Windows and reconnecting. No effect. Driver update doesn't work either, finds nothing.
- Using Wugfresh's Nexus toolkit to see if that worked, but that obviously doesn't work either when the device isn't recognized, same with the Universal Nexus Linux Toolkit on Linux.
- Scouring the net for solutions and coming up with nothing
I have flashed factory images before on this phone without problems. Should I consider it a hardware failure by now, or is this a known issue with a fix?
Try a new wire, different usb port on computer, finally look into cleaning your charging port on the phone/replacing it.

Tried three different cables, every port on two laptops, no joy - my girlfriend's phone connects normally.
Wouldn't replace the charging port, then I'd just get a new phone since it's a 2 years old Nexus 4. If only there was a way to flash the factory image using only TWRP.

Thanks jd1639, that seemed to be exactly what I was looking for -
- but then I had an extremely blonde moment and formatted everything in TWRP, wiping the ROM I was gonna flash in the process, on a device where USB file transfer doesn't work anymore
My phone is now a paper weight.
Have you tried the file manager in twrp yet? I've found it connects when nothing else will...
